Walpurgis had run out of money after paying for repairs to the battle facility Gangrel had last thrashed, and so it was pretty obvious more pokemon were out of the question for a while. And so he and Gangrel were out in the wilds, looking for pokemon to fight for experience. So far, no good.

Sparing a glance at the rattata, he noticed him running around a wider area now, looking for an opponent. He had recently gotten his tail kicked by a furret, and although it had come close, it was the first loss he had suffered in quite a while. He probably wanted to prove he was still top rodent.

Gangrel's ears perked up, and he stood still as a corpse. Someone was coming.

At the sight of the Torchic, Gangrel lunged forward, fangs bared, and glowing red. Before anything could happen, however, he disappeared, recalled to his pokeball. Shaking his head, Walpurgis regarded the new trainer and pokemon.

"Hey, friend. I'm sorry about my rattata, he's been itching for a fight for a while now. I don't suppose you and your torchic would be willing to oblige...?" Releasing Gangrel once again, he held him in place until he calmed down. "I know it seems incredibly random, but I think he'll learn to use Explosion if I make him wait any longer, you know?" Gangrel's eyes flashed to accentuate the point. Walpurgis hoped that the other person could understand him. He dressed strangely, and seemed different that most he had met. But he had met a lot of people, from all kinds of places, since arriving in Zatao, and he hoped that he could get along with this person as well.

Looking at the torchic, Walpurgis realized it was waiting until he was away from Gangrel to begin. Letting go and jumping back a few steps, he grinned to himself. Gangrel would have just charged straight forward, relying on his skill to bypass the human entirely. It said multitudes about the torchic in that single action alone.

Gangrel chattered angrily at Walpurgis, red eyes flashing. [Don't hold me down again, or I'll bite your stupid hand! Stupid!] Turning to the torchic, he calmed down. It had only been a day since he had last battled, but that was simply too long. He wanted to just charge in, to start tearing into his opponent. But he knew Walpurgis would get upset, so he stood his ground, daring the torchic to make the first move.

Gangrel's eyes widened as the jet of flame show toward him. Jumping to the side, he made did a barrel roll to dodge.

Walpurgis felt the heat against his upper cheek, and understood the torchic would not be messing around. "Gangrel! Taunt it, quickly!"

Looking towards the torchic with a pitying expression, Gangrel decided to mock the accuracy of his opponent. [Hey, hey, come on, now! With aim like that, surely you should be going for something a little less mobile. Like, oh, I don't know, A mountain?] Shaking his head, he shrugged exaggeratedly.

Gangrel rolled to lessen the damage from the kick, but the damage was apparent. "Gangrel, defense curl, now!" Gangrel finished the roll by tightly curling up, waiting for the opportune moment to strike.

The rock bored into Gangrel's side, but he remained curled up. Walpurgis called for another Defense Curl, and Gangrel tightened up further.

Gangrel used the momentum from the kick to create some distance between himself and the torchic. In his ball-like state, he spun through the air before burrowing into the ground. After a moment, he burst up from under Kwatoko.
