Mist Hunter The Miss Taken Tower General Information As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.
The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.
If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.
If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.
Part 1 Mechanics - roll your regular attack - roll your regular attack again - if you miss an attack, you lose 50% of your full HP - if you have an available recovery bonus, you may try to use that to avoid HP loss
Bonus Mechanics - This bonus is consumable. - for the Mist Course, it is recommended you review the mechanics of the other division courses, as the division bonuses carry over.
- Trainees: 0 recoveries - Mist/Sun Trainees: 1 recovery - Hunters: 1 recovery - Mist/Sun Hunters: 2 recoveries
Part 2 Mechanics - there are two steps worth of traps in this room, so you'll be rolling twice
- roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll 1 d10 to determine what your character is about to step into - use your bonus mechanic to adjust as you can - adjust your HP and bonus count accordingly - roll list: (feel free to get creative about what the traps actually were) (-50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd)
01. horrible death 02. - 50% HP 03. - 50% HP 04. live 05. live 06. - 50% HP 07. horrible death 08. - 50% HP 09. horrible death 10. live
Bonus Mechanics - This bonus is consumable.
- Trainees: 1 flag - Mist/Death Trainees: 1 flag and one instinctive move - Hunters: 1 flag and one instinctive move - Mist/Death Hunters: 1 flag and two instinctive moves
Part 3 Mechanics - use the given roll for your hunter to try and open the lock on her right manacle. Rolling a 1 means you fumbled, and the cuff exploded causing both you and the princess to lose 50% of your full HP. - roll to repeat the process on the left manacle.
Bonus Mechanics
- Trainees: roll 1d4 - Mist/Life Trainees: roll 1d6 - Hunters: roll 1d6 - Mist/Life Hunters: roll 1d8
Part 4 Mechanics - roll 2 d8 to determine your defense against the trap area. - roll 2 d8 to determine how much trap damage targets the princess. - adjust her HP accordingly - roll 2 d8 to determine your defense against the shadowling area. - roll 2 d8 to determine how much shadow damage targets the princess. - adjust her HP accordingly - leftover defense does not stack
Bonus Mechanics
- Trainees: +0 defense - Mist/Moon Trainees: + 2 defense - Hunters: + 2 defense - Mist/Moon Hunters: + 3 defense

Admiring the tower, newly repaired and modified, Velda felt a thrill of anticipation even as she fussed with her headset and waited for her two volunteers to arrive. Edmund was probably going to fuss over having to leave his project, but she needed to see a variety of hunters work their way through this course. Also she felt he needed to spend more time with the other hunters, at least for more than just verbal harassment and...well...
Her cheeks heated up as she very firmly chose not to speculate, and instead switched her line of thought to Aria. The girl needed to spend time with hunters of other divisions just as badly as her assistant, if not more so. It wasn't her place to judge other divisions but...it wasn't her place to judge. She was not going to judge. But if she could help the trainee socialize more with the other divisions, maybe she wouldn't gain that...edge of resentment some of the more senior Mist hunters held toward the rest of Deus. Edmund would help, surely, he was often very charming around pretty women so maybe...hopefully...
The Life leader sighed.
And then there was...
"Aurora, come in. Do you read me Aurora?" Caelius had failed to bring her back a souvenir from his last mission to Russia. She wasn't sure if this was because he had forgotten (about her) or had been too busy (to remember she existed) or if it was just a matter of him disliking her. Any of these made her feel...hurt. So maybe this was a little bit punishment, a little bit of a reminder that she existed and had needs, and a little bit of an excuse to spend time with Liam's son.

Beyond the pink princess dress and sparkly princess hat, were the shackles really that necessary? When Caelius said he would volunteer, he had actually meant he had no choice but to volunteer because like it or not, Velda was the Life Division leader. One simply did not say no to Division Leaders.
And that was how he ended up, thirty minutes later, in a sparkly pink princess dress and hat - which he had worn over his coat thank you very much no amount of cajoling and watery large eyes was going to convince him otherwise - on top of some freaking tower. How did they even move this structure into the training fields in the first place? Slowly, the trainee peered down.
At least thirty feet of tower plus ground stared back at him. His princess hat might have also fallen off. Oh for the love of-
-"Do you read me Aurora?"
And then there, over the headset, was Caelius's re-christened princess name. The sun trainee audibly flinched. He considered just running away, but wait, he couldn't because he had volunteered to be shackled to the top of some thirty foot archaic stone tower very much like a princess. Maybe if he tried some sort of excuse. "Yes I'm here but its uh," he looked around, trying to figure out an excuse, "I'm afraid of heights so I really don't think I should be here, you know." Wait, this was Velda, it would take more than that to convince her. "And I really need to use the washroom."

Was this really okay? Aria couldn't help but to feel guilty after receiving the orders from the Life Division leader. As a new recruit, she was bound to any and all orders, and Velda's request overrode her intermediate hunter's training session. Then again, Aria realized, it probably meant that the next time they met she would have to train twice as hard to make up for it. Such was the way of the Mists.
She didn't drag her heels as she followed the directions she had been given, paying extra attention to the numbers of twists and turns. A majority of her training took place off Deus, away from the conflicting influence of the other divisions. It wouldn't do the Mists any good to have their newest be recruited into another division, would it? Not at all. It was uncommon to come across a trainee with no attachments, no familiarity with anyone else. She was an ideal Mist candidate, ready to be shaped to their particular uses and specifications.
All in all, it left the trainee feeling quite out of place as she arrived at the Miss Taken Tower. She craned her head back as she looked up, distaste written across her face. Was she seriously supposed to climb that and rescue someone at the top? Seriously? She continued to stare as the sparkling pink princess hat fluttered down from the tower, her blue eyes tracking its progress.
"You've got to be ******** kidding me."

Velda felt a pang as the hat fell. She had spent all morning making that hat. She had used up all her BeDazzler supplies. It was work of blood, sweat, and tears, and she'd been so happy to give it to Caelius.
And he threw it down on the ground.
Her normally sweet expression grew rigid as she answered back, "You will stay where you are, trainee." Then the diminutive leader turned said expression on Aria, "This will be the Mist training area. If you find that to be a joke, then I suggest you speak with your division leader." She huffed a bit and waited for her assistant. He better not be off playing around...
When Edmund finally did arrive, her eyes narrowed at his slightly rumpled appearance and the sardonic twist of his lips, as he opened his mouth to greet her.
She glared.
He closed his mouth and straightened his posture ever so slightly, though it didn't keep him from giving Aria thorough once-over.
Velda cleared her throat with a petulant scowl, "Edmund. Aria. You'll be testing the Princess Tower. The goal is to get past the enemies and traps, and rescue the princess. You only win if everyone is fully conscious when you leave. This is a course featuring the important aspects of each division, bringing them together into a cohesive whole relevant to the Mist division and their capabilities." Another glare at Aria.
Crossing her arms, she sent them off with an encouraging, "If you're ready, then just go."

Though Velda was nowhere in sight, the sun trainee still straightened up rather considerably, giving the thin air a serious look as he echoed a 'Yes'm'.
Though Caelius did manage to keep this rigid expression for a fair period of time, his expression was slowly faltering as he heard the words 'Princess Tower' from Velda, and perhaps the words 'rescue the princess'. And who on earth were Edmund and Aria - moresoever, could he really count on them not to spill not a word of this post training exercise? He had a short but hopefully fulfilling life ahead of him, and he was rather hoping its duration would not be filled with continuous questions about his ah, dressing habits.
The Sun trainee leaned over again against the tower, watching the three specks down below, suddenly conflicted as to whether or not he really wanted to be rescued like this. Velda didn't have cameras up here right, it would be okay if he took off the dress right? Slowly, very carefully, he lifted up the hem of the skirt to try. He could just say it accidentally fell off, just like the hat.

Aria was too naive and inexperience to prevent the are you ******** serious expression from crossing her features as she leveled a disbelieving stare at Velda's answer. This was how the island Mists trained?! Geez, no wonder she spent most of her time off at the outposts. Nevermind the fact that even then she was sent further out into near isolation with only one or two other hunters who periodically ditched her in order to ensure that she could in fact survive on her own. It sucked. Maybe the tower wasn't that bad of a thing after all. It certainly beat having creepy things jump out in the middle of the night. That thought was crumpled up, thrown aside and set on fire as soon as Edmund arrived. Yeah. Aria really, really wished she was elsewhere right now. As Velda debriefed them, Aria again stared at the division leader as she struggled to keep a neutral expression. It didn't work. A frown continued to twitch on her lips the more she heard about their goal. Princess? Winning? This was stupid. Her opinion did not stop the trainee from giving Velda a salute, followed by a quick "Yes ma'am." It was an automatic, knee-jerk response drilled into her. Without waiting for further instruction, Aria moved forward quickly and entered the tower. Once inside Aria summoned her weapon and jerked it up, sending a gush of cold fire straight into the incoming shadows. She did a fantastic job of failing to look like a badass. Edmund carefully did not prod his leader into further sulking, and there's no doubt that was what had occurred. He eyed the girl leading the way, and wondered briefly what she could have done to so upset Velda. She'd visibly struggled to take the Life leader seriously, but most people did that daily, especially those in other divisions. He studied the Mist hunter's movements as he summoned Marie. "Not bad at all, my dear." He was possibly commenting on her fighting skills. Possibly. The glowing blades of the whip flew past her, striking into the shadows, and he used the opportunity to close the distance and take a closer look at the trainee. "I've always so admired how... versatile the Mist women are." Status Stage: 1Your HP: Princess HP: 40/40 Stage 1 Recoveries: Stage 2 Flags and Instincts: Stage 4 Bonus HP:

Well, the good news is that two of them had entered the tower vicinity, or so it seemed. Caelius squinted again, holding on to his glasses as he adjusted them, stared way down and-
-Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.
In his defense, he had totally not noticed the nail sticking out of the trap door like that. The ridiculously flimsy dress fell apart in one fell swoop, and before the sun trainee could even ponder at what exactly he had done, the wind had already done the rest of the job, carrying away half the fabric.
And there he was, watching rather helplessly as half the dress floated in the air before fluttering rather dramatically towards the ground, a little behind where Velda stood. The other half was still stuck against the trap door. Oh s**t, quick, quick, quick, distract the Life Leader, code ******** red.
"Ah," Caelius piped up suddenly through the headset, "Did I mention how pretty your um..... your hair is today, Ve- miss Division Leader?"

Her stern [removed](along with her heart) broke as the pink material fell, and Velda stared woefully up at the tower. Why did Caelius hate her and everything that she gave him? She turned her gaze to the ground, her stomach aching and chest hurting. Maybe she should have done this on another day...she wasn't feeling well today, even though she'd taken care to eat and wear warm clothes.
"Did I mention how pretty your um..... your hair is today, Ve- miss Division Leader?"
Her face flushed and suddenly she was feeling warm, and a little giddy, "Um...you...you really think so?"
Maybe she should brush it more often.

Damn it! Aria released the trigger on her weapon, squeezing her eyes shut as the after-affect image of the bright fire scorched the inside of her eyelids. She was wearing a perfectly good pair of goggles on her head, goggles that did nothing unless worn properly. It didn't matter that it was a dark room; she should have slid them down and worn them before attacking. She was lucky that none of the other Mists could see her and comment. Or extract disci- wait. Wait. Were there cameras? The trainee rubbed her eyes frantically, trying to clear them. She didn't see anythi- "Not bad at all, my dear."Oh hell. Panic began to rise in her throat as the whip flew past her, startling her enough to sidestep off to one side away from it. Her sidestep, however, brought her into the midst of the shadows. It was easy enough to scramble back, right into Edmund. She froze. Her face grew flush as Edmund's words sank in, her mind making leaps and bounds through hoops of irrational logic. "Wh-" She sputtered, trying to catch up with her thoughts. Mists were versatile: fact. Most were, others specialized, others were in the division long enough to realize that another division offered better things and defected to that. Mist women? Made sense, a majority of Mists were women. Men didn't stick around for many different reasons. The sheer weight of innuendo held in that single word linked with Mist women, however, prompted Aria to lunge forward and spin, lifting her heeled foot in a kick directed at where she thought H was. " Nothankyouwhilethat'snicetosayIdon'tthinknow'sthetimeoranythinglikethatconsidering," Aria babbled, her face growing even hotter as she took a step back, adding, "Let'skeepmovingokay?!" He recovered through sheer incredulous rage, and stormed (or rather, limped angrily up) the stairs, more than ready for the next set. The good news was that it was working, he had averted a crisis and distracted Velda's attention. The bad news was that he had distracted Velda's attention.
There were a few moments where Caelius just held his breath and wished with all his being that perhaps maybe now someone would burst out from the trap door and save him from digging his own grave. And by grave be meant demise. And by demise he meant impending demise.
Okay, the only way to solve things was clearly, by thinking things through. Step one: test the shackles. He shook them, pulling on it experimentally a few times. Alright, it seemed as if they were thankfully malleable. All he needed was his runic daggers - which he reached for and-
