I have invited Bolt and Aya Brea to have the G.P.D. hook up with the Gaian government. If it's alright with you Tanasha, I will PM them again ^_^

Oh, and I have opened contact with the sig maker I told you about. As soon as we get the vagueries or specifics of a design down, I can tell her we're ready. And I can still fund the sig through my own gold 3nodding

WDM: I don't see the point of having a president, we don't need to confuse people into thinking we have a king. We can have something of a prime minister tho - somebody to decide what to do when whatever group we have can't meet fast enough. (Any system works well enough as long as you can account for corruption. Acting when you have a conflict of intrest, for instance.)

OoC: Ya'll have someone writing the Constitution yet? I'd actually like a position here to contribute to things running smoothly. Not as Viper of course, but from this standpoint an organized opposition is... so much more fun. Anyway, in addition to being a study of Law I can do legal stuff as well. My alt, Nicoli, is at least making an attempt at working cases for prisoners. It doesn't work all that well though. stare

This has a major problem - anybody not in a guild is a second-class citizen, and the person with the most affiliations has the most power.

I say that the guilds and the unaffiliated people get an equal number of representatives per-person, and they're voted on dutch auction style.

Each citizen gets as many votes as there are senators, and they can be applied to candidates however they like - Casting three votes for one candidate and seven against another, for example. Senators are assigned slots based on how many votes they got, from highest to lowest. In the event of the lowest-ranked slot being tied so that one of the candidates will not get a slot, they both share one vote and the same seat (Naturally, they do get an extra physical chair to sit in). In any givin election, 1/4th of the seats are up for grabs (Equal ratio between the guilds and general populace.) Anybody is allowed on the ballot - even criminals on death row are allowed to fill-out the paperwork and become a candidate(1).

The millitaries are also givin spots on the senate, going by the same ratios as the civilians and guilds. However, these are not voted on, but rather givin in decending rank between the various branches. The seat can be delegated to a lower-ranked officer in the same organization at any time and for any durration (So if, for example, Tippmann had to attend a field test, then he could order a subordinate to attend in his stead. It's expected that ranking members of an organization are too busy with thier primary duties to attend regularly, and so will appoint stand-ins to permanently fill thier spots.)

(1)If somebody on death row chooses to become a candidate, they are givin a stay of sentance until they either lose or leave office. They still remain in jail for thier term, excepting cases where they are required to physically be there.

OoC: True, but you also have to consider things like psychics, sensing motives, empaths, and other related subjects and how they would impede on a criminal's 4th Amendment rights or would help to prove their guilt.

Another thing to look at would be bail, and how exactly are you going to deal with criminals who have done things that would constitute a life sentence? Forget life sentencing, no Gaia RPing criminal is going to sit around for even 6 months waiting for their character to go on probation. I'm dealing with a guy who's been in jail for two months and says he is ready to get out after shooting at officers and blowing up buildings and the like.

There are all sorts of legal issues that pop up when melding real life politics with fantasy and science fiction. I mean, anywhere that a police station is armed with it's own space fleet and enough weaponry to take a city would have major problems IRL but is completely necessary here in Gaia.

It's these sort of things that I look at when I see a Gaian Government. And I'd like to join, really, but because my main account is a villain (#1 Most Wanted oh yeah! mrgreen ) I think I'll leave it up to you if you want one of my alts working for you.
