User ImageSpring seemed far away this winter. The Realm's lands, while not often a place to find snow, were frigid and damp from a recent rain - one that Wonderland and the Radiant Garden had desperately needed - and often had some frost in the cooler mornings.

Today was such a morning when Oath left her den near Pride Rock, shuddering when her pawpads crushed against the ground and sent chills down her spine. For seasons like this only was her colorful mane useful for extra insulation, but if it rained . . . She turned her eyes skyward to check and uttered a small sigh: gray skies promising neither sun nor sleet with certainty. Joy of joys. The wolf continued forward.

In the least there was no wind to bring further disgruntlement this day, though even if there had Oath would not have decided to stay in her den. No, she had promised to visit Lalita and his new custodies, be it rain or shine. But it helped that his place was not far; she wouldn't even have to leave the vicinity of Pride Rock.

User Image This new weather was not agreeing with Nakine.

She had been born by the seaside, and though the nights had been cold, the weather had not dropped below freezing, and the skies had stayed mostly clear. That was the big thing: this damp, drizzling, awful weather that seemed to climb in through her mouth and fill up her lungs.

Her breathing difficulties came and went. Sometimes she was perfectly find, as happy and healthy as any pup could be. But other times, the reality of her cruelly premature birth made itself evident in the way she had difficulty in turning oxygen into energy in her lungs. When it was damp out, as it was today, she sometimes felt that she was drowning.

So to say she was a little miserable would be an understatement. She tried to catch her breath in big, deep, even inhalations -- gasping made her dizzy and frightened. She wished that she could curl up in her father's fur and sleep until the weather cleared up, but that wasn't an option...the weather might never clear up, at this rate.

Trying to make the best of the situation, the pup crept forward, trying to get a view of what was going on out in the world. She glanced over at Abhidi, wondering how he was liking this new pack and the weather that came with it, and whether he had started to like their daddy yet.

User ImageHearing his sister so miserable made him even more miserable. He hated his father because his mommy was gone. His father didn't know what to do with two pups and that was very clear. So far, Abhidi's mood had not changed much. Watching her, Abhidi got on all fours and moved over to his sister, nudging her very gently and licked her face. "Nakine... Do you want some water? I can get you some..." He whispered. Their dad was asleep through all of this and didn't ever hear Nakine's fits when she got like this. It made the pup hate him even more. Lalita didn't want to take care of them.

Mommy would know what to do if she was here. Mommy could make Nakine feel so much better some how. As he watched his sister and let the dark thoughts take over his head, his tail curled between his legs and he sighed. His green eyes glazed over and he looked to the side. He hated seeing his sister in this condition. He felt like it was his fault because he was the healthier of the two. He felt like he had taken all of his sister's immune system and strength in times like these. Slowly his ears drooped and he just nosed at her cheek again, sighing.

"I'm going to get you water. I'll be back. You need to stay here, OK, Nakine?" Abhidi made sure she knew to stay where she was and he aheded out from the den and looked around. He had no idea where he was going. His father hadn't bothered to show them around yet. All in all, he hated it in this pack. This pack separated him from everything he loved besides his sister and stuck him in a place where neither of them were very healthy and with a 'father' who couldn't care about them any less.

By the stars, she wished her domain was weather instead of memories: in the least she could do something about this awful atmosphere. Some parts of the land she could even see had bits of lingering fog, which did little to help her feel anchored to the world she already had a questionable grasp on. What did keep her rooted was the spasm of cold with each paw step, the sound of dead grass crunching underfoot - and the sight of a rather bright-colored individual.

Oath jumped to the assumption that it was one of the half-siblings or her brood, but she did not recollect any of the pups having had such a sunny theme - or such a scowl to oppose it. "Little one?" the shaman called clearly, her long strides taking her towards the pup in an almost ghostly manner. "Where are you going?" She only then remembered that this was one of the ones brought by the travelers. But where was the other?

Nakine licked her brother's cheek gratefully in response, her tail thumping behind her. "Okay," she said, hesitantly, not quite understanding how he could bring her water -- or how it might help, considering she felt like she was drowning -- but she wasn't about to turn down any help she could get. Besides, Abhidi was smarter than she was. Maybe he knew something she didn't.

She watched him leave, then glanced back over her shoulder at Lalita, a small wheeze catching in her throat. She tried to clear her throat to say something and was overcome by a coughing fit again.

It didn't last long. She took a deep, steadying breath, trying to push back the dizzy feeling that was creeping over her head, and struggled up to her paws, debating if she should try to wake up her father or not.

The bright male pup stopped dead in his tracks and let his green eyes glance up to the speaker. Oh, it was that ghostly female his dad had talked about sometimes. Brows knitting again he looked away and rolled his eyes. He didn't want to talk to an adult right now. Abhidi wasn't good with adult females because he had recently been dropped off by her without much explanation on her part. Sighing, he shrugged again and pawed at his face. "My sister's coughing. I'm going to get her some water."

He turned his ears back to the den when he heard a few more wheezes and his brows knit again. "...She's not doing well. She's sick... Really sick.. I don't know if she can get better at all, either."
