Ahh there was nothing, nothing in this world that beat the feeling of a sweet breeze on your face, power beneath you feet and causing old women and kids alike to flee like crazy before you as you swept down the street...well maybe not to that extreme, but Venice was known for skating a little bit too near pedestrians when she went training. Hey if they didnt want to get hurt they would get out of the way! Sure her view may be slightly tainted with roller derby being mainly about elbowing girls in the face but this was a dangerous sport! She had to train somewhere and the blocks of Destiny City were just too perfect to miss.
Popping open her trunk to her beat up Ford Mercury she rummaged around the boot till she found her training boots. Battered and bruised from years of abuse they were the best thing for this rouge expeditions on the roads of DeeCee. She of course would use her official match skates, heaven no! They were precious and were currently standing behind six inches of bullet proof glass in her apartment....well it was more of a shoe box but in her mind they were in safe hands. And she didn't have just those pairs, she had loads in there! Being the manager of the Devils meant she needed to keep the spare skates upto scratch, especially for new recruits who didn't have their own, she had them coming out of her ears with the amount she inherited or bought second hand to match the demand her team required. But she new her own, black with green lacing, the others were just standard skates, nothing pretty but they did the job.
Grabbing them she sat her self down on the pavement, not really looking who she was obstructing in doing so. This was her pavement right now.

It was winter. But a very very strange winter day. The air and temperature was almost spring like, well in the 50's, sun shining in cheerful defiance of the season. Many people were out enjoying the strange nice weather, and Aitana was most definately one of those people.
Not that snow wasn't fun, Aitana definately enjoyed the strange and cold white stuff and all the fun ways that one could play with it. Forts, sledding, snowmen, snowflake catching with her tongue, vicious snowball fights. But that didn't mean she didn't miss hanging around the park, more specifically hanging from things in the park.
Eating up sidewalk in her characteristically enthusiastic power walk, she almost missed Venice on the edge of the sidewalk, her strange car the only thing that actually caught the Brazilian's attention and slowed her pace.
It reminded her a little of the old clunkers from home, as opposed to the fancier and new cars that typically cruised around Destiny City. Hmmm.. She wasn't that much of a car person though, not like Ellie, so her interest was only momentary, quickly sweeping past before falling onto a vaguely familiar figure.
She had seen her somewhere before, but Aitana couldn't quite place it. It hardly mattered though when she spotted just what the woman was doing. Roller skates!! During the summer Aitana had tried to convince a person or two to rollerblade with her in the park without much luck. That desire sparked in her again, causing her to stop and gawk at the old and beaten skates.
As if it was weird and off putting enough to have some stranger leaning and starring from a few feet away, the single word that escaped her wrapped firmly in her thick Brazilian accent seemed akin to a certain ring loving golem. "Skates!"

Was that a shiver running down Venice's spine? Was she foreseeing some terrible future in her minds eye?....Nah! It could only be a good thing when a young Brazilian stranger happened to stare at you and shout out skates really loud down your ear! Only ever good.
"Heh...yeah, well done, they are indeed skates kid, fascinating aren't they?" The sarcasm was laced with a humorous tone. She wasn't trying to be mean and after all the girl had pointed out the obvious, she couldn't let it go with out a snipe!
Using the car as leverage she pushed herself up from the floor, skates all fastened and ready to go but instead of leaving there and then she casually placed a hand on the open bonnet and grinned.
"You really are....awe struck by them aren't ya? I can't blame you though, skating is amazing! Do you skate?" She asked carefully, she was still trying to work out if the girl was crazy or not and that was always a fine line to dance on. She tapped her chest slightly over her heart and smiled, her way of introducing herself.
"The name is Venice, or Vengeful Venice as my team mate call me. I'm the manager at the Destiny City Devils Roller Derby club. It...explains the amount of skates I have....I think...uhh...what's your name cutie?"

Even after living in the States for over a year now sarcasm and certain phrases didn't quite register in her vocabulary. Most likely it was because she did not really care that greatly to master the language, often slipping back into Porteguese in moments of emotion, or Japanese when around her friend Coralie. But as it was she did not seem particularly offended by the bit of sarcasm, only grinning more with the positive response.
"Are you to go skating in the park?" There was a twinge of jealousy in the tone.
"I can do it, but I only do it sometimes in the park. I do not own skates in America, only back in Brazil." Her hand waved in some vague direction that probably was not even remotely towards the country she'd mentioned. As much as she liked it she was fairly limited to the summer time when the park had rental services available.
The look on her face was genuinely impressed by whatever the 'Destiny City Devils Roller Derby club' was, and she nodded in approval, jutting out her own hand. "Aitana Ceu Matos."
Venice... Oh wait!! That's what it was. "I think I saw you before at halloween time! I was zombie Wonder woman."

Venice accepted the hand without a second though shaking it to within an inch of its life. This was how to make strangers even more comfortable by weirding them out even more. Sound plan Venice, sound plan.
"Wow...that name is a mouthful! A-ee-tan-na? No that's not right...Aww whatever I'll pick it up! And yeah I think I remember you! Did you do some of the games? Ha, I think I do! Although...."
Dropping her hand she stared at her giving the perfect stink eye as she looked her up and down. There was something amis here and that was lack of....
"Hey! Your not....twenty one! Ha how did you even get into my party you sneak! Nah, am just joking with ya! Although dont tell your parents about it, I already have the cops on my tail for that shindig i dont want irate grown-ups skinning me alive as well!"
She motioned a fake knife across her neck even if there wasn't any need too it was just fun to do! Venice didn't really mind about kids joining the party, only the complications if she had found any of them drunk in her bedroom throwing up! Yet since she had only found one or two it had actually been a great gig, she was already planning her next big bash.
"So...you dont skate any more over here? Pffft, girl I can't have that!" She slid smoothly over to her, an arm already lacing its way round her shoulder as she pulled Aitana towards the vehicle.
"Get yourself some skates! Comon it will be fun, I could do with the company and you dont seem like one of those psychos....wait, your not are you." The stink eye reappeared quickly as she pointed a finger at her, long nail nearly touching cheek as she questioned the poor dear. If only Venice knew she was the one coming across as the unstable one right now.

There were so many words. And even more gestures. But all that enthusiasm wrapped up with the pleasant emotion and tone in her voice did nothing but delight Aitana. This was perhaps something similar to how she spoke to Ellie, but unlike Ellie Aitana did not have the desire to run away very quickly. Oh no, very much the opposite!
"A-ee-ta-na" She parroted back, making the slight alteration necessary. Not that it really mattered. 'Hey you' was a perfectly acceptable name too.
Despite not really drinking or doing anything naughty, Aitana still grinned like a cat who had stolen all the cream as Venice teased about being a sneak, her tongue sticking out after a moment. "My foster family does not even bother asking much anymore. So it is no worries." Which is exactly how she HAD gotten into trouble running around the Mardi Gras celebrations at a mere 15. Not with the family, or no.. The policia.
Hardly needing the invitation, she let herself be lead along, quickening her feet the closer they got to the car. Gazing into the trunk as if it were some cave of wonders, she began to pull at the lips of the skates, searching for a number that would fit her. "So many."
It was about the time that she was being drilled again that her fingers finally found the winner, a mischevious grin showing white teeth. "Maybe just a little."
It was a joke, because by now she had figured out that most of what Venice was saying was a joke to. But that didn't mean that Aitana hadn't been called a psycho here and there. Most often by wussy, whiny girls who were angry she'd spiked a ball a little too close and hard. Babies.
Already she was kicking her green tennis shoes off, vice grip on the skates. There would be no mind changing for Venice! So she better really want that company.

Slapping her heartily on the back Venice grinned aloud (if one could do such a thing) as she watched Aitana pick her choice of skates and begin trying them on. “Ha, glad to hear it! I wouldn’t want anyone sane skating with me, that would be just plain weird!”
She waited while the girl unlaced and re-laced the dashing if not slightly used skates before her. Venice pondered over the many trials and tribulations those skates had seen, the battles won and the debauchery witnessed and then she had the horrible feeling that she had never washed them. There were some things Aitana would never find out that day.
“You know, you look good in those! Wait another two years and I’ll be trying you out for my team! As long as you love skating, winning, the occasional inability to sit down for a week and team work you could be well on your way to becoming a destiny city devil!” Holding out her hand she waited for the girl to finish and then help her up from the floor. It wasn’t that she didn’t think she could do it but any excuse to cement a friendly atmosphere was always worth doing.
“Of course….” Shutting the car boot slowly a sly mischievous smile played on her features as she looked the younger girl up and down. It was easy to see the cogs working in her brain as she thought up her plan. “Of course…you’re going to have to a) prove your worth and b)…..CATCH ME!!! WHHEEEEEE!!” With a laugh that could only fit a three year old an adult 19 years older perfected it without a second thought as she giggled wildly before setting off down the street her feet hitting the ground with military precision as she headed for the park mere meters away. If Aitana played her cards right she would catch up and the pace would slow for a more leisurely conversation, if not Venice had truly left her in the preverbal dust until she caught up, all of course while the extremely healthy girl had a cheeky smoke. Only time would tell.
