"Its alright, don't worry," Horatio said, trying to not laugh. The newest face to join the low class seemed so nervous, and he couldn't quite understand why. The dark coloured lioness followed the paler one carefully, her steps gentle. Horatio was on his way to find his mate, Amalthea, into helping him gently break her into what the normal was for those in the low class. Kalila had belately followed her brother into the pride. To say that she wasn't disappointed to be in such a low class would be a lie, but it wasn't going to be a signifigant change from how she had been raised. The idea of being equal to males was strange, however...or the fact that there were so many males above her. Hopefully she could cope with that, but the lioness was worried that she was either going to be defiant, or fold at a glance from one in a much higher class than her's.

Amalthea had not always been happy about her place within the pride. Raised here not knowing what her class was, she had had high hopes for what life could be for her. Her disappointment had nearly changed her completely, it was Horatio who had saved her and now with their family, she couldn't imagine herself any happier, slave or not. Even with poor Laelia so distressed.
She had left Laelia to sulk at their den, where she insisted on residing now, intent on giving herself a little break from the complaining. She loved Laelia and she hated Yareha Afaer for her.. but Laelia was far from reasonable when angry at the best of times, and this wasn't one of those times.
"Horatio!" she said, spotting her mate and a vaguely familiar new face in the distance. Company!

"Amalthea!" Ah, perfect! Horatio was glad that she hadn't been too hard to find. He wasn't quite sure why Kalila was so shy around him, but not shy in...well, he didn't know how to explain it. She almost seemed bothered to follow him, but there was no other way to show her around the pride. He figured that it was new jitters, and being in low class had its own issues that he figured she'd overcome with time. He was happy where he was in life, and knew that Kalila could find her own happiness as well.
Kalila peered around Horatio, seeing the lioness that he was calling out to. This must be his mate, the lioness that he had talked about when she was first thrust into his care. She didn't blame whatever lion had done that...if only because she didn't know any thing, how was she going to be of any use to anyone?
Fear welled in her, but she tried to push it down. "Hello," she said quietly.
"This is Kalila, a new face in our class."

Amalthea hurried over to them, a smile on her face. She looked back and forth between them as she was greeted and Kalila was introduced. She looked so nervous, this was hardly one of the more stressful times.. but reassurance was not always easy to handle before you had a chance to absorb where you were now.
"Pleased to meet you officially, Kalila," she said, "It's a shame we don't get the same kind of welcome as the other classes, but it's a harder thing to celebrate. We're not all as gloomy as they make it seem."

Kalila nodded to Amalthea, feeling a bit warmer already with her welcome. It wasn't much, but hearing it from Amalthea was more reassuring than Horatio. He was honest in everything she did, but she knew she was going to have to make a huge mental shift to the fact that males were very much a part of society here. Being a slave was hard, but she felt that...she would be better protected, at least from the outside world she knew almost nothing about. "Its ok," she said with a very soft smile. It was more of a reassurance that she wasn't completely depressed over it. "It isn't a huge jump from my last home...its just the readjusting is hard."
Horatio smiled at the two of them. Well, she seemed better already! "You'll get the hang of it, just stick close to the two of us and we'll get you settled in proper." And try to help her thicken her skin up before it broke. Horatio was worried, only because she seemed to take it so hard (and not in an angry way!).
"How's Laelia doing? Should I check on her later?" He worried about her daughter. Ugh, males!

She was pleased to see Kalila smile, that was already a step in the right direction. It was far better than .. pretty well any alternative. She nodded at the idea of readjusting, knowing it was hard- but at least it was always going to be hard, a new home had challenges no matter what rank you took.
"We'd be happy to help," she added, agreeing with her mate before glancing over to him when he asked about Laelia, shaking her head and sighing, "Laelia is still sulking- and she's an angry sulker."

Kalila was curious about what they were talking about....she presumed a child, as they were mates, why wouldn't they have children? Which made her thing....would she ever take a mate? A male one? She had realized quickly once her pride dissolved that the outside world was much different than she had been raised to believe.
"Thank you," was all she said at the moment. At least she felt...welcome in the company of these two. She would cherish that at this exact moment.
"Oh boy, I guess I should wait a while before checking on her, eh?" He laughed, knowing that his daughter would probably take an ear off if he tried to cheer her up. Laelia was a skilled guard, and as such...was pretty strong. He was happy that she was doing so well, as long as she got past this situation with Yareha Afaer soon. Horatio hated that he couldn't do anything but be there for Laelia, and so that was what he was stuck doing....once she wasn't so angry anymore.

Amalthea laughed. Horatio was probably the only male Laelia liked right now but he was smart not to push his luck. She had half a mind to fine Leto or Horae but she wasn't sure Laelia's single sisters would be comforting company. Or have the same patience with her.
"Our daughter," she explained, realizing Kalila wouldn't have any idea what they were talking about, "Bad break up, you could call it. And she has a bit of a temper."
If Laelia was going to insist on clinging to her parents for so long, all of the slaves would be seeing plenty of her for a little while. Kalila would see her eventually.

"Hey don't laugh at me!" Horatio was so happy that he could get his mate to laugh, even while their daughter thought that the world was ending right now, just in slow motion. "Right, well, I guess we should worry about her again once she's got guard duty?" He hadn't checked to see if maybe someone had been trying to cover her shifts, like Leto or Horae to let Laelia have her time of grief. No one was really going to want a vindictive female around if they could help it.
"Oh. I hope she gets better soon," Kalila said awkwardly, never having been in a relationship before. She hadn't felt strong enough socially to ever try to court one of the others in her pride, and now....she thought she might never feel that way.

"She'll be fine," she said confidently to both of them, sensing the awkwardness in Kalila's response and naturally trying to make the situation lighter. It really wasn't as bad as it seemed to Laelia, she would get over it, she would be just fine.. eventually.
"I didn't even think about her guard duty," Amalthea said finally, looking to Horatio, "Do you suppose she's missed anything while hiding out at our den?"

"I'm not sure....do you think that one of us should go check in on that for her? As much as I don't want to put pressure on her, the last thing I think both of us want is for her to get in trouble for shirking her duties..." Horatio knew that Laelia's world really would end if she was demoted from guard to huntress. If that was even possible, he had no idea.
Kalila glanced at the both of them, completely oblivious to what they were saying. Certainly this was more serious than the two of them made it sound, but she knew that it was within no right for her to say anything. Part of her wanted to meet this Laelia....and the other part of her just wanted to continue staying in the shadows.

Amalthea sighed.
"I'll go talk to Nyota," she said, "He's a friend of my father, I know him more personally or I'd tell you to go. I need a break from sitting around with Laelia, anyway."
She smiled sheepishly. Even knowing it was OK to admit how tiring mothering could be, it still felt wrong. But this was not life or death and Laelia certainly wasn't trying very hard to make it easy.
"Were you two headed anywhere specific?"

"That sounds wise," he said with approval, and a nod. Amalthea was better at talking with those above them than Horatio would ever be.
"I was showing her around, help her get a grounding of sorts before we find her a place to sleep."
Kalila nodded. "It is helpful," she said carefully. It wasn't what she wanted, but she appreciated it. After this short tour, she would sleep, and find someone else to help her. This would happen for a bit, at least until she was deemed useful by those above her, and would do her worst as best she could when she was called on.
It was still terrifying, but seeing how happy Horatio and Alamthea was...it seemed very possible, and comfortable in the end.

"Perfect, then," she said, smiling at the pair of them, "I better go see if I can find Nyota before I forget or get pulled away for something else. It was nice to meet you, Kalila."
With one final sigh, she moved closer and gave Horatio an affectionate nudge before going off on her way, now determined to locate the head guard before anybody noticed Laelia wasn't around.

Horatio was thrilled with the affection Amalthea displayed. To think, she had been so shy in the beginning! Hmph, if he could get Amalthea to open up like that, he could get Kalila to, as well! Just...not in the same way, of course.
"Let's go," he said with a nod, and the two of them trotted off for Kalila to learn a bit more about her new home.
