I think the guild should have a mule .. if it doesn't already.
And perhaps people could donate gold to said mule to keep the contest prize money flowing?
Once I'm no longer sick, I hope to get some of my art to sell. It's harder than all those flashy shops make it look...

Yes that's a good idea but the contest right now is just a standard contest for the new comers. There will be money changes in the later contests which will be 50/50 style to have more of an income to the guild .
so your saying you would like to sell art? we have a sub form just for that and I'm afraid you will need to handle the money people pay you and the money you pay other's. The best way to do that is to do trades.
