 He couldn't believe it. They were doing it -- actually doing it. He had been completely certain that Aislin and Cumulonimbus would have given up on their hair-brained scheme as quickly as they'd first come up with it; they were going to run out of steam, give up, and that would be that.
But it hadn't happened, and now they were getting ready to head out on their wandering, and it was time to go check on Sophia and be quite sure that she was going to live up to her promise. Not that he expected her to. She was probably going to laugh at him and say no way, there was no chance that she would ever stick around with him and she didn't like him anyway.
He didn't want her to say that. But he figured she would. Because life sucked.
"Sophia?" He called, a little hesitantly, as he stopped outside of the den she had carved out for herself. He glanced around nervously. What if she wasn't here? What if her den had filled up with badgers while she was gone? He could stick his head down in there and have it chewed off by an angry badger, and probably nobody would even come to see what happened to him. Likely as not, everybody was just going to run off and leave without him. Those jerks.

 Sophia heard a quiet voice calling her from outside her den and stretched smiling. Fubar was back, she thought he may chicken out and leave her here. Standing up she peeked her head out of the den and licked his cheek. "Hello Fubar, I'm happy you came back for me." She said and sat down in front of him.
"What is happening?" Sophia asked seeing his worry.

"Huh? Oh. Nothing." If wolves could blushed, he would have blushed at her sudden affection; his ears twisted back and his eyes averted and he looked, for a moment, totally off-put.
"Well. Um. I just came to see you." His brow furrowed, the arrows twisting over his eyes. "To make sure that you still...wanted to come along with me. Wandering around with my cousin and his friends. Not my friends. I don't have any friends," he added, as though having friends were a bad thing -- similar to having fleas.
He backed away from the entrance, looking around at the area. She'd made a nice little place here, he thought. He wondered if they'd be able to camp so nicely while they were wandering around. He'd never really been far away from home territory before.
"But if you still wanted to come, Cue wants to go in two days, so...I thought I'd come spend that two days with you, and you can decide."

"I like a good adventure, but i am not so sure about the pack thing. I don't know if i am cut out for it." She said slightly surprised that he wanted to spend the next two days with he before they left. But in truth, a pack was a life she'd left long ago, and the only way she'd go back to that was if she gained a mate or became a mother. SImply for the safety of her pups.
"Well I'm happy you are going to stay with me. What would you like to do?"

He shrugged. "Packs, no packs...doesn't matter to me. Most other wolves are all idiots anyway, no matter if I'm living with them or not." His brow furrowed. "They're saying all kinds of things, though. About how much safer we'll be, and happier, and everything else. If they can actually deliver on all the things they're saying, they'll be miracle-workers." He rolled his eyes. Fubar was of the opinion that nobody ever kept their word for long, especially not for good promises.
"But, anyway. It's better than staying around here, anyway." His nose wrinkled. He was hard-pressed to say exactly what was so bad about being here, but never mind any of that. That wasn't important. "What do you usually do?" He asked, trying to look nonchalant. "When I'm not around, I mean?"
Probably hook up with other male wolves, he thought sourly. Much bigger, handsomer wolves.

Sophia shurgged, "I hunt and swim a lot, i found a pretty nice place to run through right outside of your pack lands." She said and started walking towards the area she was talking about. "I guess we can just relax since we will probably be traveling for a while. We can get to know each other better."

He trailed after, his usually dour expression softened somewhat. He could never stop being completely amazed at how happy she was, all the time, no matter what. It was oddly intoxicating, like the smell of nectar in flowers.
Could he ever be that happy? Was it even possible to be that happy, for real? Or was she just hiding some darker ulterior motive? What if Cue and Aislin really could make everything they said come true? Well. He'd believe it when he saw it, and even then he might not believe it.
"You want to get to know me better?" He asked in a tone that was half-playful, half-disbelieving.

"Well friends get to know each other right?" She asked and tried her head to the side. Normally she kept people at a distance, it was easier to leave that way. But something inside of her made her think she would be with him for a while.
In truth she wanted to make him happy, or at least see the world a little better than he did now. He was fun to her and she found his presence comforting. And she hoped that he felt the same way about her.

"I guess they do. I don't have any other friends. Just my family, and they already know everything about me." That was the problem, wasn't it? That was why he was in such a hurry to get away from them -- he could be anyone he wanted once he left and nobody was telling him what he could be.
"Are you scared of anything?" He blurted out, not sure why he was bothering to ask, but deeply curious.

"Of course, everyone is afraid of something. I worry about dieting alone and never feeling for filled with my life." She said and lead him into a small opening in the trees that was filled with flowers. "This is the place i wanted to show you." She said and smiled at him.
"What are you afraid of Fubar?"

"Everyone dies alone," he said, as he wandered into the small meadow. The freshly-blooming flowers brushed against his legs as he waded out into the wildflowers, and he lowered his muzzle thoughtfully to smell at one, before thinking better of it and pulling away. There were probably bees in the flowers.
"I don't want to be alone forever, either," he said, hesitantly. "Well. That's not true. I would rather be alone than have to put up with stupid wolves I don't like. But...I've always been scared that I wouldn't meet anyone who was worth anything. That...I was the only wolf I could stand to be around....or that nobody else could stand to be around me. I guess that's the same thing."
He settled down carefully in the flowers, still glancing uneasily between them as if expecting the flowers themselves to conspire some way to kill him.
"I'm also scared of bees. And bears. And I'm scared that one day the sun won't rise. And I'm scared that the ground will switch places with the sky, and everyone will fall forever."

Sophia frowned and laid down in the flowers. "Well thats a horrible thing to think about. . ." She said and thought about the idea of dieting alone without anyone to care for.
That was the worst thought for her, she wanted love and someone there to comfort her so she didn't have to try so hard to be strong. "Bees won't hurt you if you don't bother them, and bears won't attack you unless you are around their cubs, the sun will always rise and the ground will stay put." she said rather flatly still bother by what he said, that everyone dies alone.

"You don't know that," he said, sprawling out on his belly. He sank down into the flowers, so deep that he was nearly hidden, and crept forward, crawling in her general direction.
Still, her words cheered him a little. He crept up and touched his nose to her shoulder, brow furrowed. "But...you know. We could...we could die alone, together."

Sophia looked back at him and smiled softly, "That would be nice." she said and laid her head down as she curled her body closer to his, so she could look at him.
"Ill protect you from bees okay?" she said and smiled softly at him.

He laughed then -- genuine laughter that shivered through his body and made his heart flutter with happiness. He nuzzled her cheek. "It's a deal."
Tail brushing the flowers, he crept forward until the distance was closed between them. The smell of the wildflowers was dizzying, intoxicating, and it mingled with her scent and he thought he would remember this smell forever. "You know, everybody else has run off with their mates, having a little go-away party."
Is that what they were? Were they mates? How weird was that to even think about. It kind of felt like they might be, thought.
