Boots sunk into the snow, his toes already cold but not yet freezing, as he made his way like a normal person down the road. No teleporting and no roof top jumping. With all the snow around the city, and ice, he didn't think jumping from root top to roof top all that smart. If he hit a ledge covered in ice, hidden under the thick snow which rimmed every building, he'd fall and wasn't sure he could teleport under the stress of falling.
The purple coat was pulled tightly shut about his upper half, arms crossed over his chest to keep his coat closed. It might be a warm uniform but it was absolutely frigged out tonight, snow was again falling as nature seemed intent upon further inundating the city.
It wasn't that he didn't like the snow, or winter, on the contrary he liked both quite a bit. It was just being out in them, especially when he wasn't as bundled up as he'd like to be. All these snow storms, and really no end in sight, he was glad school had been canceled the last few days. Safety getting to and from school had been becoming an issue as more and more cars decided to play car hockey, kinda like hockey but with cars rather than people on skates.
He didn't know where he was going, just looking for the few people who were out and about. Draining energy when and where he could, all the while he let his feet lead the way.

Kyndall was on her way home after play rehearsals. She'd stayed late to work with some of the children with larger parts and to help the crew. It was dark and her car hadn't wanted to start in the snow. The cold made it want to stay at rest and she didn't have the desire needed to fight with it over simply walking home. She didn't live very far from work so it wasn't a problem to get home. Her heels crunched in the dry snow and she sank a little, the cold running up her thick tights.
She shivered.
This wasn't weather to walk home in but the exercise helped her stay warm. She tried not to pay attention to the falling flakes or the flurry of them catching on her hair and clothing. She wasn't expecting to meet with any resistance on the way home but she hadn't been patrolling much, either. The cuts on her neck were hidden behind clever theatre makeup. If anyone saw them they'd ask questions and she didn't want that right now.
The fight with Benitoite was still on her mind no matter how many times she tried to push it away. She had no idea Tony had gone out as Camelot to defend her honor and make the boy pay. She wouldn't have allowed it even as heartbroken as she was. After all, as he said, he was just a boy. All the same she hoped she wouldn't run into Beni again, either. That's why she hadn't been patrolling. Shalott was taking some time off.

While school was out it seemed being at rehearsal's had still been a go. He'd had to go, and he'd stayed a while after most of the cast had left. Working on his role while he remained seated as often as he could, as to keep from aggravating bruises and various other injuries. He really did smell of salve now, he just hoped people didn't figure out why the smell and thought it was hair or bath soap. Anything but what it really was. Maybe he shouldn't be powered up even? But he had energy to gather and after driving home he'd parked and told Lily he was going out for a walk in the snow. It was the common excuse he used for when he went out, he was surprised she'd yet to question if he was seeing someone and keeping them a secret. But as of yet she hadn't asked.
Well too bad for him Shallot, or Kyndall as it were, hadn't found out about her boyfriends intentions to go out and find him. Maybe if she had found out, somehow or other, he wouldn't be as injured as he was. It was the injuries from the fight with her plus the ones from her boyfriend, he hadn't had a lucky week and was dreading walking about a stage and performing while injured.
Looking up finally he stopped to look around. He knew where he was but didn't know why, or rather he knew why but didn't want to admit it. The whole time he'd bee letting his feet lead him, and gathering energy on the way, his feet had headed him to Kyndall's place. She was a comfort and that was something he needed right now - comfort. Biting his lip as he glanced around again, fingers rolling several balls of ebergy around in his pocket. No, no, no, he couldn't be here and he shouldn't be. He had energy to gather and home to get back to. He had dinner to work on, something warm for him and Lily. And yet here he was at the corner of her block, standing there like an idiot.

The night was closing in a bit more, snow falling faster around her. Kyndall just wanted to get home and relax. With everything happening lately she didn't want to think anymore tonight. Coordinating the play was difficult and the premier was getting closer all the time. She had that stress hanging over her head as well as nursing and hiding her injuries. The only one that knew she was hurting was Tony and Benitoite himself and she liked to think that she'd hurt him a bit, too.
She was walking quickly and all but ran up the stairs to her stoop.
Something caught her attention and made her look left toward the end of the block and saw him standing there. For a split second her heart froze, wondering what he wanted and if he'd found out who she was underneath her Shalott mask. She didn't think of him anymore as the child that needed to be protected and nurtured. She thought of him as a chaotic thief and a brute, snobby and bent on getting his way. She was angry with him, afraid of what she saw him becoming capable of, and hurt that he was not who she thought.
Tony told her she didn't have to hate him and she couldn't bring herself to do that but all the same she wasn't on his side anymore. He wasn't a misunderstood kid on the wrong side. He was dangerous. She knew that now. Kyndall stood there, looking at him, wondering what to do. The tender feelings she had for him were gone - vanished. In their place was mistrust and secret knowledge.

Knowledge he was unaware she had, and they did say knowledge was a weapon. This knowledge would soon be a weapon which would be used against his heart, though he didn't know this. A glance around showed Kyndall to be just arriving home, oh god should he approach? It seemed she'd seen him as well. Mind decided he headed to her, in the interest of manners he now had to go see her since he'd been spotted, he couldn't simply turn and go home.
"Kyndall." A hand raised, only to his shoulder height, in a slight wave. Unknowing that she thought of him in a whole new light he was as friendly as he'd ever been, and why not be? She wasn't the enemy as far as he knew, had he a clue he'd be conflicted and unable to greet her in the way he did now. As it was though he was clueless of who she doubled as he was able to ignore his own injuries as he approached with a slight smile in place.

Knowledge was the enemy and Kyndall knew that for sure. What she had seen and experienced she could not unlive even if she wanted to. Hearing his gentle voice calling her name broke her heart all over again and she froze where she stood on her stoop, closing her eyes and drawing in a shaky breath. She realized she was trembling. She’d had such hope for him, that she could save him. As she told Tony chaos seemed to be a poison and it was spreading, infecting people and taking them over.
When she turned to look at him now she could not see the gentle soul he had been. All she could see were the way his features had been tight and drawn in battle and how much anger shone in his eyes. She looked away, shuddering. He hadn’t known it was her he fought but that didn’t matter. It could have been anyone. The point was that he was being taken over, too, and to protect herself she had to cut him off now.
This hurt as badly as anything she’d ever known. She had loved him like a son and knew he valued her like a mother. No parent should push their children away but she had no other choices.
“Go away, Benitoite. You’re just like all the others.” She accused softly, letting her voice travel the distance. “You’re not who I thought you were.”
He wasn’t who she wanted him to be. The hope she’d had was gone and maybe it should never have been there in the first place but she hadn’t known any better. Despite opposing viewpoints she wanted them to find common ground. As a knight she had felt that was her duty but, as Tony said, she could not trust him.
"You hurt people just like the others. You aren't any better than they are."

Freezing as her words reached him, not that there was much distance between them, he stood staring at her. Something of a surprised expression taking up residence upon his features. "Which others? I assure you I'm not like those who serve the other side." His voice, the tone, dropped several degrees as he spoke of the white moon and it's followers. Perhaps it was tainting the darkness, he had at one point thought it as such though that had been brief, but he didn't see it now. He had even seen it a good idea to talk to the other side, to try and turn their opinions and perhaps change their actions. That was even fading away as he saw them as the enemy, those who simply didn't belong.
"Tell me, what was it you thought I was? This is a war, people aren't exactly going to make friends with the opposite side." He answered calmly, you couldn't go making friends with members of the opposing side, that wasn't how war went.
"I am not like them, they are far worse." He stated, a touch of hurt tinting his voice, while he sounded offended - which he was.
While he spoke, and watched the green haired woman, he felt his insides knotting and tightening - it hurt. He felt ill but tried to ignore it, push it aside. Was she not going to talk to him now? Was she going to ignore him now? For good? The idea hurt, a lot, and he wanted for a single moment to let her know but he couldn't. He couldn't let her know how much it hurt so he kept the mask up, being Benitoite - cold and calm. He didn't let the weaker aspects of his personality show.

She turned to look at him, eyes wide and already filled with tears. No matter that she'd promised herself she'd be calm in this. She had loved him and now turning him away was breaking her heart more than she could have imagined. She turned to face him slowly, her face catching the light and the hurt plainly etched on her features. She wasn't going to limit herself. She wanted to cry, damnit, and she would.
"You think they're the monsters? I SAW you! I saw you hurting people. People like my daughter. The same people you claim to want to protect!"
That was mostly true. She didn't know Camelot had come to avenge her already. She didn't know he'd had his own brand of justice served. She wanted to believe his motives were as pure as he'd presented but, as he said, this was a war. There were two sides and she'd come out on the other side of it. They were divided now by a line of differing ideals and not one they could really bridge. While he was hurting people she couldn't be around him. He would not hear her voice of reason.
"I have never seen the other side do anything but help people. I used to think you weren't capable of hurting anyone. I was wrong."

"Hurting people? Who did I hurt?" And how had she seen, when had she seen? He hadn't seen her and with her green hair she'd have stood out. Had he been careless and let a civilian he knew see him at work? He hadn't hurt anyone though. Shaking his head e spoke up. "I didn't hurt anyone, I was borrowing energy." The line he used often, it was true though, he didn't go and hurt people and energy was always regained by the people he took from.
"You haven't seen the face of the other side." He was unaware of her role in this war and so didn't know she had, though she hadn't seen the side of them which he'd heard existed. He couldn't turn her away from thinking he hurt people, he could see that now. It hurt to think that she believed him to be in the wrong, to be the one who hurt people, but he didn't speak up to defend himself again. It was useless, and he didn't wish to waste his time on the impossible.
"Am I to assume we are at a crossroads and must part now?" He questioned, even as he felt his chest constrict. He knew the answer but needed to hear it, even if he wished he could avoid the words.

"Borrowing energy? Did you intend to give it back?"
She barked a short laugh though it came out more as a pained sound than the lighthearted sound she was going for. Kyn's eyes stared at him. She wasn't stupid enough to believe he didn't have an agenda for his cause and part of that involved energy from civilians who couldn't fight back. It seems like such a strange thing to steal that there had to be a reason for it. At least in her mind.
"You were stealing it for your own purposes, whatever those are."
She felt betrayed in the deepest part of herself and when he said those last words they bit into her and drew blood. He was playing it so cool. The mother and friend did not believe he was as calm as he presented. She remembered the way he'd hugged her and how much he'd confided in her. This was not one sided now. Without meaning to she got angry at him for being so cold.
"I loved you! I wanted to help you and you betrayed my trust! You hurt people like me! Would you ever steal from me, too?" She paused, wiping her eyes haphazardly. "I've never seen that other side hurt people. I've never seen them hurt anyone. Not even those like you. I've only seen them stop you and help the people who can't help themselves."

"People gain it back, on their own. It needn't be given back." Not that it could once turned in. Why did he explain himself? Ah yes, because he cared about her. She meant a lot to him, even if it seemed whatever friendship, closeness, they'd had was coming to a rather sudden and catastrophic end.
"My own purposes, do you imply that I take it for personal reasons? Anything I have done has been for my side in this war! It all goes to helping protect the people of this planet!" Offended his voice rose, higher than he wished it to as emotions gripped him and held fast and tight. He ignored, or forgot for now, that he had once taken energy and consumed it for himself. He'd been sick at the time, too weak to fulfill his duties as a new Lieutenant. It had been that one time anyway!
Those words were so final when they came from her mouth, loved no love, it was over and he knew it. There was no repairing this, it was beyond broken. Now all he felt was a deep hurt and he wanted to return it and so unchecked he opened his mouth and let loose with his own words, each one meant to hurt her just as he was hurting.
"I never betray you! I never once did anything against you! Do tell me, if you believe I went after you, just when and where I did this? I don't recall suffering memory loss, though if you are correct by your words than I must be." There was that arrogant snobbish personality of his coming through, hurt and angry, he struck out with his words.
"I would never hurt you, how dare you make such an assumption. As for the other side why don't you go find a knight - Camelot. Quite nice he is, loved to discuss how much he dislikes fighting. At least that was true, till he decided that it was proper to go and attack me without provocation." He hadn't been doing anything, well nothing outside of the ordinary energy gathering. "To get to the point, you say they don't injury even my side? Than the reason I have two broken ribs would be what? I threw myself onto his shield?" He questioned, sarcasm lacing his voice and dripping from his words.
"No, you have seen this wrong. This is war, both sides hurt each other, the side you claim to have seen do nothing is not as innocent as you think. You shouldn't make such assumptions." Snapping, cold and angry. He was hoping to hurt her, he was aiming to do as much damage as he could, even as he turned on his heels to leave.

"He did that?"
She knew Camelot as a civilian, of course. He'd rescued her daughter. On the surface that's what he reaction was. Shock and doubt swept her features. Inside the knight was seething that he'd hurt Benitoite in direct retribution, she assumed, for her own pain. How could he be so callous, careless? Kyn couldn't understand it. She loved Beni so how could he make the leap that hurting the boy was the right thing to do?
Because he loved her, too, and hated to see her cry. Christ this was complicated! He turned to go and she felt stabbed, her heart bleeding. She called after him, hoping to wound in return though she'd tear herself apart for it later.
"Who do your victims know? Who loves them and worries when they're late coming home? They could be anyone, innocent, like my daughter. Like me. Do you even see faces on them anymore or are they just sources of energy to you? What's the difference between stealing from me or anyone else? How is it different? Because you know me? Because you needed me? "
It was because he knew her, she assumed. Because he had affection for her. It was the same reason she hadn't wanted to fight him and had been hurt in the fight rather than push to really hurt him in return. She couldn't. He was just a boy and confused and beneath all the pain and confusion she still loved him. She knew she'd never be able to fight the Negaverse know, knowing what she knew. How close Camelot had been. How close she'd allowed Beni to be. It threw her.
She sank down on the snowy stair and cried, feeling the rift as clearly as if a part of her was torn away. She'd had such hope for him. It was dashed by the cool and cruel creature he'd become. All she could do was begin to mourn the loss.
