Kitchen duty was never the same since the sweet old lady with the most awesometastic of Cookies left. Sure, she saved the trainees' hides when the lost-ninja-thing came and basically wiped the floor with them (and that was putting it mildly) but Before missed her and her presence. Also those cookies.

He knew he didn't have the skills or the necessary ingredients to make them the way she did but... why couldn't he try to make himself something for comfort? No pies for now, though >.>a

Today, he figured he could try out some other recipe. He was actually decent when it came to baking. He wondered why he never figured this out pre-Islandification. Maybe it was because his parents believe culinary matters were best handled by the help >.< oh wellz~

Arriving in the kitchen, Before was surprised to find, "Oh. Hi Julie. Y-you gonna be in here for a while?"

After Christmas emergency mission mishap involving certain demoted trainees, Julie had once again taken residence in the kitchens. It was now her work place, her home and oh god, please, someone just give her something else to do. The food poisoning ratio had gone up by at least one-hundred percent post Julie's arrival, and most Hunters at the current moment were surviving off rations.

Things were grim, very grim.

So when Before walked in to find Julie in the kitchens stirring something bubbling and charcoal black, the Moon Hunter's default answer should have been no surprise as she beamed back at him. "Oh hi Alfred, yes I'll be here for quite a bit though, you're free to help me though, I could always use the extra help, I just get so lonely sometimes."

The look she gave Before was just a little on the desperate side.

The moment Julie fixed those wide eyes of hers on Before, a voice in the back of his mind promptly began to say something. It wasn't Vanna's voice, that much was certain but it was trying to tell him something. Something along the lines of OMFG RUN MAN, RUN! GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN! It sounded like his voice but Before wasn't sure of that.

He wasn't sure of a lot of things but he knew he was absolutely crap at saying "no" to a girl. No matter what the Moon Hunter may have done, no matter the chaos she's wrecked, no matter the food poisoning she'd inflicted, Before somehow tuned out the screaming, shrieking terror-filled voice in his head. Along with the alarm bells but who needs to know about that?

"I-it's "Before" not Alfred but, um, sure! You making epoxy to fix some cracks in walls?" he asked, cautiously approaching the concoction Julie was, at that moment, stirring.

"Shhhh Alfred." Julie stopped mid-stir, her expression turning from pleasant to slightly alarmed, if not a little on the unstable side. She nervously brushed away a few strands of hair from her eyes. "What happens in the kitchen club stays in the kitchen club, do you understand?"

Before, well, Before could say yes or no, the Moon Hunter had already passed him whatever she was stirring (it was currently also bubbling, with various questionable chunks in it) a whisk, and a spare rainbow-hued apron. "Just keep on stirring until it changes colour okay, we need to make the perfect cookies."

Before wanted to answer an honest "Not really" to Julie's question of kitchen club. But then he remembered Killzone's promise that his righteous trials have already begun and this steeled the Misty's nerves into sticking it out. After all, what could be more dangerous and hellish than Julie's cooking? Not to mention he really wasn't given much of a choice to say yes or no before stirring-duty was foisted onto him.

With one hand, he took the proffered materials while he continued to stir with the other. It was awkward and difficult to tie an apron on, but the colors didn't bother Before. "What color am I waiting fo-cookies?!" he gawked in complete shock. Thankfully he continued to stir the concoction, patting down the chunks when he could.

"Yes!" The look the Moon Hunter assistant gave Before was one of intense complete concentration as she pulled open her cookbook, labeled 'Quik Cooking For Dummies' and flipped a few pages to an illustrated diagram of what might have been either an oatmeal raisin or chocolate chip cookie, it was kind of hard to tell when the page was dog-eared and upside down. "We are making cookies for the project."

The Moon Hunter did an amazing job of not explaining what 'the project' was at all, instead, placing the book down to glance over Before's shoulder. "Hm-hmm, what is your favourite colour by the way, Alfred?"

Project? The Project? What the ******** was that? Whatever it was, it sounded like something that involved Killzone-related baked goods! And that alone was enough to have Before mirroring the Moonie's look of concentration. Okay so maybe his was more of a look of determination but they both ended in -ation so that totes count! He continued to stir and stir and stir, not even pausing when he answered, "My favorite color? It's green. Why?"

"Because," Julie replied almost immediately, leaning in close to Before, staring at his eyes soulfully, "We are going to make green cookies. Yes, green Joy cookies, hm-hmm," the Moon Hunter paused for a second, eyeing the trainee's stirring work. "I think you need to try harder than that, the dough is clearly not quite green yet, you should keep on mixing!"

While Before continued to stir, she immediately went back to the kitchen counter, picking up a few things from the surface: some sprinkles, chocolate chips, peppermint bark being some of the more reasonable ones, though paper clips, melting eyeballs from what looked like a minipet, and glow sticks not so much. Quickly, she brought her findings, plus a few other choice ones, to the trainee, setting them on the counter next to him.

"I do so love volunteers, so please, you can choose the decorations this time, Alfred."

Somewhere in the back of Before's mind, a song began to play. This was no ordinary Hunter he was talking to. This was Julie, a Division Assistant. And she was including him in something important! Even if she hadn't mentioned they were making joy cookies (green ones too emotion_kirakira ), Before's game face immediately came on as he began stirring with renewed vigor!

When the Moon Hunter produced the decorations, Before thought he was going to explode from sheer happiness. "R-REALLY!?" he squeaked, teal eyes sparkling like a spaklepyre for the briefest of moments. He studied the presented items seriously, as if his life depended on it! In the end, he managed to go through the excruciatingly difficult choice of narrowing it down to three, "Colorful Sprinkles, Wishing Wand, aaaaaaand Horn of a Unicorn!" Of course, these were just toppers and replicas, right? Julie wouldn't really use minipets in food, would she?

The Moon assistant clapped her hands together at the choices excitedly, nearly dropping her cookie cutters. She quickly took the bowl from Before, pouring the contents out into a tray.

It was extremely lumpy and uneven. She peered thoughtfully at the substance with large, soulful eyes, poked an end of it with one gloved hand (the substance wobbled a bit but otherwise remained stationary), and the shrugged, grabbing a handful of colourful sprinkles, what looked like an entire glitter wand bought from the dollar store, and a unicorn horn, placing them into a blender.

It was better not to ask where that came from.

After some very loud whirring, the oddly mushy contents were poured on top of the tray like some demented, sparkly icing. Julie beamed. "And now we put this in the oven for thirty minutes!"

It was still up in the air exactly why she had even brought those cookie cutters.

Before eagerly watched the Moon division assistant, assuming the poking of the batter was to check for viscosity and whether or not it would fall once baked. That would have been a very, very sad sight indeed. He was about to ask what temperature the oven had been preheated when Julie went about grabbing the three ingredients he spoke of.

Oh, were they preparing the icing already? It made sense, why waste the time while waiting for the batter to bake after all. But why was she bringing out a blender and... O________________O?!?!?! "U-uh, J-Julie? Why're you, like, iunno, putting them in a blender?" he asked, "Does the recipe really call for-"

The rest of his words were drowned out by the loud whirring and ear-piercing screeches of the ingredients being blended. His hands flew to cover his ears, removing them once blessed silence returned. Teal eyes stared in confusion and disbelief, "B-but won't the icing melt in the oven?" again he asked, though by now he should have learned not to question the methods behind Julie's madness but simply let himself go along the ride. "Shouldn't we, iunno, save some for after the whole thing is finished baking? To cover up some bits? Just in case?"

"Silly Alfred, we don't follow recipes," Julie waved it all away with an absent-minded smile, "You bake with your soul... and the assistance of some harmless ingredients!" She turned around, humming as she picked out all the green M and M's on the counter, for some reason, even as the oven began to smoke and fizzle horribly.

She continued to hum abstractly as the oven flashed in very clear red: WARNING: CONTENTS HIGHLY VOLATILE.

There was a moment where Before was about to heartily disagree with Julie's philosophy in not using recipes when the fizzling from the oven distracted him. "U-uh, J-Julie, ma'am?" he stammered, inching towards the Moon Division assistant. His inching increased in speed when the warning flashed.

"The oven, um, should be make a barrier or something?" Instincts had Before summoning Vanna, using the large wheel as a make-shift shield to protect both himself and Julie. Mostly Julie. Even if she was a Moon and higher ranked, she was the one who knew what she was doing.

Right? RIGHT?! /); A;/)

WARNING: CONTENTS HIGHLY VOLATILE, flashed the red dangerously blinking lights on the screen as Julie continued to hum, now mashing the green M&Ms into a bowl with a small hammer.

WARNING: CONTENTS HIGHLY VOLATILE, continued the oven as it began to splutter and cough, very much in some sort of state of death throe as the smoke thickened, a strange, rubbery smell covering the kitchen.

WARNING-

And then suddenly a light ping as the oven message was replaced by a pleasant green: ACTION COMPLETE. HAVE A NICE DAY!

"Oh!" Julie turned towards before, halfway through her M&M paste, "Can you get the oven for me, Alfred?"
