Macalania moved through the forest, pressing her ear against the trunks of trees; bending to whisper to flowers and the ground. This was her domain; the area assigned to her by Yggdrasil. She was to protect, restore and preserve the life here. A satchel hung at her side, filled with balms, salves and potions; all used in helping sick plants. Spying a young tree with long scratches down its trunk, she took a balm from her bag and rubbed a small amount on the scratches. This would strengthen the bark and help it heal.
The bottles filled with water she poured on every tree she passed. This water was the cleanest water found and it had been boiled with bark from the tree on her back. It helped the growing process and cured some illnesses plants could catch. Sunlight streaming through breaks in the canopy bounced off of the crystals on her tree; the light scattering in all directions, landing in pinpoints. It was like seeing stars during the day. Macalania always had light wherever she was; no matter how dark it was. For this she was thankful.
It was noon know and she was tired from her work. A few more hours and she could leave to go home. But, for now, she needed a rest. Sitting under a large birch, she pulled one of Yggdrasil's berries from her satchel and nibbled on it slowly. The juices quenched her thirst almost instantly. She enjoyed the sweetness of the berries but could never eat as many as others did. She took a seperate bottle of water from her satchel and took a small sip. It cooled her down and she released a sigh of relief.
It was times like these that Macalania was her happiest. The voice did not echo in the back of her mind. She was at peace. In her own world; doing what she loved best. What she was most passionate about. She came here as often as she could. The longer she stayed, the longer she stayed locked away. Each day added another restraint for her to break through. However, Macalania did not get careless. She knew that it didn't take a lot for the binds to break.
Eyes glancing up at the sky, she wondered if she would ever have eternal peace. Eternal silence in her mind. She wondered if she would ever be able to let her emotions run wild without fearing the consequences. What a wonderful world that would be.

Attacus had changed his normal routine of sleeping during the day. He had grown curious of what the world was like when the sun was out. This was his third day of exploring his home in the daylight. He had found that everything was much more colorful and warm. He saw many things that he never knew existed. Lots of birds seemed to come and go all of the time and other creatures and insects. It was amazing to him how much life existed on both sides of the life.
Attacus found himself gazing at a butterfly on a flower. He had never seen one before. Wow it's wings look a bit like mine. He was determined to follow it. So he shrank himself down to it's size and landed on the flower next to it. At that the butterfly took flight. Attacus flittered after it.
The butterfly eventually landed again on a dark tree with crystals on it. This was even a more spectacular thing than the butterfly. He landed on the tree next to a crystal which was about the same size as he was. The light that shone from it held him in a sort of trance.
"Wow, who knew such wonders existed," He said aloud to himself still entranced by the flickering lights of the tree.

Macalania as a buttefly flittered towards her. She froze, not wanting to scare it off and smiled as it landed on one of her branches. Such delicate wings. She watched as they flickered open and s**t. How marvelous it must be to be able to fly wherever you please.
Looking up at the butterfly again, Macalania was pleased to see another had arrived. Peeking a little closer she gasped in surprised, scaring away the first butterfly that had arrived. The second wasn't a butterfly at all. While it had wings; it also had the body of a horse like she. How.. strange.
It was even stranger when it spoke. She could barely make out the words, straining her ears. "I.. I'm sorry. I can't hear you," she managed to stammer out, eying the creature curiously. How marvelous he seemed even though he was so small. She wondered what he was. A butterfly? A fairy? She definitely wanted to find out.

Attacus was snapped out of his trance by a voice. Did the tree just talk to him? This was becoming even stranger now. He knew trees had a spirit in them but he never thought that he could talk to them. Maybe he was becoming more in tune with nature, now that he could see it's light and dark.
He wondered if the tree was having difficulty hearing him because of his size. He flew down to the ground and turned back to his normal size. He turned around to face the tree and was astonished to find a beautiful mare standing in front of him. She looked like a shadow in the light, but her crystals sparkled with the sunlight reflecting off of them, revealing her graceful features.
"You are the tree? You are very beautiful in many ways. I have never seen a Soquili with a tree attached to them before. I didn't mean to cause any distress. I was just admiring your crystals when you spoke." At this Attacus gave a small bow, bending his front legs slightly."

Macalania eyed the butterfly curiously when he flew to the ground. She was certain it'd be harder to hear him from down there. What was he doing? Her eyes widened as he grew; a full grown male taller than she. What kind of magic was this? She'd never seen anyone do that before. It would come in handy; that was certain. She felt a little envious of this creature. Wings to fly and able to change his size at will. How magical he was.
Macalania bowed her head in response to his bow. "There's a few that I know of; perhaps there are more; I'm not too certain," she smiled. Macalania had only met one other; Yggdrasil and she'd heard of the other; Voodoo. There was a rumor going around of a fourth; a female. But Macalania had not met her.
"My name is Macalania," she said, smiling up at the stallion.

Attacus was glad the mare didn't seem startled by him and pleased by the respect she paid towards him in returning the bow. "Macalania, what a lovely name. My name is Attacus Loch, but you may call me Attacus. There are others like you?" He was intrigued. "I have to admit when you first spoke I thought it was the spirit of the tree speaking to me." He was worried she may think that sounded a little absurd, but than again there was something about her that made him say this.
He stood looking at her, taking in all of her form. She was a cerynei with the hooves and small antlers. The tree seemed to wrap around her body and from it grew the crystals. On her back the tree seemed to hold and protect a golden pearl. She did seem to be as precious, beautiful, and rare as a pearl. She adorned herself with silver and crystal jewelry. But the thing that stood out most to him after he took all of this in, was the crystals the clung to her beneath her eyes. Like frozen tear drops, hinting at a sadness inside of her.

Macalania couldn't help but chuckle when Attacus mentioned what he thought she was. "Some believe me to be the reincarnation of a forest that existed long ago." She tested his name in her mind; it was interesting and not a name she was used to. "A pleasure to meet you, Attacus."
Now that formalities had been made, Macalania looked over the stallion more carefully. He really was quite marvelous, wings aside. His hair was made of leaves and moved down to vines that wrapped around his legs. Eyes returning to his head, she eyed.. sticks? Antlers? She wasn't quite sure, but they seemed fuzzy and soft at the same time. A horn protruded from the middle of his head and she wondered if perhaps he had unicorn blood in him.
"I must admit, your wings make me envious," she smiled. "Even if I had wings, I could not fly with my tree. It must be a marvelous feeling."

Attacus still being a bit naive didn't quite understand what the mare meant. "Reincarnation? I'm sorry that is not a word I am familiar with, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. It seems a great honor to be mistaken as a forest spirit." He said this trying not to show his ignorance.
At the mention of his wings Attacus fluttered them a bit and some shimmering dust came off of them. "I actually don't fly much in this form. The forest where I live is pretty dense, not too good for flying. But I do love to shrink down and fly around it's like living in another world. Quite enjoyable...I wish I could show you." He tried to be as humble as he could about it.
Attacus looked at her tree again. "Your tree does look heavy. My mother would tell me that I would not be able to fly far because my bones are too heavy, but I have yet to test how far and how long I can fly."
Attacus looked for a way to change the subject, he did not like the thought of having something others did not. "It seems your crystals would be useful in helping light your way through dark places and at night?"

Macalania shook her head. "No matter, it's not important, just a story." She smiled sweetly at the stallion, enjoying the fact that he was able to speak about things other than the tree on her back. It wasn't something that happened quite often and she was glad for the break from the norm.
Macalania let out a gasp of awe as she watched the dust drop from his wings. She reached a hoof out, collecting some on it and tilted it this way and that, watching it shimmer magnificently. It was beautiful. "I'm sure you'll be able to find out one day. Maybe avoid flying over water until you do." She nodded thoughfully. That would be disastrous. Macalania avoided water, except for small streams and rivers. Anything that had water past her knees she walked around, unable to manouver the strong currents with the weight on ther back.
Looking up at her tree and the glow her crystals emitted, she nodded. "Comes in handy, since I spend a lot of nights here, moving around to tend to the life that comes out at night." She eyed him curiously. "I haven't seen any other soquili in this forest besides myself - we thought it was uninhabited and was free to roam through and work on. If this is your land please forgive me, I'm just trying to help." She bowed her head low, not wanting to offend.

Attacus wanted to know more about this mare, she seemed to know about things he never thought of. "Perhaps you can share the story with me other time." He liked to stay hopeful that he would meet everyone he met again.
He watched as she collected some of his dust and watched it shimmer in his hand, realizing that something so common to him was actually quite pretty, especially with her crystals light glinting of it. "I'm sure I will, though I prefer to stay in the forest," Attacus shifted his weight a little while he thought of leaving the comfort and safety of the forest.
"I actually live more north in the Big Oak Groove, with the oldest trees and where the forest is quite dense. I have just recently ventured this way to explore more of the surroundings, to learn about these forests as well as learn more about the daytime. I have met a few others but most are just passing through. I've met one other family that lives where I do, but I think everyone is welcome to enjoy the forest," He said as informatively and graciously as he could. He wanted her to feel welcome especially if she was helping.
Attacus grew curious as to the work she was doing. "So you come here often and at night. I am usually only out at night, but have been trying something new. I am curious as to how you tend to the life and what this work you do is, if you wouldn't mind sharing." He returned her bow

Macalania smiled sweetly. "Perhaps." Truth be told, he would never hear her story, legend and real. She liked to keep that part of her hidden; only a select few knew of her past before she came to be as she is now. The less people knew of her other, the weaker she was and thus the less likely she was to come out. So far there had only been a three incidents where she came out.
'That you know of..,' she whispered in the back of her mind, claws grating at the restraints.
Macalania supressed a shiver and turned her attentin back to Attacus, a much needed distraction. The Big Oak Grove? Yggdrasil's herd was originally ment to reside there, but for some reason or another he decided to make their home elsewhere. Not that it mattered to Macalania where they stayed, really. She spent more time here than she did home anyway.
Her work? She smiled. Not a lot asked her what it was she did while she was here. "I make sure all the plants are well. Strip away dying or sick leaves, pull out weeds that kill plants." She nodded towards the jar full of water. "That helps the growing process and healing process. It's mixed with the bark from my tree."
Nosing around in her bag, she produced a book and large piece of paper, folded into a square. "I also make note of everything that lives here and I'm making a map." She unfolded the map, only a small portion of the world documented so far. "It's a work in progress."

Attacus watched as Macalania seemed to get lost in her thoughts for a minute. He wondered what she was thinking but knew not to pry. He tried his best to not be rude and certainly didn't want to make her uncomfortable. He just waited for her response.
He became fascinated with her work as she talked about it. He never knew such things could be done. When she nodded to the jar she had with her he started to notice the other trinkets she carried. He had spent his whole life in the forest and had never seen things like she had. The closest to human items he had seen was his bracelet which his father had given him when he was young. He was curious about what they all were and what they were for. Was she a healer? He wondered what other powers she possessed. "So your tree can heal other things? or just plants?" He said curiously. "I would love to watch you work sometime. It seems like very interesting and helpful work," He said this honestly. He wanted to learn as much as he could about how to help others including trees and plants.
As she pulled out the book and paper he got in close to look at the page. It seemed to have strange drawings on it some he could tell what they were like a tree or circle or x. When he was young he had taken tree branches and drawn things in the mud but nothing like this. He felt a bit like a foal again not knowing about these things. "I am sorry but I have never seen anything like this before. What is a map? You seem to be a talented and hard worker." He was enthralled and wanted to learn everything he could from this mare. He had never met someone who seemed to know so much. Not even his own parents with all of their traveling.

Macalania nodded. "In a way, it can heal other things, but not fully. It can help speed up the process, but I can't heal a wound by myself." She had tried countless times to aid those with her medicine; of course with a unicorn by her side in case she couldn't do it. The wound healed faster, but it was the unicorn who did the most work. Not that Macalania minded. She didn't want to be responsible for the lives of others. Not when she was a constant ticking time bomb. She couldn't handle pressure; was too afraid to try.
Instead she helped out in her own little way; constantly making medicine for the healers in her herd and for the other Garden Watchers. She taught classes when she felt brave enough. Some skills Macalania had she simply had from before she could remember. How she got them she didn't know; like the maps and how to tell if trees were sick. Other things she picked up on, like the names of the different trees and plants.
She blushed at the compliment. She took pride in her work so it was nice to know she was doing a good job. "A map shows locations of the lands, " she pointed to a cluster of trees drawn on the parchment. "We're here." She traced her hoof down a path to another forest. "This is my home when I am not here."
Her voice was bright for the first time in a long time. She was excited to be talking about things she liked. "I'm here for a while. You can watch me whenever you like. The company would be a nice change."

Attacus listened intently. He was impressed and was given I kind of hope for his future meeting this mare. He had not yet met anyone that seemed to work and help others like she did. This was what he was looking for someone with this knowledge and caring nature. "Your tree not only is beautiful but very special. I would love to be able to heal things like that. Be able to help and give back in some way." He had a little knowledge of some plants having different effects but had never tried any kind of healing. He thought he was also pretty lucky for never needing any sort of healing...but knew that it would be a very useful skill to possess.
He continued looking at the map thinking that it was also a pretty handy thing. At the same time knowing what it was left even more questions in his mind. "We seem to be a long way from your home." He wasn't really sure how to tell how far something was on this map but it seemed long to him, maybe because everything was so tiny and he knew when he was in his moth form it took longer to get somewhere.
"Can you tell where anything is on your map? Like could you find my home on it?" His head was spinning a little as he started to take in the meaning. Maybe he could find his parents using this map. His mom had often spoken of places she had wanted to see, like the ocean, desert and mountains. "Or say the Ocean?"
He tried to calm his thoughts, but his mind kept racing. He started to think that the more time he spent with Macalania maybe he would also be one step closer to finding his parents. He started to grow excited at all the things he could learn from her. "Oh Thank You, I would very much like to spend more time with you maybe tomorrow night I could watch you work?" He was eager to learn and see what she did, but he was starting to grow tired in the bright sun, and wanted a night to think about their encounter.

Macalania eyed the map and nodded. "A day's walk for someone without the weight I bare. Half a day's flight for you. Three slow days for me." The length didn't bother her really, she enjoyed the quiet time an the surroundings were quite lovely. Most of the time she worked while she walked, pruning flowers and watering those that didn't have enough moisture.
"I can only find places I've visited. I haven't seen the ocean yet, though it's on my to-see list. No matter how long it takes me to get there." She smiled wishfully. "I hear it's the most beautiful thing." She turned to him, grinning. "Have you seen it?" Her head tilted. "What kind of places have you seen?"
Macalania's curiousity was very child-like, but it was to be expected given she'd never been outside of her home forest and this one she worked in. She wanted to see the rest of the lands desperately, but it was a hard thing to do when walking was such a slow task. She'd heard many stories. Of mountains and rivers. The ocean and wide deserts.
Macalania felt her face heat up as she blushed, thankful of her dark skin. "Sounds like a plan. I'd like that very much."
