i have recieved a pm telling me i have been reported and will be banned if i do not respond with my :-
user name
password
repeated password
email
but normally my msgs from gaia are from an npc and this 1 isnt so im not sure what to do about it, can you please help?

If the pm isn't from an npc or admin then it's most likely to be from a hacker.

Don't answer, Gaia will never ask for your password. Instead, you should report the user who sent you the PM.

Report it no matter who sent it.
Gaia Staff neither want nor need your password. Its someone trying to hack you.

In a private message environment, you don't actually report the person. You report the pm xD In the bar of buttons like Reply, New Message, etc. All the way to the right of that is a red button that says "Report this PM"

exclusively bellas ty all for your help, the pm has been reported, but will i hear anything back from gaia? If the mod chooses to reply to you then you will get a "thankyou for your report" PM, but you won't hear anything about what happened to the person you reported.

My friend got a pm like that a couple years ago and got hacked. The staff repeatedly say that they will never ask for your password so don't trust any message like this.
