He was drawing. Again.

And he was outside. Again.

One day he was going to learn that the elements of outdoors would not always be so kind do his work, considering that the last time he had been outside and painting, he'd gotten his canvas knocked over by a freak gust of wind.

Clearly Fritz had not yet learned his lesson.

So there he sat, at the corner cafe in Destiny City, a sketchpad in his lap, a cup of tea in one hand, and a pencil in the other, another absently clenched between his teeth as though he had stuck it there for a moment and had forgotten about it.

She had been watching him for 17 minutes and 46 seconds now.

Jenny had plans today, but they hadn't been very important. Shopping was important, of course, but when you had nowhere to go.. it simply started to lose it's glamour. Plus, she'd already picked up a pair of shoes on the way to the mall - a new shop had opened up across the street from her apartment, and they were selling the most amazing Guess heeled boots with furred tops that were perfect for making her taller and keeping her warm-

But she'd already started to go off into a tangent of thought, her eyes glazing over as she thought about her purchase. She snapped back to her stalking gaze, as she leaned carefully out from the tree, and watched him with one wide, captivated eye.

He was so pretty. Sure, most of the guys she saw were pretty. And sure, she'd been caught staring at least once a day before. But this was different. This was today, and this boy was so pretty. She giggled and bit her lip, as she continued to watch him draw, and drink his tea.

What was he drawing, she wondered? What was he drinking? What made his hair flow so easily in the wind? Jenny wanted to know the answer to all these questions and more, but she never would. She would watch him and dream up ridiculous fantasies for another two minutes and four seconds, and then she would tear herself away to get back to real life.

Fritz, being...well, himself...had not even noticed the fact that a girl had been staring at him from behind a tree. If anything, he was much too distracted by the fact that someone had bumped into him from behind and that he had almost spilled the Earl Grey all over the sketch he had just spent the past twenty minutes working on.

"Bloody..."

In opening his mouth to gently swear, he'd dropped the spare pencil that he'd forgotten he was holding. It slipped down, skidded across the paper, and made a rather unappealing mark in a spot he hadn't really intended drawing. Frowning a bit, he set the teacup down on the table and eyed the sketch carefully. His "there are no mistakes in art" ideal still rang true, so, with a slight drawing of his brows together and a great deal of concentration, he very carefully fixed the line so that it fit in with the rest of the drawing.

...not very well, but that was life.

Fritz pulled a couple of bills out of his pocket and left them the on the table as he stood, carting a to-go cup of tea in one hand and his now closed sketchpad in the other. He still wasn't really paying attention to where he was going, and, distracted, accidentally ran into someone.

Or something. Or someone and something, since Fritz half ran into the tree and half ran into the girl standing behind the tree.

"Oh dear," he said, as tea spilled over the cup and spattered on the fingerless gloves he was wearing. "So sorry - wasn't really paying attention - "

One minute and two seconds left.

01.

00.

Jenny's eyes widened as he stood to leave, and she pulled away to flatten her back on the tree, her heart beating wildly. Oh no. Oh Gosh. Oh gosh oh no no no, had he seen her?! Was he coming over here to yell at her for watching him? Or even worse, was he leaving before her time was up? She hated when that happened! She'd only wanted to watch him for one more minute, why did everything have to go wrong for her all the time!

/first world white girl problems

Jenny took a step to the right, as if she was going to run. Then she immediately second guessed herself and took another step back, and then hopped to the left when she considered walking forwards. All in all, Jenny had just done a 270 dance, and ended up exactly where she started. Her arms were tight against her, and her little hands flailed in front of her as she tried, desperately, to figure out what she was going to do.

Too late.

"Aieeeee!" Jenny was far too fragile for a bump to catch her off guard and not send her sprawling to the ground. She landed on her rear with a thump, and winced, before looking up at the vision in front of her. The sun was directly behind his head, haloing him with light like some kind of angel.

That seemed to happen a lot, when she met cute guys. But this time, she was sure he really was one.

"Ahhhh.." She barely managed to breathe out, her heart stopping and her eyes widening to saucers as she looked up at him like a deer caught in headlights. "I.. ahhhhh.. ahhhhh.."

Her minute was up.

It was a rather brisk day, if not rather windy.

Which was why, when he intended to ask the girl he had just run into if she was all right and his scarf was blown up into his face by a sudden gust of wind, Fritz really was rather displeased.

Especially since he spilled more of his tea down his front in a somewhat pathetic attempt at disentangling himself from said scarf and he completely missed the fact that he had actually knocked the poor girl down onto the ground.

When he finally managed to get everything right again, he gave a small, sheepish laugh, ruffling his hair with his free hand.

"So sorry about that, I - oh."

He had looked down, seen her on the ground, and was now proceeding to blink owlishly at her for a long moment.

Then it hit him that he had actually knocked her to the ground and suddenly Fritz was flailing a bit.

"OH bloody hell, I am so sorry, please, here, let me help you up, er, I - "

He looked around, as if trying to figure out somewhere to set his stuff, and finally dropped all of it on the ground, reaching over to grasp the girl's wrist and pull her gently to her feet, patting her shoulder awkwardly to get rid of some of the dirt.

"Did I hurt you? I'm so sorry - I just...wasn't watching where I was going," said Fritz apologetically. "I'm...er, in my own world sometimes, I'm afraid."

There was a scarf in his face, tea down his shirt, and Jenny was sure she had never seen anyone look so good in her entire life. Her entire body lifted up an inch as she sucked in a deep, dreamy sigh, and blinked up at him vacantly for a moment too long. Then, as if slapped by the reality that he was speaking, she shook herself out of it and- the electricity sizzled through her when he touched her wrist, and she went limp as a noodle, easy to pick back up and put on her feet - but not so easy to keep her there. She swayed and fluttered her eyelashes at the touch on her shoulder, another deep, overly dramatic sigh lifting her tiny body up before she let it go.

"Hurt.. me?" Jenny could barely see straight, but she shook her head and tilted her face up to give him a dreamy smile. "Nooo, I'm not hurt." But wait! If she said that, then he would leave, and then - and then this moment, this moment that she'd read about thousands of times in books would suddenly come to an abrupt ending, and- no! She knew what she was supposed to do here. Come on, Jenny, use your head!

"O-owww, my ankle.." She lifted one of her legs up into her hand, and rubbed her ankle sheepishly. It was a lame attempt to act hurt, but.. come on, Florence Nightengale Syndrome, don't fail me now.

There was a moment of awkward silence in which Fritz stared at the girl who was...staring at him.

More silence.

"Er," said Fritz, peering at her curiously as he pulled his now slightly damp scarf from around his neck and shook it out experimentally. It now smelled quite strongly of earl grey tea."Er...are you...quite all right?"

She was not very tall - in fact, she was a good foot shorter than he was, with curly dark hair that was sleek and styled in a cute sort of way. Fritz smiled pleasantly at her, all the while trying to figure out why she was looking at him the way she was.

Clueless Fritz is clueless.

His eyes flicked downwards, lifting a brow. "You hurt your ankle?" he asked her, with a concerned expression on his face, and knelt down beside her, carefully pressing against her foot.

"How badly? Can you walk?"

Time began to slow to a crawl from the moment his body started to lower down towards her ankle. Her eyes grew impossibly wider, as if that was possible, and every heartbeat that pounded in her tiny little body started to hurt. This was like.. like CINDERELLA, except there was no glass slipper and she wasn't a maid and okay this was nothing like Cinderella.

Except he was there, on his knees, touching her ankle, and she did the only thing she could ever have thought to do, in such a situation.

She swooned, hand against her forehead, and fainted dead away.

To answer Fritz's question, no, she could not walk while unconscious.

Fritz, completely oblivious to the epiphany occurring in Jenny's head as he frowned at her ankle, tapped experimentally against her boot.

After which there was a soft thump, and suddenly she was lying on the ground in front of him.

Fritz stared.

Then he stared some more.

"Uh," he said blankly.

Then his mind shifted into slight panic mode, Fritz frantically looking around to figure out just what on Earth had happened. She looked as though she had fainted, and her face was a tad paler than it should have been, but unfortunately Fritz was no doctor.

However the other half of him - the knight side - slid his worry into calmness and rationalization as Fritz carefully slid one arm beneath her knees, the other under her shoulders and hefted her up, carrying her easily. She was not exactly heavy, and he made his way towards the nearest bench, a few feet away and sheltered from the street by a large tree. He laid her down gently, then sat beside her, frowning a bit.

"Pardon," he said, shaking her shoulder lightly. "Miss?"

Jenny's faint had only lasted a moment. The only reason she hadn't stirred, was because she was waiting.

Waiting.

She felt the warm slide of his arms under her legs, but forced herself not to giggle in reaction. In fact she remained quite calm and completely non-responsive, as if she was still asleep. The bench was cold underneath her, but she even managed to suppress the urge to draw her bare legs up off of the wood! She was pretty proud of herself, and if she got what she wanted, she was going to pat herself on the back all day long.

Because, after all, when a prince found a princess asleep, he was supposed to kiss her awake. Duh. Didn't this guy know the rules? Maybe he just.. needed a little help.

Pssst. The lifeless form of Jenny let out a hiss of air, before stage-whispering up at him so that her lips hardly moved. "Don't you know how Sleeping Beauty got woken up?"

Subtle.

Fritz was feeling distinctly awkward.

It was not as if he had ever encountered a girl actually fainting on him before - especially not one that he had not ever met before - and now he was standing here stupidly while she lay on the bench.

What was he supposed to do in this sort of situation, anyway? It wasn't like he could just leave here there, after all.

"Psssttt."

The unexpected hiss startled Fritz out of his inner musings. He glanced around, bemused.

"Don't you know how Sleeping Beauty got woken up?"

A long pause. Fritz stifled the urge to laugh aloud.

"I never did take much stock in fairy tales," he said, in a perfectly normal sort of voice, folding his arms across his chest. "Besides, last I checked, people don't normally request how to be woken up if they're completely asleep."
