The sound of rain clattering down that night had almost caused him to miss the tiny cry for help. Dorian had been working late that night, trying to get his space organized for inspections scheduled later that week. Not that is wasn’t already organized he just…felt like it needed a good dusting. And re-filing. Nothing was wrong with that. What was wrong was the fact he was keeping his boss who couldn’t leave until he left, and after two hours the man had sighed and ordered Dorian out of the building, telling him to get some rest and not worry about the inspections. The rain picked up shortly after he left the office, the bus stop crowd all huddled under umbrellas as they waited outside of the parking lot.
It was by luck that he managed to squeeze his way on, a kind woman shuffling to the side to give him room. The ride was cramped, a stuffy. Rain water evaporating then condensing on windows made it hard to tell what stop he was at, the hum of voices making it near impossible to hear the conductor. After a while he finally managed to pick out the next stop… which was one past his. Groaning Dorian realized he’d missed his station and would have to walk back in the rain. Thank the gods he had an umbrella. Wiggling his way off the cramped bus, he apologized quickly as his umbrella almost hit a man as it opened.

It wasn’t a long walk, but in the cold rain it seemed that way. It was just three blocks from his home when he heard her. A pitiful sound, at first thought to be his imagination. Looking down the alley he didn’t see her at first, but when she cried out a second time his eyes found her, huddled between the wall and a trash bin, shivering and soaked. She was small and dainty, blue eyes silently pleading with him, to offer her something, anything. Bending down, he reached out, tentatively petting her head. “Hello there.” He whispered, getting a mew in return. A grey tabby, just a few weeks old. Looking around he didn’t see any mother cat, and the nearest apartment that allowed pets was his own. She was friendly, even cold and wet purring into his hand, into his touch. He couldn’t… leave her. Poor thing needed to get dry. With tiny smile, Dorian picked the kitten up, taking back with him.

An hour later, and the kitten was much better, dry, and eating a bit of tuna he had. Sadly, she was sneezing, and seemed to be a bit weak, though it didn’t stop her from crawling her way over to sleep on his foot. As cute as she was, Dorian couldn’t keep a kitten, plus… another sneeze and this time with a shiver. She might have a cold? He wasn’t sure, but in any even she was a stray and would need to be given to the pound. Maybe she had owners even. Sleeping on it, the next day he actually went home from work to pick her up, the lack of rain making it easy to get on the bus with no one noticing he had a kitten in a basket. Yes. A basket. He didn’t know how else to transport her really.

The nearby vet office was open and once inside he immediately pulled the kitten out, who gave a happy mew as she was placed on the receptionist desk. “I think she has a cold.” As soon as he said it, the kitten sneezed. The receptionist just told him to take a seat and wait. The kitten was fine with that, playing with the loose string of his sleeve as they waited to be called back.

Rain had a odd way of affecting business in New Tokyo. Though it seemed almost heavy, and almost icily cold, the Japanese never took a break in their daily routines to sit in for a day. Some had errands, some had school activities, most had work.

Shen-Ru was indeed one of the more latter ones. Rain didn't stop for a pet who was sick, or for owners who had no idea what happened when their dog started yipping or cats that wouldn't eat. It didn't stop for people who left animals in the streets, or children who found broken winged birds.

He washed his hands in the small sink as he sighed, leaning over the counter before rubbing his eyes. It was getting late and soon he would have to send his help home. Soon he would have to close down, regardless of all the animals that needed help. After drying his hands, he took off his classes before rubbing the bridge of his nose and then putting them back on. A short walk from his office to the desk reivieled a wall of small and big, yet comfy cages. Some had animals recovering from procedures, others we're empty. He stopped to look at the recent addition, a small yorkshire pup who had developed a tumor in his side. The operation had been successful and well, now the pup rested easy.

As he walked over to the desk though, His receptionist Vioraca smiled at him, holding her hand out to the fellow in front of her. Shen gave him a once over before hearing a soft mew from what looked like a basket in the man's hands.

"Hello there sir." Shen pushed his glasses up as he tucked his hands in his pocket before coming over. "If you'll just follow me to the back, I can take a look over you little one." He patted the counter at Vee as she handed him a clipboard with a small amount of paperwork on it, "Let's see, Oh right...follow me this way." He lazily strode to a small examination room before gesturing to Dorian to sit. "Name's Dr. Shen-ru, I'll be glad to look over your little one there while you fill this out." He smiled softly at the other man.

It was quite odd, sitting in a vet's office for a stray kitten he was 99.9% sure he wouldn't be able to keep, let alone care for right now with the work that had accumulated over the weeks of winter. Soon if not by later tonight it might snow or ice over, which would be a pain and make the commute to work longer and- why did it have to be so cold a wet? He much preferred summer. Plus... this kitten... As the vet came out, the kitten busied itself with trying to get out and snuggle back into Dorian's hands. "Ah no you, get back ah-" Looking up, at the man before wincing as the ball of fur clawing him innocently. "Sorry one second." The kitten pawed at him, little eyes pleading to stay out of the basket. Dorian sighed. Poor thing he just- he broke, cradling the kitten in his arms as he got up, the creature purring as it snuggle into the crook of his arm before sneezing.

Following, Dorian's eyes flicked to the various animal posters and pamphlets. The medical instruments that looks like torture device rather than tools of healing. He shivered slightly. Thank goodness he wasn't a dog or- again, the kitten sneeze. Poor thing. Scratching it behind the ear he sat down. "Pleasure to meet you Dr. Shen-ru." He bowed his head. "I ah-" Taking the papers Dorian gave a weak smile. "I'm afraid this little girl is a stray. I picked her up the other day on my way home from work but I think she might have a cold of some sort."

Another sneeze from the kitten. "I'll try to fill the info out but-" H e had no idea how much he could fill out. The kitten was snug in the crook of his arm as he tried to write what he could down. Which was mostly his name and personal information, the kitten was a mystery, the most he was able to do was write down the condition he found her in.

"I don't know how much it will help really. All I know is that it's a girl, and she's been sneezing since last night."
