Ok, so, Mkate would never ever admit to the fact that he thought about girls. At least in the sense of being mated one day. His mother wasn't really the best example of being a good mate (even though she ended up being an excellent mother, early-on mistakes put aside), which made it hard to really imagine what it might be like. But still! It was easy to wonder about it when you saw other couples getting together. Not all of them stayed together....which Mkate wasn't certain about. But. It looked...nice.
Suppressing a sigh, he wondered if perhaps he should work towards a goal. There had been a call recently for more diversity among the ranks, and though he wasn't set on being a nanny, a scout wouldn't be bad. Then he could shadow his mother on her trips, as his younger siblings were getting big enough to start learning how to hunt for the pride.
Babbling to himself mentally, he wandered towards the watering hole, nodding politely to faces he recognized before dipping his head down to drink.

Hamamu had spotted Mkate coming a mile away. Having nothing better to do and always enjoying playing games with her cousin, she had very quickly hidden herself before he spotted her- and then she watched from the shadows as he walked up to the water for a drink. She noticed he seemed to be mumbling and he seemed familiar with plenty of the other lions around.. and she might have been, too, if she bothered to check.
Once he was drinking peacefully, she sneaked back out from hiding (ignoring the funny looks from the nearby lions who served as a partial hiding spot) and up behind Mkate. She had a couple options and, not being sure she could push him over if she tried now that he was so big, she opted for jumping up beside him.
"Mkate!" she screeched as she jumped up, slipping in the damp earth by the water but catching herself before more than half her toes got wet.

Mkate jumped, feeling his skin ripple against his muscles as his entire body tensed up. He was not...well, he should have been ready for it, but he wasn't, and Hamamu had caught him at a fairly good moment, as far as scaring someone near death was concerned!
"Hamamu!" His eyes were a bit far open as he stared at her for a moment, trying to absorb what just happened. He almost forgot that he had been drinking water, but there was still some dripping off of his maw, and as such everything was starting to come back to him.
"Geez, scare me into the water hole. Then no one would want to drink out of it!" He tried to laugh, but it felt a bit strained. He would blame it on the fact that he was still recovering from her antics.
"I guess I should have expected it, coming from you." He shook his head, but now he was genuinely smiling.

Hamamu giggled at Mkate's expression when she popped up and as he recovered-- and even made a joke at his own expense. This little joke couldn't have gone more perfectly. She beamed at him when he shook his head at her, moving in and headbutting him affectionately before stepping back andn shaking the water from her paws.
"You looked like you could use a little fun to go with your drink," she said, wrinkling her nose as she tried her best to shake the water from her paw in his direction-- but it was far more difficult than it seemed, especially since her paw wasn't that wet.
"What are you doing out here?"

"Moping," he said, always brutally honest with Hamamu even if it was at his own expense. He was happy to see her, though. He always felt like he connected will with his cousin, if only because their mothers had gone through similar situations and they were together a lot of the time because of that.
"Don't you always have the boys all over you?" he said, raising up a paw in protest to her trying to spread the water and mud onto him. At least she was failing at that, he figured that having his heart pump so much without hunting to be enough torment. "I bet you don't know how to handle them, hmmm?" He leered at her, just to see what her type of response would be. It wasn't something that they normally talked about, but they were old enough that it seemed like a fair topic of conversation.

She knew he wasn't joking but she couldn't help but give him a very dramatic frown- until he continued on what seemed a very different topic. She made a face as he speculated on her handling of boys, too stunned to reply immediately.
"Of course, of course," she said airily, "Always surrounded- haven't you noticed all my admirers?"
Hamamu looked about, gesturing at random to the other lions at the waterhole.
"I mostly just ignore them, so I suppose you're right."
And then she looked back at Mkate, sticking her tongue out at him.

Mkate laughed. "I knew it. I guess the luck of the draw went to the females in the family." He gave Hamamu a nudge with his shoulder, then stepped back to leave the edge of the water hole. Best to let others that needed a drink have easy access, he could easily talk to his cousin just a bit off from it.
"I guess I should be better at protecting you from all these wanna-be suitors, hm? No brother to help, so you can count on me!" He puffed his chest up, since...well, even with the talking down he had gotten after the war he did carry battle experience. He figured that meant he was a bit more tougher than some of the others that had been more wise and stayed back to literally protect their families rather than figuratively.

Hamamu wrinkled her nose, thinking about what Mkate suggested about the ladies in the family having better luck- making a show of nearly toppling over when he nudged her back into reality. She followed him away from the edge of the water hole.
"I dunno, Mkate," she said, snickering at the way he puffed up, "There's just one of you and sooo many of them."

"So? I'm more....more manliness than all of them! Don't you forget that I got wounded in that war and I'm still here, stronger than ever!" Though....they probably both knew that his wounds hadn't been that bad, and while he did have a small scar to prove his 'worth', it really wasn't anything special. It mainly just bled a lot, and that was it.
Like hell Mkate wasn't going to try and use it to his advantage, though!
"Introduce me sometime, hm? And uh...yeah, I wouldn't mind if any of your ladyfriends were around too." Mkate sucked at picking up girls, mainly because...he was still such a mama's boy.

Finally, Hamamu was able to stop laughing- but she didn't stop smiling at him. She knew the true extent of his injuries in the war but she also knew how bad it could have been and it meant a lot to him.
"Oh, you wouldn't mind that, would you?"
And she was giggling again- but she had half a mind to try to set him up, whether or not he meant that.

"Of course I wouldn't mind! If I'm the one offering..." He grinned, a bit...excited about it, but he didn't want to put too much pressure on Hamamu. If he did....she could really get back at him for it. And knowing how much she liked to play games, he wasn't going to risk it when it came to possible females.
"No rush, though, y'know? Do call on me when you need an escort anywhere, though!"

Hmm.. hmmm... It almost sounded like a joke but then it sounded all too serious, even hopeful. She would need to go bother Grandma about this. And perhaps even convince Haramia and the other hares to help spy for her. It was dangerous to give Hamamu something to do.
"Alright then," she said, "I've totally got it covered."
She was beaming, looking almost too happy.

Well, no matter what Mkate thought about now, it was too late to go back. Besides....what was the worst that could happen? Was it really that hard to turn down a girl if he wasn't interested?
