She really shouldn't be walking home alone this late at night. Keren Della-Blue had been warned. She'd been warned half a dozen by half a dozen people and some of those people had worn pretty senshi frills. But she also knew that on any given night, Acubens might be shadowing her to make sure she arrived home safely. Keren couldn't sleep in the forensics lab (believe her, she'd tried) - but she was currently elbow-deep in what she personally believed to be groundbreaking research. (It probably wasn't, but it seemed cool to her.)

Feeling emboldened by the knowledge of her pretty-skirted protector, Keren strode confidently through the school gates. It was nearing eleven o'clock at night, and so she dashed off a text to her mother to let her know she was on her way home.

Turning down the street, she cast her eyes thoughtfully upwards towards the trees. She did not see Acubens, but that did not convince her that the senshi was not lurking. Keren was content to not delve into the superhero's mysterious ways, as she didn't want to become any more involved in the conflict than she already was. Holding Acubens at an arm's length while she tried to pursue the senshi's employer was safer. Micah hadn't stood with her on the surrounding. Micah had reacted incredulously to her tales of alien abduction. Micah, Keren felt confident in evaluating, was as human as human came.

She looked away from the trees, content to not catch sight of the senshi tonight. It was chilly, and Keren pulled her coat tighter and quickened her pace. The clouds looked threatening, and no matter what kind of precipitation fell, Keren wanted to beat it home. She was under-dressed for this weather.

This whole being a creepy stalker chick was starting to get on Lesath’s nerves…but it seemed like every time she was slighted by somebody now…that’s what kind of a mode she went into. She hadn’t meant for this to happen, not at all. In fact…it was completely a fluke! She had been walking home one night and heard voices, and went to investigate…and saw Acubens with some purple haired girl, talking and…and flirting.

For the next few days she had continued to be around the same place at the same time, and had continued seeing Acubens with the girl. This must be the one that was stopping Acubens from joining with Lesath. With their family.

This was the cause of all the problems.

Raven wasn’t here this time, Lesath was and she sat, perched in a tree, just watching the purple haired girl walking. She wanted so badly just to drain her completely and leave her body for Acubens to find the next morning…but…all that would do would be to get the senshi angry at her. No, she needed to play it cool…to do something…easier.

Besides. She wasn’t…keen on the idea of actually killing someone. With a sigh, she jumped from the tree, her transparent wings fluttering behind her, giving the illusion that she was flying down. She landed in front of Keren and gave a smile.

“Well. Hello there.”

Initially, when she couldn't make out the details of the figure rushing towards her, Keren thought it might be another white moon senshi. That lasted for mere seconds before true comprehension set in. The girl recoiled in fright, freezing in her tracks, foot inching backwards, ready to turn and run. Memories of the Surrounding came rushing back. This was one of those dark warriors, the ones who sprung up in death's wake...

Bile rose in Keren's throat. She felt sick just remembering that horrible battlefield at the edge of the world. Running seemed like a really keen idea right now, but she couldn't bring herself to do it.

She was Keren Della-Blue. Death had looked at her and passed her over. She clung to this knowledge every day of her life, trying to convince herself that she was somehow special for having held on until the moment of breach. That death could not touch her.

But this warrior before her was some valkyrie, some emissary of Death, and Keren swallowed down acid.

"What do you want?" she demanded, voice trembling.

Lesath pursed her lips for a moment, seeming just slightly confused. Well. Fear. Now that was something she wasn’t used to being met with. It was a nice change from the norm…and even…

A slow grin began to spread across her face again and she let out a very delighted laugh. Yes. This was what she had longed for when chasing that other girl down. That mint haired…whatever her name was. She didn’t give her the satisfaction of being afraid…but this…This was beyond her expectations.

“Now now, dear. Calm down. You look as though you’ve seen a ghost. I’m not that scary, am I?” Her voice was sugary sweet, the adrenaline pumping through her veins at Keren’s fear, driving away every ounce of guilt that she would be feeling at this. “I was just wondering, why a pretty thing like you is all alone tonight. Where’s your little Senshi protector?”

That was it, let slip some information, make it seem like she wasn’t there for any bad reason…maybe her first plan wouldn’t be needed…maybe she could just…get the two to break up. Maybe. That would be better in her mind..

Not that scary? Keren swallowed. Her throat had gone uncomfortably dry in the face of danger, and she forced her eyes to remain trained on the dark woman standing before her. "Just because I can't see her doesn't mean she's not around here somewhere," the purple-haired girl forced out. She resisted the urge to gaze skyward, to indicate where her rescue might come from. If Acubens was lurking in the tree line, now would be a really good time for her to turn up!

Rescue was slow in coming. Keren's mind raced and came up empty. She'd come out of the Surrounding ordeal boasting about immortality, but that was haunted by what she'd seen out on the rainbow road. The valkyrie standing before her only served to send images of hand-crabs skittering through her mind.

No, Keren. Pull yourself together.

"Your leader looked at me and passed me over," boasted Keren, pulling herself up to her full - and admittedly impressive - height. There was a shake in her voice, a tremor that betrayed the fear she was trying to cover. Once shown, however, it was refusing to be hidden. Like a stain.

"I have looked death in the face, and death did not want me."

Or death was just saving her for later. You know, same difference, more or less.

Lesath chuckled. “Well, even if she did show up, She wouldn’t attack me. You see, Acubens is my friend. A very close friend.” Well, was…at least in Lesath’s mind. There was no sense letting this information slip though. “She’s going to be joining our court very soon, she’s told me.”

Maybe…Keren wouldn’t want Acubens anymore.

As the girl mentioned Ares passing her over, the senshi of moths laughed outright, almost doubling over with laughter. “She passed you over? Well. I’ll keep that in mind. I suppose that means you’ll never be worthy of anything then.” She gave another chuckle, wiping at her eyes. “Passed you over…My queen resurrected me from the dead, for she knew I was worthy. And Acubens is worthy and she will join with us. Then who will protect you, dearie? Hm? You’ll be all alone.”

Keren's resolve (what was left of it, anyways), was rapidly crumbling. She was honestly torn over the whole Acubens thing - on one hand, the senshi had declared herself Keren's protector, on the other hand, she'd called Micah a slut. Tricky choice. However, she was reluctant to take whatever this dark woman said at face value.

Using the very last of her nerve, she spat, "You're lying."

But she felt betrayed, because Keren had let Acubens into her circle of trust and let the senshi know where she lived, and there was that niggling fear - what if it was true? Or worse - what if she'd been sold out, used as a bargaining chip? Maybe death was swooping back around for the girl that it forgot. A dozen scenarios flashed through her mind, all of them ending with some hapless workman fishing her body out of a landfill.

"You're lying," repeated Keren shakily, but her nerve had failed her. All that talk of immortality - it was just talk. That was all it was. Everything was going to end here and now.

Desperate, she looked up towards the trees where she hoped her savior lurked. "Acubens!" shouted the girl, backing away from the dark senshi in front of her. "Acubens, if you're there- Please-"

Ugh. If the girl was going to start shouting, then Lesath was going to move this little game along. She summoned both of her mirror wraiths and directed them at Keren, the transparent ghost like things darting in and out of her, growing more and more corporal with each pass.

She stopped them when she had taken quite a bit of the purple haired girl’s energy, nearly enough to cause her to pass out. Nearly. Lesath walked over and smiled. “You can call to her all you like, sweetie. She’s not coming.”

She sent one of the wraiths passing through Keren once more then gave another little chuckle. “She’ll never be coming to rescue you. In fact, when you see her again, she’ll be one of us…so…Night night now.” She had the wraith pass through the girl once more, hoping that would be enough to knock her out.

It was like ice. Keren stumbled a little more with each pass, crumbling to her knees. She tried to object again to the dark senshi's boast, but couldn't. There was no point in struggling with the encroaching darkness now. She was so tired, and if Acubens had sold her out...

Maybe it was just better to skip the next part.
