Quote: Survey Mission 3CArticle Headline: Pet animals go missing in local neighbourhood in New York * D class difficulty level (you can run this mission solo or with a group/team) *Article contents: It seems overnight, all local animals, including pet dogs, birds, cats, rodents, have all gone missing. Investigators are baffled, but tell owners "not to worry". MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission 3C. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Each player must roll at least three times with rped reactions. Once they have "collected enough information", they can return back and submit a report in this thread. 1- 20: Nothing seems out of the ordinary in this area, it is a rather crowded area close to the commercial district, so half the area is filled with stores, shops, so on so forth, and rather populated. 21 - 40: At first it doesn't catch your eye, it doesn't seem that extraordinary, just the body of a dead animal next to the dumpsters. 41 - 60: You begin to notice, as you decided to tour the more unsavoury areas of the neighbourhood, that there are dead animals everywhere. Not pet ones, just crows, pidgeons, rats even. 61 - 80: Something crunches under your foot - you have just stepped in a family of cockroaches fleeing from somewhere 81- 100: You hear a strange whining, shrill noise, but you can't locate the source. * 2 mission reward points for completing this successfully Cass had been visibly upset to find out about the demotion from Caelius, but she hadn't gotten in a rut about it or immediately thrown any fists of the like. She'd sulked, but Nicodemus had convinced her that if she kept working as hard as she had been, she'd get it back in no time. For Cass, the progress she'd made in the last year was clear to her: She could do push ups and run more than 5 miles at a decent pace without taking herself out via exhaustion.
She had people to socialize with. She had friends. She had Marcus. Nicodemus didn't like that she had that last one, but it made her happy. He wouldn't fuss against her being happy for the next while. Eventually he'd be able to pry the lovebirds apart and then Cass would pretty much be his. Was he motivated by jeaolusy?
Maybe. But he didn't think so.
Cass had been looking over the mission reports and calls to go out when she'd noticed one that she thought was particularly...appealing to her, which had prompted her to message the aforementioned Marcus on her phone. Albeit it wasn't a very clear message, simply:Quote: Want to go to New York with me? That wasn't confusing at all, right?
Either way, she headed off towards the Light House Portal, sending another message as she made her way outside.Quote: I'm on the way to the Lighthouse. You have 10 minutes to message me back to wait before I leave, is that alright?

Like Cass Marcus was also upset, more internal than external really. But, he was still upset and even though Dis had attested he had faith in Marcus, the moon trainee was not sure about himself. His resuming his work out schedule, his self imposed training down at the towns, his nightly reading about that which went bump in the night- He wanted to become better.
He hadn't been considering much with going on a mission to gain his status back as he wanted to be able to earn his status back. No point if he didn't feel like he'd earned it after all. Cass's text got a wary look. He wanted to go, but should he? She could distract him and- Go. Dis's answer was oddly clear. Test your control. See how well you'll do by her side as a hunter. That's what you want isn't it? True, it was in part but- Go.
His weapon had given his thoughts, as oddly out of character as they might have been but the vampire's council was becoming a boon he was happy to have.
Testing her back with a julie styled smile ' : ) ' Marcus picked up his coat and went off to got meet up with her. New York huh? If it was in the city- He frowned. He didn't want to run into anyone he didn't know. would the coat- bah! he was over thinking it. Wasn't like the small percent that knew him would be there. Plus she didn't say city so-
Well, here's hoping.
Reluctantly he put on his coat and made his way to the portal. "Hey Cass. What's all this about a mission?"

Awwww, a smiley face just for her? Cass had probably scared someone with just sitting there and smiling back at her phone like an idiot in the light house, waiting patiently. She hadn't texted him back, assuming he'd know she was there waiting even if she didn't say anything.
She perked right up when she saw him, but...it was a careful test of control for her to not just suddenly pounce upon him with kisses - he got kisses the rest of the time. She could hold off on them for a while now, couldn't she? Nicodemus massaged his presence over her brain to reinforce that he thought she could.
"We're investigating a New York neighborhood where all of the local animals vanished overnight. It shouldn't be anything too dangerous, and.... it should be fast, unless we want to stick out in uniform." she fussed her scarf and adjusted her shirt at the thought, shifting the chain around her waist as well. "I...guess I could have gone alone, since it is only a mission to observe and take down information, but I thought it'd be nice to have some company. It might be strange for a girl my age to be out by herself."
Or dangerous, fighting monsters or not, Cass wasn't a physical strength tank. She could have easily been held down by a taller individual with a few pounds on her, sadly.
"I mean, I don't think anything will happen, but..." she bit her lower lip. She'd called on him to do what moonies did best - keep her safe in a strange place.

Ah good, probably nowhere near where he lived. That was really good. Less.. mess. And emotions. Cass didn't jump as he arrived and Dis said that she was in control for once, probably because he was being such a smooth operator. "Depending on the exact location we could be in hot water, but I doubt it. They wouldn't give us anything they expect us to get into anything since we're still on probation. No sense there." Then again, they did... throw things at them in a trail by fire sort of fashion.
"Ever Been to New York?" He asked, wondering. Cass kept bits of her past from him, but, so did he. They had died in the eyes of the world, and that past had died with them in some ways. "Eh, animals huh? That doesn't really make sense why we'd be investigating animals. I'd suspect we'd more investigate the owners, given I don't think the abominations go after animals. But, who knows. A mission is a mission right?" Could be as dumb as getting booze.
"Shall we get going?" Stepping by the portal he gave her a nudge. "Thanks." He smiled. "For inviting me."

"Yeah, animals. Maybe something is eating them, or something supernatural has taken them." she suggested, pausing before she added; "I went to New York a couple of times. When I was about eight we went to Newburgh to investigate the Plum Point Condos. They said that a nun molested a boy, cut him into pieces, and hid him in the walls during construction when it was a Christian School. Ever since they claim that the little boy has been ruining construction equipment in the location and is sometimes seen walking around there." Cass mulled her head from side to side and crossed her arms. "A lot of stuff got knocked over and some of the equipment turned on, but I didn't really see anything that was too...out of the ordinary." It was a rather short story, but Cass had hundreds of stories about haunted locations like that. All of which were told in a tone that was..whimsical in a sense that it was strange to recall doing such things, but also grouchy, like it annoyed her.
"Then about two years ago we went to Greenwich Village in New York City. It used to be a carriage house, and they say the man who used to own it had a daughter. That daughter is said to haunt the place and will often try to steal jewelry from women at a local bar out of fascination and interest in how pretty she thinks it is." Cass nervously touched at her neck, even though she had nothing on, then shook her head. "I don't think we ever found my necklace......" she trailed off, then shook her head, regaining herself.
"So..a couple of times. Never too long. Which was sad. There were quite a few places I would have liked to have seen, if only to feed the little bit of tourist in me." she laughed, but then stepped closer towards the portal.
"I'll stand here telling you all sorts of stories all night, though. You're right, better to get going." she agreed, flashing a smile back at him as she stepped into said portal, "and hey, any time. I like your company."
With that, she stepped through to the other side.

Marcus figured those were places Cass was unlikely to ever want to revisit. Not unless she wanted to kill a ghost. "Nothing like the city then?" He smiled. "We never left the city much, and when we did it wasn't to go very far. My mom could only afford small trips like camping a few hours out, but even then we usually had to rent a car or plan how we were supposed to get a ride home. The clunker my mom had.. kept us a bit locked in." He smiled weakly. His life had been pretty bland.
Stepping behind her his hand brushed against her as, making him blush, as he thought about grabbing it. No. No that was- Damn it this fast and he was already getting distracted. Smoooth. Stop that. It was an accident. Did you know we can hear your thoughts? An accident. Such a dirty liar.
Touche Dis. Touche.
The other side was dark, and Marcus took a deep breath of the familiar New York City stink. Good to be back? A little. The smell of a pizzaria was nearby, he knew burnt crust smell anywhere. "Been a while since I've been home." He muttered. The streets were different but- It was familiar. "What we looking for exactly? Missing pets?"

She pondered if he'd been the Greenwich Village in Manhattan, but didn't comment on it. She'd been in the City, just..residential areas, mostly.
The smell of the other side actually hit Cass a bit harder than she would have really liked after the island and...not growing up in the city. Still, she took a minute to cough before fumbling through her pockets to pull out a paper copy of the information that had been given.Quote: Pet animals go missing in local neighbourhood in New YorkIt seems overnight, all local animals, including pet dogs, birds, cats, rodents, have all gone missing. Investigators are baffled, but tell owners "not to worry". "I think all we can do is start looking for suspicious activity..." she said, sighing a bit as she took a minute to look around the alley they'd been dumped in for the sake of incognito in the streets, investigating the dumpsters for a minute. Cass nearly climbed into one of them to peek around before she dropped down and...
"Oh god, I nearly landed on that" Cass flinched away from a dog sprawled out in the trash, its body now a feast of flies and foul stench. She made a face and pulled her shirt up over her nose, looking visibly distressed.
She probably would have been more upset if she actually had landed in it though.

One thing you didn't usually do? Go playing in the alleyways. Mostly since dead s**t and rats would litter them on occasion. It was sort of like finding pennies. They happened. And they were kind of annoying. Marcus's reaction? "Huh." Pretty much at 0. Dis asked if he ever had a pet. Marcus' said if he did, it probably was feral and thus not an actual pet.
"Well better to miss it than not you know? Investigating and setting into what you're supposed to be looking for- ugh. No thanks." This area was more or less..fine as far as animals went. "Come on." he tugged her in the opposite direction of the pizza, (much to his stomach's dismay). "No point sticking around here huh?" Moving further into the 'wretched hive of scum and villany' Marcus began to notice... things. Not pets thank god, but just- Crows. Rats. Mice. What he was pretty sure was a mutant feral cat. Dead. All of them. Whistling, he called Cass over. "Looks like we found what they were talking about."

Cass clearly didn't know that wasn't the first course of action she should have taken. She frowned at Marcus's lack of reaction, but...maybe that was just normal. She took a piece of newspaper from the trash and spread it out over the dead dog with a small sniffle before she followed after Marcus's lead instead.
There really were dead animals all over the place, and Cass took it upon herself to actually pull out her phone and snap a few pictures of the scene, just to be safe. Phones were useful in that way, outside of debating sending naughty texts to people at two in the morning.
Not to say she hadn't.
She moved closer to inspect one of the dead bodies, carefully picking up a safe-looking stick to flip it over when she heard a crunch underfoot. Looking down she made a face at the mess of cockroach she now had underneath her foot.
"How common are Cockroaches around here? I mean, just out and about like this, do you know?" she asked, looking to Marcus. "I thought they were like...indoor pests because they liked the warmth."
Her brows furrowed together. She was probably overthinking it.

Marcus would have told her was simply apathy. Dogs died all the time and having no pet? He hadn't any idea what it was like so, he kind of- Sorry Cass. The photos were a good idea, as gory as the scene was, evidence could always be used later on as reference. Speaking of phones- Checking his messages he grinned. Quote: After mission report to my room for mandatory cuddle time. Sexy. I bet that gets her hot. Dis shut up, I- Said you didn't want to be distracted. And yet that seems distracted to me. Why don't you just jump her, maybe then you'd work her out- Dis stop! Why finally going to do work? Yes. Good. The vampire was being pissy again. A heavy sigh from Marcus as he looked for more clues. He didn't spot anything but he sure as all hell heard something. "Cass!" His head darted around, trying to find where it was coming from but it was of little use. The echo in the area all but made it impossible. "You hear that?" Damn, had they missed an attack on something?"

Cass had never had a pet either, but something about dead animals was... sad. Why had she thought this would be a good idea? She certainly wasn't sensitive, but missing pets hadn't sound like 'there will be dead animals everywhere' to her. She'd been scraping the bottom of her shoe off on the edge of the sidewalk when Marcus piped up about hearing something - Cass took a quick look around herself.
"I didn't hear anything." she admitted, flipping over one of the dead animals with the stick she'd picked up and starting to snap pictures, carefully pulling one out underneath a street light so she could take more detailed shots of the body. What if there was something unnatural about these dead bodies or some other clue to what was going on on the bodies?
She needed to know she'd thought of everything.
After a few good shots of a dead bird, she flipped through her phone, stopping to look at one of the messages, then at Marcus, her brows lifting a bit, before she dragged the bird back into the shadows. Something about it all made her really sad, or so the disturbed look on Cass's face seemed to say.
"I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight..." she confessed. She could watch horror films without a problem, but unexplained dead animals everywhere bothered her deeply, and she wasn't sure she liked the idea of her brain filling in the blanks on this.

It was like a fight he couldn't win. Dis that was. Marcus kept looking at Cass even when he said he wouldn't and even though Dis liked Cass and her chest too, that wasn't the mission. Boob ogling was a much more private mission than this one and by jack Dis was determined to make his hunter stay focused, even if it meant... the box. The one Marcus put him in when the blade pissed him off enough. Marcus was so cold sometimes. So cold.
That was why he had Cass, she made him warm. And hot. Later Romeo. Later. Yeah..just. Damn it. Marcus was at war with himself, control slipping away constantly. Not only that but Cass was NOT enjoying this place. Granted he didn't either but. "Cass, it's okay." She need something after. Maybe- The scent of pizza, the feeling he had growing up. Pizza was a comfort food, maybe it could help her too. "We won't have to sleep. We can stay up and watch the star if you want okay?" Kissing her forehead, marcus gave her the best smile he could.
Out of the corner of his eye he spotted another dead animal. Damn it. He was so done with this. "Do you want to go back? There isn't much else here."

Cass focused well enough on missions. It wasn't to say that she wouldn't have thrown it out the window just to settle in for a good cuddle and a movie, but it was her job. She felt this undying need to prove her worth, as though her failure would mean certain doom. Aria - or perhaps it had been the one called 'Red' - had instilled that in her early, and Caelius had backed it up with a metal pole to her ribs.
Still, she turned away from the scene to rest her head against Marcus's chest with a sniffle. She hated crying, to be honest, but somehow she couldn't find another feeling for what was going on. She had a feeling the higher ups knew more about what was going on than they'd been inclined to share, which somehow made it worse.
"I...think getting out of here might be the safest thing to do at this point." she agreed, wiping her eyes with the palm of her hand. Nicodemus seemed to puzzle over her mental state. I don't understand, Cassandra. Why does this bother you? <>

Sigh, was Dis's thoughts. Sighhhhing heavily because Marcus's mental wall had broken down and now he had gone over to give Cass a hug and a kiss on her head. For a girl who could watch movies of people getting ripped apart versus animals. Oh Cass, you were a softy under it all. Well that and the sight of a bunch of dead animals wasn't very comforting.
Guiding her with his hand at her back, Marcus whispered promises of cuddles and Unico. He'd sit through it again with her. Just for this. "I... do you mind if you wait by the portal a bit?" he could get her something that had always helped him..even if it was food....and the animals....yeah. "I' want to check something out real quick."

It was Cass. Breaking down Marcus's wall of srs-business was her natural ability. It was hard to not make things get too cuddle-y in the middle of a bunch of dead animals. Still, she was eager enough to leave the scene, easily guided by that hand in the small of her back. Whispers of comforting things, she liked that.
She liked that a lot.
"I can wait." Cass agreed, pulling over the closest clean-and-weight-bearing thing she could to sit on as she crossed her ankles, watching him. "I don't plan on going anywhere." she added. She also had Nicodemus, so she should have been..relatively safe. A small girl out in the dark of night by herself.
But he had said it would be quick, which left him only a text away if she got worried, even if she immediately started writing a text the second he left. A text along the lines of;Quote: I require a mandatory kiss after this mission.
