______________雨乾堂

The Rain Dried Hall, named for the Ugendō Quarters, the section of the Seireitei that houses the entirety of the Thirteenth Division, is the squad's residence hall. Like many of the squad's buildings, it is surrounded by an enormous pond and is supported above the water by sturdy stilts. Raised walkways connect the hall with the squad's outbuildings and dojo.

All rooms in the hall are of a modest size and, at their most spartan, include a sleeping area of some sort as well as a bathroom. All other additions and furnishings are up to the squad member in residence.

Yanagi looked at his quarters. He'd just arrived with all his equipment and friends and he couldn't complain. This looked better than the room he had shared during the Academy simply because he wouldn't have to share it and no-one could touch his things and better than the room he had only briefly occupied while being transferred to the court guard. Looking around for good places to put his things he looked for the best sources of light. He would probably have to smash out some of the walls and replace them with glass if he wanted suitable light or if not that he might put in some artificial lights though it was less desirable than the actual sun.

For now however he would have to make do with what he had. He and his little ones had survived in the past. He was sure with good care he could take care of them. He moved around the room placing each one in a different spot where he thought it'd get adequate light and he could see it from his bed. Plants of all shapes and sizes were dotted around the room each in differently sized pots. He had not yet recovered his collection of seeds and such from those responsible for looking after his possessions. It irritated him as he thought they may not know how to care for them properly but for now this would do. All that was left was to water them.

With a large bottle in hand he stepped outside. The bottle was probably about large enough to carry a few gallons of water so it'd last him a while. Yanagi knelt down to fill up the bottle from the pond below.

[I didn't want to leave you hanging here, since there are only three of us total here. I hope you don't mind if my character makes an appearance. I can just as easily leave you to your own devices, if you'd prefer :3]

"Need help?" Danny wanted to know as she approached the sandy blonde haired man who knelt by the pond. Yanagi Jinta, she recalled, remembering the small picture clipped to his file. She'd made it a point to memorize all the names and faces of her new squad.

Yanagi wasn't particularly sociable, his file said, he had an affinity for plants and a low tolerance for anything that didn't photosynthesize. It wasn't the most encouraging of reports, but he had skill where it counted, and so she'd accepted him into Thirteenth.

Of course, she still felt immeasurably awkward, approaching him out of the blue like this. He looked to be filling a large water bottle in the koi pond, and Danny wondered if perhaps he'd brought a potted plant with him to decorate his quarters. Maybe she could talk to him about that. It was a start, at any rate. After all, if she was going to lead this squad, she knew she ought to get to know the members' temperaments and personal quirks.

[Well I don't mind. Else I wouldn't leave the post with an open ending would I? I'm going to make an assumption you're in the Captain Getup now.]

Yanagi didn't bother to look to see who had asked the question immediately. They could wait for a little bit. Maybe he could even played the 'I was surprised by your sudden appearance' card or something to that nature. As long as whomsoever asked him the question wasn't irritable. It was unlikely too given that they had asked if he needed any help. Probably just one of those people who didn't know when to stay out of other's trouble and couldn't tell when they weren't wanted. He'd met a lot of them.

As he stood up he managed to catch a glimpse at the white material that Captains were commonly in. A bad first move to give a Captain a cold shoulder but he'd already planned for that. As he came to his feet he made a shocked movement as he caught sight of the Captain fully beside him. It wasn't particularly well acted out as his movements were a little off time to be genuine. His noticing her and spilling a little water with a jump were not quite as instantaneous as they should be had he truly just caught sight.

"My apologies, madam." He said with a voice that had a tiny hint of irritation in it that suggested he would just rather not be stopped to talk, full stop, rather than that he found the person in question irritating. "I did not see you there." It wasn't exactly a lie. He hadn't seen her so much as he had heard her. More of a bluff if anything. He knew that it would be better not to simply shoot her down or shoo her away. Not his superior at least. Otherwise.

"I'm just getting some water for my plants. Terribly boring. Probably not your thing?" While Yanagi was not a master of conversation he was more or less a master of shutting down a conversation by being ever so slightly condescending.

((OOC: I love your character already Pad.))

Yanagi's twitch of surprised was such that Danny half expected him to lose his footing and take a dip in the koi pond. As it was, he splashed water out of the bottle he'd been filling. It sloshed over the walkway and one of Danny's boots, but she didn't much mind. They were waterproof, anyway.

"I didn't mean to startle you," She said carefully, wondering why he'd been so jumpy. What's more, he seemed almost annoyed to be disturbed. His whole manner caught Danny a little off balance. If she didn't know better, she'd think he was actually talking down to her. Actually, she wasn't sure if she did know better.

Perhaps luckily for them both, Danny wasn't one to be offended easily. Unless Yanagi had blatantly given her grounds to think he was being rude or insubordinate, she chose to brush it off, chalking it up to his surprise and maybe her own prejudice based on what she'd read in his file.

"I had a vegetable garden once," She blurted without thinking. She found herself nearly as startled as Yanagi had seemed earlier, realizing that what she'd said was actually true. Somehow, she knew it, but she couldn't say why. Just like she knew she loved cooking and baking, but she had no tangible memories of cooking or baking when she had been alive. She had no real memories from her mortal life, just feelings, flashes. She was inordinately pleased that Yanagi had brought some little piece of that life back to her.

"What types of plants are you growing?"

So it was one of these types. A person who thought they know a god damn thing about gardening. One of those types who had at one point owned a slightly rubbish garden or collection of plants and wanted to tell the whole world. Well what did they know with their slightly rubbish garden which they probably didn't even take proper care of filled most likely with most likely a collection of pretty flowers and vegetables they found attractive. How could a person like that possibly know the true joy of gardening? Why it made Yanagi almost fuming with rage. However he'd met many such people and so was at least, at some level, able to contain his anger.

"Oh. A vegetable garden. Good for beginners I suppose." Although he was trying to remain composed Yanagi was incapable of not sliding in sly comments on the skill or attractiveness or any flaw he could find in a person whether or not it actually existed. It just came naturally to him. It could even be called a skill though it was mostly detrimental to his performance in conversation. It was probably half the reason he'd became such a recluse. Even from a very young age he never got on with the other children. The other reason being because he'd really became a bit too wound up in his studies.

Yanagi contemplated telling his Captain. She'd probably rather not be refused and good behaviour was certain to bring a better position which brought more money in. There was no mistaking that this was an opportunity that could not be missed. However no doubt this woman was an amateur. If Yanagi were to name his plethora of plants to her then she would no doubt be perplexed by him. Therefore a visual display was in order. He couldn't be bothered to spend all day talking about this. Especially with someone who didn't nearly have his dedication.

"Would you like to see? I'm in Room Four A." It was probably the most polite thing he could say though it still carried a hint of irritation with it. "You can get in can't you? I've got water to gather and then I can show you." It was only an assumption but it seemed sensible. "Please. Do not touch anything." Of all of Yanagi's speech this was the only that didn't carry the underlying irritation. This was an instruction. Straightforward and simple.

Yanagi dipped his bottle back into the water. Not checking to see if Danny had gone to have a look. It wouldn't take long to get the water but it'd give him time to have a break from people and even if only briefly admire the aquatic plantlife they had here in the thirteenth squad.

"It was a victory garden," Danny said, again pleased when the statement felt as true as her conviction that she'd once had a garden to begin with. As such, it was easy to forgive Yanagi's curt speech. She didn't even notice the implied insult. "It wasn't anything big or fancy, but it did the job. We needed the food,"

She waited patiently while Yanagi went back to filling his water. He seemed very serious about his gardening, which she had expected. His poor conversational skills she had also been prepared for, but he still made her feel foolish, much like a child being addressed by an adult. His tone said, you don't know the first thing about gardening, and because she couldn't help but agree, she couldn't-- and wouldn't-- actually complain. His love for plants was obviously more than a hobby. Danny hated to label it an obsession, but it had certainly made him an odd sort of fellow, but she easily forgave him for it.

"I would love to see your plants," She answered, which was true enough. Just because she didn't know the first thing about cultivating exotic plants -- she assumed Yanagi's plants were the exotic, temperamental variety, anyway -- didn't mean she was uninterested. She figured it was the same way you didn't have to be an artist to enjoy a painting. "But I'll let you lead the way. I don't want to disturb anything,"

"Lovely." Yanagi stood up and screwed a cap onto his now filled bottle of water to make sure he wouldn't have to go back again and again. How long could his friends exist without his precious, precious water. It worried him every hour of the day that they may wilt because of his negligence. He could not allow that. He could never allow that. There would be nothing to stop him in his path to come to their aid. Yanagi lifted himself up and took the bottle under arm. Although he was a scrawny man he was still a Shinigami and was still well trained. He had not passed the academy with exactly flying colours but he had passed.

The young man opened the door to his room to be greeted by just about every plant that one could reasonably be grown in this sort of heat. The climate was not perfect for growing winter flowers or . It really never was and although Yanagi desired to grow such plants he knew it to be impossible. The plants were scattered across the room in varying degrees of light and heights all specifically to their individual needs. "Ask away." Yanagi said presuming she intended to ask a question about it.

He moved over to his bathroom area and produced a watering can and then got to work. Yanagi had never considered the implications of bring a woman into a man's bedroom. In fact he hardly considered Danny a woman at all. It was unlikely unless Danny herself said to Yanagi that it was not particularly courteous of him to invite a woman into his sleeping quarters (which he had left unmade which wasn't particularly becoming of a military organisation either) especially one he had only met once. Perhaps met wasn't really the right word.

[Since you've left off a description of the plants, I'll just go ahead and make some up.]

"This is quite a collection," Danny said as she bent to examine a speckled, orange flower growing on a long, sturdy stalk. She couldn't even pretend to recognize even a fraction of the various plants that crowded the small apartment, and given Yanagi's tone, he didn't expect it of her. As per orders, she didn't touch any of the plants. Instead, she clasped her hands loosely behind her back as she moved on to another flower. White petals cupped a spray of white and purple tendrils. Somehow, the shape made her think of an octopus. It was easily the strangest flower she'd every seen, but all the more fascinating because of it.

"There are so many I'm surprised you're able to care for them all as well as attend to your duties as a Soul Reaper," She said delicately. It wasn't an accusation so much as an observation. "How do you make sure they stay healthy when you're out on assignment?" She glanced about the cluttered, unkempt apartment, easily forgiving the mess-- she herself was no neat freak. "Will they get enough sun in here?"

[Sorry bout that. Didn't want to end up writing a short novel on flowers.]

Although Yanagi was silently pleased, even if it were just a tiny little bit, that someone was looking at the flowers with such fascination that he had worked all his life (or that which was important at least) towards the continued life of he still remained focused on the task at hand. Watering each flower precisely and passing by his Captain briefly and leaning over her without any regard for her own personal space. Yanagi was not one to consider people as people but rather things and he felt it unusual that he should be forced to stay out of the way of an object. Whoever they were. However he did reply to her. This object had not yet done anything to upset him terribly.

"I've just moved in today." Yanagi stated bluntly returning to his bathroom to put away his watering can. He returned and then sat down on his bed. He had decided not to place any plants on the bed as it was uneven and that may not be good for their health. He also needed to sleep so he could keep them in the best condition. Although Yanagi may have been slightly obsessed he was not impractical with his somewhat unusual habits. He was granted some small amount of common sense if nothing else. He brought his legs up onto his bed too and sat cross legged. His eyes like a hawk's looking for even the slightest move wrong on the part of his Captain. She would not touch those plants even if he had to wrestle her to the ground or die trying.

"Unless you've got an assignment for me this second I've yet to receive any formal work. Though I would be happy to do so." Yanagi's tone however implied that he was not interested in the work but rather the results of it. He was trying his best to be co-operative however much the very idea pained him. He was also ever so slightly pleased to notice that his Captain had taken a small interest in the health of his plants. "No. They won't get enough sun. With your permission I'm going to knock out the wall. I will get changed and sleep in the bathroom so no-one is inconvenienced by my nakedness if there is no issue from you." Yanagi was also not particularly used to living in barracks. He had lived in the Academy for a long time (and gotten in a lot of trouble for knocking out walls there or keeping lights on all night) but he still hadn't quite gotten used to the style of living with others. For a great number of years in his life he had in fact made his residence in an old abandoned house where he could knock out walls as he pleased.

Yanagi's common sense did clearly only go so far.

[No problem! I figured it was just safe to assume that most things were exotic and difficult to grow. Also, I'm really sorry it took me so long to get myself together and post.]

Danny leaned away from Yanagi as he watered the flower she was examining. He didn't seem to have any particular sense of boundaries, but then she got the sense that he cared for his plants with a fanatical devotion. She doubted it even occurred to him that his proximity was inappropriate from her rank, and so it was easy to grant him leeway here.

"No, I've no assignment for you as of yet," She said, straightening once he'd moved away. "The room's yours to do with as you wish. Just file a maintenance request, and I'm sure we'll you some windows installed in no time,"

Below, she could hear the pond lapping at the walkways. Perhaps Yanagi had chosen the squad primarily for the ready source of water. "Would there be a way to pipe water into your room from the pond? That way, even if you're out on assignment, your plants will still have water."

[It's a bit of both sides really. Some are easy to grow. He'd own every plant he could get his hands on though.]

"Good." The newly recruited Shinigami mouthed to himself under his breath only just about clear enough that if one could lip read they would know what he was saying. Or if they simply knew him on even the most basic emotional level. Either would suffice. He lifted himself off his bed though in a mildly defensive manner with a creak though as he heard he could file a maintenance request. Yes, he did need to change this room around to make it adequate for his little darlings but he also couldn't have some grizzly old man coming up to one of them and touching them inappropriately. The thought of it may him nearly sick. What if one of these brutes took one of his flowers. Realising though the position he had just brought himself in to he quickly sat back down and the bed creaked under his rather modest weight again. Just after hearing his Captain's second suggestion.

"I'd rather take these matters into my own hands. I don't think callous treatment such as automated water or construction experts should be brought near my..." Yanagi briefly considered saying lovelies after just short of shouting out these words in a rushed garble but decided it would sound too strange. He had not realised that everything he had said already and the tone he had said it in already condemned him too looking somewhat abnormal. "Plants." He opted for a neutral word instead. He had found himself standing again. His blood pressure raised and sweat creeping down his brow. It pained him to admit it but he'd need someone experienced in looking after plants to take over for him occasionally. They would have to accept second best every now and again however much it pained him.

"I'd need to find another with my passion before I go on an assignment. Would you know another madam?" Yanagi's body had finally started calming itself and his eyes which had been wild and filled with what was just short of murderous intent shortly were back to normal. This was why he hadn't really wanted to bring anyone in here with him. This was nothing short of his sanctuary away from prying eyes where he could do what he wanted and although it would only benefit him to be polite to the Captain he still couldn't stand the thought that she might or at least was capable of (regardless of the fact it was never going to happen) suddenly setting the entire room on fire.
