Yin had managed to track down some assignment that Miss Danny needed to do for class. With this bit of information in hand he walked quickly through the demon dormitory to the ghoul's room and then stood outside, hesitating.
He needed to see the ghoul for himself to know that she was alright. To talk to her and do whatever it was that people did after breakups.
There was really no use for him to stay outside of her room doing nothing and so he rapped on the door. This was about Miss Danny, and everything else could wait.

Danny was sitting on her small window space located behind her bed. Just staring off into space, not really doing much of anything.
She hadn't slept all night thanks to Roch's haunting conversation. Sometimes two people weren't meant to be together. She knew that was true, but her teenage instincts were telling her otherwise.
Feelings were too confusing. She hadn't gotten up on time thanks to the fitful night, and had decided to just skip the rest of school. Call it a sick day.
A knock on the door interruped her thoughts. Her head flicked towards the door, then back out the window. "Come in, its open."

At least it sounded like Miss Danny was home. He was unsure about just opening her door and going on it, but she had requested it, and she had skipped school, so it was likely that she did not feel well enough to get up and answer the door.
He creaked open the door slowly and stepped in, adjusting to the blast of heat fairly well as he carefully shut the door behind him. "Miss Danny?" he called out softly. "It is I, Yin. I brought you the work that you missed in class today."

Work? What work? Ah, he must've meant homework. That definitely wasn't what Danny wanted to think about.
"Just set it on the desk," she said idly, still looking out the window at nothing. Her was simply consumed with thoughts of Rikki, and it was driving her crazy. It didn't help that he had apparently left to go to his parents house. Danny knew Rikki didn't like his parents. Was he really picking them over Amityville?
She frowned, turning to look at Yin. Bluntly and with a frown, she turned to face the mantis boil on the other side of her room. Quietly, she asked, "Yin am I stupid?"

He set the papers down and stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say or do but not wanting to leave now that he had finally found her.
He watched her turn to him, and listened to her question. He could not lie to her, and she looked as if she desperately needed an answer. "Miss Danny, people are smart in different ways. Do you consider me stupid?" Was he redirecting the question to himself? Yes. But he did have a point and he hoped that she would answer him.

Danny stared down at her feet, not daring to look at Yin's face as he answered. Which, quite frankly, he didn't. Danny was looking for a yes or no, and he hadn't said either. It was upsetting.
She stayed in awkward silence for a moment, then said, "Of course not. You're really smart." Everyone was really smart to Danny.
She was stuck in an awkward stasis between wanting to talk for hours and not wanting to talk at all. It seemed silence was the better option though. After talking with Roch, she'd just felt worse, not better. Weren't best friends supposed to make you feel better about yourself?
With a grunt, Danny stood up and said, "Thanks for the homework." Then she crossed her bed and went into the kitchen where Yin couldn't see her. She didn't want to talk, but needed to.

With a small sigh Yin picked up her homework and followed her to the doorway to kitchen. He stood there an looked at her for a minute.
"Let us see what your homework is then." He looked down at the paper in his hands and cleared his throat before he began to read. "Chap...ter Three....Sh-ad-ow...shadow? man-ip-ul-at-ion." He stared down at the word, drawing a complete blank as to what that even was before he started in on the instructions, stumbling over all but the most basic words.
His face was crimson and he had a headache by the time that he had finished the short paragraph and looked up at the demoness. "If you do not believe me to be stupid than there is no possible way that you could be."

"Yin I don't want to do homework," she said bluntly and brisquely, snapping a little with frustration at the end. Danny didn't want to hear someone babytalk her into believing she was intelligent. It was like Rikki had said. She was just stupid.
Danny leaned heavily on the small, low table set up in the kitchen. She was tired. Her resolve had been broken by her visit to Rikki's dorm, and she was just too tired to do too much of anything at the moment. By morning she would probably be bouncy as always, but today she was an empty battery.
Shaking her head, she added, "Sorry I'm just not in the mood for it."

Yin could tell when he was not wanted. He had opened himself up to the ghoul in a reckless move that she had completely ignored and she had made it clear he had no place being there. "As you wish Miss Danny."
He turned from the doorway, loathe to leave her but knowing that it was not his place to pry farther.

"Ah, Yin wait-" she said, groaning. She'd done it again, hadn't she? Scared someone off without even meaning to. All she wanted to do was talk it out, but she was having a hard time figuring out the words. Especially when her body was telling her to stay alone, but her mind was saying to talk. It was a complicated dilemma Danny had never experienced, and she was quickly getting annoyed with it.
Danny scooted out of the kitchen quickly (slower than usual, but still quickly). "Yin- ... I um ... did you slap Rikki?" she asked quietly. Maybe he would say no and Roch was lying.
Somewhere she wanted to believe he was lying, but why would Roch make something like this up?

Yin froze as she asked her question. He was half-tempted to just keep walking to not even turn to face her but finally he did. He looked her in the eyes levelly, something that he had problems doing on the best of days, and answered.
"Yes. I slapped that...Rikki. It may not have been my place but I do not regret my actions."

Danny let out a breath of air. So he really had done it. The bruises on his face proved that Roch really had beaten him up, that much was true. Danny was at least glad that he had only given the boil bruises. It wasn't as bad as she was expecting. Normally on boils ... Roch just didn't stop. Rikki had come home with more than a scratch or two before.
There were quite a few questions that she had- Was Yin okay? Was Rikki okay? When did it happen?- but only one that was really important.
"Why?"

"He said something that he should not have to you." Yin replied simply, still looking at her steadily. He did not elaborate, he probably did not need to, but nor did he wish to elaborate. It had not been a fight per say, and the details were unnecessary. Probably.
"I apologize if you view this as meddling, I did not intend to do so."

He was saying things about her?! Danny's frown grew thicker. First Rikki hadn't told her he was just leaving at random, and now he was saying things about her?
She shook her head whispering the word no to herself a few times, but she could already feel herself shaking lightly.
"What did he say," she said in a voice that was clearly forced to be calm. Her mind was swimming. Had he told anyone else? Was he saying bad things about her? Rikki had talked smack about people ... but everyone gossiped! She just ... never thought he'd do it about her.

Yin looked down, somewhat ashamed. "He told me what happened between the two of you. About the...the broken bond. I still do not fully understand how that could happen, and it was not my intention to pry."
Roch had made it more than clear that the mantodae was interfering where he should not. Well, where the reaper thought he should not interfere. He probably had had a point, but Yin would apologize to no one but Miss Danny about it.
