Godmodding has become a problem in this roleplay. God mode is when someone writes a character to control another.
For example:

"Nyan cat grabbed onto Mr Bird, digging his claws into Mr Bird's flesh."
This is not acceptable. What is acceptable is this:

"Nyan cat swiped at Mr Bird, intending to dig his claws into his flesh."
Please, post your characters intentions only. No auto-hitting.


Here are some phrases to maybe help you out:
Bob aimed his arrow at the Mary Sue, hoping to rid the world of one more.
Sally initiated the spell she intended to hit the dog with.
Jim delivered a blow that was meant to debilitate his opponent.
Julie (past tense verb) at John for being a muncher.

In a nutshell, you can throw all the attacks you want within reason. You just can't decide if they hit/disable/capture your opponent or not.

The Ani-Munch Project might also help.

You can also talk with your ic opponent! Plan out battles and how they will go. Discuss what your characters are doing and abilities and such! I have learned that this works very well. It also helps to let each other know exactly what your characters can do.



Another option is to use a system of dice while in battle. I am not making it obligatory. All parties in the battle must agree to use or not use it. You may also modify it to fit your needs, but again, all must agree to it beforehand.

When you submit your post, under chose action, select random number generator. Only one attack per post please!


Small attacks: random number 1-2
XXXXX1 - hit
XXXXX2 - miss
Medium attacks: random number 1-3
XXXXX1 - hit - full damage
XXXXX2 - hit - some damage
XXXXX3 - miss
Large attacks: random number 1-4
XXXXX1 - hit - full damage
XXXXX2 - hit - some damage
XXXXX3 - miss
XXXXX4 - miss

ABILITIES

Everyone in this RP has abilities, whether it be melee, magic or natural traits its just the way things go. As such everyone is also expected to understand the nuances of one's traits and abilities. Yes there are a couple predators who act as super bosses but they are minimal interaction characters unless provoked.

For the rest of us there are a few simple rules we should all know and if we don't already we will now have them as a reminder. Yes melee attacks are weak and can be predictable at times, but they are fast or can even be downright dangerous depending on the person using them. If you are a giant trying to smash someone yes your attack will hurt hard, but it will also be slower than most attacks probably in most cases; on the other hand if you are a quick attacker there is no reason people should be dodging your hits unless they are clearly faster. However they will be weak. We shuld have no problem with this right?

Now onto abilities and magic. We have a list of abilities and traits for our characters for a reason. If you are using magic be aware of your surroundings and be aware of the characters around you. If you aren't familiar with a character? Read up about him in the profiles section!!! Whether you do or not though this doesn't change sometimes spells and skills will be a total success and other times: You will bomb it. That is just how it goes. The stronger the spell the more chances people get to avoid or interfere with it.

This brings me into TYPES of skills. Some of us have amazingly powerful skills; and we want our characters to be amazing. We all do, but a fire blast which anyone can dodge vs a mental attack that is automatic? Here's the deal. Nothing is automatic in an RP. You must consider the situation and the kind of ability you are using. If you are trying to charm someone in the middle of a dangerous situation or a battle guess what? It wont work as well. They are on alert and they are nervous. if you want to have absolute magics like manipulations deal with the consequences of using them on the wrong person or at the wrong time. Sometimes you will succeed and it will be WONDROUS when you do, other times it will be a total no go, and other times? Well you are messing with a brain? It CAN backfire. Thats just the price you pay for getting and using such high powered/minimal interruption-dodge risk abilities.

Finally, we are all good RPrs we are still here because we know what we do. As such everyone should understand: No one has the right to dictate the actions of characters. If something went the way you didn't want it? Maybe you didn't explain it well enough, or maybe something happened that made your earlier efforts futile that's just how RPing goes. Which leads me to my last point and most important:

Unless it has been discussed with a crew/vice-captain/Missy no one has the right to directly dictate another character's actions without their permission or try to do so in their own posting, or demand it in an ooc fashion in a posting; you just didn't get what you want, move on and try again. If you have managed to control someone? Keep in touch with the character's owner on what you can or can not do it is a greatly appreciated courtesy and you will find makes things go much easier than just having things go wrong and trying to make people take back their actions.

With that letsallbe aware of the pros and cons of our abilities and acknowledge them. Even if we don't like it, since I promise many more will not like it even more if you don't and we all want to have fun in the end right?
