Planning took a lot out of him, and though his meet and treat with Chuppi had been a great break from it, it hadn't taken the zomboil long to hit the wall again once he returned to work. Skeletal and muscular terms were floating about in his head long after he'd stopped researching and conducting experiments; made his brain ache really. Lanna eased some of the pain by making him take her out on walks (sometimes with the pig imps if they so chose), but it was monotonous work nonetheless - rewarding in the end, he knew, but the journey was painstakingly slow.

Thus when he realized it was Spiderday, Mort was more than ready to leave campus and get some fresh air. He'd sent Game Grave an electronic application for a job there, and perhaps stopping by physically would help his chances. Plus, he remembered just a tad belatedly, a certain ghoul had said she'd be working this day, and he wouldn't mind giving his brain a rush of caffein after all that idle buzzing; especially if it was a free hit. A quick message on groan spring would alert Gene of his coming:

Carhop Calvalier
Groanspring Message: On my way now, gimme 15 min

Taking a light jacket (the colder weather was lovely) and his backpack full of his preferred gadgets, Mortimer shuffled his way off campus and into the maul, pushing his temporary replacement glasses up self-consciously. He seriously needed to get a new pair, but he didn't have the money yet. Maybe if he asked Mama . . . But a pang of guilt hit him. He hadn't contacted his mom in over half a year, not really at least.

Mrrr. Worry over that later. Right now, time to find Bloodbucks. And thus the zomboil began to wade through the crowd, peering for the identifiable logo.

Work had been, of course, work. Her customers varied from one to the other; some rude, some fabulous, and some just normal. There were extravagant orders that a chemist would have a hard time deciphering, regular drink orders, and the occasional food order here and there. She took their seeds, work smile all aglow, while trying to keep her own Fear in check. She'd been having more and more trouble holding herself together lately, to the point where her limbs would start dissolving into wisps if she broke concentration for more than a few seconds.

Her phone buzzed during a lull in the orders, and she quickly responded, ears turning a faint shade of pink. Mort was coming! Eee~!

Ol-j-man
Groanspring: Okay! If you don't know where we are, the store's next to Zombiez, right across from HacMoon. See you soon! C:

Shetold one of her coworkers to work the register for a short while, before rushing off to the restroom to redo her hair into something she thought Mort might like (oh the joys of being a Doppelganger). She may have also undone one of her uniform buttons. And applied perfume. Maybe.

Luckily for her she didn't have to rush - zombies were notorious slow creatures, and the maul today was a-filled with the Scarentines-present-looking bunch; well, the more responsible ones at least. Zombiez and HacMoon, got it . . . It took a bit of meandering, but eventually Mort spotted the Bloodbucks sign and sighed in relief, briefly checking his watch: sixteen minutes walking, not bad!

The smell of coffee beans vaguely mixed with the scent of small pastries filled his nostrils as he entered, along with something . . . sweeter? It didn't smell like food. Weird. "Hi hi!" he greeted the awaiting Gene, hefting his backpack a bit. "Did not keep wait long, yes?" Her hair was held up today, probably part of the uniform so that it wouldn't get in her eyes.

Did it escape him that one of her buttons was a little undone? Only a little, but after dealing with so many well-endowed ghouls (most of whom had significant others of some sort), Mort had learned not to look even when his brain went DO IT.

Gene's smile went wide as she saw the zombie boil, waving enthusiastically as she saw him come towards the cafe. He was here! He was here he was here he was here! She gave him a good once over, noting his jacket and glasses.

Those glasses. They were so under the radar, so sexily defiant to modern trends. Needless to say, Gene was having slight glasses lust, along with a boost of her interest in the zomboil wearing them.

"Oh no, not long! Work's busy, so time just slipped by." Her voice was pleasant and cheerful, eyes locked on to Mort's, reading them for any sort of expression. What was he thinking at the moment? What could she use for hints and nudges?

Oh, was that... strain? She could see that his eyes were not looking down, though it seemed like the wanted to. Hmmm...

She subtly leaned forward over the counter, still keeping her eyes trained on the boil. "So, what can I get you to drink? Something hot and steamy?"

Alright, he couldn't help a glance this time when she leaned. But just a glance. Little one. Leeetle. The eyeballing she was giving him probably helped, along with that funny choice of wording; or maybe it wasn't funny, who knew - he wasn't one who frequented coffee places. "E-Er. Not sure, never had coffee 'fore?" Mort replied hesitantly, thinking she was staring at him because of his choice in lenses for a very different reason. Maybe he should take them off? But then he couldn't read the menu, or for that matter see much of anything. Gaaaah.

Well as long as she didn't notice that one peek, he was okay right?

"Don't have j-just blood, yes? Not that would mind, but . . . more meat guy. Sweet n' cold?" he suggested.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:51 pm

She did see that glance Mort. She saw, and she was pleased. In fact, she contemplated slightly increasing her bust size, but in the end decided against it. Her satisfaction was achieved for now, so it was on to actually giving the boil his coffee.

Hold the phone. He'd never had coffee before? That needed changing this instant.

"Yeah, we've got blood, but you need to experience coffeeeeeee~"She spoke about coffee like one of those hunks on those smutty books she saw a few people reading on campus. You know, those big muscular ones who have long silky hair and nice pecs and-

Right. Mort needs coffee.

"Tell you what, Mort. I'll whip you up something hot, but if you don't like it, I'll get you something cold and sweet. Deal? Deal."Those who didn't know the Doppelganger would be surprised by the sudden change in attitude as she led Mort to a table and sat him down. Her friends, however, knew that coffee was serious business to the ghoul, and she was on a mission to spread it to everyone.

"Be right back hon. You'll love it!

o3o Mort was all too easily to lead on, the mood whiplash disorienting him. Also that tone of voice. You'd think she was reading one of his, ah, less respectable visual novels . . . "O-Okay?" Mort managed to say before Gene floated off to do her thing, blinking. Well, might as well get settled during the wait. He gently slid his backpack to the floor, zipped it open, and pulled out his laptop.

Always checking Groanspring, never not checking Groanspring. Good thing coffee places tended to have free scry-fi services.

Gene set herself to work instantly, telling Bryce - another coworker- to man the register. She was going to make something EPIC today. Bryce moved, giving the ghoul a small wink. He knew what was up.

The espresso machine was turned on, the blood pulled out of the cooler, the milk steamed, and the cinnamon applied liberally to the cream. At its base elements, it was a simple cappuccino. With Gene's touch, however, it became something worthy of a zomboil. At least, in her opinion.

"Alright Bryce, cover me while I'm gone. I'll owe you one." Her coworker only had time to nod and give a short 'good luck' before getting a face full of apron. She was going off uniform for this one.

She placed the cup of amazing in front of Mort, smiling, though a little shy. "Here you go hon. Hope it's to your liking!" She sat down opposite of him, awaiting his first sip with wide doe eyes.

If this drink sucked, she'd screwed everything up.

"Mrrr . . ." Nothing on Groanspring today, like yesterday and the day before. Le sigh. Then again people were probably not paying attention to the inter webs as much when getting ready for Scarentines. When Gene returned with his drink, Mort pushed the top of his laptop down some and reached over, a little surprised to feel how hot the drink felt in his hand; or maybe that was just in contrast to how cold he normally was, who knew?

He blew on it for several seconds, smelling the cinnamon. It reminded him a little bit of peppermint the way it tickled his nose, but at least cinnamon didn't make him want to immediately gag. A couple extra seconds of blowing just in case! And then he tried a sip.

Still a bit hot, but . . . "Not bad. What is?" he asked the ghoul, a little tickled as the warm liquid fell down his trachea. "Can smell cinnamon."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 10, 2012 3:11 pm

Not bad? That was a good thing, right? She hoped it was a good thing. Did he like the cinnamon? He made a note about it - that meant he liked it right? Oh Jack please let him have liked it. Oh Jack oh Jack oh Jack!

Her insides did flips as she opened her mouth to speak, trying to keep her practiced expression on. Her nervousness peaked through a few times, obviously wanting to ruin her life. Stupid nervousness.

"It's a cappuccino with two shots of blood, and cinnamon cream. I thought the cinnamon would be a nice touch, since it's an aromatic and a flavor booster. You know, to cut the tang of the blood." She wrung her hands under the table, still wondering if he actually likedthe drink.

"If that kind of drink isn't your thing, I can whip up a blood flappuccino for you, or something along those lines. We have eyescream too, if that sounds good."

Mort looked thoughtful for a moment, sniffing the coffee once more before sipping again. The way the ghoul spoke of her coffee really revealed how passionate she was about the art of brewing! "Would . . . like to try all, if can?" o3o Hey, he wasn't going to pass on some free stuff, especially from a ghoul who seemed rather eager to give it to him for some reason. Whatever evidence of Gene's nervousness there was, the zomboil was oblivious; he wasn't exactly good on catching social cues to begin with, and in her case they were only fleeting tics.

Mort's eyes did light up at the option of eyescream, though. "Goes well with coffee?" he asked Gene, and then added with a smile, "Eyescream a-always good, methinks. But trust n' ghoul with experience. Something with brains, maybe?"
PostPosted: Sat Feb 11, 2012 9:01 am

Well, he seemed to enjoy the drink, as he continued sipping on it. That was good! Now to just try and enchant him a little more with her coffee magic. Oh my, that was a funny thought: a witch who specialized in coffee! How funny that would be. "Sure, sure! I'll whip up a flappuccino for your trip back to Amity. Eyescream is best with the hot coffee though. I'm sure we've got something with brains... The doppelganger ghoul trailed off as she floated back to the bar, ducking underneath to get to the eyescream fridge.

Oh, good! There was still a tub of "Brainy Bunch" eyescream left. It was quite popular with the zombie crowd, as well as some monsters. Gene herself had yet to try it, but it seemed appealing. It was a combination of vanilla, brains, nut clusters, raisins, and chocolate pieces, all embraced in a cherry flavour. Every one of their customers always said it was perfectly balanced, so Gene trusted their judgement, and put one heft scoop into a bowl for Mort.

She came back to Mort's table, biting a little on her lower lip. This was not going as planned. They were supposed to be sitting, laughing, telling stories about each others lives. That'd come eventually... she hoped."Here we are, Mort, the best reviewed coffee eyescream at Bloodbucks." She sat down opposite of him after giving him the eyescream, and sat back. Coffee mode deactivated.

"So, um... Mort. I know this is a little strange, since we've only talked on Groanspring. Tell me about yourself." Awkward? Nope. Never awkward. Gene was the epitome of not awkward.

And Hunters were all actually nice loving people who wanted everyone to just be happy with their lives.

Mmmm . . . Even when frozen he could smell the brain chunks. Blood and brains~ =3= He took another swig of the coffee but held it in his mouth rather than swallowing, then scooped some of the eyescream into his mouth. It startled his tongue to find the island of coldness in the sea of warmth, but Mort swirled and chewed it about in his mouth anyway until it was a soupy concoction - and then swallowed.

Vanilla, good. Brains, great. Nut clusters, interesting. Chocolate pieces, yummmm. Cherry flavor, also interesting but not bad.

Raisins. x~x

But all in all a successful experimentation! Even if his teeth tingled in some protest at the harsh contrast between coffee and eyescream.

By the time his brain was finished processing these flavors, Gene had asked him something which he had to take a few seconds to remember what it was. "E-Er, lessee . . . Like experimenting, tinkering, vidyo games, n' interwebs?" And boobs. Legs came in a second, butt last. You really couldn't' go wrong with boobs in his book.

"Oh! N' like eyescream. G-Good choice, but wish no raisins."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 12, 2012 1:15 am

"Ah... I'll remember that next time." So, no raisins for this Zomboil, she could do that. He liked the coffee and eyescream over all, so she considered this a success in both the worlds of barista and pursuer. Now to get to know him a little better - she wouldn't want to be a creeper and like him for now reason, no would she?

Video games, tinkering, experimenting, and interwebs, hm? Video games and interwebs were nice ice breaker topics, but Gene's curiosity was piqued bat the mention of tinkering and experimenting. One could never say that Gene didn;t talk about what got her gears going. "Tinkering, you said? What kind of tinkering? Like...what does it entail? Any current projects?"

Good thing Mort hadn't said "experimenting", or else things could've gotten . . . interesting.

"Well, have two projects: battle goggles n' robohand," he explained, tapping his glasses. "Friend Hel s-say be good n'vestment, not can see well. These're replacements; b-broke real ones n' exam."

Sigh.

"Robohand second project, w-will do soon. Think will help control FEAR better. Use 'electricity, d-dead flesh not best conduit, see." Picking out visible raisins, he scooped several more spoonfuls of eyescream into his mouth. "But is 'spensive, not sure if can make good one . . . Need high quality stuff."
