Regulus blinked softly and looked at the three beautiful baskets that sat snuggled safely into her mothers side. She had done so well, but he was glad for his unicorn blood, allowing her to heal after the truma of birth.
Circling them he checked the area, not wanting to completely let his guard down but desperate to snuggle up next to Reila.
Unable to hold back any longer Regulus lowered himself to the ground beside her and nuzzled her neck softly. "I am so proud of you." He said with a smile that showed how proud he was. Although he was scared... three baskets was a hell of a lot to deal with... he was also excited. This was the beginning of everything, a new world for him, a new life, a new future... and now he had three beautiful children who would continue his blood line.
The smile didn't fade even as he looked up at the stars that seemed to call to him about duty... duty would have to wait, tonight he had something more important.

Reila's breaths were finally beginning to even out after the childbirth. A thin veil of sweat still shone on the mare's pale nose, and for how tired she was, she seemed to glow with the joy of new motherhood. The third basket had been a bit of a shock for her, but she looked upon it fondly now, noting its resemblance to the beautiful stallion who had come to lie down next to her.
“They look like, you, love.” she murmured into the stallion’s dark mane, nuzzling his cheek before pulling back to fix her golden gaze upon him.
She loved him so. When he’d come to her that fateful night, she’d had no idea of how involved they would grow to be with each other. Regulus had been there for her since the very start, and tonight had been no exception. Reila couldn’t help but smile as she thought of the long days together that were sure to come. Would she finally be able to have someone to call family, now?
Her voice was soft. “Thank you,” she said, not only in response to his words, but for everything that had happened since they’d met. She’d be lying if she said she wasn’t afraid of what the three baskets held, but so long as she had him by her side... well, it would be that much easier.

Regulus's strange golden eyes looked into Reila's delicate ones, when he looked he always saw a swirl of colour within them, they were mostly gold, but a soft tint of brown and a splash of grey which added deepth and texture into them.... they were the kind of eyes that Regulus could get lost in. And although it was hard at her words of how the baskets looked like him he found himself turning to see himself.... sure.... they did seem to favour his earthy tones of brown and green but he could see the imprint of their mother on them all. "Perhaps.... but they are of you also, and although your mark upon them may be more subtle than my own; your's will leave the biggest inpack." Of that he was certain.
Part of Regulus couldn't wait to meet the little gems that currently lay hidden within their cozy homes, he couldn't remember his own time in a basket but he had the impression that it made the still growing foal feel safe and protected. It worried Regulus that one of his children would have a bad injury one day... and that he would not be there to help them. What would he do if he lost one to such a silly accident? What would he do if he lost any of them, mother included, for any reason? The thought was incomprensable as he looked at the little family unit that had gone from two to five in the space of a single evening.
Snugging into Reila's side he tried not to think of such things, sure you heard tales of woe all the time... that didn't mean it would happen to him right? He knew that with all his heart he loved this mare and the children they had produced together, knew that he would do anything for them; and he planned to provide for them, heal them and help them grow. Together they would see the world while he continued to heal those that the stars lead him to.
The idea made him grin like a Cheshire Cat. Then Reila thanked him, and he felt his heart melt even more. He kissed her tenderly. "Always." Was the only word he felt needed to be said.

Part of the reason that Reila could only see the stallion’s influence on the basket was because, in her eyes, there was only Regulus. Now that she looked more closely at the baskets, though, she could see the small vestiges of her own imprint on her future offspring. There was one with a phoenix on it, uncannily similar to the one she had on her flank, and the other had a faint floral pattern not unlike her own. The last one... well, perhaps that was some of her own coloration she saw.
The mare tilted her head up with a gentle smile at this realization, to be met with a tender kiss that she fell into and returned affectionately. Lowering her head a bit, she leaned into the stallion’s neck appreciatively, the strands of pearls in her mane rattling together as she did so. Her light golden eyes scanned over the other’s dark mane, noting how the stars that decorated the long strands shone like the night skies above. The unicorn was beautiful, and sometimes Reila could swear that he was other-worldly... and here he was, her prince.
“The stars are beautiful tonight,” she murmured quietly, her voice a bit muffled as she buried her face in his thick mane. She was less referring to the actual stars than to Regulus himself, though whether he would notice, she had yet to see.
The gentle glow on the baskets claimed her attention once more, and the mare smiled, her face breaking into an expression of pure adoration. Although she was scared, there was no denying that she’d already gained the sense of maternal love. “Have you thought of names yet, love?”

Regulus liked it when Reila was snuggled up close to him, her could feel his heart in his chest and was sure he could feel her's fluttering softly against his neck. Almost in sync. That made him smile. She was the only female... the only friend... who he had let get to know him, truely know him. Although Regulus had met so many soquili that it was possible he held a record none where more than patient and healer or student and teacher, he had strangely held them all at a distance though not on purpose. Regulus was simply not very good in social situations. He was flustered easily, never knew what to say and struggled to keep a conversation going. It was different when he was healing, then he had focus, a purpose that drove his actions and allowed the words to flow freely from his lips. His bedside manner was excellent. His social skills.... sucked.
At her mention of the stars his eyes flicked upwards automatically. "Yes they are," he murmured before looking down to see Reila's nose buried in his hair and eyes not look at the eterial heavenly stars but his earth bound ones. That brought a smile to his lips, and he actually enjoyed the idea of her seeing him as beautiful, comparing him to the very thing that had brought her into his life. Like with all his travelling the stars had led him to Reila that fateful night.... and he was very thankful to them for it.
His thoughts snapped and changed direction as she mentioned names. His eyes widened. Names? He hadn't even considered the fact that they would have to name the little foals that currently lay hidden! It was so obvious but the only thing he had been concerned with was helping to heal Reila and ensuring each baby was delivered to the world safely.... but names! Wow! He blinked, trying to think... but in the end he said; "I am useless with names." A soft blush covered his cheeks, highlighted by the soft golden glow of his eyes; "Do you have any ideas?" To Regulus it wouldn't have mattered if Reila had said she wanted to call their children Twig, Big and Bump; all that mattered was making her happy, seeing that beautiful smile light up her delicate features, to watch the markings on her pelt dance as she laughed.
Her happiness was the key to Regulus's own.

The corners of the mare’s lips curled up as she watched Regulus smile, her natural response to nearly everything he did. Reila lifted her head, touching her lips to the stallion’s cheek before resuming her former position as she gazed at the heavens above. Meeting the unicorn had changed her—for the better, she hoped. Before him there had been many suitors, flirtations, and yet none of them had ever been able to touch her the way Regulus had. Then again, she’d never had children with any of them, either. Reila had been aloof, insincere, even arrogant... but when Regulus let her under his skin, she had done the same. Before she knew it, she’d fallen for him.
The rest was history. Breathing deeply now that she could do so without pain, Reila was silent for a few minutes as she listened to her love search for suitable names, but ultimately fail. She snorted with a small bit of amusement, nuzzling him for a moment before her smile widened. She loved that he was awkward, even after all the time they’d spent together. It was something that she wasn’t sure she’d ever be able to cure him of, but it didn’t matter. It meant that he was genuine, and Reila had never appreciated this virtue until she'd met him.
“It’s alright,” she reassured him, the bell-like tones of her voice rising over the still night air. “I’ve not thought of any names, either, though...” Reila turned to peer at the faintly twinkling baskets, her honey eyes large with curiosity.
“They were born under the stars, and twinkle just like them.” A gentle laugh escaped from Reila’s throat now. Lowering her head, she settled against Regulus’ side once more, the excitement of the night beginning to wear off as tiredness settled in. “We shall see, won’t we?”

Regulus blush softly at the delicate kiss upon his cheek, he wanted more but never knew how to ask..... so instead settled for kissing the top of her head when she returned to her position nestled against his neck. They fit perfectly. Like two pieces of the same puzzle.
He couldn't help the smile that invaded his lips at the fact that Reila had no idea's for names either... it strengely made him feel more... normal. Regulus didn't know how good a dad he would be, but what he did know was that he wanted to be there for his children, teach any that showed signs of favouring his unicorn blood how to use it to help others. Regulus had always prided himself on his healing power, being a pure unicorn he was powerful and skills... especially since he had practically experienced everything the world could offer him. Disease. Scratches. Mortal wounds. He had seen them all.
One thing he did know, "They will have perfect names.... for perfect children.... just like their Mummy." He truely did believe that, a child grew into their name and it grew with them. He only hoped that neither would get injured too badly as foals.... he always cried after having to treat foals. Thankfully he had never lost one, but the very idea was enough to destroy him a little each time.
His eyes looked to the stars again, they really where beautiful tonight. Slowly he drifted until only the baskets were the focus of his attention. Each had a subtle glow, the one with the pheonix on it seems to have eyes that looked like his own..... yet the marking was very much Reila's. That just proved that they were his didn't it? The perfect mixture of their parents genes. His glow and her beauty. He looked into the bird's eye. "Phoenix.... what do you...." He paused, wondering if he was just being silly. But there was a constellation called the Phoenix, and he rather liked the name. Being brave he continued his suggestion. "What do you think to the name?" Regulus wouldn't have been offended if she didn't like it, they would think of other names.
He just noticed that Reila's weight started to press into him more, she was tired. He couldn't blame her at all. "Sleep." He said smiling softly and kissing her head again. "I will be here to protect you and the babies."

Reila smiled at Regulus’ words, feeling a bit silly as she did so. The unicorn always knew how to make her feel good about herself; there was never an end to it, with him. A pale pink blush flushed her cheeks, almost imperceptible in the darkness. “Regulus,” she began, again nuzzling the stallion as she spoke, “For them to be perfect, both parents must be perfect... as you are too, love.” She wouldn’t be the only one being flattered tonight—no matter how sleepy she was, Reila always knew how to return the compliment. Sugar-coating her words was second nature, after all, but with Regulus, she meant every word.
She followed her lover’s gaze, and her attention was drawn to the darkest basket, the one that was emblazoned with a golden phoenix. If she recalled correctly, that one had been the second one to be born. Listening intently as the stallion ventured a name, Reila smiled encouragingly as he paused, as if unsure of himself. It was adorable that he still acted so shy around her sometimes, but she wanted to show him that he never needed to be this way around her. “Go on,” she murmured, nudging him gently with the tip of her nose.
“I think that’s a lovely name,” she murmured, her voice slightly muffled as she spoke into Regulus’ side. There was a smile in her sleepy voice. The mare didn’t need to be urged more than once to go to sleep—her body was already telling her to do the very same thing. Before she drifted off, though, there was one thing she had to say. “I love you, Regulus.”
Raising her head briefly to look into the soft golden glow of his eyes, she smiled again, assuring him that she really did mean it. After all, they’d weathered the storm together, and he was the father of her children.

Regulus didn't reply to her words about him being 'perfect', he couldn't. Instead he simply snuggled into her mane and blushed softly. It made him.... happy... that she saw him as perfect, even if he didn't feel as if he were.
His smile only increased as she complimented the name he picked. Even if they didn't use it, it was happy he could contribute a little. He suspected that actual names wouldn't be given until the foals revealed themselves. Part of him couldn't help but wonder what gender they would be. He had been so preoccupied as he placed them carefully in their baskets that he hadn't thought to look... but now... in the silence and darkness his mind sought the answers. Soon. He would know soon. Although he had heard of baskets taking weeks to open sometimes he had a feeling that theirs would open in a matter of days. It was.... exciting.
When Reila spoke those three little words that sent his heart into a flutter and his mind scrambling with joy he couldn't help but bury his nose into her hair and breath deep her scent. "I love you too." His words may have been muffled, and she may have already been asleep when they left his lips; but he meant them all. And as her delicious weight leaned on he couldn't help but feel completed, needed.... wanted. This moment was perfection. There was nothing he would change; and he wished it could last forever.
