Name: Bekar Age: 32 Gender: Male Sexuality: Bisexual Rank: Formerly Whersecond, unfortunately promoted to Whermaster At what age did they Impress? 24
History: Bekar was the son of guards, and was determined to follow in their footsteps. He was raised to view prisoners as scum, and longed for the chance to join the guards. Bekar was a candidate for Impression but was never chosen by a dragon. When the White Guard was formed, Bekar trained as a candidate for white impression. The ferocity of the whites - and the fact that a white could not turn him down if he force-Impressed it - appealed to him. Unfortunately, the white on the sands slashed him up. Before he had a chance to recover and go after it, another white candidate had caught the white dragonet and Impressed it.
Stung by his failure and bitter at his inability to Impress a dragon, Bekar Impressed a wher once he had healed from his wounds. The Wherguards were impressed (lol) by his dedication and determination to join the guard in SOME form, and he received a bronze.
Appearance: Bekar is taller than average, with sandy blonde/light brown hair and light brown eyes. He's sturdy and somewhat muscular from working with his wher, but not overly buff or chunky. Bekar bears scars from his encounter with the white dragonet across his belly and thighs - not disfiguring, as the dragonet just slashed him in passing, but VISIBLE. He has pleasant features - he isn't handsome, but wouldn't be considered ugly or terribly plain, either.
Personality: On the job, Bekar is somewhat harsh, stern, and aloof. He believes very strongly in his work and can be ruthless and cold to prisoners. He encourages his wher Beksk to be vicious in pursuit of escapees (although Beksk may or may not listen to him). Bekar's harsh attitudes can lead him to be unbending and unimaginative. It is often difficult for him to accept new ideas, and he is uncomfortable with people that advocate kindness towards prisoners, forgiveness, etc - things he considers 'soft'. This makes him a bit of a failure at relationships - although he is very direct and driven in pursuing romance, when it comes to 'serious relationship time' he is frequently awkward and unable to express his feelings.
Although initially Bekar was unhappy with his lack of a dragon, once he Impressed Beksk he had no regrets. He is quite proud of Beksk, and thinks that the wher is certainly the strongest, handsomest wher around (Beksk would not disagree). Bekar is very fiercely loyal and affectionate once he decides someone is worth his time (there are very few people Bekar considers worth his time!). He becomes awkward and even a bit shy when he is the 'pursued' instead of the 'pursuer', but as long as he's in charge he can be quite romantic and aggressive. In a nice way. Even though he considers the guards like himself much more worthy than the prisoners, he doesn't have much of an ego and no vanity at all. Bekar is actually quite modest, dismissing praise of his achievements as 'just doing his job'.

Dragon/Wher Name: Beksk Dragon/Wher Image:

Dragon/Wher Personality: Beksk is much calmer than his handler, less prone to anger and irritation. That doesn't prevent the wher from being vicious when called for. Bekar is His, and Beksk pretty much agrees with Bekar's views on prisoners. Beksk is quite an intelligent wher. He has a fair amount of long-term memory, although the wher is not inclined to dwelling on the past and rarely bothers to remember things.
Being a bronze, Beksk is sometimes smug and has a bit of a superiority complex. He also likes the laydeez and would probably fly a dragon if he could.
Why this rider/handler? Bekar gave him food, and the Beksklet decided that big dude was pretty chill and they could probably hang for a while. Final Stats (haven't added points for adulthood or journal yet) STR - 10 CON - 16 DEX - 5 INT - 11 WIS - 8 CHA - 10

Breaking it off with J'aro, promotion to Whermaster
For a good while Bekar was involved romantically with the Whitemaster, a relationship which started out being convenient and fun and wound up too full of dramatics for Bekar's taste.
Realizing that he was far too attached to a man who seemed indifferent (and fixated on one of his friends' sons - squick) Bekar broke it off. It was a huge blow to his pride when he came to understand that he had spent so much effort trying to win over someone who was, in the end, a loser.
His ego was crushed at an unfortunate time, namely, shortly after he was promoted to Whermaster following the violent death of Brambel. Bekar already felt extremely unprepared to fill the old Whermaster's boots. Now, he felt hopeless. He had already endured ribbing from the rest of the Wherguards for being involved with a rider. Bekar ignored it before, but now he wondered if they were right. Was he weak and stupid? Brambel, a man he always privately thought of as a buffoon, had died a hero. Bekar was no hero.
In which Beksk gets some tail
Bekar's unhappiness deepened when J'aro was killed by his Whitesecond's dragon. Although Bekar had been focusing solely on his duties and was no longer interested in the former Whitemaster, it was still painful. As Bekar struggled to rebuild his shattered self-image, Korsi, the new Whersecond, was a help. Maybe too much of a help. The woman was brash, bossy, unpleasant, hard on the eye, and the wife of the late Brambel. Still, she helped him organize things. And then her gold wher rose.
Despite the unremitting waves of horror and despair washing through his bond from his human, Beksk chased after her. And caught her (as though there had been any doubt about that).
Thanks to Beksk, Bekar found himself in Korsi's bed the next day. Of course, the bond between a wher and its handler was not a strong as the bond between dragon and rider. That made it much worse. He hadn't been compelled to sleep with Korsi. He had done it on his own. Beksk-induced beer goggles had been the contributing factor, but still. Still.
He wasn't about to run flailing away from his position as Whermaster, but he needed a break.
