This was it. He was leading another mission. This time it would go RIGHT! He had his promotion on the line, not only his dignity. He read over the assignment again, his face paling. Alright. Well, a Moon was always useful to have with, without a doubt, and so Harrison was the first to get the text message. But they... definitely could use more backup...

There was a long period of debate as he wobbled to the common are of the Dorms, thumbing down his list. He could invite Candace... but... well, he knew she was busy with her own laundry-list of missions anyway...

What about your boyfriend?

"Shut up," Jerry's face went red, scowling down as Jordan's number came up the list. You know what? Things were fine between them. They had cleared the air. He respected him and their friendship and was flattered about the whole thing. And he was confident Jordan felt the same.

He forwarded the message there as well.

Need help with a mission! Will be in the common room

Harrison showed up with his boots laced and a ratty ready to wear-and-tear t-shirt on. He still had his beginning trainee coat, which had seen its fair share of horrors over the past few months. Most of the faded bloodstains were his. It was so damn hard to get anything out of white.

Mission could mean anything from time to stab all manner of hell pony horrors to making balloon animals.

"Hope you weren't waiting too long," Harrison said. "B0nez and me were uh, doing some research in the library." By research, he meant dicking around playing video games. B0nez said it helped with hand-eye coordination, but Harrison wasn't so sure about the game to combat correlation.

Jordan appeared a few minutes later; he'd had to locate a spare scarf, his new one having once again gotten burned. Maybe he should be asking for shorter ones.

It'd help with replacement rate, Ferros said.

Shut up. It's half your fault anyway.

Not my fault you leave the ends loose, Ferros laughed.

Jordan ignored that with as much dignity as he could manage. He hadn't manage to singe the new coat, anyway. "Mission time?" he said as he entered the room. "Where are we off to - ah, hi, Harrison." The last time he'd seen the Moon trainee, Harrison had still been under the impression that he was a princess.

"Ah, no! Not at all! I'm glad you could- oh! Jordan!" He smiled, eyes flickering down to the stripes on his new coat, "Oh, goodness! When did you get promoted??" Relief was written on his face. Poor Harrison had some catching up to do, but hey! Two intermediate Suns? Hopefully this time wouldn't end in more puddles.

"There's been a er... something close to Seattle..." He pulled the folder with the intel out for their perusal, "Hopefully it'll um! G-go smoothly?"

Mission Infos
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Survey Mission 2B
Article Headline: Family's remains found in local farm close to Seattle.
* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be an intermediate trainee)
*Article contents: It took three weeks for neighbours to stumble upon the Anderson family's remains: it seemed they had been decaying in their house for days prior. So far no witnesses have reported seeing anyone unusual entering or leaving the farm.
MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 2B. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Each player must roll at least three times with rped reactions. Once they have "collected enough information", they can return back and submit a report in this thread.
1- 20: You search around, but don't find any obvious evidence. The house has been taped off and thoroughly perused, it is hard to figure out what actually was there on the time of the incident
21 - 40: You notice the floorboards under you seem to feel sort of light, some parts groaning heavily as you move around.
41 - 60: Upon cutting open the carpet and examining the floorboards further, as you cut into the wood, you notice that it is infested by termites. The entire house, even the walls, seem to be infested.
61 - 80: You try the furniture next, cutting into pieces of wood, sofa, bedding, whatever you see, only to yield the same results
81- 100: There is an odd symbol carved underneath each bed, at first you didn't notice because it didn't seem that important. A sort of spiral curling outwards...

* 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully

"Hey, Jordan," Harrison mumbled. Most of the times he and Jordan had communicated, he had been under the heavy influence of drugs. And it had all been pretty embarrassing.

The folder gave him something to look at besides his shoes.

"Well, s**t. An actual mission." Seemed pretty standard, and read like the calls he used to get on beat. Nobody unusual. If it was a farm it wasn't like they had neighbors breathing down their necks. Still, there had to be a reason that they had been called in. "Nothing too bad, if they're sending us and it's been almost a month. This everybody that's going?"
PostPosted: Sat Jan 28, 2012 8:24 pm

"Just this week," Jordan answered, and his eyes flickered briefly to Harrison again - it seemed that that truly bizarre experience in the kitchens with Julie had been his test, which just made him feel weirder about it; he wasn't sure whether to apologize for having put the Moon trainees through that (inadvertently, but still) or keep quiet. Not the time to mention it now, at least.

He accepted the folder when it was passed to him, looking over the information inside (and similarly grateful for something to look at). "That must have been unpleasant," he commented, and handed it back.

"Well, um!" He cleared his throat, straightening his scarf, "If you're both ready to go, this is the whole team. To the portal?" This wouldn't be awkward. Two of his best friends by his side. They'd be in, do their research, and out again victoriously.

"I guess I can manage covering both your asses, if all we got to worry about is a few dead farmers," Harrison said.

Always tactful. To the portal.

About five terrible jokes immediately sprang to mind. "Works for me," Jordan said instead. Off to the portal it was.

Oblivious, Jerry brightened up, putting an arm around both friend's shoulders, "Alright, then! Onward!" And immediately pulled them forward towards the light house. It was a quiet walk, but went quickly, humming the Sun and Moon theme he had previously written all along the way.

The area Harrison had grown up in hadn't been very ritzy, but it hadn't been rural either. He stepped out of the portal onto the dirt road and took stock of the old porch, and the rest of the wide, deserted property.

"Farms are supposed to have animals, aren't they?"

He squinted into the gloom of the house.

"Guess maybe nobody fed them, so they ran off?" he took some steps up the porch, to the already-open screen door. There was an ominous creaking. He looked back at Jerry and Jordan, flipped on a flashlight, ducked under the crime tape, and went inside.

It was just a house, as far as he could tell.

He aimed the flashlight beam onto the rug and ceiling. "Report didn't say where the bodies were found, either." The beam swept over the furniture. He wouldn't be surprised if they were found right here, dead from extremely stupid decor. "Who decorated this place, a deranged gardener? Who the hell still uses floral prints for a sofa?"

Harrison took a seat on said sofa, prying some gum from his pocket and unable to keep his eyes off the giant roses and carnations.

"Even got holes in it," he grumbled, picking at a snag with his fingernail. He yipped and pulled his hand back, standing. He glowered at the sofa like an upset dog. "Something moved."

"Looks like the regular authorities have already been all over this place," Jordan said. "Any animals who were still here when the police arrived were probably taken away to other farms." He wasn't exactly a farm kid himself, but it stood to reason that any animals remaining on the farm wouldn't be left to starve or go feral.

He ducked cautiously under the crime tape, taking a small flashlight out of his pocket and shining the thin beam around the room, at the ceiling and floor and towards the dark hallway that opened off the living room. "Pretty sure most of this furniture is older than we are," he said absently. "80s? 70s maybe? It'd explain the painful lack of taste." He experimentally flicked the light switch. Nothing. "Looks like the power's been turned off."

He started down the hallway, but paused briefly at Harrison's exclamation, turning back and shining the flashlight towards the couch. "What is it? Bugs? I'd expect some bugs in a farmhouse ... "

The next door in the hall hung open, revealing a sparsely decorated bedroom, barely more personal than the dorms. Was something moving in the corner? Jordan transferred the flashlight to his left hand and took a cautious step into the room, alert for anything unusual. A rustle, a scrape - so faint that he wasn't actually sure he'd heard the sounds at all. The closet stood open and empty, the corners unpopulated by anything more sinister than ordinary shadows.

When he flicked the beam of the flashlight towards the dark space under the bed, though, something caught his eye. He dropped to one knee and peered under the bed. "There's some kind of symbol carved in here," he called back towards the living room. "Under the bed. A spiral or something."

"Spread out, see what we can er... find..." Jerry mumbled as they had entered the house. He was a city boy. He'd been to the country exactly once in his life, a brief period at a distant relative's farm in which he had discovered his complete dislike of horses. It was quaint, definitely, and mildly reminded him of his grandmother's taste.

Jordan and Harrison had split off to search their respective rooms, but he made his way into the kitchen. There was... definitely perks to these external missions. He'd check the bedroom next for anything good but... first came a quick glance through the pantry. Nothing, just old food and worn boxes. How long had this been sitting here getting stale? It smelled musty.

Alright, keep looking. He tried the cabinets next, oblivious to the bugs crawling milimeters from his fingers in the gloom. It was light enough, thankfully, but just shadowy enough to put him on edge. A bit of direction gave him something to cling to, at least. Dishes, ancient moldy bread, canned goods, an old crock-pot... AHAH!

Bingo.

His eyes lit up as he found the liquor cabinet. There was even a couple flasks stashed away. The old farmer probably liked to take a sniff with him on those cold mornings. Jerry glanced over his shoulder to make sure the others were busy before quickly pouring off some of the Old Grandad into one flask, and what remained of the nearly empty of Southern Comfort into another. Straightening up, he took a quick sip of the SoCo before screwing both lids on tight and tucking them into his back pockets under his jacket.

"F-find anything?" He called out over his shoulder. Nothing seemed of note here anyway. Just an old forgotten kitchen.

The tiny, barely-audible scrapings and rustlings continued. Jordan paused in his careful sketch of the symbol he'd found to listen carefully. The sound was coming from ... the floor? He finished the sketch, tucked the small notebook back into his pocket, and took out his pocketknife.

When he'd managed to pry up a splinter of the floorboards, he saw that the wood was riddled with termite holes. As he watched, a termite wriggled out of one of the holes and went skittering off into another crack. "More bugs," he said thoughtfully.

More bugs than I'd think should be in a house, Ferros put in.

They were in the couch, too. Jordan stood and headed back into the living room; once there, he crouched down to cut a slit in the carpet and pull it up. More termites scuttled away from the flashlight's beam; when he pried up another chunk of floorboard, the termite borings were obvious. He looked up. "They're all over. I'm surprised the floor's not caving in, as many termites are in it."
