She stared at the entrance, feeling a chill race along her skin and raise gooseflesh along her arms. This was the place. The Cove. Where they had said she would get her weapon. And some 'bonding' thing. Which, she didn't fully understand, though she had a vague idea of it now. Sort of. So why was she hesitating on entering? Honestly, Infinity didn't know herself. Maybe it was the thought of failing. That somehow she would not pass this test. And that was just not possible. She could not - would not - fail in this. To fail here would mean...what? That she'd return to who she was before? The pieces of memory of another?
No. No she didn't want to return to that. True, she didn't fully remember that person. But it didn't matter. This was her now, fresh out of a pod thing and at Deus Ex.
Inhaling, letting the cool air fill her lungs and relax unwanted fried nerves, Infinity took one step. Then another. And another, shoulders squared and mind made up. It seemed that either she was hyper aware of the cold or her mind was just grasping at something to focus on as she descended the stairs. Her skin seemed to tingle, though at first she thought it was the chill. But as each step further down brought her closer to whatever her destination would be, the tingle seemed to increase. Another step. A slight increase in that tingle. And a soft 'hum' seemed to fill the air. Or maybe it was just in her mind?
Her movements were slow, not wanting to miss as step in the dark. There was a light flickering just up ahead. Once closer, she discovered a single torch lighting the, uh...room, she stood. Either they wanted those that came down here to trip and fall on their asses, or they'd spent too much money making everything up above all fancy that proper lighting down here was too expensive. She snorted at the thought...and her eyes widened as she saw what else was down here. All thoughts of 'proper' lighting were forgotten.
The wall before her dominated her entire attention. It was....Fini couldn't even find the right words to use. Scattered in all directions were strange tablets. No bigger than your average hand. And they were glowing.
That odd humming had grown 'louder' and more...something. It wasn't just a hum. Almost like something was quietly rumbling. Except, Fini didn't feel afraid of it. She was almost...drawn towards it. In fact she'd already taken a few steps towards the wall without realizing it. Pausing, she glanced at the tablets closest. There was something on them. Another step closer revealed glowing runes? That formed a shape. Reaching out, Fini lightly traced a finger along the design. Some sort of axe. Her finger tingled and an even odder hum flitted through her mind. But nothing more.
Except for the other hum-rumble to shift slightly. Almost like whatever made it was frustrated.
Moving along the wall curiously, she stopped at other tablets to trace the designs. It was the same with them as well. A brief sense of something. Then nothing. And she was positive it was frustration she felt now. Was it her own frustration?
One tablet caught her attention. It wasn't any different than the others. But something about it...she moved closer to it, crouching down as it was towards the bottom. It appeared the same as all the others. A tablet slightly larger than her own hand with glowing runes in the shape of what at first she thought were just swords. Sais. The word whispered through her mind. She didn't know what prompted it or where it came from. Just that it was confident and that was what the symbols were.
Brushing her fingers hesitantly across the design first, Fini felt a wave of satisfaction surround her. This was not the same as the other responses she had gotten. And that rumble in her mind sounded much like a very content canine. Her fingers curled along the edge of the tablet, giving it an experimental tug. It didn't budge. But that...presence prompted her to pull harder. So she tugged and yanked at the damn thing until, in a not so graceful manner, it popped out and she stumbled back to fall on her butt.
:: A canine? Really, precious? I am not a dog. ::
The voice was exasperated yet amused. And it was in her mind. There was a voice. In her mind! Which she barely had a chance to even register as the tablet she gripped glowed brighter, brighter, there was a flash of light. And then two swords lay in her lap.
:: Sais. They are sais. Not swords, per say. ::
Holy geezus there was a voice in her mind!
:: Yes. Glad you got that straight, finally, precious. ::
"What the ********?! How...what..." Was this real? Why was there a voice in her mind? A very masculine voice. One of those deep shadowy ones. Much more impressive then anything she could have imagined on her own.
:: Why thank you. :: He - it - said in a smug voice. :: I assure you, precious. I am very much 'male'. And quite enjoy being in a ladies lap. :: There was a sly undertone that slid into his voice.
In a ladies lap? Fini looked down at the weapons. What had that girl said? About that weapons? Was this...was that voice the weapon? How the hell could a weapon talk?!
:: Technically speaking. I am a vârcolac. :: He paused. :: Formerly anyways. But now? You are correct my dear. I am the weapon in your lap. Why not pick me up? Handle me with those lovely hands~ ::
She obliged his request, hands curling around each of the sais handles. They felt...right. Not too heavy and not too light. A perfect weight. Like an extension of her hand almost. The vârcolac gave her a pleased rumble.
:: Vashi. :: He informed her. :: You can call me Vashi. ::
"Vashi?" She tested the name out, letting it roll off her tongue. "I'm Infinity Wynaero."
:: I like precious better. ::
Fini snorted. "Oh you're going to be one of those guys, huh?" She carefully got to her feet, staring at each of the sais. They were beautiful to her. "What do I...we, do now?" She asked him curiously.
:: Depends on what you mean by 'one of those guys'. :: Definitely amused. ::And we move forward, of course! I chose you. You are mine, precious. We should clearly get to know one another on a more...private level. ::
That sounded like a fair enough plan. Though they were definitely going to have a talk about these hidden meanings she was catching. "Well then, Vashi. Let's start with this: what the <********> is a va-vaco...the thing you are?!" She started walking as she went, hearing a chuckle in her mind.
:: Vârcolac. Oh don't worry. I will tell you all about myself~ ::
This was clearly going to be more difficult then she originally thought. With a sigh, and a slight curl to her lips, Fini started back up the stairs as Vashi decided to play twenty questions with her instead. The beginnings of an amazing relationship, obviously.
