It was difficult to walk.

When he got back to the portal at the lighthouse, the hunter on duty gave him a slightly startled look, though it was clear this was not the first time she had seen someone come back looking like death. She silently touched his shoulder and pointed him to the left when he swayed unsteadily, pushing him through the door, her lips pressed together in a disapproving expression.

Gale ignored her - a slightly rude way of handling things, he supposed, but his mind was not in the right frame and he did not have the strength, nor the desire, to deal with anyone at the current moment. Blood had stained the back of his coat red, and with each step it felt as though he were ripping something, his hip roaring in pain with each agonized step. If the wolf hadn't held on for so long, it might have been less damage, but she had had a grip like iron.

That damn creature, thought Gale bitterly, as he took yet another halting step. He had almost made it back to the dorms now, but the prospect of having to climb the stairs was both a daunting one and a slightly horrifying one. Slowly pushing open the door to the dorms, he winced at the effort, and then leaned against the wall trying to catch his breath.

<< You need to go to the infirmary. >>

And face that perverted doctor? I bloody well will not.

<< Gale... >>

Shut up and let me concentrate. I need to figure out how to climb these stairs.

They looked like the equivalent of a mountain. Gale eyed them rather warily, and then sighed. Standing here doing nothing and just staring at them wouldn't get him anywhere, and the elevators were too far away. And so, gritting his teeth, Gale took the first step.

Next time I see that wolf I'm sticking her in a box and never letting her out, he thought grimly as he lay there, collapsed on the steps and breathing in hard. All it had taken was a single step and his hip had roared in such pain that his leg had refused to support him, immediately giving away and sending him crashing to the stairs in a pathetic bloody, bruised, and battered heap.

This. Is. Ridiculous.

With a great deal of effort he dragged himself back up, clenching his teeth so tightly he was grinding his teeth together. It took him a good ten minutes to reach the top, and by the time Gale staggered into the long hallway that held the trainees rooms he was completely winded. His room was only twelve doors down, but it seemed like a lifetime, and Gale leaned back against the wall just beside the stairwell door, slowly sliding down until he was sitting on the floor. His eyes fluttered shut as his head fell back, Gale's breathing haggard.

I think I'll just sit here a moment and rest...

If there was one thing that was exceptionally extraordinary about Deus Ex, it was how clean and spotless it was. Really. Molly was very impressed how such a place could be such a light coloring and still remain spotless. During the few weeks she had been here, the young woman was becoming rather well adjusted to the nearly sterile environment…so when she happened to come across such a bold color such as red…well, it was startling to say the least.

She was coming back from the cafeteria, and found the red spots on the stairs to be rather odd. What of course took the cake though, was entering the dorms to immediately find a red, bloodied mess on the floor. Molly screamed, purely out of surprise and shock, and then of course came the immediate rush of concern and worry once her mind registered it was a fellow trainee. “Oh dear, oh dear…” The young woman muttered, coming to kneel next to the fallen hunter, hesitating, her hands hovered above him before gingerly coming to rest on his shoulder. Oh! She recognized him!

“..G-Gale, sir?” She questioned, panic edging into her voice. “Are you alright!?” Not the brightest question to ask, but hey, it was the thought that counts.

He hadn't heard her coming; it was only when a sudden shriek echoed throughout the hallway that Gale realized he was no longer alone. A wince flashed across his face as he struggled to move his head upwards.

It hurt. A lot.

Since he was having quite a bit of difficulty just opening his eyes, Gale really had no idea who was in front of him until they spoke - and then he heard the "sir" tacked onto the end of his name and knew exactly who it was.

He forced his eyes open.

"...Molly," he said, and it was a statement, not a question. The older hunter was crouched in front of him, a worried expression on her face and Gale glanced down at himself, trying to figure out a way to explain the fact that he was bleeding all over the place. He didn't want to admit that he'd utterly failed - that his encounter with the werewolf had not gone as planned, so instead he said, a little dryly. "Just cheeky, thank you."

A slight pause.

"I don't suppose you might...help me to my room, would you."

Well, he was talking, and still conscious! That was good at least! “Y..you’re room?” She echoed. “Shouldn’t you go to the infirmary instead?”

Regardless, Molly was certainly not going to just leave him there. Though she hesitated, it wasn’t because she was afraid of getting dirty; it was because she was afraid of hurting him further. How should she help him up? It seemed like there wasn’t going to be a ‘good’ way about this. Molly bit her lip as her hands hovered above Gale once more, before she finally just went for it. One arm went to wrap around his waist, and the other grabbed his wrist, pulling the arm over her shoulders.

Ready?” She questioned anxiously before she tried to stand with him.

"No," grunted Gale, then winced horribly as he hauled himself to his feet, the bite to his hip sending sharp stabs of pain all up and down his side. He very nearly collapsed again, careening sideways into Molly, but he managed to stay upright, if not swaying a bit from side to side. His fingers were gripping her shoulder so tightly they were probably white beneath his gloves.

"No doctor," he said again, shaking his head to get rid of the hair that had fallen into his eyes - and then regretted that gesture almost immediately when a wave of dizziness coursed over him. Gale only barely managed to keep everything down - it was bad enough that he was in this state, let alone having to rely on someone else to help him, but to throw up would just make everything that much worse.

"Going to the doctor...means...seeing...that guy..." Gale gave a small cough, hobbling along with Molly's help, her arm around his waist giving him much needed support. "I'd rather...get well myself, thanks..."

Though that was certainly going to be a long time coming. Gale brushed his hair away from his face with one bloodstained hand, then said apologetically, "I'm sorry you had the misfortune of stumbling across me. I'm not usually....this...bad."

That damn wolf.

Molly swayed lightly as Gale careened into her side, but luckily she was steady enough on her feet, and larger than the smaller hunter. Poor Gale. Molly’s frown deepened as she felt his fingers dig into her shoulder but said nothing of it.

That guy…?” She echoed, helping the trainee along down the hall slowly, cautious of her movement and hold on him. “…But sir…you um…look…well…really bad…A..as in you really should go see a doctor I think!” The young woman shook her head, curls swinging this way and that. “Don’t apologize! I am glad I came when I did! What happened?” If Gale didn’t go to the infirmary…would she be able to do something for him? She’d…have to try at least, right?

With a great deal of effort Gale managed to twist his head up to look at Molly.

"You don't have to call me 'sir', you know," he said, a small smile tugging at his lips in spite of the fact that he felt as though his hip and leg were on fire. Wincing horribly, he attempted to drag himself further upright so that he would not have to lean quite so heavily on her. "I'm a senior hunter, but it's not necessary. You can just call me Gale."

His leg shivered and gave way, and Gale very nearly collapsed entirely, almost strangling Molly unintentionally in an attempt to keep himself upright.

"Sorry - "

Forcing himself not to pass out, Gale said, through gritted teeth, "The only doctor there is is a git. You've met him; he snapped Clarice's neck in your initiation. He's not - " Ow. " - someone I'd trust with my health."

They were finally nearing his dorm. Gale nodded his head in the direction of his door.

"I'm in Room 112."

O..oh! Okay…only if you’re certain!” Molly replied with a slight bob of her head. “Gale is a very nice name…” She murmured, more to herself. She liked it. “Oop!” The young woman swayed and staggered as the senior hunter nearly fell, and made a slight coughing sound as he nearly strangled her. Both of her arms immediately wrapped around his waist to help keep him upright, and she secured her footing to remain standing as well.

It’s okay!” She assured, and fixed her hands again so that they had him by the wrist over her shoulder and around his waist once more as she continued to help him down the hall. Molly’s brows furrowed. Did she meet the doctor? She didn’t recall meeting any—

WHAT!?” Molly cried, looking at Gale wide eyed. “He snapped Miss Clarice’s neck!? Why would he do that!?” Oh god, oh god…was…was Miss Clarice de—No…no don’t think that…but her neck! Sadly, Molly had not yet had the pleasure of going to an awakening lecture…and she was on the verge of a panic attack right now, thinking that Miss Clarice was…was…no longer with them.

Her comment about his name surprised him; Molly had meant the compliment genuinely, which Gale appreciated - especially since in growing up, most of the comments he had heard regarding his name were something along the lines of "Gale? Isn't that a GIRL'S name?" to which he would reply, in a dull sort of voice, "No."

Which made his opinion of Molly nudge slightly higher.

Their progress was slow going, mostly because Gale was having quite a bit of difficulty staying upright and moving. Each agonizing step reminded him that while he hadn't broken his hip, he did have a rather nasty and bloody looking bite where the wolf's teeth had ground into his skin - not to mention the scrapes on his back, the bite marks on his upper arm, and the bruises that lined his face, the cut to his neck, right above the scar marks from a previous mission. Fortunately none of this would last - the FEAR shield had stayed in tact long enough for him to get out of there and prevent long-lasting damage, but it did not mean that it did not hurt like hell anyway.

And like hell he was going to that doctor.

...who apparently had, in fact, not met Molly, since the startled cry she let out made Gale wince a little.

"I take it you weren't...in the orientation meeting, then," he said, sighing a little, and then let out a hiss of pain. They were almost there, passing by Room 118 now. "And yes, Doctor H is our resident...well, he's the Division Head of the Life Hunters. And it was a demonstration. Don't worry, she's perfectly all right. A bit pissy at the Doctor, but what else is new."

Room 116...

"I'm in room 112, by the way."

She missed an orientation!? Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear—

YAY! Miss Clarice was okay!

The Mist trainee breathed a large sigh of relief at Gale’s words, though it did not lessen her confusion as to why someone would get their neck snapped…as well. Focus on one thing at a time! She needed to focus on making sure Gale was alright and getting him back to his room safely! “Alright…” Molly murmured, continuing to help him along until she came to stop in front of his door. “Here we are!” She announced, as if it wasn’t obvious enough. Now, she waited for Gale to open the door…she didn’t want to just barge right on it, even with Gale more or less in her arms, that’d just be rude! It wasn’t her room, after all.

Do you have a first aid kit?” She questioned.

When they finally reached his door - six million years later (or so it felt to Gale), he was only half conscious as Molly announced their arrival, his vision sliding in and out.

"S-somewhere," he murmured, and sluggishly reached for the handle, pushing open the door with an absurd amount of energy - which in reality was hardly any, but in his current state it certainly felt as though he had just climbed a mountain.

Or two.

He tried to stagger gracefully inside (that didn't work), stumbling and nearly collapsing (that worked), but Gale at least managed to get to the bed before that happened, landing with a pained "ow" on his bed.

And then regretting that fact, since it hurt like all hell landing on even the soft blankets. Gale - miraculously - managed to roll over onto his back, his chest heaving for air as he flinched horribly. Dear heaven it felt as though his leg were about to be ripped out of its socket...

"In the...closet..." he mumbled, closing his eyes briefly.

The Mist trainee hovered over the smaller hunter worriedly as he made his way to the bed, wincing as he landed on it. “C-closet? Okay!” Molly turned around then, and cautiously opened the door. Luckily that was an easy item to find, and she pulled it out, placing it on a nearby desk. Turning to observe Gale once more, her brows knitted with worry. “…O..oh, Gale, I will be right back, okay? Don’t go anywhere! I will be right back, I promise.”

Molly backed her way to the door slowly, and paused, her eyes squinting as she stared at the corners of his room before she suddenly ran out the door and down the hall. A few minutes later, Molly’s return would be marked by the sound of her boots clomping down the hall as she suddenly whipped back into his room, and surveyed his room. Okay, good, there’s nothing there.

In her hand, Molly had a few towels that she creatively liberated from the girl’s bathroom. One of them was completely wet and the other dry. The Mist trainee approached Gale’s bed, placing the towels down next to the kit and then pulled off her jacket and scarf hanging them on the back of a chair before rolling up her sweater sleeves as well. “Okay…I’m uh….going to take off your coat, alright?”

Gale decided he was never, ever going back to that bloody haunted house.

Then he realized how pathetically cowardly that sounded, and changed his mind. He would go back, he would find that damn werewolf, and this next time, he would just shoot her without hesitating.

He didn't move a muscle when he heard Molly dart out, instead just concentrated on not sleeping or passing out. If anything, Gale preferred to stay awake and lucid, but the fact that pain was seeping into his every thought made that slightly difficult.

"Yes, all right," he mumbled, too tired to say much more, but then he added, "I'm sorry about this, by the way. I don't mean to be such a....drag."

That took up much of his effort, and Gale lapsed into silence - Jinhai, for once, remained oddly quiet and said nothing.

Now, this was in no way meant to belittle Gale, but since the young man was badly hurt, Molly started to approach aiding him like she would well…a child. Meaning, she’d just do everything for him. Molly was well versed in caring for a child, and thus went through the motions rather smoothly, and she smiled at him encouragingly. “No need to apologize.” She assured. “I’m just glad you’re alright, and that I can help.”

The Mist trainee maneuver him out of his coat with firm but gentle hands, and placed it off to the side before she started to clean up the marks with the wet towel in combination with the materials from the first aid kit. The young woman was content to work on silence for the time being as well, and once the wounds were cleaned, Molly started to bandage and gauze him. Maybe Gale would almost look like a mummy once she was done…

How are you feeling now?” She murmured, finishing up.

Gale offered Molly what might have been a smile. Or it might have been a smile-turned-wince, since she was attempting to help him out of his coat now and that hurt like hell.

Once it was off, however, and Molly began her ministrations - which still hurt - Gale tried to relax a bit, letting her do her work. The coldness stung, his body ached, but once the bandages and gauze were entirely finished, he found the pain marginally more bearable than it had been.

Experimentally he lifted an arm, flinching a bit.

"Better," he said, and dropped it back down, closing his eyes briefly. "Well this is certainly not a very good first meeting..."
