The streets were so disgusting. It was cramped with trash... in the form of both people and litter. Honestly, if she hadn't found that nice clothing store to shop at, she probably would have stayed in her nice apartments all day long. But she supposed that sitting around all day would not satisfy her parents' unfathomable need for her to have an adventure with her pokemon. If only her parents could see her now! They would be horrified to see the sort of people that accidentally brushed against Ai's beautiful shoulders; they dirtied shirts that probably had cost more than their entire outfit. If you could even call those outfits. Ick.

No, the only advantage to this situation, she was reluctant to admit, was that she was getting a lot more attention now. It was all thanks to her parents' gift to her; Kumiko. It wasn't every day that these simple townspeople saw a legendary pokemon, let alone a shiny one. She liked letting Kumiko out for this sole purpose, for beyond getting stares, he wasn't good for much else. It was unfortunate that she had gotten stuck with such an immature pokemon.

There he was, drifting off to stare at commoners again. "Kumiko!" she scolded.

Kumiko stuck out his tongue and blew a raspberry at Ai, but obediently returned to her. He grabbed her shoulder with his forepaws and let her pull him along through the air for fun. He continued to take in the sights with his mismatched eyes. It was a rather unremarkable street, but to Kumiko, any place was exciting.

User ImageHmm.

Her frown was as thin as a follicle and creasing narrower by the seconds. Cetus's target, in all her fiery headed goodness, was simply flopping around town like a Magikarp out of water. Her companion, however, is what brought about the spewing spout of agitation from the older woman. It was her main concentration, but it is also what brought about her problem. You see, her task was a simple one: steal back the merchandise that was sold and present it to the organization preferably in its original containment for handling. If such a pretty little thing could bring in so much money, why not steal it back, sell it again, and repeat the process? It was a goddamn beautiful idea, but impossible with the attention-deficit floating feline constantly looking everywhere. It left her glued to corners as she stalked her sect's customer, making it harder to get close and actually get her grubby fingers on the grubby Mew.

A vine of smoke trailed itself from the ciggy tautly held between forefinger and middle. It polluted the casual air about her, driving away many who also chose to lean comfortably against the brick wall behind her. Cetus breathed deeply, sniffing a bit from the smoke, as she watched Ai from afar. She had been following the dame for some time, though the amount of time was implacable. She did not hide her features, a rare feat indeed for the amateur concealer, but took the moments in stride. Team Galactic had given her the task only an hour ago, so she didn't have time to prepare a get-up.

Schemali was hooked behind the grunt's neck, resting peacefully as a handy neck warmer. When Cetus's raised her fingers to touch upon the feline's head, she nuzzled her nose into the warmth of her palm and purred a cute, "Purr~mrrow." She was to be Cetus's small spy if her target happened to slip someplace narrow. Thankfully, such a moment did not occur yet.

"Kumiko!" Ai snapped again. But this time, the shiny pokemon was reluctant to look away. "What are you looking at?" she demanded, turning around to see for herself. There wasn't anything interesting around; just a bunch of people and their pokemon milling about. Nothing worth Ai's time. "Hurry up. God, why did I get such a stupid pokemon..." she muttered, grabbing Kumiko by his long tail and pulling him along like a bizarre balloon. This was starting to get embarrassing; she fingered the masterball, seriously considering leaving Kumiko inside it for a couple years.

Kumiko's eyes were locked on Cetus. There was something about her that made him uneasy...

But being pulled along by his tail was starting to hurt, so he snapped out of it and floated ahead of Ai again; she let him go once she saw that he wasn't going to lag behind any more. He floated along level with Ai's shoulder, but did not stay there for long; he went ahead or lagged behind at various things caught his interest. He glanced backward in Cetus's direction now and then, but he was too easily distracted to worry about their pursuer.

Her spirit inched a bit upward as her gaze locked onto the Mew's mismatched eyes. Had she been caught? She was ready to bolt when she noticed the Mew was suddenly tugged away by it's capricious owner. "Off again?" the middle-aged woman sighed with a flick of ash to join the filth below. Where exactly was the target headed? Cetus was getting a bit restless pretending to be a ninja, but she wouldn't rest until Ms. Bennet chose a destination to stay put. Or until her kitty decided to stray away. Both options would work to her favor.

Pushing herself from the wall, Cetus followed a slow trek behind Ai to keep a lengthy distance. She had already been spotted, yes, but she wasn't going to fold. No - it just fueled her drive more. She was going to obtain her merchandise no mater what.

Kumiko frowned as he looked back again and saw that the not-very-nice-looking person continued to follow them. He wasn't a psychic pokemon for nothing; he could sense that she stood out from the others on the street somehow.

"Kumiko," Ai said exasperatedly, "If I have to tell you to keep up one more time, I will seriously leave you in this pokeball for the rest of your miserable life." The threat was an empty one; she knew that her parents wouldn't count carrying around a mew in a container as the same as having an adventure with it. But that cat was really pushing her buttons!

She turned around again to see what he was looking at... and this time, she carefully followed his gaze and saw a suspicious person. A person very mcuh like herself; pretty, aloof, and with a small cat pokemon. But Ai immediately found herself disliking her. It was something in the way she seemed to be watching both Kumiko and herself. Also, the stranger's clothes were weird.

But she was just being paranoid; probably, they just happened to both be walking in the same direction down the same street. That didn't mean that she was following the redhead. But Kumiko seemed to be worried as well... She decided that it was best to find out whether she really was being followed. She turned and started walking normally, but made a sharp turn into an alleyway (ew!) that lead to a dead end. There was no way that that woman could have been planning to go down this path; there was nothing back there but garbage waiting for the dump truck.

Noticing her target turn a corner, Cetus hurried her step not lose the trail. To her utter surprise (and equal delight), the Galactic Grunt stood at the mouth of an alley's dead end. How surprising. The fair-haired princess had wandered deep into the witch's trap. Now it was time for introductions. She couldn't watch from afar now, not with her target caught in a three sided cage.

Cocking her head to the side, Cetus approached her target with a placid air. But Kimiko would certainly catch that her atmosphere was actually quite drafty. Cetus's intention was to only follow, not approach. Defying her own plans made her jittery. What is she said something wrong? Arceus damn it, she wasn't going to fail again.

"Are you alright?" she questioned, her tone soft like pillow cotton. "You seem lost, do you need help?"

Schemali's eyes fluttered open and she watched Ai with a sleepy stare. Oh, Cetus already got the Mew? Oh, alright. Back to sleep she goes. She wasn't really needed anymore, right?

"No, I know where I am," she said with a false sweetness. "I was just trying to see if I was being followed." She wasn't afraid; she was actually feeling rather superior. What was this hoodlum thinking, trying to follow Ai around? She was probably a thief, wanting to steal Ai's money or maybe her pokemon. Or maybe the lady was just so enamored by Ai's appearance that she would slaver and wag her tail like a dog just to get her attention!

Well, whatever the reason was, Ai wasn't going to play the game by this stranger's rules. She played by her own rules at all times. She walked toward Cetus without a flicker of unease; she honestly didn't believe that anyone would dare hurt her. "So I don't need your help. Excuse me," she said threateningly, and paused for Cetus to move aside to let her back out onto the main street.

Kumiko's eyes were wide and staring, but completely unreadable. He was clinging to the back of Ai's shirt, trying to hide, though he gave himself away by peeking out from beneath the girl's long red curls.

Cetus was tempted to say, "Come here often?" but than she'd be pulling a page out from her ex-Casanova's book of perpetual idiocy, so chose to let the phrase slide off back into the darkened chambers of her mind. Besides, playing jokes didn't seem a great way to garner the trust of this gal. No, but what could she do? Cetus really wasn't a master at making friends . . . nor conversation for that matter unless she commented, complimented and complained about every single detail in the world.

Her chuckle was a melodic hum from her throat as she flashed Ai another smile bellied with the same sweetness of the woman's before tone. "Really," she breathed in the same sing-song manner with a hint of lemony humor, stepping aside to allow the woman passage. "Didn't think today's youth chose grimy alleyways as places to trap their stalkers. In reality, your choice to wander here certainly sets your follower up with more of an advantage, heh. If you're being followed, wouldn't it be better to just go to the police? I could take you to a nearby station, if you please." Or to another slimy alleyway to knock her around and get what she wanted.

"Hmm," Ai replied, suppressing a slight blush as she realized that her choice of cornering her stalker really hadn't been wise. But she walked past Cetus (with Kumiko squirming so that Ai's body was always between him and the older woman), and turned so that now her back was to the street. It did feel safer that way, though she still couldn't see anyone daring to attack her.

"You obviously don't know who I am," she said imperiously. "My name is Ai Bennett. I'm sure you've heard of the Bennetts before. I don't need the police-- my family owns its own private army." Well, that was stretching the truth into an outright lie. It was true that her family hired a lot of guards for security around the house, but it was definitely not an army. But Ai was a good liar; she had had a lot of practice, and her face didn't so much as twitch as she smoothly delivered that statement. "Thank you for your concern, but I'm expected elsewhere. I'm going to be late."

She turned on her heel firmly and began walking away; surely the woman couldn't have the nerve to continue following her after that confrontation.

Kumiko let out a small 'mew' of worry as he was temporarily exposed to Cetus, but he latched on to his trainer and was carried off again.

Her ears perked up towards the name Ai and without hesitance, her tongue translated her thoughts. "Anata no koto o kiita koto ga nai (Never heard of you)," she replied towards the woman, clamping her mouth shut before she decided to spew more of her mother's dead language. Yea, she was fluent, but that part of her died along with her lost momma. It didn't feel right speaking such meaningful gibberish unless it was to the same mouth that taught her it. Still, the name Ai partnered with the surname Bennett surely made her brows hill. It was an odd combination, like her old, forgotten name until she adopted her mother's identity.

"Shinju," she replied as she followed after the woman, keeping up her following with clean persistence. Ai's attitude pissed her off tenfold, but Cetus could remain with a pretty much tolerable air among her until she got what she wanted. Too bad these moments were not working out in her favor. "Late for a date?" Cetus rose the question like a curious sister. "No wonder you're in such a hurry."

Ai stopped and her head turned sharply back toward Cetus at the sound of the strange language. Ai had understood just about every other word, but still didn't really know what Cetus had said. But she recognized the flowing words to be of the same language that was passed down on Ai's mother's side of the family. Her mother had tried to teach her, but Ai had lost interest when she was around six years old and hadn't spoken a word of it since then. To hear it come from Cetus was very unexpected.

"... Yeah, I guess you could call it a date," she said. She did not move, though. Cetus had caught her off guard... She could only look the woman up and down with critical eyes, trying to figure her out.

"Hmm."

At the thoughtful rumble, Schemali opened her eyes slowly (with a few blinks here or there) before awaking fully. She cast a careless verdant stare onto Ai and sassed her with silent thoughts. Humans really were all the same, hmm? Especially females with their firm brick-by-brick attitudes. They crumble so easily, leaving them defenseless, but just as quick as they fall so can they be rebuilt. Truly fascinating, especially from the POV of a lazy feline whose personality fluctuated between boring and dull.

"Places to go, people -- or person, for the matter -- to see." Cetus mused. "You're surely getting far just standing there."

A nerve snapped. Ai dished out one of her best, most disgusted glares just for Cetus. The date had been another lie; Ai had actually been on her way back to her apartment, and had claimed to be meeting someone as a defense mechanism. But here was this lady, much too bold for her own good, and now she was insulting her. It was infuriating.

If humans evolved like pokemon did, then Cetus could very well have been Ai's evolution. The woman was the master of the game that Ai was still perfecting; it seemed that Cetus was able to spin the younger girl around, give her ego a few light wounds, and then salt the bruises. But now she was on her guard.

"Don't you have someplace to be?" she retorted. "Or is wasting other people's time the best you can come up with?" She turned around and started walking away again, but she didn't know where she was going. She wasn't going to lead the creep back to her house; the best she could think of was to go to the place her imaginary date was supposed to be. She turned her feet in the direction of a small, but clean, cafe that she had found a few days earlier and had been meaning to visit.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 21, 2012 12:58 pm

Cetus knew her humorous joking and jabs was like stretching a rubbery band. 'Twas why she was not surprised to be snapped back with a horrific throng of glares from the younger woman. She returned the scowls a mundane little smile and reveled in the nostalgic tinge. Ah, this girl -- Ai -- reminded her a bit of her younger self; doesn't take s**t from no one, yet quick to anger when jabbed here or there. Cetus could smile or laugh when in the woman's presence. She was pretty much a second, well, her.

When Ms. Bennett turned and trotted off, Cetus did not answer her. Instead, she kept up step with her. When her destination was met, it was also Cetus's. Finally, after that short silence through travel, Cetus replied, "I do. I just so happened to be traveling to this quaint little cafe too." Her mouth stretched upwards after her reply as she expelled a yawn and as quick as it opened, so did it close. "What a sleepy afternoon . . . " Sea green eyes glanced to the Mew than and she registered its size to memory. It wasn't an important factor, but she had her reasons.

Ai was more than a little angry. She was positive that Cetus had only decided to go to the cafe because that's where Ai was going. Well, she wasn't going to let this game of cat and mouse continue; she didn't like being chased. She wanted to try out the cafe and, god dammit, she wasn't going to let a complete stranger force her to leave!

But showing such frustration was un-ladylike; her face smoothed into an inscrutable mask. She smiled at Cetus sweetly. "Looks like my date's not here yet," she said. She saw that the table nearest to them was surrounded by three chairs, and claimed one of the white seats as her own. Kumiko mimicked Schemali and settled around Ai's shoulders like an over-sized faux fur boa.

Ai twisted in her chair, ankles crossed, and pleasantly watched Cetus. Your move, b***h, she thought.
