Though it might be nice to have a thread just for talking about PTSD and associated problems and coping strategies. I have PTSD and possible CPTSD from a few things. I won't get into detail because I don't want the first post to be triggering, but for everyone else, just maybe put a trigger warning at the top of the post if you feel it's appropriate?

I have PTSD and OCD. A lot of times, it's difficult to tell whether my anxiety/intrusive thoughts come from the PTSD or OCD. A lot of times my obtrusive thoughts resemble my flashbacks(Whited out because of a trigger.) to the emotional abuse and abandonment relating to my childhood or are related to my childhood in some way. It was also in childhood that my intrusive thoughts and compulsions for OCD started. They were mostly about killing or seeing dead things. A lot of times, I would think about killing my parents, especially my father who was abusive and left the family without warning.
Sometimes, I have to explain that I avoid certain people who remind me of my father, and when I say that I have PTSD, I often get the response that I have never served in the military and that I can't possibly have it. That bothers me because military personnel aren't the only people who have PTSD. I come up against that a lot. Even ac lose family member refused to believe that I had both OCD and PTSD (as diagnosed by my psychiatrist), because I had never been involved in the military.
