The Academy stood beside what had once been Cherry Tree Hill, looking as it ever had, with its white washed walls glinting in the sunlight, the gold fixtures and gate that prevented trespassers catching the reflections of those that passed by. The imposing building loomed over Lunaria; a constant reminder of where one started in their life, and one of the only truly neutral places left in the city.
Jianyu stood just inside the gates, one hand idly twisting the glinting designs that decorated the gauntlets he wore, covering the multitude of sales that spread up to his elbows on both arms. He hadn't set foot inside of the Academy since that day several years back, upon the invasion - he had had no need to, after all, seeing as how his younger brothers and sisters had all graduated.
Except for the two youngest, however. Mingzhu and Liqui, identical in looks alone and almost nothing else, were of age to step outside of the hallowed halls of the school and make their own paths. Ehuang had been beside herself with pride (especially considering that Mingzhu, with her lack of ambition, desire, and...well, general intelligence...had neither wanted, nor been expected to graduate) to see the last of her children leave the Academy.
Which was why, early this weekday, that Jianyu was returning. Ehuang had insisted that all of her children be present for Mingzhu and Liqui's graduation, and so Jianyu had decided to come. Alone, since Yue was not feeling well, and he had left her with a kiss and a promise to give her love to her sisters-in law.
Inside, his footsteps were loud on the smooth tile floor, a soft slithering sound echoing behind him as his tail slid along the ground. Jianyu was still quite unused to this new addition - at the home he shared with Yue, he was often knocking things over - but lately he had been getting the hang of it more, as well as the large and obtrusive horns that were now protruding from the top of his head. It had been uncomfortable and painful at first, the magic still sizzling in his veins, but several weeks later and Jianyu finally felt as though he were starting to understand how to live with it now.
A gentle breeze tugged at his hair, and Jianyu paused momentarily at an open window, casting a glance outside. It overlooked the fields - the archery fields - and he felt a small smile on his lips as his gaze drifted towards the practice dummies on the edge of the field.
This was where it had all been started.
This is where my story began.

The Academy was a mad house, today they were celebrating the graduation of a few students so there was plenty of family members littering the halls, most boasting and mingling as they shared stories about their children and how much they had grown.
The soon-to-be-priestess was running around like a headless chicken. Even though she only taught the students sparingly, she was sad to see them go and her heart was filled with more pride than she could express. The dark haired woman made sure to hunt down every child that was leaving, even though they were adults now. she gave each a hug and fought back tears as she wished them luck in their futures. If she was not a conduit, she would have loved to be a teacher. Sara's love of children was far from a secret, though she had completely given up on the idea of having any herself - so instead she liked to adopt and play mother to the ones she taught and interacted with. It was one branch of her work that she enjoyed and would make sure she continued after her pilgrimage.
The teal haired woman walked down the hall, eyes scanning over the people who where hovering around waiting for the festivities to start. Though when turning a corner she came across a bunch of people that she could not help but recognize, it seemed like the while Qián household had gathered, which meant that Jianyu would be here at the very least. She tilted her head and smiled a soft smile, she had not seen the Captain since his wedding and it would be nice to catch up with him. The couple seemed to have locked themselves away from the world, which was to be expected, especially with someone as affectionate as Yue.
So she went on the hunt.
Sara wandered past a man who was staring out a large window at the archery field bellow, though as soon as she did she looked over her shoulder. It couldn't be... Her eyes fixed on the man, the rest of her body turning to face in the same way as her ghostly orbs which were focused on the horns that were sprouting from his head. Was she dreaming? She had never seen a Tenryujin before and she sure as hell did not expect to see Jianyu... like this. She remained silent for a good moment, her eyes fixed on him, she did not even realise she was staring, she was just speechless, like the air had been taken straihgt from her lungs. It was just so surreal.

The Academy, as it always had, smelled of cherry blossoms and spices, the latter being from many of the cooking classes offered within the glittering, white washed walls. It was a familiar scent, one that Jianyu had spent several years getting used to, and now it wafted around him pleasantly - a small, gentle reminder of everything he had once known. It felt so different, and yet...at the same time, it felt as though nothing had changed. The school was still the same as it had been - it was everything else around it that was shifting, whether subtly or blatantly obvious.
It felt odd, being back, but Jianyu let himself relax, for once. He was not within the barracks or training camps of his unit, and he was not trying to impress anyone here. It was his school, the one that he had loved, where he had learned everything.
And now his sisters would graduate. It was a time for celebration and joy, not for bittersweet reminders.
Quiet footsteps echoed somewhere behind him, gentle in the wide, tiled hallway, but Jianyu, lost within the confines of his own thoughts, almost did not hear them. As it was, he kept his gaze fixed at the archery field that he could see through the window and lifted a scaled hand, letting his fingertips brush against the glass.
He sighed, dropping his hand. The graduation ceremony will start soon, he thought, and turned to leave - but the figure that was standing in front of him when he shifted was all-too-familiar. A smile crossed his face, and Jianyu stepped forward, bowing deeply, his hair, loose about his neck, falling over his shoulders in dark waves.
"Sara!" he said brightly, and straightened, tucking one hand into the sleeve of his changshan - a simple black one with silver thread woven in at the sleeves and the hem. Behind him there was a soft shuffling sound as Jianyu's tail slid across the smooth, cool ground and rested against his feet and ankles.
"It has been a long time," he said. "What brings you to the Academy this day?"
