BEAR ARM-WRESTLING

User Image

You hope that's just a costume. You really, really hope that's just a costume, because that's one freaking big bear. And you wonder why, oh why, you ever thought it meant 'Bare' arm-wrestling. Aaaaaugh. You've got to be kidding... but it looks like you'll just have to bear with it.

Rules of the Game:

1) Each character can enter the game once per night.

2) Entrants will generate a random number from 1 to 100 to determine how well they did. The Bear will generate a number from 51-100 in response to decide how well he did.

3) The one with the higher number wins.

4) Prizes include a variety of low-level items that can be chosen by the participants if they win, as well as special bonus prizes if you meet certain conditions.

Quote:
Prize List:

Going Bearserk: Raises the target's offense for three posts. 1 use per battle (non-action).
Bear With It: Raises the target's defense for three posts. 1 use per battle (non-action).
Unbearable Energy: Raises the target's speed/evasion for three posts. 1 use per battle (non-action).

Special Bonus Prize: Those who beat the Bear both nights will receive a crafted Accessory item!
EXTRA Special Bonus Prize: Generating exactly 7 or 77, or tying with the Bear, will give you a crafted Weapon item!

Soji Seta, Investigation Team Leader
"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"

Last year had been a trying time for the Investigation Team; so much promise had laid before them and so little had come of it. They had been shackled down by their own indecision and as a result, they had squandered the summer that they had, instead finding themselves too busy fighting amongst themselves and thinking about the situation rather than taking control of the task at hand. Eventually, they had been undone, duped, and only fate had allowed them to recover at all from the blunder that had undone them. His ashen eyes remembered those days as he walked beneath the streamers hanging the length of the shrine over, as he perused the booths on his own in anticipation of the crowd that would no doubt be soon to come. He could not wait for his opportunity to redeem himself, and that was the thing which kept creeping onto his mind and taking precedence when he knew that he should have been paying attention to the Festival's actual attractions and having fun. Still, it was a hard thing to forget something so unjust, something so painfully etched into the furthest reaches of his memory. Even recalling it sent a sickly feeling along his skin that left uncomfortable goosebumps raised to the surface. But this time things were going to be different. He wouldn't hesitate, he wouldn't be fooled by trickery, and he wouldn't be undercut by some sly man with a deceptively dopey voice and an underside as dark as the deepest pits of the abyss. This time, he would put things in their proper order.

...After all, there was only one person who could have come up with such a ridiculous pun for the title of their booth, and if that person was waiting on the other side of this mysterious shrouded tent than he had no choice but to roll up the sleeve of his casual blue yukata, press his elbow against the table, and prove once and for all who the better man between them was.

...Tonight, Teddie was going to pay for pulling the most un-bro move in the history of bros at last year's Festival and stealing away the girls on a perfect night for love to bloom! For that treachery...he would bury the bear's hand through the table and proudly glare down his victory at the blond buffoon who thought to put his arrogance on display by challenging the whole of the Festival to an arm-wrestling contest. ...What? Did you think he was remembering something different?

"Oh, shi-" and all of those carefully made plans were thrown by the wayside when he stepped inside of the booth and the bear which greeted his eyes was not the silly blue-furred companion that had joined them on so many journeys throughout the past year and a half, but rather, a large, scary-looking bear with brown fur and...well, arms that looked primed to smash his relatively human arms through the table without a second thought. ...Did that mean he was going to back down from the challenge? Hell no, because a man didn't back down once money was on the line, and he had already paid the operator of the booth for his opportunity to wrestle the bear. And even if this was already going down on his short list of 'worst ideas ever', he was going to make the most of the opportunity as he could. His elbow set down, his ashen eyes met the ferocious gaze of his predatory foe, and his lips set into a resigned smirk. "Let's dance, Smokey."

What a better way to start such a lovely festival?

The Bear

Almost faster than one could believe, the bear reached out. Unlike in other games of this type, it seemed that this bear had no actual hands to grab... simply an incredible amount of muscle. Buuuuuut... on the other hand, it was early in the festival, and it seemed the bear didn't quite want to go all-out yet as its arm slowly bent away from the goal... and finally dropped.

User ImageEido Aeroda

Eido was impressed as he saw the silver haired one walked in, being the first one to the booth. He started in the small tent, pausing for the slightest of moments as he saw the...Bear....BEAR.
BEARRRRRR.
Slapping himself slightly, the boy focused.
"No..No..No...Gotta stay calm." he called, moving over and waiting for the silver haired one to finish (Holy s**t he won!) before he would take his seat, and engage the bear. He would give it everything he had!!!! And he slid the red Yukata over above his hand, ready for Action!
...
But it likely wouldn't be enough. He just hoped he'd be concious after the event to know how badly he was beaten.

The Bear

This new arrival was quite a strong one, applying an unusually high amount of force. The Bear's arm slowly moved down, away from its target zone... until, suddenly, the massive animal's eyes glinted dangerously. "Beaaaaaaaaar!" it bellowed, slamming Eido's arm into the highly-reinforced table with one sudden motion. It was the Bear's first victory of the night! And maybe it had just been sore about losing the first round to the silver-haired kid...?

User Image"I'll give it a go next." a cold voice called out, as Kanade moved along, either not phased, or not afraid of the Bear. She'd come to the event a bit earlier than the others, trying to avoid certain someones, and noticed the small tent. She stepped inside after briefly noting what kind of event was going on, and as she did, her eyes had opened abit wider, at surprise. She'd watched the silver haired boy stand up, apparently victorius....Then the the poor red haired one had been floored in one go. If she knew him, she might try to comfort him, but as of now, she could only think things like this happened, and it would likely happen to her too. She was curious if she could match the bear's strenght but she couldn't help but try.

Couldn't be a real bear, now could it? Either way, she moved down, setting her elbow on the table to engage her foe. She'd give it her best, and if it wasn't enough? That would be acceptable. It's not like there was a crowd watching her for this...

The Bear

Was it normal for such a slender, beautiful girl to put out such strength? Or was the Bear feeling merciful? It was hard to tell, but bit by bit, the Bear's arm moved until Kanade had managed to press it down completely. The Bear grunted in satisfaction, then reached up with its free hand and gently pet her head before indicating the booth of prizes. Whether a human in costume, some sort of machine, or maybe even a demon, the bear didn't seem like it talked much... but, clearly, it approved of the girl.

Yue Adomachi
"Unfortunate Junior Brother, Hermit's Philosopher, and Scrappy Protector"

Coming around from the other booth, Yue looked on at the event in question. So...there was really a bear thing here. Or..a guy dressed as a bear? Yue really had no idea at this point.

"I'll give it a shot, Bear." Yue said as he set the reptile cage down and walked over to where the bear was, having just been defeated by Kanade. Seemed like fun, and he wanted to try his luck here. He seated himself across from the bear and accepted his challenge, just bracing himself to either win with some pride, or lose painfully.

The Bear

"Bear!" With an angry glint in its eyes, the Bear slammed Yue's arm down. Behind it, rising like the aura of an oni, was a sense of grumpiness... of unhappiness... of irritation at people who didn't put enough effort into this so that they could have a chance at winning. Or, y'know, something like that. But even at its softest and most cuddly, that wasn't enough strength to beat the Tanabata festival's Bear.

Edit: @#$&#xit;, forgot the roll... but it was under 51 for Yue, so he loses no matter what the Bear gets.

"A....Bear? No freaking way." Jo(shu)'s voice called, as he looked into the tent, noticing as the thing seemed to tower over them, and as the hairs on the back of his head let him know....Yes...It was...a freaking...Bear..
"Pass." the repeat Senior called, standing back. "I'm not putting my arm anywhere near that thing."
".....I have to agree. I don't want you anywhere ne-..." Aussa started, before flushing a bit.
'You don't want me..." Jo(shu) replied, motioning for her to continue.
"I don't want you anywhere near that thing when i floor it! she called out hastily, moving over and adjusting her Yukata to slide up on her arm as she held it up, aiming to grip at the bear. Her other hand had on the cuff, so she wouldn't appear anymore than human, but she pushed with all her might while trying to keep her eyes forward. Didn't want to look back, didn't want to look back, didn't want to look back...

WYNN herself kept looking around, paying no mind to the giant bear as she wondered.
"Onii-Shu...can we...go to a certain place after this?" she pleaded, grabbing his arm lightly.

Jo(shu) paused, but nodded slightly at this, finding it weird how she...felt different.
"Sure thing." he called, cheering silently for Aussa to take care of the Bear. Wynn would really like to have at it, but he figured Aussa was the only one that should be out right now....For the sake of his sanity, and for the sake of not having to claim he had twin younger sisters. Plus, he was kind of curious where exactly she wanted to go.

User ImageKanade sighed, relieved as the bear yielded to her, and she moved slightly to get a prize. Not that she particularly cared much for it, and as she'd won, she moved right along, to get out of there quickly.

It was becoming popular, and she figured she'd have to go somewhere else for some peace and quiet.

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"

Izanami, Hetero the Despondent One...why not a comically (or would it be creepily?) muscled bear in an arm wrestling contest? If you've beaten one final boss you've beaten them all...that might not be entirely true, but that was the way that the senior decided to rationalize it in his head when inexplicably, his arm's strength was bolstered seemingly by the will of the gods (and with so many of them inside of his head, perhaps it had been) to press the bear booth-worker's arm to the table and claim the very first victory of the night in this unusual booth. Ashen eyes couldn't help but crinkle in the smallest sense of disbelief, but he had seen infinitely stranger things happen, often by his own doing, that he couldn't really discount this as any more implausible than those. So there was really only one thing left to do when the victory had been claimed, the arm-wrestling match was over, and the evening of magic and fun was only just beginning. His long legs unfurled and he stood from the table, offering a solemn nod to the unusual bear of unknown origin as a sign of respect between one man and another (bear, man, whatever) who had just completed a great battle together. He could feel his arm's strain still, faintly, and he was sure his fingers would be tingling from that grip for another half an hour or more. Nonetheless, he made his little note, turned his back, and with fingers finding their way to his hip pocket he coolly strutted away from the booth without so much as glancing at the prize rack that hung on the wall behind his foe.

That's right, he didn't need the prize. For a man to say that he had locked arms with a monster of such comically grotesque and intimidating proportions and emerged victorious, the pride of the victory was more than enough. He could walk with his head held high and tell the story for decades to come of how he inaugurated this Festival with a display of unparalleled manliness. And sure, others might defeat the bear thereafter, but only after he had broken and demoralized it. ...This all, of course, was likely not true. However, wasn't it said that the history after the war was always written by the victor? His lips curled as he exited the booth and glanced down the way on either side of the Shrine, debating whether or not to head on to the next booth...and which of the many booths that should be. He wasn't particularly hungry after his late-morning binge down at the Chinese shop, but the sweet shop was definitely calling out to him eventually. He was interested in a few other events as well, though there was one that out of pure nostalgia he was tempted to linger nearby for a while...if for no other reason than to catch the news on who would be signing their names on the line and who wouldn't.

Miss Orihime Tanabata Pageant...it was like Miss Yasogami only with a wider range of competitors, and with an infinitely more formal presentation. What were the odds of seeing Yukiko and the others back up on stage again? 5-to-1? 10-to-1? And yet, even though he knew they weren't the type to go seeking such titles, he couldn't help but think it would be a shame if they didn't enter. With so many incredible looking people in the Festival grounds today, his confidence remained strong that the most alluring of all the beauties in attendance were the ones he held dear inside of his heart. ...Plus, Yukiko and the others in yukata? He was no Yosuke...but you could still sign him right in for that one.

The Bear

The Bear raised its arms, shrugged, and sighed as a little girl sat down across from him. It had already let one little girl beat it today, and did they really think it was going to be so easy to do it again? With that, the bear reached out, allowed its fuzzy paw to be grasped, and slammed Aussa's hand into the table. "Bear."

"Kuro" Adamochi
The Borderline Artist In Denial

Oh god, why was she here? She wasn't sure what to think of that...bear thing...that was taking challengers. And Kuro looked awfully scrawny. Not to say she was. But it really depended on her mood. Maybe....she could try? She sweatdropped. This is a bad idea... She thought to herself before she approached the bear after someone had failed. She took a breath, then frowned and nodded to the bear. She wanted the challenge. Oh, how else could this end but bad?

The Bear

The weight was like a feather in comparison to the Bear's overwhelming muscles, and though it seemed incapable of other facial expressions, the Bear looked almost... sad... at the level of force Kuro was able to bring to 'bear' against it. The Bear sighed slightly, then slowly and carefully pushed her arm onto the table before reaching up and patting her head. "Bear." the beast said, indicating the sign next to its stall that informed her she could try again tomorrow.
