Quote: Survey Mission 3DArticle Headline: Blighted crops leave farmers in China confused. * D class difficulty level (you can run this mission solo or with a group/team) *Article contents: Many local farms in China are suffering from blighted crops and an overpopulation of locusts. Experts predict a rise in export costs and overall food prices. MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 3D. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Each player must roll at least three times with rped reactions. Once they have "collected enough information", they can return back and submit a report in this thread. 1- 20: You walk around the local farm area, but the locals don't seem to take you too well, gathering around you yelling at you in a foreign language for some reason. 21 - 40: You investigate the "crops" a little closer, and notice that for any that survived withering and drying, several have strange tiny "burn marks" in them, a strange spiral shape... 41 - 60: Underneath you are hundreds and hundreds of dead locusts. They are a strange discoloured grey hue... 61 - 80: Though noone else - especially the farmers - notice it, you see a black dog in the distance, staring at you with glowing red eyes before it trots away again. 81- 100: A couple of the farmers are arguing with each other - you can't understand what they're saying, but it looks like you should just lay low... Wilson felt mostly better now, mostly. The whole kid incident was still a mystery to him, but at the moment what the trainee cared more about was that he could walk around the island without limping or constantly wincing from the twinges of pain that shot through his limbs with every step or movement. He scrolled through his phone as he made his way over to the Lighthouse. Now that he was relatively healed, Wilson figured it would be an apt time to try out one of the external missions—and no, Wilson wasn’t going to admit that he was beginning to grow tired of the same old scenery. The island was his home and he would like to get out once in a while kthxbai. While he could do one of these missions himself—the one to China piqued his interest—that would be a rather lonely experience. It was time to call some fellow trainees.Blade Kuroda this is wilson wanna go to china w me? come to lighthouse now Once he finished punching in his message he sent it with a satisfied click of the button, but then decided to scroll through the list of trainees. Two was fine and all, but three would be a nice number to have. There was one problem though: who to invite? He really wasn’t sure so he decided to use a random trainee. Hopefully he wouldn’t mind.Ravvlet hey! this is wilson wanna go to china? come to lighthouse now Then he paused. Since he was inviting Washington, why not take the time to invite a couple other trainees he didn't know so well? Yeah, Wilson. Meeting new faces while in a foreign land. Great idea. Hmm. Reine might be a good idea. And then Justin could come along too. Because why the heck not.danse-hexe this is wilson wanna go to china? come to lighthouse Zoobey this is wilson wanna go to some raid...thing...in china? come to lighthouse

At the text invitation, Deryk's eyes grew huge. He had never been to China! Then again, he had never stepped foot anywhere outside of the US before the whole Hunter deal. Even so, he was more than happy to jump onto this mission. He quickly grabbed a few essentials, then practically bolted on over to the lighthouse.
There, before he could greet Wilson, he took a few moments to catch his breath.
"Hey man! Going to China are we? Gonna be awesome! Oh. Should check what we are investigating. Would be good to know. Yes. Lets see. Blighted crops. Locusts. Hm. Interesting. Doesn't sound overly suspicious. But hey. Reason to go to China. I'm excited. You excited?"

Reine rolled over on her bed and stared at the ceiling, bored. Maybe she should go run a training course or something, she knew she needed the exercise- it was just so cold, though, she didn't feel like crawling out of the nest she'd made out of her plushies, and a blanket, and her pillow...
At least, until she felt the phone vibrate. Idly she rummaged around the plushie-pile until her fingers found Io, and then, flicking the phone open, she squinted at the screen.
China? CHINA? MISSION? Reine jumped out of bed, scattering stuffed toys all over the floor. She smoothed her skirt down, threw her jacket on, and ran out of the room, only to realise seconds later that she'd forgotten her boots.
The life trainee arrived at the lighthouse, panting slightly from having run the whole way, her hair left loose and.. probably also unbrushed. So much for trying to be more like a girl.. she was way too excited about this.
"Hey Wilson! Hey Deryk!!" She called out to them, waving as she walked over.

China?
If it weren't for the fact that he'd seen the external missions himself, he'd have wondered what his fellow trainee was on about. As it was, he was excited - he'd never left the states before; it would be nice to see a foreign land! Wash was still a bit concerned, however; all he could remember from media and his world history class was that China had lots of little impoverished rice paddies, or something. And unsafe factories. And no Internet. And communism.
And no. 2 pencils.
Whatever the case, he had a feeling he had been sorely miseducated. This would be, like, a learning experience, or whatever.
Plus, maybe he'd get to know more of his fellow, er, cadets - and there they were now. He waved to them cheerfully as he walked up to the lighthouse.
"Any chance we can score something to eat while we're out and about?" he joked. His tummy had the rumbles that only pork wontons could satisfy. His only experience with Chinese culture, after all, had been at a buffet. He suspected unfortunately that Hot Woks would be in short supply in a farming community.
I just. Words. You're unbelievable.

Tiferet had finally tuned Justin out after the trainee mentally went over, once again, the entire bestiary in Storm Peaks and their spawn times. He was currently in a debate with himself as to whether or not the Crystalweb Cavern questline started at level 77 or 78 when - oh hello! A text! Text this is wilson wanna go to some rjsie ting toi? cdfi tin Uhhh.... what?
Okay, okay, he had this. Read it slower, slower okay. Justin squinted. Text this is wilson wanna go to some raid...thing...in china? come to lighthouse Ooooooh that made more sense but really, China?! Weren't they those gold farmers in China, what a horrible place to choose a raid, unless they were raiding with Chinese people, wait, were there actually Chinese people who didn't gold farm? This was all very perplexing.
Which is why when Justin finally used mapfinder through his cellphone to locate the Lighthouse, he was surprisingly quiet and had the most perplexed expression on his face. None of these other raid members seemed Chinese. He voiced his complaint. "Um, not for nothing but, don't we need like, a Chinese person or something Chinese, like maybe a panda? "

After the first few awkward minutes of rocking back and forth on his feet, patiently waiting for the rest to respond, Wilson brightened up when Deryk arrived. “Definitely! I haven’t been there since I was in high school.” To his delight, the others soon showed up and he happily waved to each trainee upon arrival. “Hey!” He looked over at Wash. “Food? I guess we could, but I don’t really have any money on me. Sorry. How about everyone else?” Wilson stared at Justin with a perplexed expression. “We don’t need a Chinese person to go to China.” He paused and then raised a hand, sheepish. “But I’m half-Chinese if that helps.” Admittedly, he looked more like his English father than his Chinese mother.
“Anyways! Let’s get going.” It was warm when the death trainee stepped through the portal. He shielded his eyes with a hand as he lifted his head toward the sky, the sun blazing brightly. Wilson tugged at the long sleeves of his jacket until eventually rolling them up to his elbows. He stepped forward, but heard multiple crunches beneath his shoes. He looked down and scowled at the sight. Dead locusts. Ugh. Frowning, Wilson lifted one of his boots to stare at the soles. A couple seconds of staring later—the bugs were a discolored hue—he chose to keep walking.

Reine had no idea how many others they were expecting, but she took the time while they were waiting to attempt to tidy her hair up, pulling it into a ponytail. She didn't recognise the next person to appear, though- another new trainee?
"I don't know about food," Reine shrugged. "Got some coins with me but I doubt they'd take those.. maybe we can have lunch together after we get back. I'm Reine, by the way," she smiled, holding her hand out to Wash, and then--
Oh hello, Justin.
At least she could more-or-less decipher what he was talking about now, thanks to Deryk's little explanation a while ago. That didn't mean he made any more sense, though, and she couldn't help laughing a little at pandas, well.. she doubted they would get to see one even when they got there.
Reine followed Wilson's lead through the portal, and was immediately glad she was wearing boots. The odd crunching sounds weren't comforting at all; she had to struggle to keep a straight face, reminding herself that they were here on a mission, they had to keep professional.
Tentatively she reached out to touch the plants, examining the leaves. Some of them seemed to still be fine, though those were rare; most of the crops in the fields had withered. What had made the difference- how had some managed to survive? Her first thought was that it was probably due to some sort of resistance, something genetic, but..
"Hey... look," she called, waving the others over. "There are like.. weird marks on some of these?"

Pretty soon, the rest of the mission group showed up, including Justin and Reine! He wasn't as familiar with the other guy though, but he did recall seeing him during his awakening.
"Oh hey guys!" he said to the incoming people. At the mention of food, he thought on it. Grabbing a bite to eat might not be a bad idea but he definitely did not have any Chinese money on him.
"Half Chinese? Cool! Don't suppose you could speak any? Might be useful. You know. In case we gotta speak with the locals. Might be lucky and find an english speaker though."
Shrugging, he went into the portal.
Once on the other side, he grinned while looking around. HE WAS IN CHINA!! The area looked kinda what he'd expected for a farm area. After all he had seen some movies and whatnot that showed a few places like this one. While he looked around to take in his surroundings, he noticed a large black dog with red eyes in the distance.
"Uh. Guys? Guys? Guysguysguysguys? There's something there. Big black dog. Glowy red eyes." he said while staring at it. But the creature had already trotted away, out of sight.

Wait, wait wait, one of them was half chinese?! How did that work, did they get chopped in half when they were wholly Chinese or...
Sadly, his party wasn't the waiting patient kind, and the Mist trainee eventually had to chase after them, giving a strangled half-yell as he disappeared to into the dungeon portal-
- And out the other end. The lack of loading time lag into the dungeon was incredible. Dude, and look at the graphics, this was amazing. Of course Justin had never really been in China, but he had heard about the next WoW expansion involving pandas or something so clearly, he was in the new expansion. Holy crap, he was a beta testing a beta test in a beta test, he was just that awesome.
The trainee ignored Deryk and Wilson entirely as he ran around looking for surroundings. Clearly he was the tank, so everyone should follow him, that was how things worked around there. It was actually pretty boring, for such a large room, but after around five minutes Justin finally found some mobs to aggro: what looked like simple ordinary Chinese gold farmers. Tank gear? Check. Guild tabard? Check. Weapon? Check. All cooldowns in place? Check.
"'Kay guys I'm gonna pull some mobs!" Justin yelled before literally running towards the locals, arms waving, weapon drawn, and well, in general, looking like he was ready to destroy everything in his path - or just himself.
A few seconds later and the locals were all but raising their pitchforks and shovels, yelling angrily at him, surrounding him in a neat circle as they gabbered in some strange language. Boy was he a good tank! Justin turned around and gave the rest of his group a thumbs up - they could start attacking the mobs any time now.

"Wait what?"
Justin was already gone. And before long he had pulled aggro on the locals.
"AAAAAAAAAAH WHATAREYOUDOING?! We'renotsupposedtofightthepeoplehere! They'rehuman! Just a survey mission. Servery! No combat! No combat!" he shrieked while he started to flail. Oh god, they were all speaking chinese angrily at them.
"Wilson do something! Quick! Please!"

The first thing Wash noticed, as he stepped in after the others, was the fine carpet of grey-looking bugs coating the landscape.
The second was their fellow trainee running at a bunch of farmers and waving his weapon-
Wash facepalmed. Hard. In his head he could hear Sally chuckling. They were all shouting at the strange kid in what Wash could only assume was Chinese. What did that kid think he was doing?!
"Hey man! HEY! What are you - you might wanna desummon yo' s**t, and back away slowly. Unless you want to be a kebab! Those guys aren't messing around!" God, he hoped the locals didn't know English. The business end of those pitchforks looked awfully sharp and rusty... Glancing at Derryk, he muttered, "D'ya think they have tetanus shots back at Deus?" He gestured at the pitchforks worriedly. "And what's with all these damn BUGS?" On this ******** plain, a voice finished for him. What is even...

Apparently, just the small mob of angry farmers was not enough for Justin, he was a capable tank and could totally pull more. His teammates were clearly doubtful of his skills, so he would show them all how it was done.
With a hearty shout, the farmers trailing after him, Justin ran around in a circle, yelling the entire way-
- Until he managed to pull practically the entire field of farmers. While they weren't exactly stabbing Justin to death quite yet, they did seem about ready to any moment now. The closest farmer walked over to the trainee, gibbering incoherently, poking one finger at the trainee's chest rather accusingly.
In return, Justin turned back to his group and winked. "See, doesn't hurt a single bit."

"Tetanus? Hopefully. Some areas of the island look kinda broken down anyway. Like town area. Lots of scrap metal. Would be good to be prep--"
As if the first time around wasn't enough. Justin went ahead and pulled even more aggro from the farmers.
"AAAAAAAAAAH JUSTIN! STOP BEING A LEEROY JENKINS!" he practically flailed. Deryk was going to freak out a little more, but he noticed a few of the farmers beginning to argue among themselves. It was really really making him nervous. Most likely Justin's antics were making tensions run high over all.

He rubbed the soles of his shoes against the ground, the audible crunches of bugs still crackled softly when Reine called everyone else over. Wilson leaned over the girl’s shoulder, his head cocked to the side as he examined the peculiar shapes. Curious, he raised both eyebrows and continued to stare at the plants. “That’s weird. They look kind of singed. I wonder what caused that.” Before he could reach out to carefully touch the leaves he heard Deryk shouting. First is about some dog—except he didn’t see such a creature anywhere—and next it was about the newbie Lamb.
Insert blank expression here. “What?” Wilson finally looked over at Justin and the aggravated mob of farmers. “Oh fu—“ To make matters worse, the mist trainee opted to incite them even more. [What kind of kid did you invite here, whippersnapper?!] I don’t even know anymore…orz He ran over to hastily pull Justin away from the group. “What Deryk said! We’re here to survey. Survey! No fighting if we can help it.” Crap. Crap. Crap.
He turned around to shout some Chinese at the farmers, apologizing and insisting they weren’t here to harm. Except Wilson wasn’t sure if they had caught all of that. In fact, they only seemed to get even more hyped up over his words. His hopes at calming them down sunk. When was the last time he had used Chinese? Damn. Had he gotten his pronunciations wrong too? Where was his Chinese workbook when he needed it?!
This mission was spiraling downhill. “EVERYONE. MAKE A RUN FOR IT.”

She watched Justin run in circles, shouting, with the farmers chasing behind him, and the rest of her teammates, too, were reacting the same way as her- face, meet palm. God, did this guy never learn..
Alright, never mind the chinese farmers, they were in need of a different sort of translator this time, one that could effectively communicate with Justin. Reine moved closer to the rest of them and elbowed Deryk, attempting to get his attention.
"Isn't there some kind of raid thing where you like, just, uh, do surveillance or something, you should tell him that before---"
Before the farmers started coming after the rest of them too- first Wilson, and then one of them started yelling at her as well. Welp, too late to do anything but grab Justin and Wilson and run.. no, too late to do even that, since now they were surrounded. By a bunch of angry-looking men, some of them carrying gardening tools that looked like they could deal a fair bit of damage.
But so could she. And she wouldn't need to hurt them if they just backed off nicely, would she? Summoning Alynthe, Reine waved the swordbreaker around threateningly, maybe if the farmers saw they meant serious business, they'd take the hint and leave them alone..
