My friend just gave me tickets to go see Pippin (its playing in my area in a few months, she got them in advance) and the CD. The soundtrack is cool, not the greatest I've heard but not the worst, but I really have no clue what it is really about except war. Have any of you guys seen it? Is it good? Whats it about?

*twitch twitch* Pippin is okay *twitch twitch* Teehee, I'm just playing! I was in it last year. I loved the cast but I could have done without the musical. It was okay. And as for a summary, none of us could figure one out. Seriously. We all sat around and were like "Well...this happens, then this happens, oh and I forogt about this" and five minutes later the person you were trying to tell it to is just staring at your blankly. Here's the one we gave most commonly: "Pippin" is about the 'true-life' story of King Charlamange's first born son Pippin and his life and trouble. Basically, without much detail, he goes to war, goes to a whore house, meets a girl, almost commits suicide, and ends with the girl. sweatdrop Sorry if that didn't help, but we did it last spring and most of us STILL don't know what it was about.

I really like Pippin a lot. It's basic moral is how a guy who could be a big man, powerful and rich, decides to be a regular guy at the end. the songs by Stephen Schwartz are great. I saw it a long time ago at camp and I have the DVD which I see often. It's one of my favorite shows, though not my top three.

I haven't seen the show, but I've read the libretto and listened to the CD (*love!*). As far as I can tell, it's a story about a man/boy searching for meaning in his life. Along the way, he's manipulated by the group of players 'telling' the story, and who eventually try to bring the play to a blazing conclusion. But Pippin defies them and goes off with the girl, to live a life that is "safe, but happy."

Pippin has the honor to be manipulated extreamly easily, adding personal twists makes it awesome, seriously. err...Basicly, its about Pippin, who is the son of King Charlamange who feels empty inside. So he leaves his school to look for himself, joining war, having sex, finding love, etc. while the story is told by the players.
Of course, this is the fun part, i've done this show where we had the players be demons, making it a really religious show, but i've also seen it done where the players are in his head. (this just shows you how important costumes can be)

"Love Song" is among the worst songs ever written, but this is most definately Schwartz's best work. I like it a lot. Fastrada's a beeyotch. I reccomend seeing the video at some point; Chita Rivera plays her.
