Snow had fallen over Destiny City. A crap ton of snow had fallen in the last few days. Marybeth Cordettie was very pleased with this fact. She was dressed today as warm as a person could, decked out in a long black peacoat with rainbow buttons, her rainbow scarf and no less than four pairs of jeans. The time had come for a hardcore day of snowdom. It was time to build that blasted fort that she had been dreaming about ever since that documentary that had been on the television about them Eskimos and their silly little igloos.
Well they could have their igloos. Marybeth would have a ******** snow castle.
She was armed today with a bucket that was normally used for beach travel, but today was going to be used for the construction of her castle. She had a few small shovels too, but set to work with her gloved hands first, piling the snow into the bucket, then dumping it onto the ground, having leveled the snow around her into a manageable—albeit slippery floor.
This was going to be the most amazing thing known to man. And she would be the creator of this amazing ice palace.
Those Eskimos could kiss her a**. Igloos were nothing. This was the future of winter living.

General Painite loved the snow, but it often made energy collecting a bit more difficult. Particularly when a dump truck unloaded and no one wanted, or even could in some cases, to get out of their homes for any reason whatsoever. Still, there were always the necessities. It just meant Painite had to stalk during the day, and not at night.
No one wanted to be out in the freezing cold snow at night.
The Negaverse agent was hunting around, flitting from shadow to shadow, mostly for her own amusement than out of need. No one could see her. Sometimes she liked to amuse herself more than anything else.
It was quiet.
She noticed someone building in the snow with a lot of determination and concentration. She moved closer, staying out of sight and making no noise, wanting to see what had this girl's attention so keenly drawn. She was not so young that building in the snow was the Best Thing Ever, at least not from what Painite could estimate, and she was seemingly alone.
Whatever she was doing, it seemed she was very intent on it.

The castle was beginning to shape up, and Marybeth was seeming more and more pleased about it. She had brought herself some bottles of water which were chilling in a small pile of snow. That was a problem. The snow she piled up kept wanting to fall right back down.
The girl sat down on her icy floor and crossed her arms for a moment, thinking of some way to remedy this issue she was having. Finally it seemed that an idea had taken hold of her, for she drew one of the bottles of water from the snow and opened it, piling up some snow and pouring some water over it, patting it together once the water ran down.
The day was so cold, that the water turned to ice rather quickly, holding the snow in place.
This was what she had been waiting for. The breakthrough of the century. She had no idea that anyone was watching her, she didn’t care. Or, maybe she would have cared. She didn’t want anyone to see her masterpiece until it was finished. Finished and furnished, complete with running water.
Well. Someday at least. Spring was on its way after all. And as the castle would melt, there would be running water. Marybeth snickered to herself as she began to add on to her beginning of the wall.

Painite watched, but got bored fairly quickly. Not that she didn't think it was clever, using the water to make the snow stay. She did. Maybe it was time to go introduce herself to the civilian. No one else was really around: it was too cold to want to go outside.
Painite could have a little fun before she took the girl's energy.
She moved toward the slowly growing structure, smiling at the girl in a way that was not entirely pleasant despite how pretty her face was, or how soft and friendly her eyes could look. There was always something not quite safe in her expression. An edge that even someone completely unfamiliar with the negaverse might be able to pick up in the air. Not her aura, of course, but a part of her nature.
This super villain sometimes had a hard time hiding her intentions.
"Building an igloo, are we?" she asked, her tone lightly colored by a British accent that gave it a slightly melodious nature. It was that, or the sing song way she had spoken.

Marybeth looked up, confused at the intrusion. How dare someone come bother her while she built her castle? Her temper flared for a moment and she shook her head. “Igloos are for losers who have no imagination. I’m building a castle.”
She looked the woman over, giving a pleased little nod. That was a wicked outfit. “Did you get your clothes special made from someone online? I was looking up steampunk outfits online a few weeks ago. I couldn’t believe how much those assholes charged for sticking a few gears to clothes.”
Marybeth sighed then and gestured to her budding castle. “Want to help? I’m going to make those Eskimos wish they were as cool as me when I finish this thing.” She held up a pile of snow to Painite, as if that would solidify the offer.

Painite's eyebrows lifted a bit at the response. So the girl had spunk. That was interesting. But she was reacting without seeing just who she was talking to. Usually the weird outfit made people pause or think twice about talking to her.
It wasn't what struck fear, though. That was up to Painite herself. Or her very sharp spear. Not that she had it summmoned at the moment.
But if she did call it...
"I got it from someplace special," she said, when the conversation did inevitably turn to her clothes. She grinned broadly, though she willed it to be softer than her wicked intentions would like.
"Now why are you wasting your time building something like this? Igloo or castle, they're basically the same thing, right? And anyway, what if somewhere to just come along and knock it down?" She moved her foot pointedly, to knock over the snow wall the girl had been working on.
Painite was interested in the girl's attitude, and her will to stand up for herself. Her dedication to her own plans. Maybe Painite was on a bit of a recruiting kick, but she saw potential everywhere, even in simple, strange moments like this.

The answer about her clothes didn’t much surprise Marybeth, she knew that most of the people who wore steam punk crap were far too snotty to reveal where they got it from. They were always so close knit and protective of their ‘secrets’. It was just some gears for goodness sakes. Her eyes narrowed when the woman mentioned someone knocking down her castle, and they narrowed even more when she herself made a motion like she would knock down the wall that Marybeth had nearly gotten frostbite in building.
“Well.” She said, her voice quiet, though still trying to be sweet. “If anyone decides to try it, they’ll see how fast I’ll knock them down, or maybe I’ll just go old school and use them in my walls to ward off any other unwanted visitors.”
That sounded both disgusting and appealing. A snow castle wall full of people parts. “Or I could go all Vlad on them and make a big ice stick and impale their pathetic little skulls on it.”
Hm. Maybe the drama department at Crystal had some props like that. It would be worth looking into at the very least.

Painite laughed.
"Spunky, but impractical. You need to think a bit more. Threats are well and good, but if you can't follow through, what's the point? Disregarding for the moment that you are far too weak to attack me or do any kind of damage to me, what kind of a person kills over a snow wall?"
She laughed, kicking at the snow to push the girl further. There was going to be no castle here.
No dream castle.
The Negaverse General watched the girl, thinking this was very promising and very funny. It was a strange little initiation test, but Painite never really followed the 'book'. If there was one. She grinned and tilted her head.
"Oh dear. Looks like there was some damage here. It's a shame you can't do anything about it, right? But that's a common enough feeling these days, around here." Very nice segue, she thought to herself with a mental back pat.

The girl pursed her lips. Well. That had been very, very rude. She looked up at Painite, then drew another bottle of water from her improvised cooler, opening it, and taking a drink, grey eyes never leaving the woman.
When she put the bottle down, she wiped at her mouth, then gave a smile. “Well. That wasn’t very nice at all. No wonder people think the British are all rude snobs.” She took the bottle of water and threw it at the woman, hoping to get her soaked with the cold water, and very much hoping this would cause her to leave her alone.
She didn’t have the time or the patience for some overgrown nerd to wreck her project. Not when she was finally doing something constructive with her time.

That was just.
Uncalled for.
Painite laughed, then looked at her dripping clothes. It was damn cold. Far too cold for water to be thrown on her, damn it. She shook her head and brushed off some of the water with what calm she could muster.
And then she moved.
Her spear appeared from no where and she grabbed the girl by the neck, hoisting her up from the floor and holding her high. Like she weighed nothing.
Like she was nothing.
"You have a lot of nerve, standing up to bullies. Very noble, but it won't get you far. In fact. It will get you killed. Unless you learn better. Unless you are better. Do you know your place in this world? This city? What are you thinking right now?"

The moment she saw the woman looking at least a little upset, a smirk appeared on Marybeth’s face. That was a good shot, if she did say so herself.
Though…when she was suddenly lifted into the air, a spear…a spear? Why was there a spear? Questions flew through the girls mind at a mile a minute and she seemed just a little dazed. What was she thinking? She was thinking that this woman was completely crazy, that’s what she was thinking right now. After a few moments of numb…idiocy, the raspberry haired girl finally struggled against the hold.
“I’m thinking that you’re on the edge of being a complete lunatic. Why do you have a spear? Where the hell did it come from? What the hell are you?” It wasn’t a matter of who she was anymore. She was quite sure that this…person wasn’t human. Quite sure indeed.

"On the edge, perhaps, but not over the line just yet," Painite grinned at her. This girl, for how infuriating she was, had a lot of spunk. That was such a draw to Painite: she couldn't help herself. She saw a little of her own beginnings in this girl, and wanted, almost needed, to tap this potential.
"All those questions I can answer for you. I can show you the answers for yourself, in fact. It just matters if you're interested enough to see. If you're strong enough to see. Tell me."
She put the girl down, watching her keenly, not pulling back or banishing her spear yet. She held on to her weapon in a way that might have been non-threatening if not for the events that had just unfolded. She watched the girl with her deceptively bright, cold eyes.
"Do you want to see?"
Though the girl didn't know it, she didn't have much of a choice. It was either go along with whatever Painite had in mind for her, or get killed.

Did she want to see? Marybeth’s lips pursed and she shook herself off after Painite put her back on solid ground, then looked at her, locking her own grey eyes on the General’s minty ones. “Yeah. I want to see. What is it that you want to show me. I can take whatever it is. No problem.” She was afraid, yeah. But so far…she hadn’t been hurt. And as crazy as this lady was, she had a spear. So, either she was going to be invited to join some sort of badass acting troupe, or she was going to be getting into something that was far to dangerous for her own good.
Either way, it sounded like it would end up as a good time to be had by all.
“Where should I be looking for this demonstration of insanity?”

Painite liked it when they were combative, but she knew this was not denial. This was not someone who was scared and trying to get away. She saw the interest in the other girl's eyes.
Or maybe she was projecting it, but Painite didn't think so.
No, this was the next new member of the negaverse. This was the next Lieutenant Painite would see flourish and grow. Learn. She smiled at the idea of it, her expression ever so pleasant despite the menace in her eyes.
"Insanity isn't the right word," she said softly, placing her hand against the girl's chest, tapping her fingers gently. "We prefer chaos."
She pushed her hand into the girls chest and wrapped her fingers around the girl's starseed. Chaos being pushed into the seed was terribly painful, but it was all worth it in the end. When the pain ended, a new negaverse agent would emerge.
And then the fun really started.

She didn’t flinch when the hand was put against her chest, a good many girls had put their hands over Marybeth’s chest, though…when the hand went into her chest. Now that was something new, and for a moment, there was just a bit of confusion as to what had just happened.
Then the pain began.
Well, now she knew for future reference that it hurt like hell to have a hand inserted into one’s chest. Good to know, at the very least. She let out one bitter scream that lasted for a few seconds, then drew in several shallow breaths, trying to rid herself of the last bits of pain. “What…what the <********> was…” She glanced down, legs growing slightly cold from a breeze that blew through. Where had her pants gone…and where had she gotten such fine boots?
After a moment of looking herself over she glanced back to Painite, brow furrowing. “What did you do?”
