Vollyballrocks91 6:14 pm Winter was still in full swing but thankfully, the snowstorm had ended a while ago, and today was actually a warm day. Reveling in the fact that she could walk on actual grass instead of snow was a beyond amazing feeling. Who knew she'd miss it this much?? Neela was still traveling with her new found companion, Zachary, and to be honest she couldn't get enough of him. He was rapidly becoming a true best friend to her in such a short amount of time. They were still on a search for their fathers, but a few times she had thought about what would happen once they did find them. Would their journey be over? Would they separate just like that? It saddened her to think so, so she pushed it to the back of her mind. They had today, and hopefully it would be a good day.
She danced up to the stallion's side and bumped him with her rump. "Why don't we take a detour, there's a thick cluster of trees over in that direction, maybe there's something interesting in there or on the other side?" She beamed a smile at him and grabbed the end of his braid playfully to tug him away. Boy he was handsome. More than once.. actually more than a lot of times she had caught herself staring or thinking about him. How they'd snuggled during the cold snowy nights. But that was for warmth, it didn't mean anything.. at least not to him. And she couldn't complicate their easy friendship by being.. well being a girl.
After letting go of his braid she trotted off ahead of him. This thicket of trees was strange and it looked dark and dank.. but there had to be something worthwhile in there. Maybe. They wouldn't know standing on the outside anyway.
Thalea 6:39 pm Snow did not fall as frequently now after the two soquili escaped the winter wonderland where they had almost met a frozen end. Weeks had passed since they were chased out of the warmth from an angry bear who they had accidently awoken from its slumber, Zachary gave a brief shudder as he remembered how close he could have come to losing Neela, his new friend who continued to find a secure place in his heart. In the short amount of time that they have been traveling together, he has noticed that his gaze has been lingering upon her and a feeling of warmth would fill his body every time he found his thoughts on her. The stallion was not sure what would happen when they reached their final destination, but he was sure that no matter what, they would be friends for life. He smiled at Neela as she bumped into his side; she was as excited as he was to be on sold snow free ground, “Sure, sounds like it will be an interesting adventure.” Truth be told, he did not care which direction he and Neela went, as long as he got to spend more time with his friend. Zach knew that she most likely did not feel the same way about him and he did not wish to ruin the friendship they had by confessing his growing feelings for the mare that reminded him of the depths of the lovely sea. In the back of his mind, the stallion recognized the landscape as something resembling a swamp, but then pushed the thought aside, for there was no harm apparent harm.
Vollyballrocks91 6:45 pm Neela headed in first, her first couple steps sloshing in muddy ground, most likely from the moisture that had been in the area for a while. "Ick, I'm gonna need a bath after walking through here." But after a while it was easier to spot which areas were more solid than the rest. It was slow going but they were picking their way through the swampy area. "Well this might not have been my best idea. But hey! You know, the best things have the best outer defense. Maybe there's this heavenly lush green warm field full of flowers with a sparkling blue lake on the other side of this nasty place. I bet that's it. And we'll be the first to find it!"
Thalea 7:19 pm “It would not be an adventure without a little mud,” he gave her a playful grin; Zachary enjoyed the picture she wove, he imagined the lush land and the sparkling waters and wished with all his heart that he could share that wonder with the mare wandering before him, “that sounds like paradise, Neela. It would be an awe inspiring sight to behold.” He turned his attention down to the muddy ground; he was not sure which one was worse: snow or mud. Carefully he followed behind Neela, making sure he did not step some place which would result in him breaking something of vital importance; he kept one teal eye on Neela and one on the uneven land spreading out before them.
Vollyballrocks91 7:30 pm "Yes it really would be, wouldn't it?" Though trying to reach this paradise was becoming a little tricky. It didn't seem many others wandered through here recently.. or at all for that matter. Vines hung from all over and kept grabbing hold of her, some even blocking the path entirely and forcing them to go around. She wasn't sure if Zach had seen, but so far she'd seen a few pairs of beady eyes watching them from in the murky area. Most likely not friendly.
They came upon another part of their path partially blocked by various vines, though by the looks of this one she could probably clear it with a good jump. Watching her footing as she backed up to get a running start, she ran at the vines and leaped through the opening. Only to land chest high in some thick murky slime. "Well damn, this is counterproductive. Now I really need a bath." But as she tried to get out, move her legs, anything, she didn't move. Panic started to bubble inside her as she continued to try and free herself but nothing happened. Except apparently her hooves moving just dug her down farther, and she sunk a couple more inches.
"Zach! Don't come over here. I don't know how far this thing goes, I don't want you to get stuck." What was she going to do..?
Thalea 7:48 pm The way through the swamp was becoming more treacherous, vines seemed to have a mind of their own and would wrap around the two soquili, attempting to prevent them from continuing deeper into the unknown area. Zach looked up right as Neela jumped over the low hanging vines and a resounding splash reverberated in his ears, “Neela… what do you mean you don’t want me to get stuck?” He could not see her through the thick growth; his blue eyes darted back and forth, searching for a way around the obstacle. Quickly he found an alternate route and proceeded to make his way to his friend; his eyes go wide when he spotted Neela, up to her torso in a dark murky substance, panic started to stir deep in his chest, how would he get her out of the death trap. “Neela, try to stop moving as much… it will make you sink faster.” He did not know what else to say, he was not sure what he needed to do to help his struggling friend.
Vollyballrocks91 8:12 pm "Okay.." But that was easier said than done. When you're trapped, the first instinct is to fight, to escape. Trying to remain as still as possible when thoughts of never escaping and possibly dying run through the mind.. is extremely difficult. "Zach what do I do? I don't know how to get out of here. I don't want to stay here. I really really don't. This is not the lush field of flowers I always imagined I would die in." Finally something made her freeze, but it was not a good thing. "Z-Zach. I.. I think it's time to go. Like now." Coming up slowly behind her friend was the source of those beady eyes watching them from the dark. Something she'd never seen before. The people would know them as alligators. It made the worst hissing noise and showed it's teeth, causing the mare to go into a frenzied panic. She thrashed, which was a very bad idea to do right at the moment, and tried to get away.
Thalea 8:35 pm The sounds of the swamp seemed to fade as the beating of his heart filled his ears, he did not know what to do and was having a difficulty staying calm, if he began to panic then the situation would most likely become more perilous. His eyes widened as he caught site of the scaled creature, it was making its way toward Neela, “Hey you scaley beast! Stay away from the mare I love! She is not going to be your snack!” Warning bells went off in his head, he said something he should not have but it was not the time to think about it, the alligator was now making its way toward Zachary and it was not happy at being called a scaley beast. The gator was almost on to Zach, he turned rapidly and sent out a backwards kick, hitting the beast and sent it flying through the swap; he turned back around, his eyes scanning the swamp for any other danger. “Neela are you alright? Besides being stuck?”
Vollyballrocks91 8:59 pm The dark sludge was slowly oozing over her back, as she had wiggled her way down further into the murky slime. "No! I am not okay! I want to get out of this stuff, out of this place, and I don't want to die!" Tears formed in her eyes, a couple spilling over. She'd finally stopped moving again but it was starting to look hopeless. She'd just starve to death by sitting there, suffocate or drown from going under, or some scaley dinosaur was going to eat her. In her moment of panic, she'd missed what Zach had said about loving her but it was probably for the best. Any more emotional and she'd probably start blubbering like a baby.
Thalea 9:06 pm Teal eyes locked on a low hanging vine, it was perfect; he rose up on his hind legs and pulled the vine from its resting place on the tree, with a flick of his head he sent the end of the vine toward Neela. “Neela, grab the vine with your teeth and hold on tight.” He did the same with the other end of the branch and began to pull on his end, hoping that he could pull Neela to the end of the death pit. His muscles strained, but he could not give up, if he lost Neela, he would not know what he would do with himself.
Vollyballrocks91 9:12 pm Neela was skeptical that the vine would be able to hold under her weight while he was pulling. But what other option did she have? She grabbed the end between her teeth and held on as tight as she could. Her body was moving, slowly but she could feel she was moving in the right direction. She only hoped he could hold out long enough to drag her out.
Thalea 9:19 pm He was starting to tire, but he could not give up, he needed to get Neela out of that muddy trap. The constant cadence of PULL PULL! was playing in his head. Zachary did not know how much time had passed, all he knew was the feel of tension of the vine between his teeth and the strain of his muscles as he continued to pull the lifeline that held the mare his heart was worried about.
Vollyballrocks91 9:29 pm She was back up to her chest, but as much as she wanted to help if she kept kicking her legs it probably just made it harder on him. She willed any energy she had to him because if he couldn't do it, there was no hope. Being pulled in one direction she was closer to the edge of the sink hole and then started being pulled up. Her legs were so close to being freed. Just a little more... Yes! She got her front legs free and used what she could to help try and pull herself out. Bracing her hooves on the solid surface, and her strength combined with his they managed to get her out and she collapsed on the dirt, completely out of breath.
Thalea 9:41 pm He was standing upon four shaking legs, his head bent as he tried to catch his breath, she was out and safe. When he regained his breath and his legs seemed less like grass in a wind storm, he approached Neela, “I am so glad you are safe, I don’t know what I would have done if…” he could not finish the sentence, so he decided to look over Neela to see if exhaustion was her only wound; he did not find anything but mud cloaked on her coat. While she caught her breath, he kept an eye on the swamp around him, wary of any other scaly monster with sharp teeth who thought to make them a snack.
Vollyballrocks91 9:46 pm Neela got up on her shaky legs and stumbled over to Zach, burying her face in his neck, a few more tears spilling over. "Thank you. I.. I don't have enough words to truly express my gratitude. Anything.. if there's anything you ever need, I'll be there." She was still shaky from her ordeal but truth be told, she didn't want to spend another minute in this hell hole.
Thalea 9:56 pm He nuzzled her back, “I am just glad that you can still stand beside me,” he gave her a smile, “And I will always be there for you too.” He looked out at the swamp, many creatures called this place home, but he did not want to be one of them, “Neela… let’s get out of here, I keep having the terrifying thought that the gator has friends…”
Vollyballrocks91 10:25 pm She lingered a little longer against him before she nodded. "Yes, let's go. I'll try to keep up. But.. will you lead this time?" She looked up at him, her eyes tired and heavy with the day's stress, as well as fatigue that was setting in. Her muscles ached for a rest and her body demanded to be clean. She didn't know how much extra weight was caked onto her fur but it would take its toll by the end of the day.
Thalea 10:38 pm Zachary looked her over in her fatigued state, “I will lead, but would it be easier if we walk next together, so you can lean on me anytime you feel tired?” He closed his eye, and tried to remember if he had noticed a river before they walked into the death trap that most people call a swamp, “I think I saw a river a little ways before we made our journey into the swamp, do you think you can make it there?”
Vollyballrocks91 10:42 pm "I don't really have a choice, I'm gonna have to make it. I might be slow though. Just get me outta here, Zach. I don't want to be here anymore." She did lean against him but only briefly since she wanted to get moving as soon as possible.
Thalea 10:51 pm “Okay, let’s go Neela.” He made his way slowly keeping an eye on the exhausted mare; he was so focused on her that he almost did not notice when they finally made their way out of the muddy mess. The ground beneath his hooves was solid, he let out a grateful sigh; if his memory was correct, they were about half way to the river, “How are you holding up?” Zachary gave Neela a worried look, she appeared beyond tired, it reminded him how close he was to losing her.
Vollyballrocks91 10:59 pm "I'm tired." Being back out in the open was a relief, it was like some weight was lifted off her chest and she could breathe properly again. She'd give anything just to be able to lie down for a while though. "Just keep me moving, I'll get there eventually." She gave him a smile, and made sure to keep her hooves moving. As long as she kept taking steps, she'd make it.
Thalea 11:09 pm Zachary gave a slight nod and continued the slow place, his eyes scanning the horizon, where was the river he remembered seeing before the ordeal took place, could he have been wrong? Was he leading Neela in the wrong direction and causing her to become more tired than what was healthy? He shook off the negative thoughts, they would not help him. Minutes passed and nothing appeared in his vision, he was slowly becoming despondent when he spotted a gleam of light off a reflective surface. The river was close! “Neela! Look the river is right over there!”
Vollyballrocks91 11:21 pm She smiled. "I knew you'd get us there.." The last little part of the way was agony. They were so close but so far away. It was a blessed relief when she could finally step into the water, and basically collapse in it. Her head rested on the shore as the current washed over her, slowly removing the dried on muck. It would require some scrubbing to get some of it off but she could do that when she had more energy. The water was freezing due to the cold weather, and probably wasn't safe to be in it for too long but she didn't care at the moment. It just felt good to be somewhere safe.

Thalea 11:29 pm “Do you want me to help you get the mud off?” He wanted to help her in some way but he was unsure what to do; he stepped into the frigid water to rid mud that cloaked his legs. The cold waters helped cleared his mind and he felt his stress melt away, the ordeal was over. As he stood in the river, he reflected back on what happened, had he really told Neela that he loved her? Did she ever respond? He could not remember in the panic of the moment, but perhaps that was for the best, he did not wish to ruin their friendship.
Vollyballrocks91 11:36 pm "You should rest too, I know that wasn't easy on you to pull me out." She reached over to try and rub some of the dirt off her shoulder before replacing her head back on the bank. Her body was going to go numb pretty soon, but she really didn't feel like moving. She was rapidly starting to dislike winter.
Thalea 11:45 pm Worried eyes looked over Neela, “I think it is time to get out of the water.” He started to nudge her, “There is a soft spot of grass that will be more comfortable than this icy water, and I will rest once I know you are settled.”
Vollyballrocks91 11:48 pm She wanted to argue, to tell him to just leave her be. But that was the fatigue talking, and she knew deep down he was right. Pulling herself up and finally standing again she walked over to the soft spot he spoke of. There was still a decent amount of dirt stuck to her but she supposed it would have to wait 'till later, so she sunk down to the ground to sprawl on her side and let her muscles relax.
Thalea 12:06 am Relief filled the stallion when he saw the mare settle down, he wanted to follow suit, but a strong thirst kept him from copying his friend; slowly he made his way to the cold river, the water was calm enough that he could see his reflection clearly in the crystal liquid. Memories of the day flashed before his eyes: Neela becoming stuck in the quicksand, his heart beating rapidly as the panic settled into his being, and the sobering thought that he could lose Neela to the sandy depths; it was then, as he gazed into the reflective surface that the realization hit him, he truly loved Neela, it was not a spur of the moment vocalization when he yelled at the scaly gator. His gaze moved back up to the mare he loved where she lay on the soft bed of grass in a heap of exhaustion; she needed to know how he felt, for it would only be a lie if he continued to pretend that he only thought of her as just a friend. Taking his fill of the water, he made his way up to the sea colored mare, butterflies fluttering in his stomach, he could do this, “Neela, I… uh… Never mind.” He looked away, unable to continue speaking the words that he wished to say.
Vollyballrocks91 12:11 am "What is it Zach?" Her eyes were closed so she couldn't see the inner struggle he was having about voicing his feelings. "If there's something you need to say, you know you can tell me. I already know it was stupid to jump before looking, and it was probably a bad idea for leading us into that area. So I'm sorry. For endangering us both." Clearly the mare must have thought he was going to reprimand her for her directional choices. She'd already been thinking about how much trouble that one choice had caused. And worse, it could have gotten him hurt. She would have never forgiven herself if she had been the one to lead him into harm's way.
Thalea 12:16 am “No… it is not your fault, so don’t blame yourself okay? We would have stumbled upon that pit anyways, for it was blocking the direction that we wished to go… but that is not what I wanted to talk to you about. I know I can tell you anything, but what I want to say may and most likely will change our friendship for either better or for worse and I am incredibly worried about losing you as a friend… I really should not have said anything.” He looked away from her, his heart filled with anguish, why was he being such a coward?
Vollyballrocks91 12:22 am She opened her eyes at that and managed to pull herself up to a sitting position so she could look at him. "Zachary, come here. I'm getting cold but I also want you close when I tell you this." She waited for him to come over to her, wanting him to lay with her. "I don't care what you have to say. We'll always be friends. Because I know you have a good heart, and just for the fact that you don't want to tell me this because you're afraid of hurting me shows that." For some reason, she thought he might be waiting to tell her they should split up. That would indeed hurt, but she couldn't blame him. They've done nothing but get each other into trouble, but if it's what he wanted she would oblige. "You can tell me anything, I promise."
Thalea 12:33 am Her becoming cold worried him, the sun was still high in the sky, even though it was slowly approaching evening, if she was not dry before dark, he was not sure even his own body heat could keep her warm. The stallion settled himself down next to the mud caked mare; he took in a deep breath and mentally prepared himself for what he was about to do, there was no turning back now and whatever the outcome, it was meant to be. “Neela, today I realized something, something that I have known for a while now, but have been too blind to notice it or give it a voice. It was not until I almost lost you that I realized my true feelings for you… when the alligator was coming to make you a meal, I finally gave voice to my feelings and at the time I did not comprehend the drastic realization that it held, it all fell into place only a few minutes ago,” he cast his gaze out toward the river and then back to Neela, looking her in the eyes, “What I am trying to say is, Neela, I love you.”
Vollyballrocks91 12:42 am Her jaw dropped as she gaped at him. She certainly didn't expect that to come out of his mouth. It actually took her a few minutes to comprehend what he had said, and that it really did come out of his mouth. "You.. Oh shoot seems today is just going to be a blubbery day for me." She tried to shake away the tears. "And I thought you were going to say something like we should split up so we don't get into trouble anymore. Zach, you're amazing. I don't know what I'd do if I ever lost you. I thought it was strange, I mean.. I wasn't supposed to have feelings so fast. They're supposed to take time right? But with you everything came flooding in so fast, like you kicked down a dam inside me or something. I love you too, Zachary, and I don't want you to ever go away." She nuzzled her head into his neck and snuggled in close. It was hard to tell if this altogether was turning out to be a really bad day, or a really good day.
Thalea 12:52 am He did not say anything as he let his words sink in, although her silence and tears confused him, he did not mean to make her cry! Neela’s words made him pause, the thought of leaving her because they both got into trouble together never even crossed his mind, “I would never have said anything of the sort, going on an adventure with you has been the most fun I have ever had and who cares if we continuously get into trouble? We have each other to get us out of the messes we find ourselves in.” A wide grin broke out on his countenance, she loved him! “I won’t ever leave you my love.” He nuzzled her, at that moment he was the happiest stallion in the world.
Vollyballrocks91 10:28 pm Neela nuzzled close to him and smiled. Today really was great. She may have almost died, and almost gotten Zach hurt but this made up for everything. This one moment was worth it all. "I didn't think you felt the same as I did. I was trying to figure out what I was going to say to be able to get close to you again since the snow is gone." She giggled and looked up at him, nosing his bangs out of his face. "It seems like just my luck we do this today when I'm freezing, wet, and muddy. I must look like some sort of water rat you drug out of the swamp," she said with a laugh. And yet, he still loved her when she was at her worst, and that meant the most.
Thalea 10:59 pm Elation filled him, she had felt the same way for a while, he tried to think back when he no longer thought of her as a friend but something more, perhaps it was after the bear; he gave a slight nod, yes the bear was a turning point in his life. He mused to himself amused that when the bear awoke, he should go thank it for its help in revealing his love. Teal eyes looked over the mud encrusted mare, and he smiled at her, “You are beautiful.” To him, the mud made him love her all the more, because it reminded him of the trails they went through today and the enlightening thoughts that occurred. He nuzzled closer to her at her mention of being chilled, “Is that better?”
Vollyballrocks91 11:58 pm "It's always better if you're here. Though I wish we had some sort of blanket, I don't know if body heat is gonna be enough to keep us both warm enough." She smiled though. He thought she was beautiful and it made her heart soar. "You know Zachary. I think you're one of.. No I think you're the most handsome stallion I've ever met. I think it's the braid." She nibbled on it playfully. "If your dad looks anything like you, I can see how he could become a ladies man. Bet you could too if you wanted."
Thalea 12:17 am He leaned into her as he closed his eyes and envisioned warmth surrounding them as a blanket; he felt his body heat up as the mental image became real in his consciousness. He hoped that his new heat would absorb into the ice-cold mare, giving her the warmth that she desperately needed. His countenance colored as she stated that she believed he was handsome, never before, in all his travels, had he heard anyone say that they found him attractive, perhaps it was just meant to come from the mouth of the love of his life. Zachary contemplated her words, if it was meant as his life’s path, he was sure he could have become a Casanova like his father, but that is not the way he chose, “I am a one lady stallion, and you are the only mare that I see among many and the only one that love; my heart belongs completely to you.” He smiled at her, his love reflected in his gaze; he did not understand why his father did not want this, to find love and companionship in the one being that completed him.
Vollyballrocks91 8:18 pm "Such a sweet talker you are, Zachary. I'm particularly happy you decided not to become the same type of casanova as your father. Then where would I be? I'd have to be beating some other mares off you.. come to think of it I might have to do that anyway. You don't see your reflection enough to see how handsome you really are." She teased him and snuggled in even closer, which was basically impossible unless the started melting into each other. Winter was going to be a long season. "What are we gonna do Zach? There's so many places to go and do together. I don't know where we'll begin."
Thalea 8:27 pm He gave her a lopsided smile as he imagined his love scaring off the other mare she said may follow him, although he doubted that they would do that when they noticed the beautiful mare walking beside him. “You would still be where you belong next to me and in my heart, there is something about you that I cannot deny and I believe that no matter what, I was meant to find you.” With teal eyes he looked out at the wintery world before him, snow had not yet fallen in this area and he hopped that it would not do so until he and Neela were far enough away or safe in warm shelter, “West, South, East, North, we are free to choose and that is what makes it the most exciting,” he turned his attention back to her, “We could head south, where it will be warmer or we can continue on this path we are currently on.”
Vollyballrocks91 2:33 pm "I'm glad for that. It does seem like fate was working in our favor when we ran into each other that day. I suppose I can't deny that everything happens for a reason because if certain events hadn't taken place, even if they did make me sad at the time, they led me here. And I'm really happy being here." She lay her head against him, listening to his soft breathing and steady heartbeat as she slowly started to warm up again. "I don't really care which way we go to be honest. Either way it will be something new."
Thalea 2:47 pm He remembered the time when she once told him about how she cared deeply for another stallion who was also her great friend, but he vanished without a word; Zachary leaned closer to Neela, he would never leave her, he did not wish to cause her that pain again. “I am glad to have found you Neela, even if the road we traveled before was rough, in the end it was worth it, for it led me to you.” He tilted his head to the side a silly grin on his countenance, what he just said sounded like it came from some sort of love song. “A grand adventure awaits us, how about, in the morning we will just travel in the direction that feels right.”
Vollyballrocks91 2:50 pm Neela smiled at him and gave a lick on his nose. "That sounds like a really good plan to me. Hopefully after get a little more cleaner and actually look decent again. I think I'm going to be picking dried mud out of my coat for a week. But.. don't let me pick the direction anymore, I think we've seen how that turns out."
Thalea 3:09 pm Zach looked over her muddy state and then at his own, tomorrow morning when the sun is still casting its warmth upon the earth they should be able to wash some of the dirt off and not become popsicles; he tried to think if the land was geologically capable of containing hot springs, but he was sure that they were nowhere near a body of hot water. Zachary gave a small laugh, “Alright, I will lead from now on, but just to be safe, let’s stay out of swamps from now on.”
