Could the Angeni ever remember a time when his creatures were so persuasive? Miniature wings fluttered around the stallion's head in a nonsensical pattern. Stomping his hooves against the ground seemed to have no effect on the crazed creatures. Fantome had had enough. In a voice that he did not like to use he gave a hoarse command. "ENOUGH!"

That had the desired effect. The creatures ceased their absurd motions long enough for the stallion to realize that these were not his creatures that he was used to commanding. They had been his at one time - but he had given their control over to another individual. His daughter was a small filly at the time. She had come questing to find him. An elusive being kept alive by her mother's words. If they were here, then where was Stormfall? Stretching his powerful wings out to the side Fantome took to the air. His creatures flew in his wake as he kept an eye on the creatures his daughter controlled. He tried to wrap his mind around what could have happened to Stormfall. The Angeni of Fear flew with a hurried speed borne on the fear that maybe something tragic had befallen his daughter.

She'd rested considerably. Stormfall kept exercising her wings daily though. It would not do well for the mare to lose the ability to fly again. Overuse of her wings had caused a long enough delay in the search for Tsunami. This new delay was also taxing her patience. She was chomping at the bit as it was. What was taking her companions so long? Surely they could have located who she sent them to find. A narrow stretch of ground bore the signs of Stormfall's anxiety. She'd taking to pacing back and forth in the hope to calm her racing mind.

Why hadn't she heard from Tsunami? Was she a bad mother for letting her youngest and only daughter out of her sight? Stormfall lowered her gaze to stare blankly at the ground. The ground unfortunately had no answers to offer to the mare.

The sound of beating wings had Stormfall jerking her head up sharply. Her gaze narrowed on her companions as they darted towards her. She nuzzled the flying creatures with tenderness before a large shadow passed overhead. This was what she had wanted them to find. Here was a possible avenue to aid her. As the large white stallion extended his wings and landed Stormfall took a nervous step back. She choked on the words she wanted to speak before rushing forward. Her father had come - Fantome.

Fantome landed rather gracefully before feeling the impact of Stormfall's rush towards him. The breath left him in a rush and he stumbled backwards. He glanced to his daughter as he struggled to regain his second wind. Something was definitely wrong. Stormfall looked visibly upset. With the return of his ability to draw in air Fantome gently used his wings to gently stroke his daughter's neck. It took a few minutes of quiet reassurance but Stormfall essentially back up far enough so that he wasn't feeling as crowded as he had before.

Looking at his daughter Fantome realized that he'd once again neglected the instinct to be a good father. He'd been absent from his children's birth and now most of their childhood too. Regret pierced his heart and he gave a heavy sigh before shaking his head morosely. He let the silence claim the space between himself and Stormfall before quietly approaching his daughter. There was something on her mind and it must have been dire enough for her to seek him out. "My daughter what is wrong? There must be something bothering you."

Stormfall watched her father. She couldn't understand why she hadn't sought him out before this. She sighed softly as the remnants of a rare show of fatherly affection dissipated. Her gaze sought Fantome's eyes as she took in the creatures surrounding her father. They looked so much different now. When she'd found him before the creatures had caused her to be skittish. She had been a filly though and alone in her journey. Those days were far behind her. Stormfall cast her mind to the present as Fantome's words registered. She gave a tremulous smile to the stallion before her before nodding softly.

"So much has happened since I saw you last. I journeyed home and met my grandfather for the first time I remember and was accepted into the herd. I understand my place now."

Stormfall let that sink in before she continued. "The biggest change is that I've experienced motherhood for the first time. I met someone that I spent some time with. He gave me companionship for a while and I was gifted with three beautiful children: two sons and a daughter. You have grandchildren now."

The stallion felt his jaw literally drop at Stormfall's words. He was a grandparent? The ramifications of that sentence alone startled him. Perhaps it was the fact that he assumed that he'd be alone for all time that caused this news to be shocking. He'd hardly even spent a lot of time with Cataclysm before wandering off. Apparently he'd not even realized the condition he had left the mare in before leaving. Fantome sighed softly before nuzzling his daughter. He was proud at this new knowledge. His line wouldn't die out yet. The companions that belonged to his daughter fluttered around him before he smiled.

"I take great pleasure in hearing this news daughter. It must have been quite a change for you - the beginning of motherhood. I know the joy of becoming a parent and I know that it must have been quite the experience. Something tells me though that there is more to this story. Am I right?"

To take the initiative to come and find him again something must have taken root inside his daughter. There seemed to be silent pause as his words faded into the air. There seemed to be a heaviness residing in his daughter and he didn't like seeing it there.

Stormfall took in her father's reaction. He'd seemed to have lost the ability to function only briefly before indicating that he was pleased for her. That alone had Stormfall hoping that he'd maybe agree to help with her search. Tsunami was her only daughter and although she also had Kanic Ash and Wemitan to fret about it was her daughter that she wanted to locate. Her heart pinched in guilt as she realized that it might be her own fault that her daughter had gone missing.

She could only nod at Fantome's words confirming that there was something more to tell. The mare took a deep breath before collecting her thoughts. "There is more to my story you are correct. It was not too long ago that I allowed Tsunami, my daughter, to roam freely outside the territory of our herd. She was only supposed to be gone for a few weeks before coming home. That was almost two months ago. She's been gone far too long and I have this feeling that something isn't right. I came looking for you because I thought that maybe you'd want to maybe help in the search."

Stormfall cast her gaze to the ground. She was ashamed in admitting the reason behind her decision. It was not often that she felt shame and she had no idea as to what Fantome might say. He could just easily refuse to help search and she'd be back at square one. However she could not force her father to aid her in her quest. The problem at hand was of her own making. Her voice was quiet as she spoke again. "Will you help me father?"

Fantome shuffled on his hooves as he took in Stormfall's words. It was definitely clear that his daughter blamed herself. He stood taller than her and gave a soft sound at learning his granddaughter's name. He very much liked the sound of it. As Stormfall finished her story Fantome ruffled his wings. The chains around his neck and feet gave off a harsh note of discord in the silence and he ceased his movements. The rational side of him bulked at the idea of exposing his presence in the area lest he accidentally cause hardship to the other Soquili he knew were out there but seeing his daughter in this state ... it ate at the part that lurked deep down inside. He was her father and it was his granddaughter out there alone and possibly in peril.

Fantome silently reasoned with himself for a long period of time. Finally he gave a heavy sigh. He looked at Stormfall with a something like concern before moving closer to his only daughter. He could only imagine what he'd be like if she had gone missing. With a gentle touch of his left wing on his daughter's flank Fantome spoke. "I'll assist you in your search for a while. I feel it is the least I can do in this situation. It won't be for too long though as I believe my presence among others is sometimes detrimental but I will help you for as long as I can."

Fantome lowered his head to peer into Stormfall's eyes. It was the only right decision to make. Tsunami was a part of him and it was obvious that Stormfall had already pushed herself too hard in her search. He had no plan in letting his daughter ignore her own health. She needed to be taken care of it seemed. "We'll start out tomorrow. Tonight though I want you to rest. You look like you need it."

At the brush of her father's wing against her side Stormfall felt like a filly again. It was a different sensation than what she was used to living with a large herd. She raised her head to peer into her father's eyes before leaning oh so casually against Fantome's side. It would be wrong not to accept the sage advice that he spoke of. To have someone look out for her too, of her own flesh and blood, was a soothing balm to her nerves.

The mare dipped her gaze briefly before giving a soft sigh. "You are right. I do need to rest. Will you stay close by tonight?"

Stormfall would have no qualms if her father decided otherwise. She was used to looking out for herself. She'd done well so far in her journey but maybe it was time to accept that she couldn't do everything on her own.

~~~***~~~
(Time passage)
~~~***~~~

A sigh of frustration passed through the body of a rather daunting Angeni. He turned his head to follow the aerial movements of the mare soaring above him. Fantome gave a rather indignant snort before merely shaking his head. He could not stop his headstrong daughter from what she deemed was practice. His eyes scanned the distant horizon. Many days he'd done this activity as alone as he could be. It was nice to have a reason to act as lookout.

The Angeni was surprised and secretly pleased with Stormfall. She had sought him out again. Of course if the scenario was not one of dire importance he would have been more enthusiastic in his attitude. According to Stormfall's insistence that something was wrong Fantome had come to learn that his granddaughter had apparently gone missing. A rendezvous time between mother and daughter and come and gone and Stormfall had been worried enough to start her own search. She'd set out but was delayed by an injury sustained while flying during inclement weather. She had waited for her injury to heal and then weather to clear up before setting out once more. That must have been the period of time when she sent her companion to seek him out.

A rush of passing air overhead broke Fantome out of his thoughts. He observed Stormfall's landing with a worried gaze. His daughter shook out her wings with a grimace as a few loose feathers fell to the ground. He closed the distance between them and nuzzled Stormfall. "Is everything okay? You seem to be upset."

Stormfall loved the feel of the wind under her wings. As she moved through various flight patterns she checked them off in her mind. There was a method to the mare's madness. Thinking only of her movements in the air helped to stave off the unpleasant realization that Tsunami was still out in the world ... missing. Grief tried clawing its way back into her heart and Stormfall fought it back down. There was nothing to suggest the unthinkable had happened. Now more than ever it was getting harder to concentrate. The mare spotted a flash of white on the ground as she banked sharply to the left. Fantome. Her father. She was glad to have his assistance in her search. It would be easier to cover more distance than if she had been solely on her own.

A slight burning in her right wing joint brought Stormfall out her musing. She frowned. Why even after her injuries healed did they continue to flare up at inopportune times? Stormfall gave a heavy sigh. Her practice session today would be shorter than she liked. Angling her trajectory the mare grinned childishly as she 'buzzed' the air above Fantome. She landed shortly after with a bit of a grimace. The impact caused the brief flare of pain again. Stormfall turned her gaze to her wings as she shuffled them impatiently. A few loose feathers dropped to the ground and Stormfall gently picked one up to hold onto. As she did this she felt Fantome's nuzzle and heard his query.

"I'm alright. My wings are still apparently tender from before. It's frustrating. I want to fly far for any trace of Tsunami that I can find but my wings won't allow me to. I feel so useless."

Fantome sighed. He shouldn't have needed to ask. He looked at the feather that Stormfall had picked up. It seemed as if she was deliberating a decision on what she could do with it. With quiet resignation the Angeni dipped his head and gathered the remaining feathers into a pile.

"I don't know if rushing into the search is beneficial to you. I understand the pressure you are under in trying to locate Tsunami. But this frantic and frenetic pace you have set will only end up hurting you. Physically and then mentally when you realize that you've pushed yourself too hard. You might not want to hear this advice Stormfall but it is the truth. I suggest that instead of stressing your wings doing flight practice that you truly let them have time to heal. It almost seems at time that you are afraid to be in my company."

Fantome gently tucked one of Stormfall's feathers alongside one of his many links of chain. His piercing gaze caught his daughter's shocked expression. "Am I right in my assumption?"
