The Rift was starting to grow on him; time spent here with Obsidian probably had more to do with it than his frequent hunts for Smokey, the youma gone missing among...well. Ilmenite wasn't quite sure. Did youma have friends? Did youma travel in packs?
He paused at a junction of narrow paths to think about that, his eyebrows pulled together and hands tucked into the pockets of his jacket. He'd never bothered to study the behavioral patterns of the standard youma, nor of the more powerful ones. He'd barely paid attention to Smokey, except as a companion who stepped in when trouble was afoot, and as something he had to hunt down periodically when he went missing.
That was getting to be an increasing annoyance, something that a General had to put his foot down on. With a sigh, Ilmenite swept the hat off his head and turned in place, peering into the dark as if it might give him some idea of which direction to turn.

Unlike the general, the dark haired captain had no youma to keep track of. No beastly partner to seek out when it returned to the rift to do whatever it was that youmas liked to do. Instead his ventures within the depths of the Rift were entirely voluntarily, it had become like a second home to him and was one that he frequented often. There was a strange comfort to the Rift and he found that he felt as though his senses were heightened when he trained.
Perhaps it was the constant threat of danger that lurked around every corner, his title meant little to the strong youma. He'd lost count of how many attacks had been launched at him, how many battles he had with the beasts of the Rift.
So there he was, standing on top of the pillars he had his first training session with the pink haired General Serandite. His pink weapon in hand as he stood, half slouched, breathing heavily. Sweat plastered his usually spiked hair to his face and still dripped down the side of his face. His body stood weary but his eyes were wide and bright, scanning his surroundings as though he was to be attacked at any moment.
It took him a moment to see the silhouette of what seemed to be a human, he had a difficult time reading energy signals in the dampness of the rift. "Hey!"

It was dangerous, in here, to assume that something that looked human actually was human. Many of the lurking creatures -- hell, many of the ones who had jumped at the Captain, likely even -- were two-legged, two-armed monstrosities, that through the glittering gems and among the shadows could easily pass for real people.
The same could be said for things that sounded human. While that bark might well have come from an Officer's lips, when Ilmenite turned it was slow, hesitant, with his own weapon coming to hand with an absent twist of fingers. The bolas caught the light, ivory and gold and silver reflecting the rift's purple in shimmers and glints.
He squinted up at Labyrinthite, hesitant for just a moment, and then took a step in that direction. "...lost?" His tone was careful. Neutral. Not his usual bright smile or dry amusement. It was closed off, just in case.

The captain straightened himself, standing on guard as the figure grew closer. As the figure spoke in return and he let out a hoarse laugh. "Lost? Hardly," he replied, his hand sliding down the base of his weapon and holding it in the middle. "Are you?" He asked, tilting his head slightly as he stepped forward to the edge of the pillar.
"This isn't a good place to be lost," he stated, though the statement was an obvious one. He skunk down so he was sitting on the edge, one leg dangling over the side and the other propped up, his arm slung across it. His amber eyes narrowing slightly curious to see if who he was talking to was an intelligent youma or a fellow officer.
"What are you looking for?" He asked with mild curiosity. The rift was vast and he encountered little more than youma so if this...person was seeking something he wondered if they had direction to find what they were looking for.

It'd be clear, once Ilmenite settled into place beneath him, that this was definitely an Officer -- and a ranking one, certainly, not some lost Lieutenant wandering unwatched around the Rift. Or even a captain, trying to prove his worth against the monsters in the dark. Ilmenite stood with his hands in his pockets and one half of his collar flipped up, dark eyes narrowed to stare up at the brightly-colored young man above him. "Youma. You?" He rocked a little on his feet, unconcerned that he might be found, himself. nuxaz I'm marking this thread as 'inactive' in my list; if you tag, please let me know via PM or quote?
