This is a journal for Lisha and Frethen. Hopefully I'll get a pretty intro here some day. <3

Chosen

Name: Lisha Selen Mattel
Called: Lisha or L’ [/Elle]
Sex: Female
Age: Seventeen

Appearance: Lisha is a small-ish girl at 5’4 with a slender frame; her hips are a bit wide, and her chest is of moderate size. Her hair is an auburn that changes with exposure to the sun – lighter and with a bit more red when she’s basked in it, darker with more brown tones when she’s spent some time under the trees or indoors; it is thick, wavy, and reaches about her mid-back. Lisha almost always keeps her hair in a braid, which usually makes itself comfortable over her right shoulder. Along the back of her right jaw, and down along the side of her neck just touching the front of her right collar bone, she has a birthmark – pink, with a few touches of brown, thin and long with a few small, reaching 'branches'. Her eyes are a cool, clear, striking blue, rimmed in sea-green that here-and-there seeps into the iris as well, noticed if one looks closely enough. Her cheeks always have a bit of pink in them, becoming more concentrated when she is cold, or spreading a bit when she is embarrassed.

Lisha likes to wear comfortable clothing: nothing too constricting, occasionally, when specifically aiming for ultimate comfort (usually in her own home), things that are slightly over-sized. She generally wears light fabrics that breathe well, if she can help it, and though she enjoys flowing skirts, she often wishes she could get away with pants. She usually wears flat, flexible shoes when she can help it.

Personality: Lisha does not speak – generally speaking. She was born with very brittle vocal chords, and though she is generally a quiet spirit as is, she would love to be able to at least have the option to speak; she does occasionally fight biology by trying to talk now and then, but she usually can’t get past a few words without pain, and her voice always sounds rather strained. To make up for her lost vocal chords, she continues to utilize what Sign Language has been developed, playing charades when she absolutely has to, and she also carries around a notebook and pen/pencil at all times. Though mostly it holds conversations in its pages, she also doodles in the margins now and then – nothing fancy, just some fun swirls and attempts at creatures, or people if she’s feeling adventurous.

Lisha Mattel cares about her family and friends very much, especially because they seem to be few and far between. To be perfectly frank, most people don’t want to deal with being patient enough to talk to her, let alone get to know her and really be her friend. Lisha finds that the majority people get exhausted and impatient waiting for her to write a response to something that they took ten seconds to say, especially when in-depth conversations find a chance occur. Group gatherings can also leave her feeling lonely as, despite the fact that she can hear and follow everyone just fine, she has almost no time to contribute anything to big conversations. As a result, she’s not the most socially-excited person. She generally prefers one-on-one time with friends, or time with very small groups, if anything.

Due to the above, Lisha has found that she has easy bonds with animals. She loves animals, and she doesn’t have to speak to get them to understand her, and they almost never leave her behind – or if they do, it’s nothing nearly as personal as why humans often do. She spends quite a bit of time with animals as a result, visiting clinics or stables often. As a career, she will probably pursue animal care in some form.

Lisha is perhaps not the most optimistic of people, but that doesn’t make her pessimistic. She likes to say that she is realistic, and open to spontaneity and surprise. She doesn’t really expect much from anyone, and though she likes to hold a little bit of hope for certain things, she doesn’t like the feeling of being let down – even if you’re the only person building yourself up. Honestly, it’s part of what comes with the territory of not being able to speak. She can’t really blame anyone who has decided to not seek out her company again, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t get to her every time. When put in the right situation, she can be a valuable asset – she's a good helper, is good at following directions, can help with just about anything you need – but many people don't think to include her in many situation where all this is needed.

Lisha is also not the most courageous person you might ever meet. She likes a good adventure now and then, but only if she’s with someone she knows and trusts, and in good light... and maybe with some sort of map. Otherwise, she won’t go far, whether on her own or with some acquaintance; it takes a lot of gentle coaxing then, and some sort of inherent trust anyway, and/or constant reassurance. She's a bit better with Frethen around now, but she finds little reason to have many adventures on her own. Lisha gets anxious somewhat easily in new or stressful situations, as well, which can hinder her ability to push through difficult situations. Despite being used to being alone, she doesn’t like it at all, especially when stressed. While she doesn't enjoy adventure very much, she does enjoy climbing rocks and trees when she can.

History: Lisha Selen Mattel was born at 4:53am on a Tuesday, the first child of Irving and Esla Mattel. Her cry was strained, and she didn’t cry for long whenever bothered – a nice break for her parents, perhaps, but clearly something wasn’t quite right. Born with fragile vocal chords, and even found to be ever-so-slightly deaf in her right ear (though not enough to really hinder her), it didn’t take long for Lisha to discover that vocal crying actually hurt, and for her to become nearly silent. Luckily, her parents worked to make sure that she still interacted with others, and occasionally exercised her voice without straining it. Teachers, too, often encouraged her to speak – sometimes to pain before they realized that her condition was actually real, though eventually they all came to better terms with the issue.

Irving and Esla had another child two years later, a little girl they named Suza. Lisha and Suza were very close sisters, though eventually it was clear that Suza had an advantage when finding friends at school, and elsewhere. She helped to include her sister in more social activities, but eventually Lisha pulled back a bit by her own choice. While Suza spent more time with her neighborhood friends, Lisha spent more of her time with the family, their cat, and venturing to see other animals as well.

Despite her social differences, Lisha grew to be a rather mature young lady. Though when she was younger she was rather bitter about her voice and the way many reacted to her, she eventually grew to accept it, and could understand why she was so separate from the world. She still has moments of unrest about it, but she tries to be nice to people and at least offer them a smile (though if it’s less than sincere, the receiver will know). She mostly spends time at a local animal shelter when not at school, or taking long walks into town, along the Thrithing, or just outside the Wardwood.

It was on one of these walks that Lisha felt the longing to actually enter the Wardwood, when she was about fourteen. She had no idea she would be in the wood so long, and so she took no provisions. Her parents were worried sick while she wandered for nearly a day and a half into the wood, and then another day or so back out of it. Lisha, however, felt no trepidation, especially once she had her totem in hand. It took only a little over a week for the totem to evolve, Lisha waking one morning to curious, caramel-colored eyes peeking over the edge of her bed. Her parents were bewildered, but they adjusted, and Frethen quickly settled into the family.

Lisha could not be happier with Frethen. She has a constant companion, a best friend who she doesn’t have to speak to, who understands her despite her voice. She has clearly become a bit less solitary since Frethen came into her life, though she still finds herself largely ‘on her own’. Still, she wonders exactly what Frethen’s presence really means, and how in the world she got so lucky; but for now, she is content to merely enjoy the situation.

Guardian

Name: Frethen
Sex: Male

Appearance:

User Image

A cream-colored buck, sturdy and strong. Two ruddy silver stripes across his cheek, four white stripes across his haunches angled from tail down to seem to point to his front knees. Grey-brown antlers, and silvery hooves. Soft, caramel-toffee eyes. A light pinkish hue on his muzzle.

Personality: Frethen is curious – and more inclined to let his curiosity take him on adventures than his human companion. He does try to convince Lisha to explore his curiosities with her, but it is rare that she gives in. He likes to encourage her in many things, really – he enjoys meeting new potential friends, and encourages Lisha to engage in what conversations she can and keep trying to find more friends as often as possible (again, his success here varies). He is much more willing to try new things, and he only hopes to impose the joy of new discoveries onto his companion.

Frethen is gentle, but also can be quick to excitement. when he finds himself very excited about something, his energy nearly bursts forth from him – which generally leads to quite a bit of him jumping and running around. He loves to burrow and nuzzle as well – if Frethen likes you, you’ll know, because he’ll enjoy rubbing his forehead against your shoulder, gently nudging your arm as he walks by, et cetera. However, if he’s upset with you, he will entirely ignore you, even to the point of not looking at you. It’s somewhat childish, but it is his preferred method of making his sentiments known. He usually does not stay mad for long, and he tries to find ways to shake it off rather than holding a grudge.

When Frethen gets focused, there is almost nothing that could tear his attention away. And he sometimes gets grumpy if he is persistently interrupted. He has spent hours following the Thrithing, just to satisfy a need to know where it led. He spent an entire gusty afternoon determined to find a dandelion puff that would be blown completely away just by the wind. Lisha doesn’t always enjoy when he wants her to be involved in his projects (he had her repeatedly flip a coin just to determine whether its balance was as off as he suspected it to be – it was a bit off after all), but she tries to indulge him a bit, and always leaves him to his work if she is not necessary for the findings.
