So yeah, comments and questions would be good. This is the first time we are attempting something like this so feedback would be amazing. Thanks.

Looks pretty good. The rust on the shutters (is that rust?) looks a little to uniform, and the wall could have used a bit more detail (maybe some riot bars, or a gutter?). Those are really just nitpicks though. It establishes an oppressive, Dystopian setting, the statue in the background shows the wide-scale social division, and establishes the antagonist as having some sort of god complex.
Good work!
You could have also added a fan spinning slowly in front of a light source. I hear those are all the rage these days.

Oh, and that isn't rust on the shutters, its wood blinds. If I had thought of it, I could have used a real wood texture, but GIMP always seems to tweak out on me when I do. Thanks for the tips.

The shutters are sort of coloured similarly too the rust, so I guess that's why I was confused. I wouldn't obsess over the details too much, you're art is already eye catching, and your art will improve as you go along. How are you trying to apply these textures? With an overlay?

I import the texture as a picture, then cut out the shape I need. What ussually happens is that the new layer I create is completely white with the textured shape in the middle. I then have to carefully erase all the white by hand without erasing the texture. To do all that for just some blinds, I decided to leave it out this time. I am sure there is a better way, I just don't know of one.

Merge them together and you've got a layer mask you can use to hide all the white you don't want. I can send you a PM with the tutorial, if you want. Who knows, it might end up saving you a lot of time in the future.

Yeah, I had a feeling that there might be some people who thought it sounded like the magazine, but the name has nothing to do with it and if there was anything the same between covers it was unintentional. Thanks for pointing that out though.
