The scaled mare glided gracefully out of the clouds. Her burning red eyes taking in the wide expanse of water. Her hooves came to rest on a small hill of sand. Zosime watched the crashing waves of the ocean. Her crest of feathers came up as she remembered another place like this. Tail twitching the mare moved delicately down the shifting sand to the waves. She lowered her head to let some water splash across her tongue. Yes, it was salty. Zo shook her head and looked up feeling a breeze across her shoulders.A brilliant colored hawk swooped down and circled one then floated out over the water. His wings holding him just above the splashing water. "Now what do you plan?" It was clear to him that the water went on and on, there was no way he and Zo could fly across. The mare in question laughed. "We could stay here for the night. It has been a long day of flying. I believe dinner and sleep are in order."

With her parents distracted by her brothers at the moment Aquitaine found herself with a little bit of alone time. So the foal had made her way down the beach looking for any shells. Often she would find many shells but those with especially interesting colors were the ones she would bring home to show her parents and brothers. With her attention turned to the sand Aquitaine didn't at first notice the strange looking mare. It was the voices in the distance that had caught her attention. And that was when she looked up to see the mare with the hawk nearby. Her hooves instantly came to a stop. Visitors didn't exactly come here all that often. In fact this was the first Soquili that wasn't family that she had seen along the beach. Eyes roamed over the mares features, the scales on her body, large leathery wings, feathers instead of mane and those incredible large fangs. Perhaps she should have turned and ran back home, Aquitaine had after all been previously told about Kalona and this mare fit the description quite a bit.
But she was curious. This mare didn't look to be a regular Kalona. Taking a few steps closer, though she still remained at a safe distance, Aquitaine overcame any fear she might be feeling right now and put on a friendly smile. "Hello." Her parents would be so mad and worried if she got in trouble with this mare, but this was a chance she had decided upon taking.

"Oh." Zosime looked at the little filly that had appeared out of no where. She blinked for a moment, watching the young filly. "Hello to you too." The black mare greeted the foal then her eyes were drawn behind her. "Kalril don't!" She called out just as the hawk buzzed over the filly before coming to perch on one of her wings.
Zo sighed, "please pardon him. He likes to make an impression." She gave the innocent looking bird a one eyed, albeit humorous, glare. "His name is Kalril, and I'm Zosime. What's yours?"
The hawk looked haughtily down at her from his perch on the mare's wing. He. Was. Awesome. She should know that.

Perhaps strangers weren't so bad after all. The mare had greeted her nicely, even if she looked somewhat scary and then it all changed. She yelled out and Aquitaine instinctively ducked as a colorful hawk swooped over her head. Now she was second guessing herself. The world she knew and what she was experiencing now were too totally different things. With a glance over her shoulder Aquitaine looked down the beach to where her family called home but she couldn't see her parents at the moment. With a deep breath Aquitaine turned her attention back to the mare, probably wasn't the safest or smartest thing to look away like that but she had.
"Well...he certainly made an impression." It wasn't a good one but Aquitaine wasn't about to say that. She had been taught to always be nice and never to insult anyone, and so she would not start today. Her slender tail waved behind her for a moment. "Zosime," She repeated the mares name and then eyed the hawk, "and Kalril. I'm Aquitaine." She paused for a moment, considering her next words, there was a question she wanted to ask but couldn't figure out the right way to word it wouldn't sounding a bit offensive. "Umm...what are you?" She finally just asked the question the only way it could be asked and hoped the mare wouldn't take it the wrong way.

Zosime let out a relieved sigh as the little filly safely ducked the hawk. She couldn't understand why he continued to do that. Well maybe she had an idea. The black mare gave as friendly a smile to her new acquaintance as she could. She caught Kalril's satisfied flick of his wings when the filly said he'd made an impression from the corner of her eye. "Thank you," she chuckled softly.
"A pleasure to meet you Aquitaine." She tilted her head as the filly's question. That wasn't an unfamiliar question. "I'm a Wind Serpent." She politely spread her wings for examination and her long scaled tail twitched back and forth. "If you don't mind my asking. What is a little one like you doing out here? Do you have family?" Zo couldn't hide the hint of wistfulness from her voice.
Kalril fluffed up his feathers and clacked his sharp beak. "Really Zo. More likely than not the girl has parents nearby, and a scream will bring them running."

Aquitaine couldn't help but tip her head to the side at this information. A Wind Serpent? What was a Wind Serpent? Her father and mother had told her of the many breeds that resided in these lands, though nearly all of them she had never actually seen, but they had made no mention of a Wind Serpent. Was it a breed her parents didn't know about? Or just hadn't gotten the chance to tell her of? Well there was no time like now to find out just what a Wind Serpent was. "I've...never heard of a Wind Serpent before. Are you new?" The question hadn't entirely been worded the way she had wanted it to be, she had meant to ask if Zosime was new to the lands. Ah well, surely the mare would understand and if she didn't then she could always after for clarification.
The filly gave her head a nod. "My family lives down the beach. I was looking for shells." She glanced over her shoulder to indicate where her family lived, it wasn't all that far away, but her parents were not visible at the moment, yet she knew they were out there probably watching but giving their daughter some space. They would come if needed.

Zo looked out over the waves. She was giving herself time to think. "Well I am still young, and it hasn't been very long since I left the valley I called home. To be honest, I've only seen one other like me. I tried to start a herd which is how I met her. Though it didn't work out." It still hurt. That failure. Perhaps someday she'd be ready to try again.
"Ah, perhaps I could help you look. If you don't mind the company." The black mare looked down at the filly with a slight smile.

Aquitaine nodded her head thoughtfully at Zo's words. The mare had only ever seen one other of her kind. It's no wonder Aquitaine or her parents had never heard of such a breed. In a way, she could relate to this mare even more now. After all she and her brothers looked almost nothing like their parents. Oh there were similarities, but as color and some unicorn traits but that is where it ended, everything else was different. "There aren't any that look like me or my brothers." She admitted, though her gaze had turned to the ocean. "Out parents are pure unicorns but we don't really look like them." It was a challenge, especially since Aquitaine craved to be like her mother in as many ways as possible.
Her gaze returned to the larger mare. "But that's okay, father says it's good to be different." Her differences made her who she was and Aquitaine really wouldn't have it any other way. The mares next words made Aquitaine bob her head enthusiastically. "I'd love some help looking for them! They can be just about anywhere since the waves move them around a lot."

Zosime twitched her feathers. It surprised her when the filly admitted she and her siblings looked nothing like their parents. The mare took a step closer and put her nose on the filly's shoulder. Her voice was soft, "what matters is that you have each other. Cherish your family. I grew up without anyone." Zo took a step back. "Do not let your appearance draw a line between you and your parents."
She gave an amused chuckle, "I have to agree with him." Her head feathers perked up at her exuberant exceptance of her help. "Well then we can comb the beach together, and hopefully find some pretty ones." Zo moved along the beach as her eyes scanned the sand grains before her.

The mares words, her tone of voice Aquitaine took it to heart. The blue filly gave a nod of her head. She did cherish her family and planned to do so always. She knew that individuals changed and some days her brothers annoyed her, but even when they were acting silly and bugging her she still loved them dearly. Before Zosime took her step back Aquitaine sneaked in a quick nuzzle on the mare. She couldn't imagine what it would be like to grow up without a family. "I will cherish them." She promised with another not of her head. "And I won't let anything come between me and them."
Her eyes lite up a bit. "Alright. I bet we can find a lot more if we both look for them. Sometimes they can be hard to see if they get covered by sand." Aquitaine started to look along the beach as well, fanning out a bit from Zosime so they could cover more ground and have a better chance at finding some.

Zo was pleased with the affection the little filly showed her. She really was cute. The dark mare could only hope that one day she might have foals of her own running around. Right now she couldn't think about that. "I am glad to hear that." She smiled fondly before giving an eager prance.
"Onward! We'll find the best this beach has to offer." Zo watched where Aquitaine was looking then moved a bit further away. Her eyes scanned the sands for the shells. A couple of times she prodded with her hoof to check a find, but they were disappointments.

Aquitaine knew this section of the beach fairly well so she was certain that finding shells wouldn't be too much of a challenge. Of course with the sand always shifting in the waves and tide what one moment could be a treasure trove of shells would soon be nothing but sand. With her head lowered Aquitaine concentrated on the sand, looking for any hint of something hidden beneath. At one point she did see something jutting out of the sand ahead but after a closer inspection it turned out to be a rock polished smooth by the waves over time. It was a start but she really wanted to find some shells, she would give one to Zosime when she did, as a token of their new friendship, and of course she would need to bring some back to her family and keep one for herself as well if there were enough to go around.
Glancing over at the large mare Aquitaine smiled. So far it looked like Zosime hadn't found any shells either. Something up ahead in the sand caught her attention. "Hey what's that?" Aquitaine asked as she trotted forward to investigate. The object was right where the waves were lapping up onto the sand making it hard to tell what it was. Carefully she dug around a bit with her hoof but each time a section of the object was revealed a wave would come and bury it in sand once more. "This one might require both of us." She called over to Zosime, Aquitaine was determined to find out what this buried treasure was.

She heard the call and came trotting over. There was an object that had caught Aquitaine's attention. Zosime immediantly saw the problem with the waves. "I'm here to help." She studied it a moment then carefully laid herself down to block the incoming waves with her body. "Work quickly. I won't be able to hold them for long." She could feel the waves pushing against her back and wing. From where she was laying, Zo delicately used a fang to help with some of the digging, but leaving most of it to Aquitaine.

Aquitaine was glad to see Zosime was able to quickly figure out a solution to the problem, using her larger body to temporarily block the waves allowing them to dig the object out without it getting buried again. Not wasting any time the filly began to dig with her hooves, careful not to kick Zosime as the mare used her long fangs to help dig. Certainly it was working as the mares body kept the water and sand at bay, but she could see the waves were slowly creeping around Zosime's body so they had to hurry. "I think I can get it." She said taking another clump of sand away with hoof before reaching down and grabbing the object with her teeth. It wasn't completely unburied so she had to give it a tug. For a second nothing happened then the object slipped out from the sand, causing Aquitaine to stumble back a few steps.
Now it was time to see just what they had found. She had been so busy digging that Aquitaine hadn't taken to time to look at what she was digging up. Setting it down she looked up at Zosime with a smile. "We did it!" She was so glad the mare was here, had Zosime not been here then Aquitaine would not have been able to dig up the item. Speaking of which, Aquitaine's gaze lowers to look at just what they had found. It was a shell, a huge one. The conch shell was still filled with sand from being buried. She had seen one of these before, father had told her that they were not as easily found on the beach as the smaller shells. "It's a conch shell." Aquitaine said with delight and then looked up at the mare. "I'd like you to have it, so you can remember me."
