She was not lost. Nope. Not at all. Just taking the scenic route, obviously. The long scenic route. That let her admire the island and its facilities. The shiny buildings. That she did not recognize other than, 'oh hey she was just in that one!'.

:: You are totally lost. ::

:: No I'm not! I'm just...taking us this way. To...uh, learn the island. ::

:: AKA- YOU ARE LOOOOST! :: Vashi fell into that deep snickering laughter she was learning to be him having a grand old time.

:: Oh shove it! ::

Okay she hadn't quite learned where everything was yet. And walking around to explore where this hallway lead or what might be in that room there had landed her turned around and not fully sure what the large building in front of her was. Her initial plan had been to see the training grounds again. Keyword being 'initial'. One thing or another had distracted her...and now Fini was turned around.

Maybe she should try retracing her steps? Again. It wasn't like the island itself was that big. Right?

:: Precious. Just admit you are lost and find some charming individual to ask for assistance. ::

No way! She wanted to figured this out on her own, damnit! Okay. What if she went back to the dorm building and just started all over again? That sounded like a good plan. Turning, she followed along in the direction she was sure - ninety-eight percent sure - was the way to the dorms.

And something caught her eye, drawing her attention towards it and not where she was walking...

Not until she crashed right into something, stumbled back, tripped and landed on her a**.

:: Someone, precious. Very smooth. I think that rates as a possible 7.6. :: Vashi snorted.

"Fuuuuck!"

Gale, for his part, had just spent the past hour arguing with the man at the portal by the lighthouse.

It was his own fault, he supposed, for starting in on how having one's feet up on a chair directly in front of the portal made it difficult for those coming out of the portal to actually get out without tripping. Clearly the hunter on duty had been idling away his time, and had dragged up a chair to prop his feet on - except he had, apparently, forgotten that there were people using the portal, which made Gale, coming out and tripping over him, sprawling flat on his face, very unhappy.

The hunter in question saw no issues with this. Clearly they did not see eye to eye.

Muttering under his breath to himself, Gale made his way across the Deus Ex Machina grounds with his hands tucked into his pockets, his coat ripped along the edges. He did not find himself in a particularly good mood, and Jinhai was taking a great advantage to this.

<< You're like a sulking two year old. >>

Kindly refrain from commenting on my attitude.

<< Nope. It's too easy. >>

A fat load of support you are.

<< I'm always supportive. >> remarked Jinhai breezily, and Gale snorted derisively, but he felt a little better anyway.

As he rounded the corner of a building on his way back to the dorms, his head down as he fiddled with his tie, Gale was not expecting anyone to be there. As it was, when - whatever it was - smacked directly into him, he stumbled backwards, his head spinning, and very nearly fell back onto his behind on the ground. Fortunately, he manged to stay upright - however, whatever - or rather, whomever - he had just crashed into was not so fortunate, since there was a rather loud curse.

Gale's eyes flickered downwards. It was one of the lambs, the new trainees whose name he could not recall. As it was, he stretched out a hand almost automatically to help her to her feet.

"Are you all right?"

:: I do believe, this will be one of your top most brilliant first impressions. :: Vashi chuckled.

"Oh piss off!" More chuckling and an awkward pause. "Err, not you, by the way." Fini added towards whoever she'd run into.

Okay, so maybe she could have left off the cursing out loud part. But it had just sort of slipped out! The whole 'talking in your mind' thing was something she was still working on getting used to. And she did feel a little better having said it aloud. Though the currently sitting on her butt after smacking into another person was not so pleasant. Hopefully said person wouldn't be too upset...

"I'll be fine." Fini sighed, glancing up to see who her 'victim' was. He looked familiar. But besides that, she had no idea who he was. Only that instead of glaring he was offering a hand to assist her up.

:: Gonna refuse his assistance, precious? So you can be a tough girlie? ::

She was tempted to do just that, but refrained, if only just to prove to Vashi she could accept assistance some of the time. And it might have been because she felt a little guilty for not watching where she was going. And being lost. The chuckling in her mind just made the grip she had on the boy's hand a little tighter.

"I'll live. Will take more than a little tumble to do me in." She paused at the amused whispers from Vashi in regards to that. "Sorry. Wasn't watching where I was going." Another pause as light blue eyes regarded the other with a curious look. "You look familiar. Have I run into you before?"

:: Oh look at you and your puns! ::

"T-That pun was so not intended!" Fini was starting to think Vashi was right. She might as well start digging a hole here soon. Or just shut her trap before anymore puns or awkward cursing directed at her weapon got her in trouble.

Considering that "Oh piss off" were the first words that Gale heard the new trainee say right after her screamed obscenity, needless to say he was slightly taken aback.

This is going to be one of THOSE trainees, isn't it, he thought at Jinhai, who made a small, amused sounding noise in his head. With a small internal sigh, and a you're no help to the dragon, Gale said "Er. Right." and gave the trainee in front of him a slightly bemused expression.

He wasn't sure if she would take his offered hand - especially since there was a long moment of hesitation while she clearly debated internally (in which Gale wondered whether or not she was having a conversation with her weapon, or not), but after a bit she reached up a hand and gripped his, Gale helping her back to her feet.

"It's quite all right..." he said, a little absently, and then said dryly "Yes, you have. My name is Gale Gentry. I was one of the senior hunters on duty when you awoke. If I recall correctly, your name was..."

Infinity.

"Infinity, wasn't it? How are you getting along so far?"

Maybe she should consider checking into a 'How To Greet Someone Without Cursing Loudly At Them - 101' class. Or something equivalent. Really, she normally wasn't this bad...oh alright maybe she was. Well, at least the cursing part was normal. But being rude to someone she just met?

....she wasn't winning this internal argument with herself. And Vashi's chortling wasn't helping.

:: Oh this is just priceless. Do continue, will you? I want to see how this whole conversation goes. ::

Fini refrained from rolling her eyes. Barely. Man, was this really going to take some getting used to. She didn't need to make this cute little guy suffer anymore confusion. Though once she was on her feet, she retrieved her hand fairly quickly, brushing off her jacket. And if she eyed him a little warily (and curiously) well. You couldn't blame her considering who slept in the room across from her own.

:: Did you really just call him short, precious? Oh do please say that one out loud! ::

Nice to see her weapon partner could keep up with her thoughts.

"Really, I have?" Fini's eyes widened slightly and a thoughtful look came across her features. Gale Gentry. That name very faintly rang a bell somewhere in her mind. "Oh, well. That would be why you looked sort of familiar. And yes. I'm Infinity." She offered a pleasant smile.

"Getting along just fine!" A dash of sarcasm. "Like a stroll through the woods. Tripping over hidden tree trunks, getting turned around, wondering what building this or that is..." A pause as she crossed her arms and eyed Gale. "Y'know, I think you're the first guy I've been able to talk with who is eye level with me." There was slight amusement in her tone at this.

:: Oh how I do so enjoy you, my dear Infinity. ::

The girl he had run into was perhaps an inch or two taller than he was, but it was clear that she was several years older. The way she carried herself, the confident tone to her voice, the look in her eyes; it all spoke of an age above his own, and Gale would have put her at late teens, early twenties.

Though he supposed having a record of the new trainees and their ages was sort of cheating.

Unsurprisingly, she didn't remember him, which Gale had mostly expected. It was not as if he thought all of the new trainees would remember his name, especially because of his height, and so when Infinity gave him a puzzled sort of glance, Gale merely slipped his hands back into his pockets and rocked back on his heels, waiting for her to figure it out.

Which she did, after a moment, though it was clear she still wasn't entirely sure. Gale nodded at her greeting and idly twisted the ring on his left index finger with his thumb.

<< She seems...interesting. >>

Well, as long as she doesn't mention my height -

<< You'll get over it. >>

- we'll be fine.

Her sarcasm was not missed, and Gale gave a small snort, shaking his head. "If you think this is bad," he said, with a glance around the grounds. "Then just wait until you actually start going on missions. That's fun."

And then she mentioned his height. Gale's expression quickly shifted into that of a mild scowl.

"I'm sure," he said, a little tightly. "Well, if you'll just excuse me, then..."

<< Overreactor. >>

Now that she had a link as to why he looked familiar, Fini could faintly recall him asking for her name after she'd woken up. At least she thought that had been him. Things were a little fuzzy in regards to then. Probably because she'd not paid that much attention to anything except having questions answered.

She glanced around the grounds as Gale spoke, lips curling up. So missions were that exciting, were they? "Oh really?" Fini snickered. "I just can't wait for that!"

Then his expression shifted and Fini just blinked at him.

:: Ooooh I think you upset him, precious! :: Vashi was way more delighted then he had a right to be.

:: I think you're right... ::

:: I change my earlier statement. I think this rates as an 8.9 as far as first impressions go! ::

Fini's lips twitched slightly at Vashi. Well, there probably wasn't much hope of making this go any smoother than it already had. Maybe she should just let him pout and stalk off so he could go sulk somewhere?

:: And thus you shall remain lost on top of doing such a fantastic job at making friends! ::

Dammit! The mutt was right (that thought was met with an indignant snort). She sighed and uncrossed her arms, stepping to lightly grab his arm. "Please, wait! I didn't mean it as an insult. It's actually kind of nice." Fini offered a small smile, releasing his arm. "Makes me feel like I'm on more equal terms then having to look up at someone that towers over me." This was said in honest truth.

:: By gawd, you can be charming?! ::

:: It's amazing what being a polite and handsome young man will get you. Unlike certain vârcolac's~ ::

He really did need to stop being so sensitive about his height, but Gale had not yet figured out how to quit getting rankled over every perceived slight. It was something he had to work on for himself - that much was clear enough, at least - but with Jinhai constantly nagging him, it wasn't getting any easier, and Gale was more irritated than resigned to work on his little issue.

Her fingers closed around his arm and Gale stopped abruptly, giving a small sigh as he pivoted around.

"It's not exactly an easy thing to be a senior hunter with my height," he said, still a bit bristled, but then as she gave her explanation he relaxed a little, his shoulders dropping as some of the tension released.

"Mmm, well, I guess that can't be helped, then," he murmured, and sighed.

"My apologies," Gale added, somewhat stiffly. "I'm not used to...well, never mind. At any rate, is there anything I can help you with? Anywhere you need to go? Training you'd like to do? I can spar with you, if need be."

Okay she felt slightly - a lot - guilty over bringing up his height now. Though some part of her was still quite amused by his reaction. But she was keeping that to herself. And Vashi. However Fini could admit that this...Gale. He didn't know her. Wouldn't know if she was being a b***h or just teasing. So it was best to play nice and watch her words.

"I imagine it's not." She murmured, more of that guilt eating at her. At least Vashi was getting a kick out of all this.

:: What a baby! Oh precious please tell me you don't go for this type? I will have a few things to say about that. ::

Fini imagined he would. A lot of things. Half of which would be a combination of bitching and whining. :: Shut up, Vashi! And for your information- ::

:: Don't say it. I don't want to know it. But I already do.... :: He grumped.

"Don't apologize. I shouldn't have said anything. Was my fault for not minding my words." She offered a faint smile, hands clasping behind her back like a little kid. Her expression shifted slightly, almost more embarrassed now. "Err, well...." Damnit! She was just gonna have to come clean that yes, she was totally lost. "I was...attempting to find my way to the training grounds. And then tried to find the dorms again." And got distracted thus becoming lost.

"Wait, you'd spar with me?" Her eyes widened a little. "Really? I mean...ah hell. It's been obvious I suck at first impressions. Yet you'd be willing to spar with me?" She eyed Gale, considering the offer. With her luck, she'd probably get her a** kicked. Since he was a senior hunter.

"And if it counts, you're taller than I am!" She added with a sly wink.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 7:27 pm

Gale raised his eyebrows, some of the stiffness in his shoulders easing. Fini's expression was shifting oddly - but Gale knew that face, the sudden quiet, the eyes narrowing slightly.

"Talking to your weapon, I suppose?" he asked her, a bit dryly, but there was a hint of amusement in his voice as well as he continued on to say "How is that feeling, by the way? A bit odd at first, I know, but once you get used to it, it's hard to imagine ever not having that voice in your head. And honestly, there's something to be said about having a weapon that you can communicate with. It makes it easier to control and figure out things. My weapon, Jinhai, for instance, is very good about keeping a level head in dire situations."

<< Why, Gale, I do believe that that's the nicest thing you've ever said about me. >>

Don't let it go to your head, Ginny.

With a small nod to her, Gale reached up a hand, pushing back some of the golden fringe of hair that had once again fallen over his eyes.

"I wouldn't mind sparring with you," he said, almost smiling, but not quite. "I never say no to a good fight, after all."

Fini blinked, expression shifting slightly again as she focused on Gale. And then laughed. "More like trying to figure out how to get him to shut up!" Her laughter died down fairly quickly, a thoughtful look appearing while she considered the question. No one else had asked her that yet. Not even herself, if she was being honest.

"Strange." She said automatically. That much she had at least thought before. "I think...I'm beginning to get used to it." She admitted. "I'm finding I kind of miss hearing Vashi bitching when he's being silent."

:: Why precious! Such sweetness will spoil me rotten. ::

:: You already are rotten. ::

She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, giving Gale a curious look. "I guess you learn to trust your weapon in that case." Fini murmured. It had been a long while since she trusted anyone that much.

:: You will learn to trust me. :: Vashi said in an oddly serious tone.

For a minute, she didn't respond, quietly bespeaking Vashi. Fini knew she needed practice. Lots of practice. Especially since she hadn't really gotten to fight using Vashi yet. And Vashi had to agree. He also (for once) felt that perhaps the whiny boy would be a good sparring partner. He'd said he was a senior hunter after all.

"I would...very much appreciate that, Gale." She said a little hesitantly. "I am not so stuck up and selfish enough to be unable to admit that I need practice. Vashi and I have not really worked much together on the battlefield yet." Fini offered him a small smile.

"Yes, well," said Gale, glancing pointedly down at the ring on his finger. "IT seems that's a problem with quite a bit of our weapons - getting them to shut up, I mean."

<< I object. >>

You would.

<< Child. >>

Snake.

"It does take a bit of getting used to, admittedly," said Gale with a nod. "I mean, it's like having a second person inhabit your body telling you what to do all the time. But once you get used to it...well, let's just say it comes in handy sometimes. And yes," he added, nodding again. "Trust is an important aspect. We can't get rid of our weapons, and they can't get rid of us, so you have to learn to work together, even if you don't like each other."

Smiling a bit, Gale gestured towards the training fields several yards away.

"Well, then?" he asked. "Shall we? It's early on, so we might as well start the training now."

Fini snickered, a hand reaching up to flick one of her earrings. "I'm so glad to hear it's not just me! Though I'd very much love hearing if anyone has discovered a way to achieve this yet..."

:: You wound me my precious. :: Vashi said dramatically.

:: If only~ ::

:: Don't be immature. Not after finally proving you can be an adult. ::

:: Oh hush up, mutt! ::

:: I hope he knocks you on your a**. And wish even more that I could caress it for you~ ::

"Or what they want to do to you." Fini muttered with another flick to an earring. "I really do hope I learn to trust him soon." She sighed, rubbing at an arm. Faintly, she wondered how long Gale had been a hunter? He looked young to her, though that didn't necessarily mean he was. Vashi seemed dead set on him being nothing more than a kid. But she thought that was him being an a**. How long does it take to get used to a voice in your head? Basically another presence in your body?

Following his gesture, Fini spotted what must be the training fields. And then was even more surprised when he suggested training now. Really? A feeling of excitement flittered through her and a big friendly smile appeared as she nodded in response, letting him lead the way.

"Y'know, you're pretty awesome." She added. "And you got it! I'm as ready as I'll ever be to start."

:: I'm upgrading my first hope. I hope he knocks you on your a** and you kick his a** back into diapers. :: The vârcolac grumbled, clearly jealous.

((Edited in to start battle with Kuro's permission~))
She followed until they reached the training grounds, Vashi grumbling the entire way. Or more like growling. Once there, and after a nod from her sparring partner, Fini summoned Vashi. He bitched only a little, but there was some bit of excitement in the way his brooding faltered. She glanced down at the sais, giving them a look.

"You behave! Let's try and take this seriously, alright? You and I both know we need the training!"

:: Ugh, fine! We'll fight the baby. ::

With a snort, Fini gave Gale a grin. "Alright, we're ready!" She called, hands tightening around the sais as she darted forward.

"Jinhai secretly loves me," said Gale, with a completely deadpan expression on his face.

There was an explosion of sputtering in his head, followed by a hacking laugh.

<< Gale Eugene Gentry, did you just make a joke? >>

Hush, you - and kindly stop making up ridiculous middle names that aren't mine.

<< Well, you won't tell me what yours is, so I have to just come up with my own. >>

Good grief.

Her compliment made his cheeks flush pink, mostly with surprise and pleasure, but partially with embarrassment. He was not used to having people compliment him, and he was always very awkward and uncertain when it came to accepting them.

"Er, thank you," he mumbled, and then said quickly "But yes, I don't mind at all. We can go ahead and spar."

Down on the training fields, he stood in front of Infinity, his arms outstretched in front of him. He had shed his uniform coat, pushing up the sleeves of the white dress shirt beneath so that they were folded around his elbows. The scarf had joined the coat on the ground.

Sais, huh? thought Gale, eyeing the metal weapon gleaming in the sunlight. I've never fought anyone with sais before.

She rushed forward, clearly unhesitating, and Gale threw out his left hand, the silver banded, rune encrusted ring on his left index finger glowing brightly. There was a flash of white light and a sharp clang of metal against metal, Gale spinning the sniper rifle up horizontally to block Fini's attack.

"Don't go easy on me," he told her seriously, a glint of what might have been amusement in his eyes.

She stared at him for a moment with a blank expression, blinking, and then her lips twitched up into a grin. "Can't say I really blame him~" Fini winked. Was she teasing him? Why yes. Yes she was. The playful maybe flirtatious type of teasing. Which turned into a pleasant and light laugh at catching sight of the blush that appeared on Gale's cheeks. He really was cute, wasn't he? She didn't want to say in that 'kid' sort of way. He was just cute.

:: Maybe if I don't screw up, we could be friends? ::

Vashi snorted rudely. :: You want to be friends with a toddler like him? ::

:: Be nice, Vashi. ::

"You're welcome." She said politely, a friendly and much more relaxed expression about her features. That brightened even more. "Thank you very much!"

Once at the training fields, Fini glanced at Gale, watching as he removed his coat and scarf. She'd done the same and stood patiently while awaiting him. Well, what appeared patiently anyways. There was a mixtures of nerves, excitement, and the growing 'hunger' that she determined was Vashi's own excitement for a battle. But she had to admit, if only to Vashi right now, that she didn't really know how to begin. Which was what led to the dart forward.

:: Relax, precious. I am fully confident you will kick this little- ::

:: Call him 'baby' one more time, Vashi and I won't speak to you for a whole day. :: It probably was considered a weak threat, but it did make the vârcolac huff.

:: -boy's a**. :: He grumbled.

She felt the heavy impact of sais against his weapon. A rifle? So that's what his weapon was? That meant she'd best not put too much space between them then, right? "Only if you promise me the same." Fini replied, a much more seriousness about her then before. Yes, she was going to give it her all. It was only fair to him. Speaking of which, she hooked leg around his and pulled. Her goal being to....sit on him?

There was a wheezing noise that sounded very much akin to a dying animal in her mind before something more like actual laughing danced around her mind.

:: J-Just...be sure you don't...flash him, Infinity love! You might...give the boy a heart attack! ::
