The problem with training on the dummies was that they were immobile. Jordan scowled at the dummy in front of him, spun, and slammed Ferros into the thing's head, then followed the strike up with a solid kick to its chest. The dummies might be good for blowing off steam, but they didn't dodge, didn't fight back; they just dumbly took it, and sometimes broke. What use was that for actually learning anything?
Ferros snorted in the back of his head. Listen to you.
What?
First couple of fights we had, you were waffling about how you weren't a fighter and how much it was bothering you how you were liking it. Now you're bitching about having nobody to practice on, Ferros laughed.
Grudgingly, Jordan quirked a smile. I've changed, huh?
No, you've just gotten more honest.
"Whether that's true or not," Jordan shot back, "it doesn't change the problem at hand. I still don't have anyone to practice on."

'Fog.'
'There's not much to 'spy' here... It's either fog, or-'
She paused, squinting at a figure standing on the training grounds before making a beeline straight for said person; it had been a while since she sparred with anyone, partially due to her previous injuries from that day, but now that she was here... Well, might as well get a bit of training in! Besides, who would want to train on dumb dummies when they could train on someone else?
"Hey there!" She summoned her own weapon, gripping tightly onto the chains as she walked towards the figure. Now that she was closer, though, she could see that it was actually a familiar face, rather than one of the newer trainees who had recently awoken. Grinning, she glanced briefly at the dummy and then back to the hunter, "Jordan, right? I've heard a few people call you boss before, though... Why, up for a bit for training?"

Looks like your problem solved itself, Ferros pointed out.
I'm not going to argue with good luck. "Hey," Jordan answered with a smile. The woman approaching was another of the Strays; he didn't think they'd ever had an actual conversation, but she was familiar. "Yeah, I'm Jordan. You're Ariane, right?" He grinned. "Didn't I hear someone calling you boss too?"
He rested Ferros across his shoulder, eyeing Ariane's weapon with curiosity. Melee, but longer-ranged than Ferros; he'd have to be careful not to let her use the chain to pull the hammer out of his hand. He could resummon, sure, but that would lose him time. "Always up for training," he replied. "You bored too?"

"You heard right," She laughed, grinning as she eyed the weapon in his hand; it's a giant hammer... Of sorts. What was with the male hunters on the island? It was like a lot of them were trying to compensate for something. That or the weapons were clearly trolling them, "However, I prefer Ariane." Besides, having a boss call her boss would be both weird, uncomfortable, and a little confusing for all parties involved.
"Not so much bored as..."
"... Just itching to move," She flexed her fingers, her grip on the chains tightening as she got into an offensive stance, allowing Jordan to get ready as well, "Never had a good spar since I healed up."

"I wouldn't presume," Jordan answered, smiling. "I'm only boss to my team, anyway. I'd figure it'd be the same."
"Likewise," he said. "I don't like being out of action so long, either. That was just unpleasant all over." He flexed the fingers of his left hand; his mind had already blocked out the memory of pain, but the memory of the crunch and snap of breaking bone remained.
He swung Ferros down off his shoulder into a ready position, held angled out to the side and slightly back, and grinned. "What are you waiting for?"

"For you to get ready~" She grinned, lurching forward suddenly, Kintama held at her side. Once she was within Kintama's hitting range, she stopped, the sole of her shoe digging into the ground as she swung her weapon out, aiming for his legs.
"I have to agree," She hopped a few steps backwards, putting some distance between them, "Although I have a feeling that that won't be the end of it... Hadn't seen Caelius around since that day, after all."

He'd mostly faced off against people with bladed weapons or creatures with claws and teeth; though the force of impact was a familiar feeling, he was usually on the other end of it, and Jordan had to take a quick sidestep to keep his balance. Got to be ready for anything, he reminded himself.
The form of her weapon would be difficult to defend with, he thought, and realized that he hadn't caught the other weapon's name, nor introduced his own. "Where are my manners?" he said lightly. "This is Ferros." A step in and to the side, and he brought Ferros around in a lazy arc towards Ariane's side.
"I'm inclined to say we haven't seen the last of him," he said. "He's a tough b*****d."

She took a step back, hands holding either side of her weapon pulling the chains taut, using that as a way to defend herself against the hammer; however, the force she felt pushing down still hurt her hands, even through the gloves.
"Ah right," She chuckled at the introduction, "And this is Kintama." There was something about the way she said his name that implied 'if you know what that name means, don't say it'.
"You're probably right," She had to admit that despite how much she didn't like him as a person, he was really strong where hunters were concerned... Something she could admire in a leader, "He's one tough kitty. Probably has 6 out of his 9 lifes left." A step forward, and her weapon was swung upwards before being brought down on his legs yet again.

Jordan raised an eyebrow at the inflection in Ariane's voice; no, he didn't know, but she'd just made him curious. He'd be checking the library later.
He laughed at the nine lives comment. "I think you're right. He is pretty catlike, huh?" The ball came swinging at his leg again; he shifted his weight and stayed loose, letting the force push him to the side again without anything worse than a bruise. "Doesn't turn up when you expect him to but always does when you don't, demands that you drop everything and pay attention to him whenever he wants, and that disdainful attitude towards everyone."
He turned and swung again, aiming low this time; if she was going to play that way, he could too. It was still play, too, both of them more interested in the idle conversation so far.

"There's one big difference between cats and Caelius though," She winced when she failed to move out of the way of Jordan's weapon fast enough; ugh, she could already feel a bruise forming, "While cats can get away with being grumpy assholes because they're so adorable when they look grumpy, Caelius just looks... Like he swallowed something sour."
At least she respected him and the unwritten rules of the universe enough to not attack him directly below the belt.
Taking a quick side step, she swung Kintama out again, using more force this time, still aiming at the same area on his legs, hoping that it would throw him off if she kept at it. Breaking off, she took a few steps backwards, "Maybe I should start imagining him as a cat. Ah~ I can feel my life becoming so much brighter already." She could also already feel Kintama throbbing in her hands, but... They just got into the spar. She was still warming up, and she was sure that Jordan was too.
Mentally sighing, she started to put distance between then, making sure to keep her eyes on him as she retreated.

Jordan laughed. "I'm sure someone somewhere thinks that's cute, but I kind of hope I don't know them personally," he said. "You know, Marcus actually got himself turned into a cat for a while? Julie's cookies."
The impact of the ball made him stagger this time; he'd need to start attempting to block if he didn't want to be bruised too badly. Then again, so would she. He followed Ariane's retreat, bringing Ferros back farther before lunging and sweeping the hammer forward, putting some muscle into it. Time to get a bit more serious about this.

"The only girls who would find that attractive are probably otakus, dreaming of some grumpy prince who would take them away," She huffed, rolling her eyes; she wouldn't like a guy who was all sunshine and rainbows all the time - that would be pretty annoying - but a healthy balance of both would be nice, "What? Seriously? Julie should really not be allowed to run free."
She tried to imagine Marcus as a cat, the mental image causing her to lose concentration for a split second, until the force of Jordan's weapon caused her to refocus. In retaliation, Kintama was swung over her head and then down at her training partner's shoulder before she clutched her own arm, muttering something under her breath. As she continued to retreat, a grin slowly grew on her lips, "Nice."

"Ota - oh yeah, I've heard that term." Jordan backed up a few steps, rolling his shoulder where the ball had struck him; a little higher and it would've got him in the side of the head. He appreciated that Ariane hadn't gone for that. "I'm not sure how Julie's a division assistant. Unless she's gotten crazier since she got assigned." He snorted. "She gave me a box of those cookies. Wasn't sure whether to chuck them in the incinerator or hand them over to the Life labs."
Ferros rumbled an impatient growl. Want to flame, he snarled. Need to flame.
Shall we show off? They'd both backed off, out of range, but now Jordan had the advantage of a clear space to do a short sprint to build up momentum. He waited until Ariane's eyes flickered briefly away, then charged straight at her; at the last moment, he planted his forward foot and spun, bringing Ferros around in a rapid circle. The soft whump of displaced air was louder than usual, and the size of the fireball that exploded around the hammer's head startled him, but not enough to throw his aim off.

"I bet she did," Ariane frowned, "Then again, none of the leaders seem normal to me... Maybe except Clarice. Or perhaps being crazy is a pre-requisite to holding a leadership position." She paused at the mention of Julie cookies.
"Those sound dangerous, actually," Even she had to admit that she wouldn't use those to pull a prank on anyone.
"Ah, shi-" The force of the explosion stung like hell, and actually threw her stumbling backwards. Her hands were up to protect her face from the explosion, but it also threw her off balance, causing her to fall painfully on her tail bone, rendering her unable to stand up for the time being.
Her fingers were still wrapped tightly around the chains of her weapon, however, as it continued to throb, Kintama whining and impatient for release.
Swinging it backwards while she was still on the ground, Ariane tossed her weapon in Jordan's direction, using that time to push herself off the ground and back on her feet. Meanwhile, the chains of the bolas extended as the steel balls on either end expanded in size, the momentum generated allowing it to wrap around Jordan's calves and ankles.
"Kintama!" The weapon flashed bright blue once and vanished, appearing briefly as its desummoned form - a necklace - in Ariane's hand before regaining its original appearance. Despite the pain she was feeling, she managed to grin, "Pretty impressive attack."
