Moon Hunter PRINCESS ISLAND General Information Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.
There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.
These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.
If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.
If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves. If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.
Mechanics Your princess has 20 hp First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.
Brick: 4 d12 Wood: 8 d6 Hay bales: 12 d4
The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.) Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess. Example: My defenses are 5/6/8/10 The attackers are 3/7/3/8
The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2 Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP. Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP. Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3
Bonus Mechanics Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.
Trainees: 0 hp bonus Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path Hunters: +1 hp to each path Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

It was a few days after he recovered from that attempt at the Sun Course. He'd been left battered and bruised and while the bandages had helped immensely with his wounds and the scratches other bleeding injuries he'd sustained from getting trampled, the bruises were still recovering. Underneath his sleeves, Before was mostly black and blue but he wasn't going to let a little thing as multiple bruised ribs stop him. No siree, Bob!
Before was on a mission to be the BESTEST BEST MISTY EVAR. So help him God, he will keep at it until he dies. Or gets forcibly transferred elsewhere. Whichever happens first. Chances are, it's the former at the rate he's pushing himself.
With his Princess Caelius Golem (Before spent several long minutes just staring aghast at the sight) all ready to be massacred or protected (really, he wasn't picky), Before began to build a wall. Originally he intended to use the brick to build Princess Caelius' barrier but the Mmisty didn't have the strength to lift the material, let alone build anything with them. So he resorted to wood, which was the next sturdiest material. When everything looked to be in order, Before got to his designated observation point and gave the signal to release the hounds shadowlings.Status Wave: FirstPath 1 HP: 5 Path 2 HP: 5 Path 3 HP: 7 Path 4 HP: 6 Princess HP: 20/20

Before couldn't watch! Oh wait, this was Princess Caelius the shadowlings were going to rip to shreds. Suddenly, YES HE CAN 8333333 He watched with bated breath as the first wave of shadowlings charged at the walls, half-hoping they would just tear through them and rend Princess Caelius limb from limb in his stead. But of all the time to have done an excellent job, it had to be this time 8< Teal eyes stared mournfully as the shadowlings dissipated upon contact with the barriers he'd built.
Princess Caelius was simply scowling at the world, completely unfazed and unscathed and thoroughly unimpressed.Status Wave: First; AttackersPath 1 HP: 5 - 2 = 3 Path 2 HP: 5 - 4 = 1 Path 3 HP: 7 - 4 = 3 Path 4 HP: 6 - 1 = 5 Princess HP: 20/20

And back to building Before went, still going with the wood because it meant fewer trips and fewer trips meant he'd get to finish patching and building faster. Because he hadn't quite fully recovered from the Sun Course. Plus, Princess Caelius heaping insults and remarks of derision at him wasn't helping his mood. It almost made him want to bash the golem in himself >8C
But no, control yourself Before. Remember why you're doing this. Eyes on the prize, eyes on the prize. Besides, the Misty wins no matter what the outcome! Before only realized the second path's defenses weren't up to snuff when he got up to the observation point. Damn. He should feel bad about that. Except he doesn't 83 Actually he's kind of focused on that path now. And just as he thought, the defenses he built for the second path crumbled.
What?! Just as the last of the shadowlings got to it? OH COME O-H WAIT!!! 8DDDDDDDDd Path 3 totes proved to be overwhelming that some managed to get to Princess Caelius and smack him around a bit! Time for the third wave! Before got back to Princess Caelius, mostly to inspect the damage the shadowlings had done. He didn't linger long in the golem's presence. All that sour frowning and caustic comments was making the Misty's stomach turn. Before had enough negativity in his system as it was and this wasn't helping matters. By this time, Before's injuries were acting up and bothering him.
Making him rethink using wood. He figured hay was lighter and easier to carry and if he packed enough together, they were pretty darn strong. That was why people had thatched roofs on some houses after all.Status Wave: ThirdPath 1 HP: 7 + 8 = 15 Path 2 HP: 8 Path 3 HP: 9 Path 4 HP: 5 + 7 = 12 Princess HP: 18/20

When Before had done all he could with the hay, he quickly headed back to his designated watcher's point to, well, watch how his defenses held up against the third wave of shadowlings. He really hoped Princess Caelius survived this. If only to assure himself Before wasn't a complete and utter failure. Or at least that he didn't let his pettiness get in the way of getting his job done.
He watched anxiously as the third wave of shadowlings traversed down their respective paths and was halted with each barrier! Holy crap, maybe he should keep using hay forever 8DDDDDDDD ahahaha, no. The Misty began to gather armfuls of wood to patch up the walls, whistling as he worked. It was mostly to drown out the sneers and jibes and diatribe from Princess Caelius who was still very much not impressed that he was still alive. It got to the point Before was just hurrying along to get the job done and maybe there was the tiniest hint of self-sabotage.

Before was impressed. Like. Really impressed. It seemed like he did well in building up the first path. Maybe he ought to have spread out the rest of the materials more to the third and fourth but hopefully he'll have better management skills for the fifth wave. And hey, he'll even use hay! XDDDD

"And I say Haaaaay, yaaaay, yaaaaahaaay. Haaaay, yaaaay, yay. I said Hay! What's going on~" How Before knew about the Four Non-Blond's song is anyone's guess. He wasn't particularly off-key, but Before wasn't going to be winning any singing contests, nor was he going to be stopping any wars, nor was he going to be soothing the savage beasts. On the plus side, thought, it was a strange enough spectacle that it shut Princess Caelius up. *w*Status Wave: FivePath 1 HP: 11 + 6 = 17 Path 2 HP: 15 + 5 = 20 Path 3 HP: 2 + 6 = 8 Path 4 HP: 1 + 9 = 10 Princess HP: 18/20

And here it comes. It all boils down to this... Before felt confident that the golem would survive. He just did. And with good reason. But it was best to simply give the signal to release the hounds shadowlings and let nature take its course. And wouldn't you know it, only one shadowling managed to breach through his defenses and deliver a swift kick to Princess Caelius' rump.
"COWABUNGAAAAAAAAAA!!!" Before cheered, grinning from ear to ear at the fact he'd passed. Let him have his victory >.>Status Wave: Five ; AttackersPath 1 HP: 17 - 10 = 7 Path 2 HP: 20 - 5 = 15 Path 3 HP: 8 - 9 = -1 Path 4 HP: 10 - 9 = 1 Princess HP: 17/20
