Mission
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Survey Mission 2A
Article Headline: Five missing in plane crash in Alaska.
* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be an intermediate trainee)
*Article contents: Five people have been reported as missing, after a small plane crashed in the northern woods in Alaska, with no sign of their bodies to be found, including that of the pilot. Witnesses report that upon spotting the fallen plane, the seats were torn, as if something had dragged all the passengers out of the plane forcefully.
MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 2A. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Each player must roll at least three times with rped reactions. Once they have "collected enough information", they can return back and submit a report in this thread.
1- 20: You search around, but don't find any obvious evidence. Just the signs of an abandoned broken plane, and footsteps around the site
21 - 40: You catch the smell of something odd - a burning sort of smell - but you can't locate where its from. The plane perhaps?
41 - 60: You decide to investigate your only lead, the abandoned plane a little more. On the inside, you notice the seats are still damp, a strange smell lingering inside. Your weapon senses the barest traces of a lingering Fear...
61 - 80: You lift up the seats of the plane, the cargo, anything inside, and find traces of thick black hair. The seats also seem to be molding.
81- 100: As you search around the plane, other than the footsteps of other investigative teams, you notice that the snow is clustered in odd clumps around the plane, almost like waves with thick and thin ridges...

* 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Jordan was easy enough to invite, Ofelia less so. But, what better way to bring in a fresh newbie into what they did than to drag them out? She was nice enough and willing to learn, so why the hell not. Jordan was the same division as she was so maybe she could learn from him. Either way, Marcus was wanting to take a mission, the last one with Cass making him a bit antsy to get out and off the island, even if it was for a mission.

He'd texted them and they'd agreed, so now, all Marcus was doing was waiting by the portal, bandages packed away just in case. The hunter on guard duty gave him an eye roll, telling him not to take his 'mission' so seriously. Marcus couldn't tell if he was mocking himself or the mission.

Mission mission MISSION. Mission mission MISSION~

I swear to whatever deity you worship that if you continue that noise I will break your skull open myself if nothing on this mission doesn't do it for you.

Nope. Yer not gonna get ta me, not taday. Taday Ah gots a mission.

So I gathered.

Ofelia had been head over heels for the moon when she'd been approached by Marcus for a mission, the teen thinking she'd never get off the Island until the main event for her group was going to happen. She had no idea about that, even if she was simply assuming much of it, so when asked she about jumped the poor boy's bones in an effort to go along.

She arrived at the lighthouse shortly after harassing a nearby person for directions (she had no idea where anything was still, only the town thanks to Eva), and she raised an arm up in a loud and friendly wave towards her soon-to-be traveling companion. "Marcus! Howdy!"

One of the things that Jordan liked about these investigative missions was that they were a chance to get out and off the island, doing something useful. It was Alaska this time; he'd prepared for it, extra layers under the uniform coat as well as the various items he was carrying with him.

Marcus was waiting at the lighthouse portal when Jordan arrived; he nodded to the Moon trainee by way of greeting. There was someone else with him as well, a girl Jordan didn't recognize, wearing a Sun division coat. "Hi," he said, offering a smile and a handshake. "You must be one of the new group. I'm Jordan."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 12:08 am

Ofelia felt her cheeks light up when she realized there was someone else there besides Marcus, a person she hadn't met before. Judging by the massive sun on his coat he was from her division, probably a senior or something (which everyone was since she was brand spanking new) and the teen bit back her tongue to prevent herself from saying something overly stupid right out of the gate.

Good luck.

"Ah'm Ofelia, an' yeah, Ah'm new. S'nice ta meet ya Jordan, an' thanks 'gain fer bringin' me along Marcus. Jus' hope Ah'm somewhat useful ta ya guys." It sounded like Rue said something but Ofelia did her best to squish it out, looking over at the state of attire her partners were wearing. She was....going to be woefully under-dressed and suffer for it, seeing as she was weak against the cold. She probably should have thought of asking way more questions before just barreling feet first. Still she took the hand that had been extended and shook it, letting go as soon as they were done.

Marcus was just was well bundled, if a bit less. Under armor did wonders really. That and a really warm turtle neck and gloves. Ofelia's arrive got a wave and a smile. "Hey. Ready for your first mission? Sorry it's not something but like what the division leads have, but, it might help ease you into what we do. Even if right now we're all sort of-" Jordan arrived and Marcus gave a sad smile. "Let's just say right now we're in the dog house with the division leads."

Jordan was really a champ for putting up with him. "Well, if we're about ready let's head over. I brought bandages in case but with it being simple observation we should be fine from an attack, that doesn't mean the cold won't be getting to us." Speaking of which- Ofelia was going to learn the hard way, if just for a bit.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 10:30 am

"Nice to meet you." Jordan grinned. "Sorry to say you probably won't get a chance to hit anything on this run, but that'll come." What? She'd been placed in Sun division; it was probably a safe assumption that she and her weapon were inclined towards problem solving of the blunt object style.

Ofelia looked like she was going to be cold. Jordan hesitated, half inclined to tell her to go snag a coat. Then again, freezing her a** off would be an effective lesson about checking what gear she needed before a mission, and he and Marcus would be there to ensure she didn't actually get herself frozen. Ferros, does a Fear shield cover extreme environmental conditions? he asked.

He could feel the weapon considering the question. I don't think so, Ferros said finally. If you summon me I can keep you warmer, but unless her weapon is a firebreather it probably can't help.

Well, then, she'll be getting cold. "Ready to go," he said to Marcus. "Thanks for bringing me in for this one."

Cold....ugh. Ofelia was going to be kicking herself in the teeth for a while after this mission, seeing as anything below about seventy sent her into the shivers, but she did her best and mustered up a decent enough smile to try and convince them it was okay to go on. She was going to freeze her a** off and die from a cold if her luck had anything to do with it.

By all means, go ahead and do so. I look forward to it, hick. If it wasn't counterproductive to slap herself in the head each time Rue spoke then Ofelia would have done it and probably knocked herself out by now. The echo in her head wasn't really welcome and eventually she was going to have to ask how to tune it out.

"Actually, could y'all gimmie a second ta put mah patch on? Ah dun wanna lose mah eye if sommin' happens." She fished into her pocket and pulled out a brown eye patch, a sheepish smile on her face. "Ah dunno if Ah could 'fford 'nother one if Ah broke or lost it while off in who knows where." The patch went onto her face and she snapped the string to make sure it was secure. If they had questions, they'd ask but seeing as Candace said things like false limbs/missing limbs in general was sort of common place she had her doubts. "A'ight, Ah'm ready whenever y'all are ready ta go."

Dis was making half a** remarks about how nippy the cold could be and Marcus was doing his best to ignore it. Thankfully, Dis dropped it soon enough. Smiling Marcus was happy to have Jordan, he was sensible and reliable. That was a fast way to Marcus's friend list for sure, and the guy had kept his word. Not once had they mentioned that mission. Not once.
"Patch? Oh-" She had a missing eye huh? "That must be annoying for distance. Anyway, let's get a move on shall we?" Stepping through the portal, Marcus flinched at the rush of cold. Damn, maybe he should have worn another layer. The plane wasn't to far off, and from the report, there would be no bodies. Small things that were both good and bad he supposed. "Well, looks like this is our plane." Foot prints and steel littered the ground but nothing immediately was catching his eye. Kicking over a piece of metal, he shrugged. "Nobody else here as well, so, looks like we have the site to ourselves."

"Distances?" Ofelia tilted her head to the side at Marcus's words, unsure of how to think of what he was asking. "Oh, ya mean mah depth perception. It's fine actually, believe it or not. Ah lost mah eye when Ah was six so Ah've had plenty'a time ta adjust. Jus' don' ask me ta fire a pistol or sommin', an' ya've already seen how Ah can still punch wit' 'em." She grinned and tapped her eyepatch with her hand, following him into -

- oh holy s**t and all things made of s**t and mother of pearl why was it so cold. Ofelia's body instantly shivered as she instinctively pulled her arms around herself, the jacket she wore about her waist getting just as quickly yanked off and shoved on. God she was going to die now, even though everything was okay and from the looks of it she'd managed to travel safely. It would be her responsibility to help out even if she was freezing to death, and Ofelia started moving around when she hear Rue moan faintly.

....wut was that?

There's FEAR here, ooooh. It's so faint though it does nothing for me. Why can't it be stronger, I want to feel it all over. Yeah, Ofelia wasn't even going to begin to touch on how creepy that sounded but she decided at the very least she could relay the information.

"Hey guys, Rue says she can feel FEAR 'round here. She says it's faint, but there's been sommin' here that used it." Ofelia took the moment to talk to place her hands at the side of the mouth, cupping it as though she were doing it to speak louder. Really, she was blowing on her fingers to keep them warm.

"Huh. Glass eye?" Jordan made a mental note; while it was probable that Ofelia compensated for the lack of depth perception perfectly well, it was something that her teammates should know. It'd probably never come up, but it was good that she'd spoken up about it.

Stepping through the portal, he flinched at the slap of cold air and tugged his scarf up around his neck. His boots crunched in the snow as he made his way around the wreck, avoiding pieces of wreckage. There were footprints in clusters, places where other groups had investigated; police and rescue teams, probably. When Ofelia called out he looked up. Ferros, can you feel it?

Not where we are right now. ... I'm hungry, the weapon added.

You're always hungry. "Good to know," Jordan said aloud. "If she senses anything stronger and neither of us has said anything, let us know."

There were no footprints directly ahead of him. The snow seemed undisturbed, though the drifts were oddly patterned. No, wait. He stopped and studied the snow more closely, frowning. There was a distinct pattern to the ridges. There, there, and there, the same thing, repeated.

"I've got some kind of prints or something in the snow over here," he said. "Like waves, but it's too regular to be wind." He pulled his phone out and circled the area, taking several pictures from different angles.

Well, lesson learned Ofelia, read up and don't end up a sun trainee Popsicle. Cold as he was- Taking off his scarf he offered it to her. "I'd offer my coat but I'm a touch attached to it. Just give the scarf back when done." It was hardly anything, but hey, it was something wasn't it? "But, lingering fear and snow drifts?" He made it a question going to look at what Jordan was examining. Photos were apparently a common thing on these missions, lord knew they had bad memory. "See if you can't take a shot from any higher ground?" It was a long shot, but maybe there was a pattern they couldn't see from ground level.

Once more looking around he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. "Still have nothing on my end."

Ofelia's cheeks were red as she took the scarf offered to her, though not so much from the blush as it was from the cold. Her teeth were chattering but she wasn't downright numb just yet and she was determined to keep it that way by moving around. Moving things here and there she kept noticing a weird smell, her nose crinkling, and every now and then she'd listen to the sounds of Rue complaining.

"Ah've got nothin' - oh hey, wait a second." There was something in the corner that caught her eye and Ofelia kicked a chair over, kneeling down to see what it was. "Hey guys, Ah got some fur here. S'black, looks kinda like animal?"

She was going to reach out and touch it but a warning bell went off in her head. Better to let one of the others get it maybe. "Maybe whatever was up here was an animal with FEAR? That dun make any sense." She shifted through more things, her nose wrinkling at the smell. "Got a lotta mold over here too."

"An animal with Fear? Don't know. I've seen more than one freak with fur, though." Jordan moved to take a look into the interior of the plane where Ofelia was investigating, studying what she'd found. "Some of them can take different shapes, too."

"From above? I can give it a shot ... " He climbed cautiously onto the remains of the wing of the plane, then crawled up onto the roof, placing his feet carefully. No sense falling off and hurting himself. A few pictures of the odd patterns in the snow from different angles, and then he was sliding down again, careful not to catch clothes or flesh on twisted metal.

He peered in at Ofelia again. "You doing okay?"

Giving a thumbs up to Ofelia he went to where she found the hair. "Jordan, don't they vanish after a time? I don't have any container on me, but I could run back to see if there isn't one. If this is animal hair or freak fur, they could probably test it in the labs." Damn, something to bring on future missions perhaps. Looking back at Ofelia he frowned. "Mold....shouldn't be here in these conditions. At this time of the year and with snow all over it would be dead. With health and safety regulations I doubt the seats were molding when they crashed. Fire or ice would have killed it. But as far as weapon's go, Dis isn't saying anything, so-" Marcus's voice trailed off.

Going back out the snow clumps were hard to miss in this area. His own phone pulled out he took a few shots, also moving over to a tree, climbing up to get a better shot of the site.

"The clumps are all around the plane. Safe to say whatever was here did something. Thing is, was the lingering fear from the passengers or from a freak?"

Ofelia sneezed, then sneezed again, as she tried to stand back up from where she'd been squatting over. She wanted to blame it on the smell of the Mold and whatever else but the faint chattering of her teeth and the clearly reddish hue of her nose would suggest otherwise. The scarf Marcus had lent her would need to be washed if she kept sneezing into it like this, and she rose to her feet slowly.

"Ah'm fine, sorry. Ah dun think Ah see anythin' else in here though, aside from what we already know." Ofelia hadn't thought to bring along any supplies to help with a mission because she'd been entirely too excited to go on the mission and therefore everything else was secondary. Like warm clothes. "Is there anyhin' Ah should be tryin' ta gather other than photos?"
