Name: Haven Marie Sinclair
Nickname: “Smarty Pants” and “Know-It-All” by some of the kids at school.
Age: 11
Birthday: December 30th
Sign: Capricorn
Gemstone: Garnet
Blood Type: A+, like her grades.
Fav. Food: Breakfast foods, like pancakes and waffles and cinnamon buns and toaster strudels. She also doesn’t really mind those healthy foods all the other kids hate. Carrots and broccoli are alright with her!
Hated Food: Anything lumpy. Mashed potatoes have to be smooth and whipped, and she hates when school serves the jello with the fruit inside. She doesn’t mind fruit and jello separately, but she isn’t one to mix her foods together.
School: Knightside Elementary, 5th Grade.
Hobbies: Books – Haven's loved books pretty much since she first learned to read (of course, she was really little back then, so she can't be sure, but she's almost 99.9% positive that she loved books then and that she'll love books until she's a little old lady and can't see well enough to read them anymore). Picture books, chapter books, text books, anything—she likes to sit in her room, sprawled out on her bed, and flip through the pages reading or looking at pictures. She likes fairytales well enough, but she knows better than to think they're
real, and she tends to prefer stories that don’t revolve around princes and princess and evil witches. She likes stories like
Nancy Drew and
The Bobbsey Twins, older series that her mother introduced her to, and stories like
Harry Potter—stories with mystery and/or action and adventure that keep her on the edge of her seat.
Educational Television – While a majority of other kids her age are watching cartoons, Haven likes to watch things she can actually learn from. She loves the History Channel, the Travel Channel, the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. Especially anything science or history related—volcanoes, dinosaurs, weather phenomena, the Revolutionary War, the Oregon Trail—Haven is all over it. She likes to feel as if she's actually gaining knew information while she's watching TV. She's tried cartoons once or twice, and some of them are really pretty funny, but most of the times she just feels like her brain is dying from the lack of informative programming.
Sidewalk Games – Haven has a couple of hobbies outside of self-educating herself. She loves going outside with some of the neighborhood kids and participating in sidewalk games, especially hopscotch and jump rope, the latter of which she likes to think she's really good at. It's more fun with more people, of course, but she doesn't mind doing it alone if she has to. Sometimes the neighborhood kids get together and see who can jump rope the longest, or they get a really long rope and have two people hold it, and then everyone else jumps at the same time and they compete to see who’s the last one standing. Haven doesn’t really like losing, so she makes sure to practice from time to time. She’s pretty good at jumping Double Dutch-style and likes to show off.
Figure Skating – Haven started ice-skating when she was around five years old. It began as a fun weekend activity her dad introduced to her as something to do when her mom was away on business, but it eventually evolved into a deep interest. Her parents soon signed her up for lessons and youth programs. Since then, Haven been to a variety of skating camps and competed in local and state-wide youth competitions. She’s placed high in her age group a few times, but she’s never made top three, though she’s seen decent improvement as she’s practiced. She’s determined to be good enough by the age of 13 for the World Junior Figure Skating Championships, and one day go to the Olympics. Yes, she has big dreams.
Virtues: Clever – A rather bright girl, Haven is interested in learning and expanding her knowledge about the world around her. She's relatively smart for her age, and is good at puzzles and problem solving and is never afraid to give riddles a shot. Even if she doesn't solve them correctly, she typically learns something in the process and puts that’s knowledge to better use next time. She knows a lot of other kids who complain about school and homework, but Haven likes it. She does her best to complete her assignments in record time—and if she doesn’t, they’re at least done by the due date. She has a habit of going above and beyond what’s expected of someone her age, skipping ahead in her workbooks so that she knows what to expect for upcoming lessons at school, and helping other students who might be struggling to grasp a specific problem or concept.
Determined – Once Haven has her mind set on something, it’s very unlikely that she'll back down and give up—at least not without a fight! If she wants to finish a project by a certain time, she’ll work on it in every spare moment she has, even in the car. If she wants to learn a new move in figure skating, she’ll practice and practice and practice until she finally succeeds, even if that means she has to fall a few times in the process. She doesn’t let anyone tell her she can’t do anything, and she isn’t the sort of person to let a few failures get her down. Although a certain stubbornness might sometimes show through in her determination, it keeps her focused and on track with her school work, and pushes her to be a fierce competitor on the ice.
Enthusiastic – When Haven loves something, she really,
really loves it. Really. When she finds something interesting, chances are she'll be absorbed with it for quite a while, reading about it, watching shows about it, looking up things about it online. And then she'll tell you about it even if you don't think it's as interesting as she thinks it is. The teacher has a question in class? Haven's more than happy to answer it! Someone wants to learn how to skate? Haven would be delighted to teach them! She loves volunteering to write on the board in class, or sharing her interests with other people, or happily chatting about all the things she’s learned, often holding a bit of a one-sided conversation if they're just not interested. In everything she does, from school to figure-skating, Haven gives it one-hundred and ten percent!
Responsible – Haven is quite responsible for a girl her age. She likes to do what's expected of her, and she likes to do it well. She picks up her things when her parents tell her to—sometimes
before they tell her to, if she already knows her room's a mess—and she goes to bed on time, usually without putting up a fuss about it (unless she's in the middle of a really good chapter). The only time she's ever had homework turned in late was one time when she got sick and could barely get off the couch. She doesn’t like to do things that could potentially get her in trouble, not because she’s afraid, but because she just doesn’t want to deal with the consequences. It’s much easier just to behave and do what you’re told. If, for some reason, she does end up getting into trouble for something, she'll take responsibility for it and complete the required punishment with nothing more than a pout and a few grumbles about how she didn’t
mean to do it, it just happened. At school, she's great with group work, because she keeps everyone else on track and makes sure everyone's putting the same amount of effort into the assignment.
Flaws: Know-It-All – If there's one thing Haven hates most, it's being wrong, and so she does everything she can to make sure that she's
never wrong. Part of her obsession with education, aside from the fact that she just finds certain things very interesting, is because she likes to be right. About
everything. If someone else is doing something wrong or happens to give the wrong answer, Haven will be the first to out-show them. From math problems to jump rope to figure skating, Haven has acquired quite a big head. It isn’t uncommon to see her walking around with her nose in the air, or flipping her hair over her shoulder to make a point. When she's correcting someone, she likes to make sure that people listen whether they want to or not. Everyone needs a little extra education every once in a while, and she’s more than happy to give it.
Bossy – Haven likes to control things. Especially when she thinks she knows what she’s doing better than everyone else, she does what she can to come out on top and control the situation. She doesn’t like to just fade into the background about anything. She will shout over you and tell you what to do, and if you don't listen then she’ll try to take over and do it all by herself if she has to. If she knows she's right, she isn't going to let anyone else tell her otherwise. While she doesn't mind following directions from adults—because they
clearly have a better grasp on things—when it comes to kids her own age, she has a few problems not acting as if she's queen of the universe.
Inflexible – She may have great determination to do things her way and do them right, but once in that mindset, Haven turns rather stubborn to change. She doesn’t like change. At all. She likes to know what to expect. She likes to know what she’s getting herself into. Once she's decided what she wants to do and how she wants to go about doing it, there's very little other people can do to change her mind. Only when her way ends in obvious and absolute failure will she admit defeat and try something else. If she can't complete what she wanted to do, whether it’s because she's stumped or there is no solution, she gets frustrated. When she fails to execute a spin or a jump correctly when she's skating, she’ll refuse to move on to anything else until she gets it right. When she expects something, it had better happen or her day is completely ruined.
Fun-Sucker – There are rules in place for a reason, and Haven makes sure to follow them. She's very cautious when it comes to putting herself or others in danger, and will try her best to stop someone from doing something if she thinks it’s stupid or poses the risk of getting them into trouble. If a situation is too tough for her or her peers, she will stand back and try to keep everyone else at bay and insist that they wait for an adult. She definitely doesn't like to just charge right in without a plan she's sure will work, and she does her best to stop others from being dumb and doing stuff they just shouldn't do. Also, she will tattle on you without a second thought. While she doesn't have a particularly explosive temper, she can still find ways to let everyone around her know when she's displeased.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Haven’s eyes are large, round, and expressive, in a pretty shade of
teal. She used to wear glasses because she had trouble seeing the board at school, but she convinced her parents to let her get contact lenses (not only because of her skating, but because she was tired of other kids calling her “Four Eyes”).
Hair: Dark brown. Long. Perhaps to mid-back in length, cut in what she thinks are nice, mature layers. For the most part she keeps it straight, but will occasionally wear it slightly wavy or in gentle curls. Her bangs are cut shorter than the rest, and usually fall across her forehead and frame her face on the sides, brushed out of her eyes. She doesn’t wear very many accessories, though she has a thing for headbands that match her outfits.

Style ref #2.
Face: Round and youthful, either with a knowing, arrogant, self-satisfied expression, or prissy and dissatisfied. Pale-skinned. Sort of peaches and cream.
Clothes: She actually likes wearing her school uniform because it makes her look proper and smart, so she’ll stay in it all day if she doesn’t have anything else to do and it’s not dirty. When she’s
not in uniform, she still tends to wear skirts and nice blouses with a pair of socks or stockings, and dresses or longer shirts with leggings underneath. If she wears pants, they’re usually a pair of khakis or slacks instead of jeans. Jeans are typically restricted for outdoor play only. She especially likes clothes that she thinks are mature and sophisticated. Her preferred colors are blues and greens, and sometimes purples. She’ll wear solids or patterns; she doesn’t usually have a preference, but she has a thing for horizontal stripes and floral prints. Also, all of her skating dresses must have sequins somewhere. She will be
very disappointed if there aren’t any sequins.
