Balthazar had given her three good days to herself before growing impatient. {[ You are wasting any potential that I initially saw, Ms. Wilson, ]} he would grumble with venom behind the sweet tones of his voice, the Australian drawl unable to conceal his displeasure.
{[ You need to start training. You don't think the others are, sheila? You don't think they're trying so much harder than you? They are young and they are eager-- they are fresh blood. You are behind. ]}
The words stung, even though she didn't want to admit it. Clerise practically was a stranger to the weapon still, but seventy two hours of being treated to every possible thought she had really had a way of bringing people...together. And the more that he dismissed her potential, the more irate she grew.
So now? Here she was, on the Training Fields, valiantly attempting to use her newfound weapons. Balthazar was heavy, although it was an expected truth. He was made of solid metal, tempered again and again to be sharp along his edges, tempered to be strong enough to meet a sword in combat. and she was unused to the added weight during her moves.
{[ Your repeated failures to wield me do nothing but fuel my disappointment. ]}
"SHUT UP," she groused, turning neatly to swing the ring blade with both hands, the force of Clerise's motion making her coat rustle, the thud of metal to wood the only sound on the field besides her own breathing.
"This would be so much easier with another person and also if you would SHUT UP. REALLY." She was far from panting, but holy s**t maybe these boots were a terrible idea.

The training fields were, for the most part, wide enough for multiple people to use at a time. Except Before had become accustomed to sparring against the training dummies on his own (he'd lost to one, don't ask how, he and Vanna deny it ever happened). So when it became apparent the new-face Lifer was going to be a while, he'd sat down to wait things out. But then it occurred to Before that she might be ready to give up and then he could have the field to himself and be frustrated all by his lonesome, he braved to approach her. "U-uh, hiya? You, um, you gonna be here longer? he asked, bouncing on his heels as he looked up at the Lifer. Absently, he wondered why was everyone in Life (a certain killer trainee aside) taller than him? QQ)

Clerise froze midswing as a tiny little fellow approached her. Owlishly, she blinked down at him. "Christ, what are you, fourteen?" She let Balthazar hit the turf, leaning on him, giving the kid a once over. "Yeah, probably all day. I don't know what the ******** I'm doing with this ******** right here." {[ Clearly. ]}"Shut up, Captain," she said aloud in an overly cheerful voice, her red eyes cold and unamused, not caring or remembering that the new kid couldn't hear her companion. She kicked him with the steel toe of her boot, metal-clad fingers wrapping around him. With an abrupt move, Clerise jerked Balthazar up and out of the earth, charging at the smaller hunter-- Only to have her attack blocked very abruptly, knocking her off her unsteady feet, Balthazar getting embedded rather firmly into the ground next to her. Again. {[ You are, quite literally, rubbish in so many ways. GET UP. GET UP GET UP. ]}[[ hp// 40 damage done// 4-6 = 0 charges// 0 ]]

It was less Before's reflex and more the fact that he'd learned the instant he was on the training field, he was automatically a target. So when the tall Lifer (who was aging him down by like eight years) attacked, the bottle-cap pin had already enlarged into a wheel in his gloved hands and he'd planted his feet firmly on the ground. The metal ring collided with the broadside of his partner, sending vibrations along his arm but leaving him unscathed.
From behind his weapon, Before peered at the Lifer, his lips pinched into a line 8I "Dude what. Why would you. I don't even. Don't I at least get your name before you take a swing at me?" >C "And I am not a kid! I am just short!" He declared vehemently D< Seems like Cerise hit a nerve as his grip tightened on his weapon's handle. With barely a grunt, he swung Vanna at the tall Lifer.

Clerise's reflexes were fine tuned for the bigtop -- when to leap from trapeze bar to bar, when to dodge a charging horse that got spooked, how to calm a lion. Fighting one wheel with another ******** wheel did not fall into her area of expertise, not even a little. "Christ!" Clerise had tried to dodge, but the wheel smacked her point blank, knocking the taller hunter off her feet. "Whatever! Hi I'm Clerise, what the ******** is that thing made of, lead?" {[ Fabulous. You're being bested by a preteen. This is absolutely precious, sheila, really-- NOW GET YOUR s**t TOGETHER. ]}She hopped upwards, her mind not quite as focused as it should be. Time to fix it. "Do you have any ******** suggestions, a*****e!?" she hissed to herself, turning her head away to talk to Balthazar. {[ Start succeeding. I'm not meant to be used as a blunt instrument-- move with me. Come on; this isn't so difficult. ]}With a roll of red eyes, Clerise tried again, turning as she swung Balthazar, hoping to whatever stupid god there was that it would connect. "Okay, sorry fine, you totally look like a high schooler, though. Just saying." [[ hp// 32 damage done// 9 - 6 = 3 charges// 1/3 ]]

Before felt the blade dig into his FEAR shield as it cut at his arm and he let out a grunt. "Try college," he frowned up at- "Wait... did you just say your name was Clarice?" This time it was Before who owlishly blinked. Apparently, this fact seemed far more... fascinating and important to him than fighting back.

"What, really?" Clerise pulled back with a blink, spinning Balthazar along her wrist, his weight heavy on her arm, metal scraping against metal as he rotated on her gauntlet. "Oh my sweet ********, it's Cl erise with an e," she replied, lips pursed. "And yes I am also in life, just like the lady I'm a clone of, apparently." She hadn't interacted much with the woman, if at all, beyond one or two glances of her. With a quick crouch, she struck out at the other hunter, just grazing his legs with it, his formidable blades barely doing any damage. Unfortunately for her, it looked like her luck was running out. Before came at her with his stupid giant weapon, the thing clobbering her in the side of the head. {[ This is pitiful. The Misty had a free hand raised and his mouth open in what was the beginnings of pointing out the totally obvious when the next thing he knew, he was getting slashed off-balanced. That whole coming at Clerise with his weapon? Mostly him just trying to get his bearings and unintentionally swinging his arms all willy-nilly.
Yes, this was mostly why he liked training alone. People don't get to see his consistent ability to hit things when he doesn't mean for it ;A; "AUGH! SORRY!!!"

Holy ******** s**t. The shield around her crackled as she skidded against the turf, her head knocking against the ground.
"OHhh my goddd, what is it maadee oooofff, it's so heavy," she groaned, struggling to stand, eyes rolling in the back of her head as the redhead struggled for balance. She used Captain to stand, licking her lips.
She grumbled a little in frustration, swinging to hit him again, with little success. Little ******** could deflect like a boss.
{[ Absolute rubbish. ]}

Despite having his face on the ground, Before managed to pull Vanna up to shield the back of his head from Clerise's attack. Spitting out a mouthful of grass, Before got to his knees, "Uuuuh, p-please stop saying Vanna's fat. I-it upsets her..."
TEACH THAT FLESHIE A LESSON IN MANNERS!!!! his partner's voice roared in his head. She'd just about had enough of being called all euphemisms of being "fat" especially from someone wielding a weapon so similar to her.
Wincing at Vanna's voice, Before attempted to prove that Vanna wasn't really all that heavy. After all, he could lift her with one hand and even swing her with one hand too! "S-she's really not that heavy. And iunno what she's made of. Fanciness?" he offered with a tilt of his head and then proceeded to demonstrate what he meant. Except when he swung, the spikes on the wheel managed to connect with the Lifer. DDDDDDDDDD8!!!!!! Oops.

"Whatever! She's HEAVY not fat, oh my god weapons can be so. ********. Retarded." The DIFFERENCE between Captain and that ...THING was that Before's weapon was SOLID AND FILLED IN. Not that Balthazar was made of air, but christ. Clerise couldn't withhold the snicker as Before spat out some green, thoroughly exhilarated. This was almost as good as performing, it really was. She hopped from one foot the next, anxious, and simply couldn't move out of the way of spikes hitting her square in the jaw. She landed hard on her a**, stars behind eyelids. "Jesus," was all she said, wobbling as she tried to stand-- and almost failed at it. Almost. Clerise wasn't...she wasn't feeling so hot. Not even a little. {[ Don't be a useless bint, I'm charged. Do it, and aim wisely. ]}"I don't even know what that MEANS, Cap'n," the acrobat muttered, spinning the ring blade on her metal clad wrist, letting him build up speed before she let him slide off, the bladed metal spinning along the ground, like some sort of metal land shark cruising straight for Before, his movements emitting violet sparks. Sweet ********, she hoped he'd connect. [[ hp// 25-5=20 damage done// .5 * 16 = 8 charges// 3/3 (Swift Strikes - 7d4) - CONSUMED ]]

Before barely had enough time to get to his feet, let alone bring Vanna to the front to block the incoming charge attack. He could feel his FEAR shield being ripped into, grateful that his partner still had enough strength to ensure he didn't end up torn into ribbons. The impact of the blade sending him flat on his back.
In the span of time it took for the Misty to get knocked into the air and fall to the ground, his weapon looked... suspiciously bigger when the dull thud of his body indicated gravity had made him its b***h.
"Th-that's not a very nice thing to say about our partners," Before wheezed from the ground. "Or just mine, iun really give two ******** what issues you and your weapon have." He pretty much remained there. On his back. Looking up at the sky and still wishing he was training alone. There was no rush. No need to hurry along. Just him, Vanna, and the training dummies.
Except you aren't alone, silly Before.
Shhhhh. Let him pretend a little longer ;n;

Clerise rocked back, eyes still gleaming from the exhilaration of fighting. This, she thought, would never get old. The burn of muscles, the stretching of ligaments-- oh, it was amazing. Even if she was, you know. Kind of losing. She spun Balthazar on her arm, the left, as her right one was getting to be pretty tired. "Aw, come on, littlething, you've got more than that in you, I know you do!" her voice wasn't quite shrill, just excited. Animated. "They're hunks of metal and s**t, they're not people." {[ But that doesn't mean we aren't sentient, you insensitive c**t. ]}"Shut up Balthazar~" she crooned, striking out at before once more with the ringblade, a wide horizontal swipe as she closed in on Before's personal space. Not the best move, nor the most accurate, but still. It connected a little. [[ hp// 20 damage done// 9-6=3 charges// 0/3 (Swift Strikes - 7d4) - 1 of 2 CONSUMED ]]

Before still remained the ground, angling his head just so that the strike from Clerise nicked his ear rather than his face. "They're not made from metal. Not technically," he began, "They're made from FEAR. And they share their FEAR with you so that when this happens to you," he suddenly kicked out at the Lifer's legs and shoved his weapon towards her, pointy side up. "You don't really get impaled," he explained.
"And stop using my height to describe me!" DDDDD< "The name's Before!"
