Keegan's ears perked up. There was only one creature that could ever make a moaning sound like that and it wasn't female.

Zombies.

He'd waited for this day for many years after watching EVERY SINGLE zombie movie EVER. He'd thought that, the best way to ever survive, was to give yourself one of three things to start with, and those things were food, weapons and transport. So, he saved, became a car dealer and bought himself an old school Hummer, modifying the engine to make it bigger and giving it the biggest bullbar he could find. Once he had his truck, he then bought a few 'ornamental' swords, sharpened them and trained with them, hoping that he was good enough to behead a zombie if needed. Finally, he stashed multiple weeks worth of canned food in his vehicle, under seats and in the back in a lock-box.

Running out of his office, car keys in hand, he stopped, seeing the zombies in the main roadway. He didn't need to see any more. He ran to his truck, turned over the engine and floored it out of the car lot, running over a couple of zombies in the process.

No idea who to go for first, he thought to himself.

God damn it Keegan had been right. If he was still alive, he would never shut up about this.

Leah started piling pharmaceuticals in her purse. The zombies were bashing on windows and doors dividing the pharmacy from the rest of the hospital, but this was the inner city. Those things were built to withstand riots. She had time. Plus, medicine was going to be worth a lot now.

A loud smack grabbed her attention. Leah glanced up at the horde gathering around. They must have gotten most of the hospital by now. For all the books she'd read, for all the movies she watched and imaginary scenarios she played out in her head, blind luck had saved her. Blind luck and a hangover. If she'd showed up on time for work, she would have been in when the first infected started showing up. And now she would be zmobie chow.

She stared at the zombies. How did the guy in 28 Days Later get out of an infected hospital? She recalled a lot of running. But the fire escape was outside the pharmacy and she was inside, surrounded by zombies looking at her like a lobster in a tank.

Holing up wasn't an option. This was a hospital: more zombies would be here soon. She needed a distraction and then she could make a break for it. Zombies weren't too fast and the fire exit wasn't that far away.

Her eyes landed on the PA system. Maybe. Oh god let this work.

Leah pressed the button for the OR. "Attention zombies," she said, her voice booming from the other side of the hospital. "Delicious human in here. You should leave that other girl alone and come eat me. I am very juicy and slow. Come on. Come and get it."

Several zombies turned and shuffled off, going to inspect the new noise. But there were still more than she wanted, still banging on the glass. Well ********. All this prep and it came down to speed, luck, and hoping there weren't any zombies out on the fire escape.

No point in waiting. Leah slung her backpack over her shoulder, steeling herself. Then, she flung open the back pharmacy door and ran.

It took the zombies a moment to stop banging on the clear glass and realize their prey had fled out another exit. But she could hear their moans behind her. Please don't let there be any between her and the door. Please please please.

And then there was the door. Leah shoved her way out onto the landing. She climbed up the ladder to the fourth floor: zombies can't climb, right? At least not very fast.

Leah took a moment to glance over the city. Massive traffic jams were already starting to form. There was a bike rack not too far from here; she could use that to get... somewhere. But where?

She pulled out her cellphone and dialed. Keegan. That crazy b*****d would know what to do.

Keegan's phone started buzzing a second before a polite ringtone started. Glancing at it, he read Leah's name before hitting the answer button and the loud speaker button.

"Hey Leah, so, how 'bout those zombies? Where you at, I'll come get you."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 27, 2012 2:35 am

"You know how you're always telling me I should quit my job?" Leah asked. "You were right. A hospital is the worst possible place to be during an outbreak. And now I'm outside the fire escape, with twelve thousand dollars worth of drugs in my backpack and no weapons except my mace. Maybe I can throw the can at them."

She looked down. No zombies were close by: they all seemed preoccupied with the buffet going on in the main streets. But the outside of the hospital was a bloodbath: the screams were making it difficult to focus.

"I'm on the fourth floor right now, but I can drop down to the alley, no problem," she said. Oh god. The fourth floor. The pediatrics ward. ********. No, don't think about that. Don't touch that. Just get out of here, then have a mental breakdown.

"It's a madhouse in front of the hospital," she said. "How close can you get without it becoming a suicide mission?"

Keegan grinned. In all his scenarios with zombies, the hospital was the worst place to be. Not only was there the dead and dying already there, but it was usually packed with fresh bodies.

"I know the back way in that the garbage trucks take. Hope there's none there right now. Stay on the phone and let me know if I need to change anything."

Revving the engine a little, he floored it through a set of red lights, unconcerned about potential traffic. Swinging wide, he went around one corner and into a side street before slowing down and aiming for the alleyway that would take him to Leah.

There was a garbage truck, but it was parked next to the alleyway and not moving. He breathed a sigh of relief and gunned it down the alley, trying not to hit the sides.

It was times like this Leah regretted giving up parkour.

She clipped her phone to her belt, still on speaker. At least if she fell to her death, she'd be able to curse Keegan one last time.

Deep breath. And... go.

Leah slid down the exterior of the fire escape, then pushed off into the branches of a nearby tree. For a moment she flailed through the foilage before catching onto a sturdy branch. After taking a moment to pluck bark out of her bleeding palms, Leah leapt onto the roof of a parked ambulance, landing almost elegantly.

"I really wish someone had seen that," she muttered, glancing up at her old perch. Wiping her bloody hands on her jeans, she jumped over the fence and landed in a fresh pile of garbage. <********," she snarled. She popped up out of the garbage bin, just in time to see Keegan screech around the corner.

"Figures."

Keegan grinned at Leah as he pulled up next to the dumpster.

"Well," he said as his electric windows went down, "I suppose that's one way to get into the alleyway. At least the food might help to put the zombies off your scent."

As he finished, he glanced forward, noting the fact that the zombies had piled into the alley and were going to make it hard for him to get out. As Leah got into the car next to him, he put the car into reverse and floored it, looking over his shoulder to see where he was going. Driving around a corner faster than he would normally in reverse, he was faintly surprised to see a pair of zombies a split second before his hummer rolled over them, then out into the street.

"Okay, so, where to now?"

"My house," Leah said, plucking an orange peel out of her hair. "I have some water, canned food, my gun, and we need to get my dog."

It occurred to Leah that her first priority might have been to save her housemates rather than her dog, but she immediately dismissed that idea. Those bitches were always drinking her orange juice and leaving their dishes in the sink. Freya on the other hand, was always happy to see her and never once shat on the rug. Leah couldn't say the same for Jamie and Harper.

Maybe if she was lucky, she could shoot the bitches personally.

"Done," Keegan replied with a nod. Putting the car into first, he accelerated, heading towards Leah's house.

Without thinking too much, he reached behind him, grabbed a can of pringles and popped the lid, tilting the container so he got one without taking his other hand from the wheel. He then held it out for Leah, taking a corner at the same time.

As for her dog, he didn't mind Freya. She'd been in his car before and didn't seem to mind and didn't crap on the seats or floor, so, as long as she repeated the performance, he would be happy to let Freya have the back of his car.

Lilith had been watching TV in her inner-city apartment when the screams had started. Now personally she was used to screams, but not in the middle of the day in a safe zone. Realising that something big had to be up she flicked over to a news channel to get a black screen. Turing off the TV she heading out onto her balcony to see everyone around her panicking and running around like chickens with their heads cut of.

“Hey You! What the h**l is going on?” Lilith yelled down to a man heading towards his car.

“It's the damn Zombie Apocalypse that's what!” He yelled back before jumping into his car an attempting to get through the traffic.

'F**king hell! It would have to happen when I'm here rather than at my country house with my whole collection of weapons'. Lilith wasn't surprised that it had happened -the world powers had been messing with biological warfare for years, it was bound to happen sooner or later. She grabbed her kit bag and begun throwing anything she though shed need into it.

A few minuets later she was entirely in combat gear- two hand guns in leg holsters, combat knife attached to her belt with her sniper rifle and ammo stored on her back .Standing next to her kit bag she called the one man she knew would be as prepared as her.

“Keegan, hows the weather down your way?”

Keegan's phone buzzed and he repeated his earlier glance at the phone, mash the answer and loud speaker buttons. He then tossed the phone into Leah's lap.

“Keegan, hows the weather down your way?”

Keegan laughed as he roared through the streets towards Leah's place. "Aw yeah, think it's about to rain cats and dogs. I'm about a minute from Leah's place, picking up supplies. Need a lift anywhere?"

As he talked, he took a corner hard enough to send a couple of loose items sliding around the back. Slowing down a little, he turned another corner into the street Leah lived in. He didn't see any signs of movement, but then, as far as he knew, all her neighbours would be at work right now.

"If you're in the area a lift would be nice, it's a little chilly to walk."

Lilith smiled as she talked to Keegan, it was always fun to converse with people as crazy as her. Pausing a moment to shot the zombie attempting to climb the stairs towards her flat she then continued.

"Sarge allways told me to stick with a team in a hot zone, so you need a pyro or sniper? I'll even only charge you half rates."

"I'll make this fast," Leah said, still munching on his pringles. Delicious. Strange how chips somehow made the whole zombie apocalypse seem more manageable.

She raised her eyebrows at Lilith. Half rates? If she was going to start talking about payment she was going to withhold the morphine when she inevitably got her giant a** shot.

She looked over the mini arsenal Keegan had in the car. Better to wait and grab her own shotgun. She wasn't that handy with a gun, but if she had to shoot it would be better if it was a gun she was familiar with, and if she didn't have to aim much. Hopefully.

When Keegan rolled up to her place she plunged out of the car. "Be right back!" she yelled, charging through her front door. She'd like help loading up the canned goods, but it would probably be better to keep the motor running, in case a hoard showed up.

Alright. Emergency backpack in the closet. Her own shotgun. Water first, solar powered water purification system, first aid kits, and the dog. Freya was sleeping peacefully on her bed, slobbering all over the place.

"Come on mutt," she said, snapping her fingers. "No sleeping through the zombie apocalypse." The giant Bernese Mountain dog rose up and came bounding off the bed, nearly knocking her over with her slobbery greeting.

She brought out the first load, dumping it into the car. Now she just needed the box of canned food. She hadn't had a year's supply of canned food since she left the Mormon church, but she still had some cans left over. They could always raid a better mormon's house, she knew a couple places.

Leah ran back into the house. Canned goods would be in the pantry, if her fat roommates hadn't eaten them all. It occurred to her, right as she flung the door open, that Freya was growling.

She turned around. Harper, that fat b***h, was glowering at her. Her face was more bloated than usual, and an odd shade of purple. Zombie. Freya snarled. Oh balls. She would have to train the dog not to bite zombies before something bad happened.

She pulled out her shotgun and blasted Harper in her fat fat face. Too late she remembered she should really brace herself.

The butt of the gun slammed into her ribs and everything was pain. Her head snapped back. Oh ******** everything hurt. Everything hurt a lot. It hurt to breathe and her painkillers were in the car.

She forced herself back into the situation. There was a zombie in front of her and she had to shoot before her dog bit the fat b***h and became infected. The bastards weren't getting Freya.

Ignoring the worrisome pain in her ribs Freya positioned the shotgun, properly this time. Harper was staggering across the room, looking at her like she was a jelly donut. "********. You," Leah snarled, then pulled the trigger.

Harper's head exploded into chunks, splattering across the walls and Leah's clothes. She had expected more of a sense of satisfaction from her first kill, especially since it was someone she hated, but she felt nothing. Just a weird, sick emptiness. And that horrible pain in her chest. ********, she'd probably bruised a rib. It was going to be at least a week before she'd be able to breathe without pain.

She grabbed the canned goods and made her way back to the car. "Piece of cake," she wheezed, sitting down next to her dog.

Chuckling as Leah got out of the car, Keegan continued talking to Lilith.

"If you can get out of the city or at least into a not crowded area, that might help, but I'll see what I can do for you." He picked up his phone from where Leah put it. "I think I know a way in. Hold tight. Ciao."

Watching the house, he saw and suspected nothing until he heard Leah's shotgun go off once, twice. He was pulling out one of his swords from under his seat and opening the door as Leah came back out, splattered in zombie bits.

Pushing the back door open for her and Freya, he slid his weapon back under the seat.

"Which b***h was that?" he asked as he turned the car around and floored it towards Lilith's place.

"Hold tight, hold tight" muttering under her breath lilith dragged the couch over to block the door and started to make a gauntlet for the zombies to run through.

Set up in the bedroom a the back of the flat where she had a clean line of site right through to the front door, she set up her rifle and settled down to wait for Keegan.

As a zombie broke through the door she settled herself and took a shot. The slug hit the zombie in the face and thunked into the wall as the once business man slumpted to the floor right in the doorway.
