Jing Liu sniffed at the air around him experimentally, smiling goofily at the smell and continuing his trip down the street in a typically clumsy fashion. He teetered a bit from side to side, holding the large plate of sweet ricecakes in his hands and, as he was barely able to see his feet, stumbled over a rock or two but – luckily enough – managed to walk in a somewhat jaggedly straight line. The aroma was delicate, and very fresh; it made sense, seeing as he'd just taken them out of the oven. This sort of ricecake was wonderful, because it didn't need to be stir-fried with other vegetables or put into a soup – it was the sort that one only needed to sprinkle sugar or spread peanut butter on and it would taste fantastic. A wonderful breakfast or lunch snack, to be sure, and that was precisely why he was skipping the rest of his classes for the day and bringing it home from his cooking class for his mother. Knowing her, she probably hadn't even eaten lunch.
Another step or two in front of him – it was suspiciously empty today, especially because it was one of the more busier streets and normally he wouldn't have taken it (too many risks and too many people), but it was the fastest way back home, to the Quiet Roads. But today. There were a fair number of Lunarians bustling about, but not enough to pose a threat to his giant plate of ricecakes and his terrible style of walking.
Oh my god, the boy thought to himself, already tired and breathing in and out in what could only be described as a huff and puff. Goddamnit, if he were stronger and not so weak...

He'd been wandering for hours. From the early morning hours in complete darkness to the now bright scene of the city the young fighter had been out and about, testing patrols in places and observing some of the early morning activity. The entire affair had left him further from home than he'd anticipated, which left him moneyless and starving. Clenching a fist over his stomach he wandered down towards Main Street after following some of the Quiet Roads back into town.
Gurgling in protest was his stomach and with every move forward he could feel it writhing in pain. "Damn." he muttered under his breath, hitting himself with a small punch to the stomach in an attempt to quell it's anger. With a loud growl he could feel the pain of hunger drilling at his sides. Groaning, he looked around at various shops with an underlying sense of mischief.
Shaking his head the thought left his mind completely. There'd be no way to outrun the consequences if he was found robbing a store. Biting his lip he kept moving until an aroma wafted down over him. Instantly the young Fighter felt himself salivate and he looked around frantically for the source until his eyes rested solely on a light-haired Lunarian moving past him with an open plate of food resting in his hands.
He seemed unsteady, nearly tripping a few times. A hungry stare following him at every near-fall. Impulsively Cais began to follow him. Food off of a plate was a lot easier to get at than food behind a counter. For a short while he followed his prey, watching for any opening but keeping a distance. Surely this Lunarian would forgive him if he were to catch him, feeling half-starved and all.
Warily he moved closer to him, eyes never leaving the plate. Give me an opening.

He blew out his cheeks in frustration, balancing the plate even more unsteadily on his pale hands – Liu looked as if he hadn't ever spent a day outside, his skin was a creamy white and the envy of many a girl he'd met. Which was sort of cool. Not that he cared about how soft or how pretty his skin was.
If the boy had decided to pay attention, he might have noticed the footsteps behind him, the stare boring into his back. But Liu generally never noticed these things; despite how his grandfather had tried time and time to drill these lessons into the Lunarian's head, he had quite a bit of trouble actually remembering to open his ears, his eyes, his brain. As if he had the time or coordination to, he could hardly keep his attention focused on the ricecakes at hand.
The boy let loose a very unmanly squeak as he almost dropped the plate of ricecakes – almost being the main word. "Ahh!" Thankfully Liu caught it only a meter above the ground, grabbing onto the plate desperately and breathing out in relief as he noticed only two or three had slipped off. He placed the plate on the ground, finding this a perfect time to, uh, rest, and kneeling next to his plate, he panted for a bit rather pathetically.

Cais followed the pale boy for a long while, watching his every step with enthusiasm. There was an odd sense of familiarity with the boy, though his hunger took away from his ability to properly remember anything aside from his appetite. A few times he'd nearly fallen Cais could feel the adrenaline build up, wanting nothing more but to snatch any bit of food he could carry.
Finally he got his chance.
With a squeak he heard the boy falter and the plate slide from his hands. In a quick sprint he was already at the scene, near him as he crouched next to the plate. Cais stood beside him with one of the slipped ricecakes in his mouth as he savored it before swallowing it down. "Mmm." He let out happily before turning back to Liu, his appetite suddenly peaking.
Hungrily he stared back at the unattended plate but came to his senses after a few minutes, staring back at the boy. "You alright?" He said casually, taking another sniff of the delectable snacks. "That could have ended really badly." He added, eyes drifting again to the plate and back.
"Maybe need some help?" Cais said with a large grin.
