I do need help, so I thought this was an appropriate place.

One of the conventions I go to, no one does skits. There were probably two that's it. So I've decided to put on a skit. Not your normal funny comical skit, but a rather sad and intense one.

My main cosplay this year is Summoner Yuna from FFX. I really want to perform the sending and I thought I'd be great for the part because of my background in dance and colorguard/winterguard. I saw a version of the sending performed by a girl and I loved how she did it.

I want to use some of the same elements such as the fabric for water and the streamers as pyreflies, but I don't want to be targeted as a "copier" or that I stole it.

How should I go about this?

the routine is copied from the scene in the game so its really hard to do something different. so, improve it and then say you were inspired from it. always give credit

if i were you, i would take out the box and find helper who can wear masks or at least hide hide colour. cause the red head girl kept distracting me. and I'll cut a hole in the cloth to perform there so that the water really looks like it is around me. since you are in the hole of the cloth, the water fabric can look like it is behind you.

the paper streamers actually looked pretty good, but maybe you can consider shiny silver ones that are thinner, but test it out first, not sure how it looks on stage light. also the spirits actually fly around here, so if you can find a transparent hoop that your stage hands can lift around you and turn at the same time, you could have the effect of spirits around you if you tied them to the hoop.

these are just some suggestions that came to mind

Well you never really see Yuna's whole dance on the original amv. You see bits and pieces of it and then it'll pan to people crying or the spirits flying. So I was going perhaps throw in a toss or something ballet-like?

I was thinking about even maybe having people around mourning or something.

The only thing I worry about with the mourning ppl is if the stage can fit everything.

As long as it is seamless, anything can be thrown in to the routine

What I think would look great is to instead of having stage ninja waving things around, make the moving things be THE stage ninjas themselves. In other words: you can put people in water/magic/streaming costumes, and you could actually have them dancing and writhing as though they are the spirits you are sending. ^_^

They could start lying on the floor by Yuna's feet, then do interperative dancing and be 'sent' away. Strongly recommend blue costumes with sparkly or colorful accents and streamers
