In Ender's mind, there was little more satisfying than a walk at sunset, then continuing into the cool purples and pinks of twilight. She'd been a'wandering, as was her wont on nights like this... and now she'd ended up in a part of Phony City that was decidedly out of her depth. And the sun was gone. Oops. The noises of what might have been the fabled club district boomed behind her, but this place was dark and quiet. Towering pieces of construction equipment arced up into the sky around her, and a black abyss in the center of the lot seemed to be a gaping maw that wanted nothing more than to devour innocent phonies... " Keep calm, Ender," she whispered to herself. " It's just a construction site. Nothing... nothing's gonna hurt you." There was a sign post nearby, but it was far too dark to read. She sat near it, wanting to get off her hooves for a while. She wasn't really sure how she'd gotten here, and she knew that she'd never be able to find her way home in the dark. Resolutely, she curled up on the ground. She'd stay awake until the morning, then figure out how to get back when the sun rose. But her eyelids began to get heavy, and she started yawning, and- Wait! What was that noise? Hoofbeats on the pavement, fairly heavy ones from the sound of it. It must be an adult! But what kind of grownup was out this late at night at an empty construction site? Ender whimpered a little and hugged her knees to her chest, trying to make herself as small and invisible as possible- no easy feat for a pony that glowed in the dark.

What was an adult phony doing out this late at night and in a place like this? Well he was looking over the work that was being done on his new facility! The adult in question had not been an adult for very long but he was already getting ready for his choosen career. The building itself would be three stories tall, one level for each phony's choosen career. The place would be grand, he knew it. And his siblings could all share the building. But the adult turned toward the sound of a soft voice somehwere near by. A young one? What were they doing here?
The footsteps got louder as they approached Ender. He wondered what mother would allow their filly or colt out so late. Goodness knows his own mother would take his keyboards away if she had caught him out this late at night. The adult stopped as he saw the glow in the dark filly and recognised her. It was Ender! Taquita's little ghost friend! No wonder she was out so late, he knew she did not have any parents to watch her. So he approached with a smile on his face, forgetting he didn't look like he use to.
"Ender? What are you doing here?" a smooth and sexy voice spoke. It was like cream but definately male. Draft Punk, newly grown, looked down at the curled up filly and wondered what was wrong.

Ender had no parents, but she did have one of those old "Too Smart For Strangers" videos. So when a strange grownup mysteriously wandered by and knew her name, she was aware that this was no good. After all, the guy on the video who knew that colt's name was a kidnapper! She'd gotten bored with the video after that, so she wasn't sure what happened next, but she didn't want to find out! So, doing the only thing she could think to do, she bolted, skidding dangerously close to the edge of the giant hole. She shrieked as the ground gave way beneath her hooves and clung to the edge of the hole for dear life. Her back end dangled dangerously above the foundation hole; she wasn't sure if she was strong enough to hold herself up for very long. Well, this was a pickle. On the one hand, big scary hole. On the other hand, giant dangerous stranger who knew her name. This night was probably going to be very brief and very, very unpleasant.

"Huh? Ender?" the phony blinked as the small ghost girl shot away from him with a rather terrified look. Frankly a girl with a ghost for a cutie mark shouldn't be so easily scared in his opinion. But she suddenly took a turn towards the large hole where the largest part of the building would be. He gasps as she suddenly tumbled part of the way in.
"Ender!" he ran over to the girl and immediately hauled her back up. He held her, which was a little disorienting since she glowed but at least his face was visable. He huffed a bit, shaking his phonytail out of his face. The black and white striped hair fell back behind his head. He suddenly realized Ender didn't know who he was. He felt a little bad about scaring her, being that it was dark and his voice was hardly the same.
"Ender it's me, Draft Punk! Taquita's brother. Are you ok?" he calmly set the girl down and reached up to hit a button. A few lights flickered on around the work site from lamps that had been placed. It didn't provide a lot of lot but it at least let her see him.

When the stranger pulled her out of the pit, Ender was too dazed to squirm- which was definitely a good thing. When the stranger told her who he was, she was too dazed to do almost anything. She didn't know how Draft had gotten so big overnight, but at this point, she was willing to accept any kind of a miracle. When the lights revealed that yes, this was a bigger version of Draft- she'd recognize that blurple coat and the eyes anywhere- she couldn't recall a time when she'd felt so relieved. What was he doing here? She didn't care. All that mattered now was that she wasn't alone. She threw her arms around his neck, clinging to him like a small monkey. Badly shaken by the past five minutes, all she could do was nod and squeak out a feeble "uh-huh."

Draft smiled when the filly finally recognized him. It wasn't hard actually with his coloration and the stripes on his rump. His mother's contribution to his genes he guessed. But the small phoal was obviously still shaken. He held her with one arm, singing a soft song with his melodious voice. His voice had gotten deeper but just enough to sound nice. He hoped the girl was calming down.
"You look like you'e seen a ghost," he grinned at her with a wink, "Did you get lost Ender?"
He looked around at the building site. He saw nothing that should attract a phoal, even one like Ender, to this place. He knew the filly was friends with his sister but they weren't this dark and mood driven. He smiled and settled Ender onto his back, his phonytail tickling her nose a bit.
"Not a safe place to get lost Ender, this is the beginning of my new club," he smiled at her then began to walk around. "You see this large hole will be a concert area for PARTY to have his rock shows. They haven't built it up yet but above it will be my club where I can DJ for dance parties and such." He didn't reveal what the top floor was going to be, that was a secret.
He walked back towards the entrance which was hard enough to find as a larger phony, he couldn't imagine how she could have found it. Finally at the construction entrance he stopped and looked back at her, "Come on. I'll take you home. I want to make sure you get there safe and sound."

"You're gonna take me home? Really? Oh thank you thank you thank you!" The phonyback ride was a great relief; Ender felt safe now. She'd have to ask Taquita if she could borrow her brother sometime. Sniffing, she nodded again, then realized he couldn't see her. "Yes... I was taking a walk and the sun set and it got dark before I could get home... I've never been out this far before. But the sunset was so pretty and then the stars started to come out... and then I ended up here and it was a lot creepier than I like." It was good it was dark; Ender was blushing pretty bad, ashamed for being so dumb. "I was gonna stay up all night then walk home when it got light out because I couldn't see very far and I don't think I'm old enough to be by those... other places, the ones with the lights yet." She clung tightly to his back, enjoying the view. Feeling secure was making her a lot more coherent and talkative. "So you guys are building a big music hall and dance floor? I bet that's gonna make your dad really happy."

The older phony listened as Ender told him how she got so far from hoome and in this area. It seemed logical but she would be need to be more careful. This was not an area for fillies and colts to be by themselves. While most phonies were pretty good some could be a little mean.
"Well you aren't old enough to go by yourself. But don't worry, you're with me. I'm cool with most of them," he smiled.
e began walking, taking a detour he knew through the club district. She wasn't old enough to go in them but she was with him. So everyone was nice. A few fillies with a lot of make up waved at draft, a few dudes in tight shirts and sunglasses (even at night?) nodded to him. Finally they came to the stable area of the phonyland park.
"Here we are. I remember your house too. Taquita showed me once when we were walking to school," he began trotting to the ghost girl's home. He chuckled as the girl asked about his building, "Oh yes. It's not going to be used for...ah...formal occations all that often. But yes, it is definately for music. When you are old enough you should come by. As it stands right now the club is for Old Enough only."
He reached the girl's house and settled her down at the end of the walk. He felt she could walk to the door on her own. It would at least gie her some dignity. He smiled down at her and gave her one last hug for comfort. "Now you don't go wandering around like that again. I stay up most nights now so if you really do want a night walk just call me. I'll walk with you and make sure you get home safe ok?"

As they passed through a strange new world of bright neon and bright phonies, Ender waved to a few of them as they walked by. They seemed to recognize Draft and for the most part were pretty friendly. Sure, she got a strange look here and there, but for the most part, everybody seemed to be having a good- if grown-up- time. She didn't quite get it; she preferred quieter fun. But each to their own. She made a mental note to visit the brothers' party house sometime when she was older. As they approached her home/bookshop, Ender gave Draft an enormous hug, than trotted down her walk. But then a thought struck her and she turned back.
"Wait!-why are you being so nice to me? I mean, I know your sister really well, but I never really got to know you when you were my size. And now you're volunteering to take me on walks and stuff. Thank you a whole bunch, but I mean... what did I ever do for you?" They weren't close like Taquita and herself were; this kind of kindness from a grownup who barely knew her was a new concept.

Draft did, in fact know most of them. The females giggled and cooed at him, telling him how handsome he had become. They were especially friendly with the older phony. Yeah those were trips with his father that his mother would never find out about. But they were all good phonies, just enjoying things in adult ways. He understood them more now and tended to make sure he stayed out of trouble. But right now he had a responsibility to Ender.
He gave her a big hug back and waved as she began to walk off. He was about to leave when the young one asked him a question. Ah it was something she might not have expected. He walked to her and lowered his head down so he could look her in the eye. It was more respectful.
"Ender you don't have to do something for someone for them to be kind to you. Sometimes, it's just nice to do something for someone. I was taught that when I was your size by a very nice phony," he flipped his phonytail over his shoulder, "You should try it sometime. Just do something for somone because you know it will make them happy. You will be rewarded, but not in a way you think. The reward is seeing them smile. Seeing them happy. It's a nice warm feeling inside you."

Ender cocked her head and thought for a moment. "Huh. This is really the first time that anybody's done anything like this for me without... well, without being your sister. I don't really socialize much; usually, the ponies I'm nice to are Taquita because she's my friend and Miss Obi because she's teaching me alchemy. It's... it's really nice. I like it, this business of being nice to people. Usually, in books, when somebody's nice to somebody else, it's because there's something in it for them." Ender bit her lower lip for a moment. "I guess you can't learn everything there is to know in books, right?" The little ghost girl smiled up at the much larger phony- a wobbly smile, but a genuine one. "If I had a brother, I'd want him to be just like you. G'night, Draft!" she said, giving him another quick hug and a peck on the cheek, then dashing off into her house to get some sleep. She'd never forget what had happened tonight... and in the morning, she had some good deeds to do.
