Izaya Orihara ventured into Camphoreon one fine day as he did every so often on his days off. His last visit to the city hadn't been the most pleasant since he'd been in crutches and had run into Shizuo while trying to buy a new blade. Today, though, things were serious. While he usually came to the city off-duty, today he had a specific goal in mind.

It involved a small internet cafe on the corner of one street. The man strode there quickly and with purpose, moving among the other pedestrian crowds so as to avoid being confronted and recognized by certain other city inhabitants that might have wanted a word with him. He didn't venture out of headquarters too often for a reason, after all.

However, today he was in luck. He managed to get to the place safely and without incident, paying for a small room in which to use the internet for a few hours. Izaya wasn't sure how long his research would take or if it would even yeild any results at all, but he thought it was worth a shot. Once he was in the room, he closed the door behind him, hung his parka up on a hook on the wall, and sat down in the chair in front of the computer screen, ready to get to work.

He rubbed his hands together to warm them up before logging in to a well-known forum chat site he'd asked Faleen about where engineers, inventors, and mechanics came together to talk, ask, and brag about their latest projects. It was a long shot, but their boss had said to try everything. Putting his digits to the keyboard, the informant logged in to his account with the handle name 'Chrome'.

He posted from the viewpoint of an innocent bystander who had happened to view a Yanmega-shaped aircraft flying low over Kodo the other day, asking if anyone else had seen it, about the model, the estimated statistics on it, where it was available for sale, what its price might have been estimated to be, and other similar questions. Izaya considered enclosing an image of the jet, but eventually decided against it. He hoped the description would be enough to draw in some witnesses, possible experts, and perhaps even the original owners of the jet itself. As 'Chrome', however, he of course couldn't disclose that he knew it was stolen property.

"Tooooooo obvious!"

1337 had been doing his fair share of diddling about on the internet. His own efforts with researching Team Galactic's current whereabouts had been relatively fruitless. He had tried pretty much any backdoor tactic he could manage, but it seemed as if Galactic had upped their game.

However, when a user called "Chrome" had asked about a very familiar aircraft, he couldn't help but feel that it was too easy. Someone was trying to bait someone else. However, who they were trying to catch with the bait was not clear.

Chucking a Pokeball out to his side, soon enough the computer hacker was accompanied by a shiny red plasma Pokemon. Even though he had that ever constant smile upon his face, he spoke in an even tone. "Task: Log in."

With a chittering "Tom tom tom tom tom," the Rotom proceeded to move towards a familiar device resembling a laptop. Phasing out for a moment, the Pokemon soon enough possessed the device, the device shifting to a red color. On the monitor, two eyes seemed to blink open. With its bolt-like appendages, it saluted to the visored man.

The man proceeded to type in the air using his own tech to send a message directly to the Pokemon on the laptop. It had the directions for what he wanted it to do to start.

For a brief moment, the face on the screen seemed to blink as it processed the request. The Pokemon could complete the task, but the speed in which it was processed had always been slow in a sense. The Pokemon was still training on how to manipulate the computer from the inside, and though it was familiar, it was not the master of data yet. Once the task was set up, the face seemed to vanish from the screen to show a home page.

1337 grinned a bit. "Let's have a bit of fun, shall we? Task: send a private message to username 'Chrome.' No title, message as follows in capslock: 'A slash S slash L question mark.' End task."

In a slow manner, the task was completed, each of the requested symbols typed in one character at a time per second. On the area for the message, the rotom entered what had been requested. "A/S/L?" For a moment, a pair of blue eyes popped up on the monitor, looking to 1337 for approval.

The hacker merely offered a thumbs up.

"Message Sent!"

Izaya blinked at the screen, drawing back to stare at the monitor in astonishment. He hadn't expected a reply that fast. Then again, he had been a little liberal with some of the information...perhaps he would be chastised for it from some of the higher ups from base. Oh well; couldn't take it back now. What went on the net was almost impossible to get off.

As he clicked open the message, however, the content wasn't quite what he expected. The man frowned for an instant before smiling to himself. "Heh." Putting his fingers to the keyboard, he typed a quick reply.

Username: Chrome
Reply: What do you need to know that for? I hope you're not just some basement pervert trying to hit on me. Do you know about this craft, or not?

Tapping the 'send' key, he leaned his elbows forward on the table before him and rested his cheeks against his knuckles and palms. It was likely a dead end, but it had been some time since Nakura had messed around on the internet under fake aliases. A bit of fun couldn't hurt.

After the message had been sent, the hacker began to pull up some fun little tidbits for later use.

As the Rotom seemed to wait, it's eyes seemed to look about, back and forth, almost like one of those cat-clocks with the eyes that went side to side as its tail swung beneath it. Its little bolt arms seemed to vibrate excitedly as it waited to see what its owner was scheming up. Before anything fruitful seemed to pop up, the strange laptop called out "ROTOM!"

"My... someone was fast to reply..." Not even to bother stopping with the current task on his own little system, the hacker spoke aloud.

"Task: Open up private message and display on monitor. End task."

With a predictable amount of lag, the monitor blipped out the face that had taken the screen and showed off the message back.

1337 spared a glance to read the message silently. "...Classic skepticism... such a horrid disease on the internet..." People really did seem to catch that condition a lot on the internet. However, he already knew that it was thanks to people like himself that made people that paranoid.

His hands started to type out a message to send back to Chrome, then forwarded it to the shiny Rotom. "Task: Copy the text forwarded to you and paste it into the message window. Send reply to message send by username 'Chrome.' End task."

For a moment, the pair of blue eyes blinked back onto the screen as it attempted to translate what had been given to it by its owner. Its eyes rolled in a dizzy manner, almost like it was a cartoon character. However, the eyes blinked out again and it proceeded to process the data as requested.

Soon enough the message was sent.

"...Eh?"

The grunt raised a brow in confusion at the message that returned and for a few seconds was stumped. He recognized the language as 1337 speak, but was not completely familiar with the symbols used to create certain letters.

After a few minutes of mental deciphering, however, he managed to piece the message together and rolled his eyes with a little chuckle. In the next few seconds, his fingers were back to flying across the keyboard with a reply. Time to brush up on his 1337 knowledge.

"7|-|3 |=4[7 7|-|47 ¥0µ $p34|< 1I|<3 7|-|I$ jµ$7 p|20\/3$ ¥0µ |\|33Ð 70 637 14IÐ"

It took some time, but all in all, the informant was pleased with his meager skills. It was enough to get the message across, at least. But sheesh, how many people still talk like that nowadays? Nakura wondered to himself. This must be some hard-core fanati-

Waaaait. There was only one person he knew who was geeky enough to use that language. Well, two, actually, but both were part of Team Rocket and only one would take the time to indulge themselves in something this pointless. It made sense, considering he expected only either Rockets or Galactics to recognize the ship, unless some internet troll was just messing with him.

Which would still be right up a certain Rocket agent's alley. But with millions of users on the internet 24/7, it couldn't possible have been that particular individual. Could it...?
PostPosted: Sat Apr 07, 2012 8:26 am

The agent continued his little digging about on the internet until once more his Pokemon called out to him. This time it took a bit more time for a reply, which had given him plenty of time to find some fun little videos. Once more, he repeated one of the commands from earlier. "Task: Open up private message and display on monitor. End task."

Obediently, the Plasma Pokemon did as told. However, once the message popped up, a pair of confused eyes looked it over uncertainly. "Rotom tom tom ro rotom?"

Did 1337 understand what the Pokemon had actually said? No, not so much. However, it was a common reaction people had when confronted with such symbols in such an order. The fact it was a question meant the Pokemon was probably asking for a direct translation.

In a humored tone, the Rocket gave the tool the information it desired. "'The fact that you speak like this just proves you need to get laid.' I will teach you how to write like that in the future... which symbols you need to substitute to make for good 1337-speech. However, you need to learn the basics first, Pokemon."

There was a big snicker that escaped the Pokemon and a wide grin that had managed to take up the full monitor. Apparently it was just as amused with the response that had been received.

Just like before, 1337 wrote out exactly what the Pokemon would need for the message and gave the exact same task as before. "Task: Copy the text forwarded to you and paste it into the message window. Send reply to message send by username 'Chrome.' End task."

The Rotom, now that it was able to understand that all of this was a joke of sorts, couldn't help but snicker as it did the task. What it sent out was something like the following...

"7|-|€ |=@[7 ¥0µ |23p£¡3Ð 7|-|¡§ //@¥ $|-|0//$ ¥0µ ||33Ð @ 900Ð |=µ[|< @$ //3££

£37'$ 937 ¥0µ|2 |/|0|/| |=0|2 7|-|3 _|0ß $|-|3 |<||0//§ //|-|0 ¡$ $3><¥"

(OOC: If you have problems translating, let me know in PM... Gaia keeps cutting some of the symbols out xd ;;; )

With a laugh, the informant shook his head as he read the reply. Not bothering with extra special symbols this time, he typed using standard spelling and grammar to respond.

"What are you, 13 years old? No one uses 'your mom' jokes anymore, let alone 1337 speak except the most childish people. Unless, of course, you happen to be that lame a geek."

"Task: Open up private message and display on monitor. End task."

The Rotom did as told, and let out a faint, yet disappointed "Tom" as it saw the text was merely standard characters. Of course, 1337 did not even seem phased by the series of insults spared in his direction. Insults couldn't get through his seemingly thick skin, nor alter that smile spread upon his face. He didn't even have to justify his reasoning for finding all of such entertaining. He truly had a much more superior level of entertainment, and what was considered uncool, he could easily find cool in spades.

Only the truly cool didn't care what others thought of the way they upheld themselves.

Where as the other half of the "conversation" seemed to give up on the art of 1337, the hacker had no intention of dropping the act. With his hand, he wrote out a small message, but also added something else for flavor. Or rather, 50 attached images of the same thing, all for his mere entertainment.

"Task: Copy the text forwarded to you and paste it into the message window. Send reply to message send by username 'Chrome.' End task."

The Rotom easily did as told, though the pace was still far slower than either the hacker or the Pokemon would have liked. Once it had finished the task at hand, its face appeared on the screen, attempting to imitate one of the 50 identical images added to the message.

Another message, another line of 1337. But there was something more. Attachments. A very large amount of data. It slowed down the informant's computer a great deal longer than he would have liked and this irritated him; particularly because he was paying for use of the internet by the minute.

Naturally he was doing other research on Galactics on the side, but the private messages from this anonymous sender took his time, energy, and attention. It was time to repay said sender for his profound messages. Besides...it would bring him one step closer to testing the abilities of the anon. If it was who he thought it was, then it would be a piece of cake.

He knew binary was more of Hayes' thing just as 1337 speak was 1337's, but Hayes wasn't here right now and someone needed to give 1337 (if it was, in fact, him) his just desserts.

"Task: Open up private message and display on monitor. End task."

The Rotom did as told, then blinked its blue eyes as a different type of message showed up this time. Behind his visor, the hacker couldn't help but also have a similar double take occur. He was easily able to read the message, but the fact it was a message in binary when he hadn't hinted at being able to read it at all was concerning.

The message itself also read in a rather familiar tone. "I love all humans," he uttered aloud in a low tone. If anything, everything had pieced itself together just now with that simple binary message sent to him. A fellow Rocket was phishing for the information on the Galactic vehicle and incident. It was another avenue to take, but the hacker still didn't think it was a very fruitful one if anything.

As he had figured out who the other person on the other side of the internet was, that individual had figured out who he was. It wasn't exactly like 1337 was truly trying to hide his identity, since that rarely was the point of his trolling. However, now that he had been "figured out," it was now a more interesting challenge to see if there was a way to guide the Grunt's suspicions away from himself.

"...let's see what ya gotta say to this message..."

With a grin, he began to type up a simple message to hopefully lead his momentary opponent off of his trail.

"Task: Copy the text forwarded to you and paste it into the message window. Send reply to message send by username 'Chrome.' End task."

"|20|=1, \/\/7|= ¡$ \/\/¡7|-| @11 7|-|3 23|20$ @|\|þ 0|\|3$?!"

After the message had been sent, 1337 started laughing loudly, completely unconcerned by who might have been around. This was fun, just too much fun. He needed everyone to know how amused he was!

Interestingly enough, Izaya had come to the same conclusions that 1337 had. He suspected the agent, certainly, but he couldn't yet pin the man down as the one and only suspect. While he himself had used the screen name 'Chrome' and 'trolling' the forums hadn't been his original intention this time around, he hadn't hesitated to reveal a few clues about his true identity.

This was because the grunt had wanted to see if the anon was, indeed, the hacker agent who he was certain would recognize the clues. At the same time, though, he didn't want to throw all his cards on the table just yet. Like 1337, he wanted to keep his correspondent guessing on the other side of the screen, hence his use of things like 1337 speak and binary code when it was not his usual practice. The question was, now that he had given away so many clues, could he still keep his hand concealed?

A new message popped up. Two could play at that game. Nothing new to the informant. He feigned stupidity all the time.

"$0|2|2¥, |\/|µ$7 |-|4\/3 ß33|\| 4|\| 3®®0® 1|\| |\/|¥ $¥$73|\/|
1 Ð0|\|'7 |{|\|0\/\/ \/\/|-|47 |\/|19|-|7 |-|4\/3 7®1993®3Ð 17
µ|\|£3$$ ¥0µ'\/3 ß33|\| $3|\|Ð1|\|9 |\/|3 $0|\/|3 $0®7 0ƒ \/1®µ$
"

Aaand send. He sighed. All this 1337 speak was making his head hurt. How did the guy keep up full on conversations like this? Did he even do as much? At first Izaya had guessed the attention-seeker was a social person, but now he was starting to seriously doubt his previous assumptions. Whoever this was, Rocket Agent or not, they probably didn't get out much. At least not with interactions like this.

After a moment's thought, he logged in on another account as a 'Kanra' and entered the forum. Since it had nothing to do with the private messages between 'Chrome' and the anonymous user, it appeared as if Kanra were the first one there to reply.

"A Yanmega-shamed jet? ガ━━Σ(゚Д゚|||)━━ン!! Sounds liek something out of a scifi film. Wut kind of nerd comes up with something liek that anyhow? Sure u didnt just dream it up & post bout it 4 lawls? ( ̄~ ̄;)ウーン・・・"

A pair of blue eyes blinked at the hacker as he laughed loudly, before it, in turn, showed off a big grin taking up the whole monitor. It let out a chittering sound that was probably its version of laughter. Laugh and the world laughs with you, right?

Once the new message had arrived, the shiny Rotom-computer paused in its laughter and prompted its owner with a simple "Tom tom!"

One thing that did suck about the visor he wore was the fact if he laughed too hard, he couldn't wipe away the water that might have built up at his eyes. However, he was used to it by now. His laughter calmed down to a mere cackling for a bit, then eventually he repeated the same command he had been giving pretty much this whole session.

"Task: Open up private message and display on monitor. End task."

When the text popped up, the Rotom, in its excitement at the type of text that showed up, managed to let out a couple of synthetic sounding slow claps. Despite how slow the clapping sounds were (which tended to make for a sarcastic sound), it was genuinely amused. Eagerly, its eyes looked to its owner for a translation.

1337 was the master of this obnoxious form of language, and rather easily translated aloud the message. "'Sorry, must have been an error in my system. I don't know what might have triggered it, unless you've been sending me some sort of virus.' You know I've been a good boy, right?" The insinuation that 1337 was guilty of sending a virus wasn't without base. He totally would do such as a gesture of his affection to the general populous. Fun little destructive presents from him. This Chrome was quite thoroughly lucky that the hacker wanted to keep toying around a bit.

The Pokemon's face showed up on the monitor again, for a moment nodding before its features seemed to twitch. The hacker, did not seem to notice the change.

That was, until the Pokemon cleared the monitor on its own, opened up a text document (slowly), then typed up its own little message.

CHECK FORM

The man leaned forward and read the message three times to himself before adding a comment. "...'Forum' has a 'U' between the 'R' and the 'M'..." A pause before he gave the Pokemon permission to show off such. "Task: Bring up the Forum and refresh page. End task."

It took about a minute for the whole process to be processed by the Pokemon, but soon enough a new post showed up.

"...that seems Phishy..." There was a hint of amusement that returned to his voice. Once more, his hand resumed typing, and soon enough another message was forwarded to his Pokemon.

"Task: Return to the first window. Copy the text forwarded to you and paste it into the message window. Send reply to message sent by username 'Chrome.' End task."

"|\/|@¥ß3 ¥0µ _|µ$7 |-|@\/€ @ [|2@p [0|\/|pµ73|2. \/\/|-|@7 ¥3@|2 \/\/@$ 17 |\/|@þ3? 7|-|3 319|-|713$?"
